Why do I have slow and choppy scrolling?

I am having problems scrolling. The when I try to scroll the pages are jumpy and choppy.

I have the same problem, it's not occurring all the time, but very often. Slow response in scrolling websites, switching between tabs and very laggy when scrolling pdf documents, comparing to chrome. There's a feeling like firefox just hangs up. Can't be the computers fault, because other software works with no problems while firefox isn’t responding.
w7 Professional, i7, 4gb ram, no problems with chrome, ie.

  • Slow and choppy preview in CS6

    Hello!
I'm using After Effects to edit and things to my footage. I've found that it's pretty slow and preview is quite choppy. Also, RAM usage grows as I preview more, 4fps/24fps. In the end, the RAM usage is max, approximately 10Gb. I stop my preview but the RAM usage stays up. So, my question is, is the reason why my preview is slow and choppy, Cache is too small or too slow so the program loads the pieces to RAM, then slowly writes them Cache? I'm using 2 x Samsung F3 7200rpm 1TB drives in RAID0 for cache, previews and sometimes I render small pieces of video that. I think that the RAID0 -system is slightly too slow for cache. But there's a problem. Windows shows that HDD usage for my RAID0 is 0-2%. So, is it that my processor is too weak, footage disk is too slow (5400rpm 2TB), Cache too slow, wrong settings or something else? I've been thinking to breaking the RAID0 and replacing the cache disk with SSD. Would that help? And I would use one of those F3s to my "footage disks".
I'm using GeForce 660TI with After Effects and I don't find that it gives a lot more performance. I don't see any performance differences even when I've enable AE to use my GPU. So, is there some settings wrong?
RAM preview is as fast as normal, no speed gains, and still, no real time. Sometimes, when I RAM preview the footage and then preview it, as normal, it would play it in real time with audio (if selected) but sometimes when the RAM preview is done, it won't do that. It just "loses" the preview footage and it's like RAM preview didn't do anything.
And I want to make sure: Blue bar - from Cache, Green bar - previewed footage.
    My HDD settings:
    - 2 x Samsung F3 1TB RAID0 - Media Cache, Disk Cache, some of the footage (no performance differences if the footage is in this drive or other drive), Audio Previews, Video Previews ( mostly Premiere Pro ), Rendered files
    - 1 x Samsung F3 1TB - Boot drive, no footage, no files, just After Effects in it.
    - 1 x Samsung F4EG 2TB (5400rpm) - Pictures and footage.
    My PC (excluding drives)
    - Intel i7-870 (HT on)
    - 16GB RAM 1333MHz
    - Asus GeForce 660 TI
    - Windows 7 Home Edition 64bit.
If you could help me, I would be very thankful!
    Kind Regards
    Apollo

    Well, project info:
    1920 x 1080, 24fps, HDTV 1080 24 Preset.
One clip filmed with Nikon D800 (1080p@24), 16 seconds long
Added two shapes (very thin lines), one text, one  "Solid Layer" for vignetting, and then Nul for tracker which is for the lines and text.
All the Effects are in the videoclip: Sharpen, Levels, Broadcast Colors, SA Color Finesse 3, Unsharp Mask
I've used Numpad 0 almost all the time for preview. But is the space bar preview for previewing AFTER numpad 0 RAM-preview, because the RAM preview makes the green line over the composition. But if the most of the preview is done by NumPad 0, what's the meaning of the space button -preview in the After Effects when it seems to be a wrong way to preview.
Is there any way to improve this preview? More RAM, faster CPU?

  • Why are the animated Gifs in Firefox 4 moving so slow and choppy?

When ever I try and look at an animated gif in firefox 4, well, it's just slow and choppy. I google searched and haven't found and remedies to the situation.

    Try to disable hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

  • My Movies are slow and choppy on my HP Laptop from iTunes

My two movies i have purchased of iTunes are slow and choppy. Ihave a HP Pavilion G6 Notebook Laptop and need to know how to fix this

I posted this elsewhere, but it might help you:
I have a G5 2009. Magic mouse, and all latest updates etc.
I too had the Magic Mouse quit working properly. The clicks and scroll would function, but the pointer barely moved. This followed a period of pleasure in perfect performance. If the mouse was brought close to the top or back of the tower, the pointer worked. Move it a foot in front, and the pointer quit or went very sluggish.
I gave up looking for a solution, and went the tethered mouse route.
Over the holidays I spent some more time in finding a solution, same old same old.
Today I stumbled upon a SOLUTION!
I SET MY MOUSE ON TOP OF A BOOK, WITH A FOIL COVER, AND THE POINTER CAME TO LIFE.
I used an aluminum cookie sheet, and it worked. So I've made a mouse pad from some sandpapered thin aluminum flashing material, spray glued to a 1/4 inch thick square of ply.
Aluminum foil didn't do it for me, which was counterintuitive, but the flashing is perfect.
Of course, you could stay with a book, or book cover.
Give it a try! If it works, let me know.

