Why do I have to hit the Caps Lock button a few times?

Okay, I have a brand new MacBook Pro, and the fact that I have to hit the Caps Lock button two or three times to actually turn on Caps Lock is quite frustrating. My friend on MacBook Air experiences same kind of issue? Are there any people with the same problem? Is it because something is fundamentally wrong with my Mac? Can I do something about it?

Having the same issue!!! After I haven't pressed the Caps Lock button for a while, I have to press the button twice for the light to come on.  Had a MBA, talked to a Apple Care representative and they said that was a defect, returned the MBA, bought a MBP and now I am having the same issue.  If it's any reassurance I noticed this same issue in a notebook display at an Apple Store.  I'm wondering if I not actually pressing the button hard enough each time.

I updated internet explorer also changing my server provider so that my web page contact emails would go thru. I have quest broadband and could not use my yahoo accounts as they are not compatible, had me open a q.com email will transfer to outlook for my web pages. That all works, but now firefox is acting up.

Many business users chose to use the downgrade option to XP until Windows 7 had been out awhile longer ,which may be what happened on your machine. Where I work, most all of the machines still run XP.
Recovery Disks contain the OS and all drivers/software for a specific model. A plain Windows disk contains just the OS.Not sure which you have, but a true Recovery Disk set will not work on any machine.
It really sounds like you have a Windows Repair disk which requires a backup image to repair an installation.Could you confirm what exact disk you have?

Why are songs cutting out in the middle and my ipod shutting down?I have to hit the sleep/wake button to turn it back on and hit play again. Then, the songs will play from where it left off.

I cannot log into my mac. I have determined that the caps lock is on no matter if the caps lock light is on or off. Anything I can do?

Begin by resetting the SMC and PRAM each at least 2x. If that won't work book an appointment at your local Apple Store or AASP. However before doing so, after  you have done the resets (assuming they do not work) test another keyboard to determine if it's the keyboard or computer.

Or, allow us to change the look of the keyboard as we would like? How simple would that be?

  • To open Front Row, why do you have to hit the menu button twice?

I notice that when I first restart my computer and want to access front row via the apple remote, I have to hit the menu button twice to activate it. Does anybody know why this is?

Not sure, but I don't think FrontRow is set to run when you start the computer. When you click the menu button it'll start up the program - this will take a little time.
Just a though, but maybe you're not giving it long enough after the first button click to start up and enter FrontRow? Since I rarely reboot my Mac (just put it to sleep) I haven't experienced your problem.

    Dear Customer,
Welcome and Thank you for posting your query on HP Support Forum
It looks like your Notebook has a blinking/flashing CAPSLOCK light and a blank screen all the time
Whenever the Capslock LED Blinks once that means CPU not functional and we need to replace the Processor
However, I would request with you to perform the below shown step before contacting HP
Step 01. Turn OFF the Notebook
Step 02. Un-plug the Power/AC Adapter and also remove the battery too
Step 03. Press and Hold the Power Button on the Notebook for a full minute
Step 04. Test your Notebook with Battery and Power Adapter alone
Note: If you are still facing the same issue try to remove and reseat the Memory Modules of your Notebook
Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again

  • Caps lock button acting very strange.

I recently got a Lenovo T420 thinkpad. Everything has been great until earlier today I tried to log-in to buzzport ( a GT website) and when I hit the caps lock button all these weird things happened. Google Chrome went into full screen, and the "elements" thing came up. Im not sure exactly what it is, but it looks like some sort of HTML code for the website. oh and if it also enters the text "09" when caps lock is pressed. well anyways, now this happens everytime I press caps lock. I opened notepad and pressed caps lock. The result was "09" followed by an endless stream of 1's which continued until I pressed caps lock again. This is very strange and I couldn't find any information about this on google. I don't know what could have caused this, but its very frustrating because this is a brand new laptop. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
edit: so i've been playing with it, and im convinced that basically instead of just doing what caps lock does, it is pressing a series of other buttons as well including the 09, the 1's, and opening what i now know is called the elements pannel which normally opens with ctrl + shift + C. so in other words, for some reason pressing caps lock preses the buttons "09 ctrl + shift + C 11111111111111111111111111111111111111111"
edit 2: ok it just got weirder. I fixed the problem...sort of. I started thinking about everything i have done differently today. I mean ive only had the lap top for a few days after all. tonight is the first night i used the mute button. i unmuted the laptop, and now everything is fine. if i mute, then caps lock acts weird again. I could just always go to zero volume rather than mute, but just as a curiosity, why is this happening? it makes no sense!

