Why Do I Have Choppy Video Preview with Premiere Pro CS5.5

Current Build:
Choppy Playback Adobe Premiere Pro
Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 V5.5.2
Computer Build
Intel i7-2600K CPU @ 3.4 GHz/8M
ASUS Sabertooth P67
Windows 7 Pro
1000WATT Power Supply

64 Bit Operating System
120GB Intel  510 SATA III Hardrive
WD 1TB SATA-3 64MB Hard Drive
(2) Fantom 2TB (USB) External Hard Drives (Where Video is stored)
(2) XFX HD6850 1 GB Video Cards run in Crossfire
(1) Scratch Disk 869.1 GB
Pulling HD Video from a Sony Handy Cam 1080 etc.
Guessing its going to be hardware related and I would like to know how to get this thing running seamless.

PPro before the cloud does not support crossfire... and that may cause problems

USB2 hard drive is too slow for video editing
External eSata or USB3 are both fast enough for video editing... eSata is better - http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1117813
ONE possibility is this $47 USB3 dock with fan http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-SuperSpeed-Docking-Station-Cooling/dp/B0055PL2YI

  • Unreliable Video performance in Premiere Pro CS5.5

Hi there all ..Since rebuilding my PC to replace the original rotating OS disk with an SSD, I have been having all sorts of hassle with Premiere Pro CS5.5... in essence, video is often (but always) choppy although the frame counter advances smoothly... Audio is OK
The issue that causes me the most angst is the demand for hi speed transfer... Why is this needed?  Here is the root of my lack of understanding:
I can record 113 minutes of 1920 x 1080 imagery at 25fps on a single 32GB Secure Digital card.. this represents a transfer rate of less than less than 5MB per sec.. So why can't my external G-Speed 4-drive bay (using a pair of drives in RAID 0) push data into Premiere Pro fast enough over a single 3Gb e-sata link fast enough to prevent choppy video??
    Essentials of the system are:
    Asus PT6 SE Motherboard
    Intel i7 920 @ 2.97GHz
    24GB Ram
NVidia GeForce GTX 580 Video Card (3GB Video RAM)
OS resides on a 500GB Crucial SSD
Project Data on a GSpeed 4-bay eSATA drive.  Drive 0 and 1 configured as RAID0 (Drives 2 and 3 are RAID 1 and act as one of two backup locations)
I have run the PPBM 5.5 tests and have the results. As simple as they are, I do not know how to interpret them :-)
    "539","81","52","9"
Your thoughts would be appreciated on what insight I can derive from the test results and second, why the heavy duty emphasis on Disk I/O performance when 5MB / sec gets you full HD...
    Cheers
    Steve

    Hi  there Jim
Well, I guess “Disk I/O - and 539 is simply horrible” gets nicely to the point   The first task is to find out which one since I presume the number combines performance time of Video and scratch disks…
No disk approaches 90% capacity.. so that is out.  I do have one drive that is showing signs of getting flaky though it is not one used by PP…  Dodgy driver?  Hmm could well be.. I have HD Tune Pro..I will run it again and see what it comes up with.
I had an email from Harm echoing your thoughts and he also provided me with a link to follow up..
Thanks for your insight I will let you know what I find..
    Cheers

  • Specific Video Footage in Premiere Pro CS5 completely black.

I've been working on a music video project in Premiere Pro CS5 for the past few months and everything has worked really well until just a few days ago, when a certain chunk of my high speed footage randomly turned black. I have it in its own bin so it's separated from my other video source files. If I try to preview these videos, all it shows is black footage (though the timelengths for each one are still correct). I checked and made sure the actual .avi files on my hard drive still worked, and they played through perfectly. I tried re-importing these videos into my project file and that didn't do anything. I made sure they were connected to the right files in the right folder on my computer, and they were. The rest of my video footage works just fine, so I'm confused why this certain bunch randomly turned completely black.
I backed up the entire project to an external hard drive and loaded it on a different computer with Premiere Pro CS6 on it, and everything works perfectly again. Does anybody have any idea how I can get my footage to return from the black abyss it's fallen into on my personal computer running CS5?

