When I look at my music or photos folder I find several "local disks."  What are these and how do get rid of them?

Where are you looking?

  • Why do i have to keep authorizing my ipod on my computer?

So everytime that I plug in my ipod touch into the computer it is a third generation 8 gb and it always says that it is not authorized but when I authorize it the pop up says that it is not authorized. Another problem that I amhaving is when I had to restore my ipod it erases all the songs that I had purchased recently on my ipod and my photos and videos and all of my apps are deleted as well. I would hate to rebuy my songs becasue when I search my songs on itunes it can not find it also when I hit sync my apps do not get redownloaded and my songs dont either. The reason why I pluged my ipod into my computer so my brothers can download it becuase I bought it on my ipod. Thats when the pop up came and it said to authorize it so i do so and then another pop up appears and it says to authorize. its the same cylce over and over. I called apple to ask this question and they told my to come here and ask this so if someone can help thast would be great.

    Hi Patrick,
I tried that last night, and unfortunately still had the same problem. I have now arranged to return the iPod in exchange for a replacement. Hopefully this was a one off! Thanks anyway.
I'd be interested to hear of any other advice in case it happens again when I receive my replacement!

  • Why do I have to keep resetting my iPod classic 80gb?

    Hi all
I received my black iPod classic 80GB yesterday (replacing one I had stolen, which until that point I had absolutely no problems with).
I am manually updating this iPod, so am importing albums to my MacBook iTunes and then connecting my iPod, adding the music, and ejecting then disconnecting my iPod.
If I then leave it for between half an hour / an hour (while importing another artist), the iPod does not respond to any key touches. I have to reset it before there is any life in it. Also, when I pressed play this morning to see if it was still happening, the first thing it did was show the Apple logo (as if it had just reset itself without my toggling hold or pressing down menu and centre for 6 seconds).
Why does this happen? Am I doing something wrong?
Please help. This is very annoying!

  • Why do I have to regularly reset my iPod?

I recently upgraded to the 5th gen. 30GB iPod with video. I am noticing that I have to reset my iPod quite regularly, sometimes daily. I happens at the beginning of the day when I go to turn it on after it has been off all night. Is this normal? Is it a sign of something possibly being wrong with it? Thanks in advance for your help.

Sorry but I don't have much
experience with that one. I had it happen once with
my year+ old 30GB iPod and never with my (since
February) 80GB. The one I get a lot on the 80GB is
the semi lockup where everything on the iPod works
except actually playing music. Screen shows playing
but the song doesn't actually advance. I have had to
reset a lot for that one, but not for your
    condition.
By the way, when you turn it on in the morning, how
are you doing it? Normally, at least in my case, I
switch the hold slide to OFF then hit the menu button
to wake up the iPod which normally starts up with the
Apple logo. Are you doing that or something different
    or expect different results?
    Patrick
Normally, I would just hold down the play/pause button and it would turn on (that's how it worked with my 20g 4th gen that I have) even if it was off all night. With my 30g 5th gen, I have to hold the center button and menu button to get the Apple logo to appear and wait maybe 30 seconds for the menu to appear. I haven't tried the lock button and menu button as you described, but I will next time and see if that works. Thanks.

  • Why do i have to keep restoring my ipod touch every 10minutes?...HELP ME!!!

Everytime i plug in my ipod to my Windowes Vista the itunes program opens right? Then a window pops up and says "your ipod has been detected as in restore mode" so i restore it.....10minutes pass....ipod compleatlly shuts down, restarted and all i see is the apple logo then the screan turns white. So i plug it back yo the computer and itunes wants me to restore my ipod...again. So there i go and restore it again then after 10minutes the same story repeats it self. GRRRRR..... THIS FREAKIN FRUSTRATES ME!!!!!!

Email or call the nearest Apple Store and make an appointment at the genius bar.
If it's software they can fix it and tell you what to do in the future (take notes) if they can't fix it they'll replace it.

  • Is there any way to change a "removable disk" to a "local disk"?

I'm running XP proffesional via bootcamp and I've already run out of hard drive space. I've partitioned my 40gb ipod into two 20gb ones, one of which is windows and the other is mac.
My problem is that many of my windows programs will only install to a "local disk" and my ipod shows up as a "removable drive" in XP.
Is ther any way to change the ipod to a "local drive"?

There is probably a registry edit you can do (at your own risk).
This link may give you some ideas

You may need to do the edit, install the programmes and then roll back the edit so you can remove the iPod and then see if the programmes will still run.

  • Why my self-signed applet could not read local disk but could write?

