Why do I have to keep relinking

Question

Everytime I open an Illustrator file it asks me to find and relink a tiff file.
I do that.
When I check the links pallet there's a "?" on the right side of the pallet.
Just to check out what's going on I relink using the links pallet.
The "?" mark stays there
I save the file.
When I open it, it asks me to find and relink the file.
The tiff file that I placed is in the same folder as the Illustrator file.
What's happening.
I'm using CS4, Mac Pro, OS 10.6.4.
Any advise would be appreciated

Unless you are logged in as a user without administrative privileges then that appears to be the problem.
That is why it keeps asking you to relink the file it thinks you are a guest and not someone who has the rignt to access such files on a permaanent basis. At least I think it is worth a try. Add administrators as a user with privileges.
Also look at the permissions for the image files in that folder not just the folder and also for that disk or partition.
If all is fine there then you are correct it was a good thought and something that has come u in the past concerning this problem.
I once had to change the privileges on like thirty directories before I overcame a similar problem.
If this is not the problem then I would think your user account is corrupt and you should try to create a new user account with administrative privileges and log in then relink then quit and close the file relaunch and open the file again if all is ok then, it is a corrupt user account or permissions.
Also try to trash the settings folder and run the disk utility and repair the permissions that way. While you are at it verify the the integrity of that disk als with the disk utility.
It must be a very frustrating problem to face.
