Why do I have to "activate" my account after 10 years?

Why should this happen, when the account has been in use for several years?

My guess is that the modem was somehow reset, and is stuck on activation. (This was set to be on by default in several of Verizon's modems.)
Have your renter open a browser window and go to 192.168.1.1/verizon/redirect.htm
They will need to login with the modem's username and password, which is not the same as the account username and password. (If you do not remember/it isn't working, provide the make/model of the modem and someone can provide the defaults.)
Once logged in, they should have a disable button. Click it.

    Do you have Automatic downloads enabled? Note this only works for items purchased after it is enabled.

    Primarily because those third party apps are just that, they are not Apple apps, and each have their own requirements for activation.

    Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.

    It is possible that the <i>cookies.sqlite</i> file that stores the cookies is corrupted if clearing cookies doesn't work.
    Rename (or delete) <b>cookies.sqlite</b> (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookies files like <b>cookies.sqlite-journal</b> in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

    No.
    One of you create a new AppleID and one use the existing AppleID.
    But you can still use the items in each iTunes library.
    Create separate computer logins for each of you.
    This will give you each your own data. Contacts, calendars, photos, etc. (and your own iTunes library).

    Get a separate Apple ID for one of the phones. Or turn OFF iCloud contacts synching on the one you do not want contacts to synch.

    This most likely means you have a 2nd AppleID that has this same email address listed as an alternate email address for it.

    Check to see if any of your other email addresses or AppleIDs and family members email addresses or AppleIDs have your main email account associated with it as an alternate email… because if they do, it won't send the verification email since it's already verified to another account.
    You may need to change your email account to a 3rd or 4th one to disassociate it with this one first; then on the Apple ID website there's a section that says: Not Sure if you have an Apple ID? Find Out >
    This will help you find the name on the other account and if you cannot get in to that account you should be able to receive a password reset to it.

    If you cannot find the account you can try emailing iTunes and/or call Apple and check if they can find the account that is still associated with the email address you are trying to use for this.

    OmniDiskSweeper and Grand perspective do not delete files.  They simply are tools to show what you have on your MBA and you have to take action if you want to delete data or transfer the data to an external HDD.
    The title OTHER is not very descriptive and some people get nervous as a result.  One should not focus on the title of the category, but the actual files that may be included by the OSX in that category.  Based on your last post, the game that you deleted was vied by the OSX as an OTHER file.

    I have recently bought an iPad. Was trying to set up iCloud today and was asked to create an @me.com email address (I usually use my gmail account as my apple ID). When I went on to my mac I realised that was linked to a different @me.com email address that I must have created previously.
    Both are linked to my gmail apple I'd 
    Is there any way I can merge them into one or delete one?

    If None is not available - On your computer launch iTunes and click "iTunes Store" in the left navigation pane. Click the "down arrow" next to your name at the top right side of the page and click "Account." Enter your username and password and click "View Account" to log into your account information. Next to your Payment Type, click "Edit." Select the "None" button and click "Done." Confirm that your card has been removed by returning to the Apple account information screen. Under Payment Type, it should say that there is no credit card on file.