I used a self-signed certificate for the applet yesterday and it worked
fine at the beginning time, that is, it could write/read file to/from
local disk, and it could connect to other MDS servers. But later, a
problem happens. It could write file to local disk(I tested it and created
files to C:/ under windows) but when it try to read that file, it got a
io acessing exception. It could connect to other servers. I am puzzled
about this problem, and I wonder why I could write but could not
read. Need I deal with any policy file issue here?

    hi,
i 'am doing something which is similar to the stuff ur doing .I wanted to write into file on the local disk on which the applet is running.for this i have signed the applet .do i need to make it self signed wat is difference between the self signed and signed applet .The problem which i facing is that it still gives me the security exception even if i define the policy file for that applet............Can u help me reagrding this
    Thanks in advance

  • Why do I have to make disk image of AVCHD to import into iMovie?

iMovie imports AVCHD format file structure from the camera quite easily. (or so I hear, I have not done so myself yet). I have footage from the camera saved to an external hard disk which I want to import into iMovie08. I am a newbie to Apple/Mac things. From these fora I learned that I need to make a disk image of the AVCHD directory and mount it. I did that and it seems to work.
But this process is painful. For the 12Gig save I made on 27Jan08, the disk utility took forever to make a disk image. It failed once complaining lack of disk space. I thought the firewire external disk was overwhelmed by IO and copied the directory to the internal disk, and made a disk image. I thought it was hung after about 15 minutes killed the diskutility. I had a corrupted image file. Then left diskutility running overnight and seems to have finished the job. This morning iMovie looked at the disk image and is estimating it is going to take 3 hours to bring it in. May be it is transcoding to a more editable format like mpeg-4 or something.
Why do I have to jump through so many hoops to make iMovie recognize the AVCHD structure? Why can't I just drag a AVCHD directory into iMovie and make it read it? If I can reclaim the 24 gigs in the internal disk at the end of the process, I guess I can live with it. But, come on, copying 12 gigs over Firewire, another hour to make a disk image... I was expecting better user experience than this. (Did I mention I am newbie for Apple? Recent refugee from the vistaland)

I would not recommend waiting until you have 12GB of AVCHD (which might import as 120GB of AIC). You could lose it all if your camera is dropped. I suggest you get in the habit of importing from your camera on a regular basis.
I agree, it is not a good idea to accumulate so much footage in the camera. But these were downloaded from the camera way back before I even bought the iMac. At that time, the only device that can deliver 1920x1080 video to my shiny 50inch TV in the living room was the camcorder! (and the OTA antenna). So I kept the clips in the camcorder, even after taking regular backups to the hard disk. That way I can show the clips to friends and family in full HD glory!
BTW 12 Gig is just 2 hours in HD. It is not much. I dread bringing my second backup 4 hours of our trip to Anguilla, St Marten etc. We all know HD requires ooodles and oodles of data and storage. I am not really complaining about the disk usage. My most important beef was: iMovie imports AVCHD from the camera easily. But it is unable to start from a AVCHD folder in the internal hard disk and start reading it. I can burn a DVD-ROM with AVCHD directory in the root and it reads it. I can copy AVCHD folder to the root of a thumbdrive and it reads it.
But put the very same AVCHD deeply nested in the external drive it barfs.
I am going to experiment after going home. I will create a symbolic link to the AVCHD folder from the root of the external disk. Heck, I am root here, I can even do an ln -s /nested/directory/deep/in/the/external/drive/AVCHD /AVCHD
and see if I can fool iMovie to import the files without creating a diskimage. If someone who has immediate access to iMac would do the experiment it would be very helpful

  • Why do i get the "the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" error when I don't even have a disk inserted?

Why do I keep getting "the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" caution message when I don't have a disk inserted???

Unfortunately, I saw this error for the first time this morning. It's on my wife's iMac running Lion, and it appeared when the machine locked up on a Software Update screen prompting her to run an update (I'm assuming this was the recent Security Update).
After numerous failed attempts to force-quit or otherwise safely restart, she hit the power button, and when the machine came back up it failed to recognize the startup disk. I've since successfully restarted from several different (external) startup disks without incident, but each time I attempt to fix the internal drive via Disk Utility the disk shows only as "Media" and all the usual options to Repair or Verify the Disk are greyed out, leaving only the Erase Disk option.
    Are we totally hosed?

  • Why Does FDM need to use a Local Disk?

Quick infrastructure question: In the Oracle install docs, under sample deployment documentation they specify that FDM needs to be run on a Local Disk. Why is that so ?

It requires local windows files on the drive, it should never be installed on a network drive. You can place the FDM application folder directory on a network share, however the software itself must be installed on a local disk.

  • Why not to place Oracle Datafiles on local disks

Hi, I want to ask a basic question.
Almost any Oracle installation I saw, the datafiles were placed on mount points, disks etc.
Is there a reason for this? Why does no one place oracle datafiles to local disks? I couldnt find the answer on installation guide's
I am asking this because I am going to install oracle (10g) on vmware and trying to decide whether or not to put datafiles on vmdk (local disk of virtual machine)...
Is this recommended? Or otherwise, why it is recommended to put datafiles to a mount point/external disk etc.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Oracle is flexiable to place datafiles at your desired location. To reduce IO contention, It's adviced to place datafiles of particular database on specific folder.
For an instance, While you create database using DBCA, There will be an option asked to choose the datafile location.