  • Videos played via internet are so slow and choppy, SLOW Firefox

Was wondering if anyone knew for sure the reason why videos/movie trailers played thru either Safari or Firefox are extremely slow and choppy on my G5 imac or G4 iBook laptop. Not sure if the outdated processors cant handle the flash embedded videos Youtube, Quicktime and other sites post, but it is really annoying not to be able to watch anything smoothly. Even if i let the entire video load (if it is a quicktime), then play it, it still is very choppy. The audio plays fine, but the video never keeps up. I have a 6mb DSL connection, so that cant be the problem. Any video I play via my iPod Touch (aside from flash videos it cant play) they are as smooth as can be (And that is via a wireless connection). Which makes me think it is a processor issue. Any thoughts?
Anyone have any suggestions on how I can remedy this situation? (aside from buying a new computer...)
PLUS, does anyone notice how slow Firefox is, or is it just me? Seems like even when i type in this form field, time lags as the letters show up. I have the latest version, and it is so slow. Switching tabs takes time... Reading and accessing RSS fields in the Feed Sidebar plug in is really slow...
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

QuickTime is designed to "drop" frames during playback when the machine can't keep up with the video data rate (audio continues normally). This may appear as a "stutter" during playback on an older machine.
It's not based on the Internet connection speed.
Apple movie trailers use the newer (2005) H.264 video codec and they demand a high CPU (Intel is best). You should get better performance on your G5 than on the G4.
Videos encoded using Flash will be equally difficult to view on older machines

  • Why do I have HBO and Cinemax if it's not part of my subscription?

Not understanding why I suddenly have HBO and Cinemax if I have not signed up for either one. I'm a new customer, just got a Fios bundle installed on Thursday. Have the TV Prime HD package with the free Epix/Starz/Showtime subscription. I never signed up for HBO/Cinemax and they're not listed on my programs online. Is this a free trial/preview type thing or should I contact Verizon about it?

    Free preview weekend starts 9/17

  • My sister has an iPad with iOS 6.1.3 and I have an iPod with iOS 6.1.3 why does she have Siri and I don't?

My sister has an iPad with iOS 6.1.3 and I have an iPod with iOS 6.1.3 also why does she have Siri and I don't?

Siri requires a 5th generation iPod Touch. Yours appears to be a 4th generation.

  • Why the video is slow and stutter on the viewer clip?

Why the video is slow and stutter when I drag the mouse on the cursor to check from left to right?
I just upgraded to imac 20" and I had never had this problem with my old mac. The old mac seemed to be smoother than this one.
The only difference was my 1 TB external hardrive is linkup using USB 2.0 this time round since I've not purchased the Firewire 800 yet. Does using USB 2.0 cause this problem?

I noticed something from my previous iMac. When I drag the cursor from left to right, there is no sound when I'm dragging. Thus, that makes me think that the absence of audio produce smoother flow. How do I disable the audio while I'm working on the viewer then?

  • InDesign CC (CS7) Scrolling and moving around so slow and choppy!!

Adobe - please send out an update for CC!! Me and IT dept checked my Mac system requirements and all is fine there. Moving around on my pages (e.g. hand tool) and scrolling is so choppy, slow, and lags. And sometimes my art disappears and I'm looking at blank pages until I stop or let refresh for a bit.
I also noticed that when I'm in "preview mode," CPUs go down and much less choppy and smoother moving around, but I can't work in preview mode. (e.g. I need hidden characters on for Indexing markers, and my frames and guides on).
CS6 works MUCH smoother, but I can't save client files down if that's how they provide them to me. Please recommend any other suggestions or hopefully an update will help this issue.

I also hop on the issue to give it some more attention.
InDesign scolling lags badly, Tools are slow, Program crashes. Equal problems using Illustrator/Photoshop.
My Mac is not the newest – but CS6 was running like a charm before.
    Some TechSpecs:
    OSX Mavericks (Clean Install)
    Core2Duo 2.4 GhZ
    8GB 1067MhZ DDR3 RAM
    OCZ Vertex SSD 256GB
Currently using the Test-Period of CC on this machine to figure out how it works – but that should not be a problem as the Programs are the same. As a student I would prefer the current discount offer (the normal rate is al little too much for me right now). Please fix this problem, otherwise I can't buy it the next year. Btw. Subscription method is great compared to the old payment method.

  • Slow and laggy scrolling when using a touchscreen, any fix for this?