I noticed that some problems don't seem to get attention. I am typing this using a bluetooth keyboard on top of my G4 PowerBook, which is hardly an elegant solution to my caps lock problem. If I spend close to $2000 on a laptop, which is close to the most I spend on any consumer product after a house and car, is it unreasonable to expect that after a mere four years, it can be repaired, rather than simply tossed aside. I am an expat living in a SE Asian country without any Apple Authorised resellers etc. When I make the trip to Thailand to get my machine fixed, I'd like to know that someone there will know what to do to sort this problem, without me being faced with the prospect of having to pay a lot of money to buy a new one or replace hardware that is not in fact needing replaced. That is why I posted on this forum. Was I mistaken in thinking that in the entire Mac using community, there isn't more than one other person having the same issue as me? Is anybody from Apple aware of this problem and do they have any idea how to fix it? I'm not seeking to be antagonistic here, I'd just like to think that somebody, somewhere out there has some idea, what has gone wrong with my PowerBook and can help me get it fixed.
p.s I sorted out the large fuzzy Apple on startup by zapping the PROM, so that doesn't seem to be directly connected to the game of green light tennis I can now play between my caps lock and num lock keys. (My caps lock key is permanently lit and when I try to turn it off, it reduces the volume of my speakers and "types" "rfr" and other such gobbledegook.)

ps I have not got the recovery disks (lost when we moved)

Sorry to hear that. Please refer to the Blank Screen LED Error Codes document from HP Support. It sounds like a "General system board failure." The explanation says to contact HP for assistance. The motherboard might need to be replaced, and you will probably require the assistance of a technician to fix the problem.

  • How to turn the Caps Lock notification off?

Every time I press Caps Lock, a giant grey notification appears in the middle of my screen for a few seconds. I really want to turn this off because it annoys the hell out of me. Any idea how?

    hi JoeMorris,
Thank you posting and welcome to the community.
After reading you r post I'd like to get a clarification of the Issue? May I know which Lenovo Model do you have in your possession? Another thing i'd like to know is which windows version are you using?
Most newer lenovo models when hitting the caps lock on or off will display a small icon. on the bottom right of the screen and none like the ones you mention in your post which is displayed in the middle of the screen. These type of display are normally seen in the older machines.
The display option you mentioned are normally controlled by the "On Screen Display" Driver which can be found in the control panel. You might want to uninstall the "On screen Display".
Do let me know on how it goes and post your finding. I'll assist you further with the information provided.

  • IMac Black Screen, making some progress with the CAPS LOCK key...What???!!!

Ok, super weird situation here. My friend brought me his iMac because when he turns it on, it makes the chime sound, the front light goes on, but the screen stays black.
The first thing I tried (as a former pc user) whas to start pressing the CAPS LOCK ON and OFF to see if the computer froze at some point, but to my surprise, after hitting the CAPS LOCK many times the screen appeared.
Ok, but the white screen with the gray apple was all distorted, the apple with be filled with little rainbow boxes and lines on the whole screen, so I thought, the Video converter might be bad.
But then, when I tried for the third of fourth time, it appeared the same white scren with the gray apple and the progress circle spinning again, but this time it looked perfect, BUT it froze, and it just stayed there.
Thats what I have so far......any ideas? I tried the Controlcommand+PR but it didnt do anything......
    Thanks

It appears that the Mac is passing the Power On Start Test which results in the chime advising that the RAM seems OK. But there is something wrong with the boot volume. Try booting from the Install DVD that came with the Mac. In the Utilities menu of the Installer use Disk Utility to Repair Disk. In the left hand list choose the boot volume. On the right hand, in the First Aid pane press the Repair Disk button. Repeat until no repairs are reported.

  • Anyone know how to disable the "caps lock" key?

I'm a klutz typist who needs to look at the keys when I type, and I often hit the caps lock key by mistake and have to go back and retype a lot. There used to be in the real old days a freeware utility to do this, but I don't know how to do it today.