  • How to work with Premiere Pro cs5.5 and After Effects cs5 together?

I have edited my movie in premiere pro cs5.5 and made the rough cut. In premiere, i have edited the video, put in soundtrack and foley. Now, i need to add muzzle flashes & blood splatters in some scenes and final color correction using After Effects cs5.
When i import the premiere project in AE and make the changes, and then i export it back as premiere project. When i open this prmiere project, it shows vaious kind of errors and no changes are retained that i did in AE. Also, when i import the premiere project (which has 4 different sequences) in AE, all the media that has been imported in the premiere project also opens in AE making it difficult to organize the media.
How should i work now so that i add vfx and color correction using AE cs5?
I thought of exporting the video from Premiere pro and then open the video in AE and add vfx to some scenes and color correction to the full video and render it out again. But, this is the first time i am using AE and i am not sure if this is the best way. PLEASE HELP.
Or, i could import the whole project in AE, add vfx, do color correction AND then export to video from AE. But i think, it will be better if i export the video from Premiere as it has loads of options to choose from while exporting to a movie.
The dynamic link does not work between Premiere Pro Cs5.5 and After Effects cs5. Even if it does, its not working on my pc.
All the footage is in HD and i want the final result in best quality HD too. PLEASE Help!

If you are working between After Effects and Premiere Pro but with versions that are not the same number, you need to just work with movies rendered and exported as intermediate, lossless files.
Dynamic Link only works between After Effects and Premiere Pro of the same version number, and only when they are installed as part of the same suite.

  • Adobe Audition CS5.5 with Premiere Pro CS5

    Hello everybody.
I am considering downgrading from Master Collection CS5 to Adobe Production Premium CS5.5
But quite frankly it's just because of one application.
Though, i am in doubt if i'll actually going to make the downgrade.
And as you could and might have guessed it is the Adobe Audition CS5.5 Application.
Though really the whole pack has a GREAT improvement overall, I just actaully want to mix SEAMLESSLY with Premiere Pro and sound editing application (Audition).
Which leads me to my next question.
Now with Adobe Soundbooth CS5 closed off (by April 24th), and an UPGRADE for Soundbooth CS5 users to Audition CS5. Does this mean that Audition CS5.5 works SEAMLESSLY with Premiere Pro CS5?
Is there a dynamic link between the two applications? (Audition CS5.5 and Premiere Pro CS5)
AM i able to send mixes between the two? I really don't want to loose any Audio data, such as 5.1 channel mapping, volume mixing, denoising, general mixing etc.
All i really need is some good quality sound editing which works seamless, as After Effects and Premiere Pro has proved to me can be done.
Just want to know if it is possible. Or if I REALLY have to upgrade in order to get the sweet apples.
    Best
    Lucas

    Hi _durin_
    Thanks for your quick response.
But I didn't quite understand your answer.
I have seen Jason Levine's video earlier, as CS5.5 was announced and it looks natively good. I understand the mixdown attributes etc.
Please correct me if im wrong HOWEVER this workflow and settings applies still to ONLY the new CS5.5 Version?
Im currently using Master Collection CS5.
Instead of getting either the Production Premium, or Master Collection I am strongly considering updating Soundbooth CS5 to Audition CS5.5 (the option is there as i can tell by SoundBooth's website, though i get a weird error message when I click the update link...)
However I need to know, IF Audition CS5.5 works well with the PREVIOUS version (that'll be CS5 not 5.5), of Premiere Pro.
Are there an option to render the reference video, and generate a interchange session from WITHIN Premiere Pro CS5 to Audition CS5.5?
Im sorry if I either sound harsh or "willingly" misunderstanding. But I have only documentation on how the integration works between the current versions (meaning 5.5).
Im as you can guess VERY confused over the move from Adobe to make a .5 version instead of a full-fledged CS6 solution. It causes a stir, cause I then don't know much of the integration between the previous applications.
I have seen as an example that Photoshop CS5 have gotten the update to receive paintings/files made with their new touch API. So I wonder whether integrational features will be a part of the CS5 pack since, as i've mentioned, an application like Soundbooth gets replaced with Audition, with an upgrade option for the Soundbooth owners.
Im confused and hope you can help me clear my mind up, whether to upgrade or not. I will download the trial eventually, but not onto my current CS5 system since I already use this in my daily video work and want to AVOID confusion.