I'm using FF on a touchscreen "flip" laptop and scrolling is choppy and laggy!
In IE11/Chrome/Opera12&20 it's smooth. Any one know how to fix this, I've tried the SmoothWheel and YASM add-ons and they only made things worse.
IE, Chrome and Opera is like browsing and scrolling on a HTC One m8/iPhone5s and FF feels like using my old Nokia 5800 from 2008.
FF have a lot of customization features that Chrome and Opera 20 doesn't have and Opera 12 is no longer being upgraded/supported, so I would like to be able to continue using FF.

I have, it was just showing up because I hadn't rebootet after upgrading from 12 to 13. I have tried booting FF in safe mode, with and without hardware acceleration & smooth scrolling. Scrolling (horizontally and vertically) and zooming is still slow and laggy.
I tried FF 28.0 Beta with the Metro(Modern) mode, and thats nothing I'll use, at least until you can use plug-ins/add-ons. I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro not RT.

  • Facebook and Twitter slow and choppy on macbook air?

It happens everyone in awhile with a website like Facebook, Twitter, and sometimes others.  Is it normal?  It's a sort of choppy scrolling feeling.

If you are using Safari to access Facebook and Twitter ...
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari. Try those sites.

  • Why is clone brush slowing and lagging?

Before I explain my Lightroom issue, I want to describe my hardware platform because it may be relevant to solving my problem.
    Asus P5B Deluxe motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 mghz cpu
    8 gigs Corsair ram
New Invidia EGVA GeForce 750 Ti with 2 gigs (video card)
    Corsair 520 watt power supply
4 internal hard drives, all running at 7200 rpm
1 Samsung 250 gig SSD (sold state drive)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, Svc pak 1
    Lightroom 5.7
For the last several months I have been working with scanned 35mm slides. These, in some cases, are more than 60 years old. Time and dust have taken their toll and in doing so have provided me with many hours of Lightroom work. Typically, I am rebalancing color casts, exposures, tonal aberrations, noise induced by a careless scanning company, i.e. the usual types of edits one would perform in LR. Additionally, because of dust spots and emulsion abrasions on the slides, I am also making significant use of the Spot Healing Brush, which I use in the clone mode. This is a mighty fine and powerful tool which has allowed me to resurrect many a damaged image.
The scanned slides were returned to me as JPGs, which I have turned into TIF files to help them survive multiple edits and saves. The TIF files I am working with are mostly in the range of 40-45 mbytes.
Here’s my problem. About two weeks ago I began to notice that the more edits I performed on an individual file, the slower and more erratic the clone spotting brush became. This slowdown progressed from a near instantaneous selection and application of a clone patch to a crawling 3 to 4 seconds for the system to select a clone patch with up to 5 or 6 seconds for the patch to be applied to the defect area. Also, when I call the brush erratic, I mean that it jumps around somewhat not allowing me to position it accurately until the previous clone has been applied. Given the amount of work I still have to do on over 1000 slides, this is a state of affairs that is tough to tolerate.
Some of the slides have more than 60 or 70 edits showing in the History window. The vast majority of those edits on a given slide (I estimate 85% or more) represent individually cloned spots. The slowing typically begins at about 15-20 of these cloning edits and gets progressively worse as they accumulate.
So far I have taken the following steps to try to improve the situation. I have cleared the only LR caches I know about, those being the RAW cache and the video cache, neither of which would seem relevant given their names. I have deleted the History steps of images. I have moved my catalogs to the SSD drive. None of this has had a noticeable effect on the situation.
My question is: What’s going on here?
Are clone edits different from other edits in the way they are stored/written/cached?
Are edits typically written immediately to the catalog, or are they cached in ram or in the cpu cache?
What else could be happening to cause this behavior?
I am willing to upgrade my hardware. In fact I have ordered an Intel i7 cpu and appropriate motherboard and 16 gigs of ram. However, before I open these boxes I need more assurance that this upgrade will actually help the condition I am describing and that it is not some kind of hard limitation of Lightroom itself that will remain unrelieved by the upgrade.
I would welcome responses from anyone who could really explain what’s happening, particularly from Adobe staff. Thanks in advance for your help.
    Bill Gordon

Here’s my problem. About two weeks ago I began to notice that the more edits I performed on an individual file, the slower and more erratic the clone spotting brush became.
This is a known issue with Lightroom. Lots of cloning or brushing will cause Lightroom to slow down.
There really isn't much to do about this. You could either:
Get a faster CPU, which should speed things up (whether or not it speeds up enough is unknown)
Do the cloning and brushing in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, where there should be no speed issues in performing these tasks

