Why do I have greyed out songs in my iTunes music library?

I updated iTunes two days ago and I now have several purchased and ripped song that are greyed out and have a circle with a lighting bolt to the left of the song as viewed on my computer. Those songs are no longer on my iPhone.

The location of the files, Show in Explorer and locate?
Or rebuild the library db.

Select the songs and go to Edit > Delete. Then, download the music in iTunes Store

Are you following these instructions:
To delete photos from your device
In iTunes, select the device icon in the Devices list on the left. Click the Photos tab in the resulting window.
Choose "Sync photos from."
On a Mac, choose iPhoto or Aperture from the pop-up menu.
On a Windows PC, choose Photoshop Album or Photoshop Elements from the pop-up menu.
Choose "Selected albums" and deselect the albums or collections you want to delete.

I had previously syncd the ipad and the songs on it, then loaded songs from an old ipod into the itunes account (using irip) and now the ipad songs that were in the itunes account are gone. Can I change the auto sync settings before reconnecting the ipad again as to not lose the songs from my old ipod.

Check the manual for whatever backup program you used, or, if you just copied the files over, copy them that.

I got an ipod, installed itunes which then put all music that was already on my comp into my library. I was able to put those songs from the library onto my ipod. Now i am uploaded cds (store bought, good condition) into itunes. They play in iturnes but when i drag them over to the ipod icon i get an error message saying "some of the songs in the iTunes music library, including song 'x' were not copied to the iPod 'y' because they cannot be played on this iPod." What do i do?! Please help brand new iPod dying to use it!

iPods, can only play files in specific formats and at certain bit rates. My guess is that you have your import settings set to something not compatible with the ipod. Navigate to the preferences screen and locate the importing tab and tell me what the settings are.

Greyed out songs show in itunes from ipad?

I have itunes match enabled, I have no songs on my ipad, (I have deleted songs via Settings>Storage>Music>Clear all music) also tried turning itunes match on and off. So Im sure there are no songs on my ipad, yet when I connect my ipad to itunes, these songs show, and can not be deleted. Ive selected, right click and hit delete, No effect they seem stuck,
As a new user to apple, im hating it so far, everything seems locked out, or takes 5 times longer than a pc to figure out,
Please some actual help here, and no more apple fans claiming how great apple is! All I want it to be able to do something as simple as delete these 4 songs,

As Allan pointed out you can't. However, there are some options available.
You can choose to sync specific playlists to your iPhone. If you reorder those playlists in iTunes, they will be reordered when you sync them.
For purchased songs you can move them to other computers that are among the up to 5 computers authorized to play your purchased content.

How do you delete duplicate songs in your iTunes Music Library?

I just replaced a new hard drive and had to re-install iTunes and it imported my My Music from my external which had the iTunes Library saved in that as well, but now I have like 4 copies of each song!!!
How can I delete the duplicates so I have one of each song?

How do i find the total numbers of songs in my itunes music library?

I scrolled to the bottom of the music listing to no avail. I clicked on the various tabs, i.e., file, view, edit, etc., also without success. The only way I was able to find the information was to print-out the first page of the list of songs from the file menu. I couldn't find anything help from apple.com/support or the web. Is there another/easier way?

I'd like to apologize to all that viewed, and especially those who responded with suggestions. I apparently overlooked/didn't notice the total songs and length of time at the bottom of the screen.