    To be clear:
You asked about supported cards. Here is a list of supported cards. Others on this thread are telling you how to make an unsupported card function to some degree using a method that is not advocated by Adobe.

  • Problems with Premiere Pro CS5

Everyone seems to be getting replies to all questions around here so i hope someone can help me out.
My premiere pro CS5 has decided to act up for the past three weeks: everytime i open an old project, it loads up, opens the project window and timeline, feels like it's all good, but then the spinning wheel appears and all fans go out of control on my macpro, and this process can go on for hours until my only option is to force quit the program, SADLY...
It's almost as if it's trying to conform all items in the project panel, but it mentions "all media loaded", and there are no dinamic link files to find.
There are two projects i'm constantly getting back to: one is a 720P poject which contains two timelines, a 30 min one which only has music now, and a 5min timeline with music, go pro footage and rendered HD animations from AE, all at 720P. Opening this project can take up to 40 min where i'm staring at a spinning wheel and hoping for the fans to not explode, that was not the case three weeks ago; I could close everything, shut down for the night and get back to it the next day.
Second project is a holiday video of Asia which goes for one hour and fifteen min, but it was all shot in 07 with an old Sony DV on standard def of course. Opening this project used to be smooth, even though i often moved things around and had to find them again. But now i want to rework on its sound, noise reduction anf create a nice DVD for my family, but I cannot open the project without having to wait for HOURS, and HOURS and HOURS - the longest being three hours and the spinning wheel was still going and the fans were louder than a lawn mower....
This never used to happen before and it is worrying me as I started editing a short film in 1080P, so far i can open it nicely, but it may turn into a mess like the other two projects.
The two projects used to have dinamic link files as i always had after effects and Encore working along PPRO to avoid rendering. At first, i though ADL was the problem for such a slow bootup, so i got rid of every ADL files and rendered instead, which consequently helped me in the process. BUT NOW, it is impossible to open them without a long and frustrating wait.
If i start a new project, everything is fine and will reopen smoothly - what are your thoughts on the matter guys??? Can a project be too heavy and requires 4 hours to load?...
I have a quad core MaPro with 32gb of RAM, so this should render and locate files lightning FAST....
I already reinstalled the whole suit but the problem still happens, i'm thinking about a complete format and reinstalling eveything from scratch...
thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Try these steps. Something is definately wrong with your loading times.
    1. Delete PrP preferences (Option - Shift when booting up PrP)
    2. Clean Media caches (Preferences Menu/Media)
    3. Delete preview files
You dont mention where and on what system your media files are stored. For best performance a raid array is desirable.
    4. Make new sequence and copy timeline from old to new.Do this if the above stuff doesn't help.
    5. Upgrade to 5.5 where a lot of issues has been resolved.

  • What software for someone to help with Premiere Pro CS5

For the last 9 months I have been processing video using PP CS5 for a small church.  The church is now recording several programs and I would like some help in processing the videos that are created.  The church is small so probably can't afford a copy of the software that I have, so I will have to propose some options for them.  The two that come to my mind are:
    1) Adobe allows me to have two machines loaded with Master Collection CS5.  Since I am only using one, I could install on another person's computer.  I think this may be somewhere less than the spirit of the EULA.  Besides, I am not real anxious to do this anyway.
    2) Help them find a low cost alternative.  I think they may be able to do this for $100 to $200 for the software.  All they need to do is to trim the ends of the extra film, then add some title slides and save to Flash for the website and burn to DVD for archive.  As an option, they might be able to make a menu for the archive DVD.
Anybody know of any other options or suggested low end video editing software.  BTW, I took a quick look at Cyberlink PowerDirector and I could not find a way to save in the Flash format - other than creating a Youtube account and then sending the video directly to Youtube.

    Colin,
You are correct. PrE will handle AVCHD on an adequate computer. It will edit, allow Titles, PiP, many Effects (too many are Auto only, however), and can Export/Share to Flash, with one big caveat - there is NO Transparency available from PrE, like from PrPro, so no sprites, etc. Just plain FLV.
The files that PrE works from will work in PrPro and vice versa. However, the use of a PrPro PRPROJ (Project file) will NOT work in PrE. A PrE PREL (Project file) might Open in PrPro, but there are a bunch of things that can keep this from working correctly: Themes/Instant Movies, some New Blue FX Effects and Transitions, etc., that are specific to PrE. Otherwise, if PrE and PrPro are contemporary, say PrE 9 and PrPro CS5, and not of that "stuff" is used, it is likely that a PrE 9 PREL will Open in PrPro CS5 - I can do that with PrE 4 and PrPro 2.0/CS2, as they were contemporaries. I cannot Open later PrE PREL's in PrPro 2.0/CS2, and only get a failure.
For simple editing (especially if one is not intending on migrating between PrE & PrPro), PrE should fit the bill nicely. Much more is done "behind the scenes," and the GUI is more of a "Big-Button" solution, than PrPro, where one has much more control, though much needs to be done by hand. There are also some MAJOR layout differences between the two GUI's, but with some training, one can go with either pretty easily.
    Hope that this helps,
    Hunt

  • Using my JVC BR-DV3000E DVR with Premiere Pro CS5

I have been testing out the use of my JVC BR-DV3000E DVR (Digital Video Recorder) using a new PC running Windows 7 (64 bit) and Premiere Pro CS5.  The connection is via the firewire cable supplied with the device.  It worked fine on my original PC running Windows XP with Premiere Pro 1.5.1.
When I open the capture window in CS5 it shows the message "Device Offline" at the top of the capture window and all the transport controls are greyed out. I have played around with the settings but nothing seems to overcome the problem.  I am trying to capture miniDV footage in SD.  Has anyone come across this problem before on either the same device or similar and has anyone any suggestion on how to fil the problem please?

Try these to see if they work
    SD capture http://windv.mourek.cz/ or http://www.scenalyzer.com/main.html
I do know that the demo of Scenalyzer puts a mark in the video, so don't do anything real until you pay and enter the registration code
I don't know about the other program

  • Switching tabs while working with Premiere Pro CS5

    Hello there.
I am currently working with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 and I notice that when I'm reproducing/previewing the timeline or am recording, for example, an audio track, everytime I switch tabs (switch to another window or to desktop), in this case the recording stops. I've searched around Preferences and in help files and I cannot find an option to make Premiere continue what he's doing despite me changing windows. Is this even possible? It would be very helpful.
    Cheers!

    >Is this even possible?
No... PPro must have full control of the computer to work... shift to another program and PPro stops

  • Closed captioning with Premiere Pro CS5.5, exported to wmv/mp4

My employer suddenly has a push to be ADA compliant, so all videos going forward need to have captioning, and would prefer to have it closed captioned. I've read that you can add captions with Encore and output them to disc, but since all of the videos are posted online, nothing is burned to disc so that doesn't help. I also know you can use scc or mcc files to add closed captions to a broadcast stream, but since these aren't for broadcast, that doesn't help either.
All of this means is that I need to add closed captioning to online video only. What I'd like to know is this: Is there any way to add closed captioning to video that will be streamed online? Or, am I doomed to putting everything into lower thirds?
I'm using Premiere Pro CS5.5 (I also have AE CS5.5).
    Thanks

As a broadcast engineer, I would suspect, and it would make sense that online video files would also be encoded with EIA-608 and EIA-708 set forth by the Electronic Industries Alliance and monitored by the FCC ( Broadcast Standard ). This makes sense to me as all existing video programs which already comply with the EIA-608 and 708 standards would then, automatically play closed captioning when encoded to a video file for playback.
The FCC has recently required all online video to include Closed Captioning as per the Accessibility Act of 2010 ( FCC: MB Docket No. 11-154) Subpart 6 of this document appears to define that all devices which may playback video through the internet, must be able to support the CEA-708, or closed captioning for digital broadcast television. CEA-708 is a form of embedded data often referred to as metadata which is contained within the MPEG-2 stream.
Not to get too technical about MPEG streams, but in essence, even though your end up with a single file, there are traditionally 3 elementary streams of data contained within. Each one has a PID, or Program Identifier number which identifies the Video Stream, Audio 1 stream and Audio 2 Stream. Additional elementary streams can be added such as a data stream containing Closed Captioning- or whatever like Dolby Digital. The PID allows a Demultiplexer to split the streams appropriately for playback.
I would hope there is a program out there that would embed the scc or mcc file ( however they are produced )  possibly after you export the sequence to a file. One of my favoite and best kept secret long-term video websites out there is videohelp DOT com. there is a plethera of kewl software to do all weird things to video, maybe even add CC!
All this still doesn't help us with Premiere Pro though...

  • Locked a Black Video Layer and Premiere Pro CS5 Hangs Up

Ran into a problem whereby I have on Video Layer 1 a layer of Black Video about 30 minutes long.
I have 2-4 additional video layers above and about 9 audio layers.
When I locked Layer 1 which has nothing more than a premiere pro generated Black Video layer, Premiere Pro CS5 completely froze up, became unresponsiveand  not even able to move the CTI, particularly when I tried to zoom in on the layer.  However when I locked any of the other video layers, not a problem.  Hardly ever lock layers so didn't notice it before.
Filed a bug report but was curious if anyone ran into this problem.
    Using p2 media
Timeline preset is DVC PRO HD 60.  Using

  • Jumpy video render in Premiere Pro CS5

Hey guys, I'm very new to the editing world of premiere and after effects and I have run into a couple of issues. Any advice would be helpful thanks! Here's what going on:
I capture videos every weekend on 4 cameras (Canon XH A1s) in 1080i into Premiere Pro CS5 using the live capture feature onto a Mac pro with 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 8GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ram and two 1 terabyte (spelling) hard drives with a ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024mb and a black magic capture card. I have the new OS Lion. I am taking that captured video and color correcting it in Premiere Pro for now and experimenting with After Effects. The sequence in Premiere Pro is set to 1440x1080p and I am trying to render out the video using H.264/Vimeo HD settings or 1280x720 29.97 fps/ de-interlaced with audio AAC 320, VBR 1 pass, target bitrate at 5 and max at 7.
Now along with the live capture I have in the timeline I also have another live capture video and some mastered audio files that I had to sync up with the live video. Also, there is a short 30 second video that was exported previously using the same settings.
After getting all of this ready, I exported the video using the above H.264 settings. The rendered video is just over 2GB and 50 minutes long. The final product is jumping terribly every second of the video. I've tried rendering it out in Vimeo HD settings and just 1280x720 at 29.97 fps with high audio settings. Each time I've gotten the same results. ANY SUGGESTIONS????

    > The final product is jumping terribly every second of the video.
What exactly do you mean by this? Is the video moving vertically upward once every second? Is the video stuttering in playback once every second? I'm just not clear on what you mean by "jumping terribly every second".
Does this problem only happen with a specific output type or in a specific player, or does it happen when you export to another format or play the result in a different player?
What exact version are you using? Have you installed the most recent updates?