  • Why is my macbook Slow and fan always running

I recently upgraded to Mavericks, and since then my computer has been slow and lagging a lot. I see the perpetual spinning beach ball more than I would like. I have done everything I can think of within my knowledge to rectify the problem but it still seems slow to me. I have unistalled apps, cleared caches, run an antivirus, run onyx and cleanmymac applications. I don't know what else I can do. I also find that my fan is running constantly and when I look at the activity monitor nothing is eating my CPU, in fact it is always below 10%. Here is my most recent Etrescheck. PLEASE HELP!! I'm open to all and any suggestions. Thank YOu

Installing CleanMyMac will corrupt your system. I know of no way to recover from its effects other than to reinstall OS X and other essential software. "Essential" is defined to specifically exclude CleanMyMac as well as all similarly ill-conceived "cleaning" products that are likely to have similar effects. Never install such junk on a Mac.
Erasing your Mac will have the benefit of eradicating it, the useless Avast garbage, and Internet Plug-Ins as well.
You are likely to need more memory. 2 GB is barely sufficient to run any OS later than Snow Leopard. Your MacBook can address as much as 8 GB and I recommend at least 4 GB.

  • Why dont I have settings and Utilities in my "Tool...

    hi,
For some reason I dont have settings and utilities in my tools menu? Does anyone know why or how I can fix this? There is so much i cant do without it. I have tried updating my n96 through my pc with the nokia updater software but it keeps saying that it cannot find my phone connected.
Thanks for your help. I really have no idea what to do.
    Cheers

Hi, you may be able to find the functions you need in file manager and move them back to the location you want them in.Would involve less re-setting than a hard reset (which will almost certainly work by the way, just takes a while to set up phone again)
    Good Luck

  • Why is Safari becoming slow and unresponsive?

Ok - I have exactly the same problem.  I can run safari and use it.  After a short while it becomes slow and unresponsive.  When I quit I get the rainbow ball of death and the only way I can stop the application is to force quit.
It is definitely linked to a particular network account as the guest account check above shows that it runs fine on another account.
As I watch system memory in actvity monitor while I use safari the fhe following occurs:
    1.     free memory gets gradually used up to about 50%
    2.     Inactive memory gradually builds to about 50% of total
    3.     Then page in and page outs build massively and the swap file goes into overdrive
I have 32GB memory on board but even so it doesn't take long for Safari to gobble it up.
At the same time CPU % shows 90-100% and Real Mem sits around 15-18GB.
By this stage the whole machine is slow and unresponsive as safari ***** up all its processor and memory resources.
I have taken the following action:
    1.     reset safari using the reset process built into the app - no difference
    2.     deleted the preferences file - no difference
    3.     deleted the Library/cache file - no difference
Thought about resetting NVRAM but decided that it wouldn't make much difference because it seems to be linked to a user.
Any thoughts/suggestions on other actions I can take would be welcome.
Are there other cache or preference files that I should be trashing.  Can I delete and reinstall safari?  I don't really want to have to go through the process of establishing a new user and rebuilding a reasonably substantial docs and photo library and set up.
    Help.
    <Re-Titled By Host>

You forgot to mention what version of Safari you have, but:
If Safari is getting very slow:
(Presumably you regularly empty your Safari cache by deleting the following file:

Adding Open DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security, (including anti-phishing and redirects) (Full information about Open DNS is here: http://www.opendns.com/home/nobloat ) and further independent information can be read here:

If you are using a single computer: Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)
Sometimes reversing the order of the DNS numbers can be beneficial in cases where there is a long delay before web pages start to load, and then suddenly load at normal speed:

If your computer is part of a network:please refer to this page: http://www.opendns.com/start/best_practices/#your_network and follow the advice given.
If you use a Router, make sure it has the latest firmware installed.
One reason for a slowness in page loading may be the 'DNS Pre-fetching' feature of Safari 5.x as is described here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3408?viewlocale=en_US
You can cancel DNS pre-fetching by going to Terminal and typing:
defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false
You have to restart Safari for it to take effect.
If Safari seems to hang for ages:
If you have a lot of tabs open and/or a lot of pages running Flash, Safari can sometimes 'hang', requiring a restart of Safari. This can often be inconvenient, and as it is rarely Safari itself that is hanging but merely one of its plug-ins, usually Flash, there is a way using Terminal to restart the plug-ins (without restarting Safari and losing your tabs) by quitting the WebPluginHost process:
Open the Terminal from the Utilities folder in /Applications and type
    killall -9 WebKitPluginHost
Note that this command kills all Safari plug-ins, not just Flash. All plug-ins should start back up when you reload the page.
Then go back to Safari and refresh any pages that were using the Flash plug-in. This also fixes the Beachball of Death. Try this whenever Safari gets slow or freezes. The later versions of Flash 10.1 onwards appear to have improved the situation somewhat, but haven't completed eliminated it.
For this and other reasons Apple switched their websites to HTML5 in January 2011:
