Why do I have to redownload music I have already purchased?

HELP PLEASE!
I am finding it increasingly frustrating that I am not able to listen to music I have purchased. My albums are showing up split on my music app in random orders and some songs, yet again are randomly missing showing the iCloud symbol. I purchase music for the intention of listening to it then and there not for iTunes to decide what I can and cannot listen too. If I have no internet, I cannot listen to the song.
Please help.
Many thanks

I am having the same problem. I have episodes that have "downloaded" dozens of times without ever being viewable. I have done MSCONFIG, checked diagnostics, turned off all firewalls and filters; added iTunes, Apple, and all the phobos.apple.com addresses to my approved sites, deleted the file out of my cache and retrieved the episode fresh from my purchased list, and religiously updated my DirectX version. Nothing works, and it has been this way ever since iTunes 7 came out. I had no problems previously. Plus it is now taking around 30 hours to download a 490MB file. Then it starts over! Anyone have a suggestion?

You might still be able to recover them using one of the methods discussed in this older thread, but many of them require a full functional, noncorrupted iPod filesystem in order to work properly.

This is not true. Content can and is removed from the iTunes Store by copyright holders, for various reasons, at any time. When this happens the purchased items are no longer available in the purchase history. This is why it is a good idea to always download all purchases and back them up locally.

you are entitled to a refund for that purchase.
    This certainly is not true.

  • ITunes is not recognizing my new computer and not allowing me to download my music that I already purchased even though it recognizes my registered iPod.

I got a new computer and downloaded iTunes. When I tried to download music that I already purchased I got a message that my computer was not authorized although my iPod was plugged in and it was recognized. I don't see anywhere that I can register my new computer. Can someone help me?

    - You do have iTunes version 11 on the computer, right. Saying the latest is not sufficient.
    - Have you tried everthing here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    - You should
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
Your library/media will not be affected.
    - Does the iPod charge?

I just want to make sure this doesn't happen again.
Make sure you back up your computer before installing any updates.
Installing an update should not delete files but from reports here it happens occasionally.  We don't know why and given that probably only a very few people lose their libraries through updating versus millions of updates it is something you simply have to prepare against.  I am not even sure what happened in your case because thgis presence of some files doesn't match anything I can think would happen.

  • I am have trouble getting music I have already purchased in the past to transfer to my phone after I did an update.  The music is there and I can see it but it cannot be played when the music is put on shuffle. It just skips right past it? How do you fix?

I am having trouble.getting music that I have purchased in the past to transfer to my phone after I did recent update on the phone. I can see the music, it is in a lighter font and appears to still be there but will not play.  When placed on shuffle it will skip right over this music. I have already paid for this music and have been able to play it at one time but that was before the update. Why can I not listen to this music anymore?

Did you ever resolve the iCloud problem.I am in the same position and its driving me mad!!! If you have a link to an solution I would appreciate it.

Downloading (using iOS or computer) past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not all media formats are available in all countries (see: iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match Availability by Country - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085); apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this).  Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later.  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list (e.g., ringtones, audiobooks), or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.  Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.
Select the iTunes Store on the left side of iTunes.
Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
You can re-download your available previous purchases.

  • Music I've already purchased re-downloading?

I went to open iTunes today to rip a cd, and when I opened the program, I was prompted to enter my username and password, to download previous purchases I have made that have not downloaded yet. In the past week or so, I tried to buy a song on iTunes a couple of time, but it said each time that there was an error in the store when I clicked on "purchase song", and I should come back later, so I just temporarily gave up. Anyway, I entered my username and password (even though I'm on my laptop, where I am *always* logged on) because I assumed that the store might mean that I was going to download the song I've been trying to buy.
What ended up happening, though, was that a soundtrack that I've had for a couple of years immediately began re-downloading; it's a large soundtrack, about twenty five dollars, so I immediately paused the download when I realized what was happening, and went to check my bank account; as of now, I have not been charged for an iTunes purchase, but I have duplicates of all the songs that downloaded before I paused the download.
Does anyone know why this happened, and if I will be charged for a second purchase? I am worried because the sountrack is fifteen dollars, and (being a permanently broke college student) I really can't afford things like that right now. The tracks that did not download are paused at the moment, and the original soundtrack that I have had for a couple of years is still in my library, and playing without any problems. I really have no clue as to why it started downloading.
Any info would be great-- thanks!!

It sounds like you are referring to music you already owned (CD's, downloads from sources other than the iTunes Store). I'm assuming you are new to the iPhone...if not then I'm not sure what the problem may be. But, if you ARE new to the iPhone and also new to using iTunes then your issue may be that you haven't imported your music files in to iTunes. They need to be in the iTunes library in order for you to add them to your iPhone. This is true regardless of which iOS you have. This is free but depending on how many music files you have it may take some time to get them all in the library. Try looking at the following links to see if they help.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
You can always redownload iTunes purchases by:

  • I already purchased the OS X Mountain Lion via App Store, why is it i cannot download it?, I already purchased the OS X Mountain Lion via App Store, why is it i cannot download it?

I have macbook air (11 inch, mid 2011) with the latest version 10.7.5, with Mac OS X Lion, so i've decided to upgrade it to mountain lion, but why cant I download it? The mountain lion icon appeared in my launchpad but the download does not push through. Why is that so? Thanks for your help.

For effective and efficient use of your cxomputer the hard drive should always have at least 15% of its storage capacity Free, to use for swap files and OS management.  If you only have 33 GB's free, that sounds a little iffy.  I would start by trying to free up some space, then go from there in your troubleshooting.
    Hope this helps

  • I keep having to redownload songs I've already purchased

I bought songs from itunes on my phone. They stay in my Music for about a day, then they disappear and I have to go to the iTunes app, click on 'Purchased', and then download them all over again from iCloud(the little cloud button is there so i'm assuming it's downloading them from icloud?). How can I make them stay in my library?

And what exactly? What software? What's the problem? You need to explain much better.

  • Any truth to Apple letting you re-downlaod music already purchased that somehow got lost...or inmy case, deleted

I moved my music files to an external harddrive that has since been corrupted.  I can't retrieve my hundreds of songs and was really bummed about it until two people told me that Apple will honor a one time re-downloading deal for music that you already purchased.  I need to get up on that for realz

Upgrade to 10.3 or later and go to the itunes store and then go to Purchases (NEW). You can redownload them as many times as needed with the new cloud network. I know what you mean, I recently had my iphone to die on me and i lost everything from the past 3 weeks since my last backup, but itunes let me redownload them. hope this helps
