Why do I HAVE to reinstall a newer version of iTunes?

I've had my iPod nano 3G since christmas and it worked fine. I plugged it in, and it showed up no problem. About 2 months ago when I plugged my iPod into the computer, my computer didnt show my iPod in the window and I got an error message saying, "the iPod couldnt be used because it requires iTunes version 7.6 or later go to itunes.com to download the latest version of itunes." I went to do this and when I downloaded the new version I got another error message saying something like "you need windows XP to download iTunes.." ***?! I HAVE windows XP! So I went to see if my windows needed updating and yes it did. So I updated it and guess what?....NOTHING WORKED! Im STILL getting the message I told you I got before! I've been dealing with this problem for 2 months and still nothing please,PLEASE HELP!!!

I went to do this and when I downloaded the new version I got another error message saying something like "you need windows XP to download iTunes ... I HAVE windows XP!
Do you have at least *Service Pack 2* for XP installed on the PC?

What is the exact text of the message you get. Take a screen shot (command/shift/4 and post it. Also, what do you see regarding iTunes if you go to App Store/Updates?

As long as its the same computer, the new version should simply upgrade your old version with nothing else changed.

Why does "check for updates" not download new version of itunes?

On windows XP FP 3, if I start Itunes of late I get a messsage that there is a new (10.5.3) version of itunes to download. I agree to download iTunes, and itunes freezes up for a bit, then nothin. Suggestions? I am getting tired of uninstalling and reinstalling every time this happens.

Check for updates is intended for use after production when we might have small changes to 1-2 files. Our current releases have many changes to many files and might almost be as large as the download. Also, we are still making structural changes to the storage of the code (shifting around preferences, etc). For the Early Adopter Releases, we really want people to download and install in a clean directory. After production, we will support check for update.

Can I still have multiple windows in new versions of iTunes as befire?

With previous versions of iTunes I was able to have the iTunes store, my library and other libraries in separate windows. It seems with newer versions that is no longer possible. Does anybody have figure out how to it?

Before connecting your devices again reboot your devices. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

I have just got the new version of iTunes. It does not seem to be recognising either my iPhone 5 or iPhone 4. They do not appear in the device list at all, they are clearly conencted to my computer as they are charging off it, but I can't sync them.

They were both functioning fine yesterday, but after the v.11 download today they aren't being recognised. Can anyone help me to get them syncing again? I am using an iMac, Mac OS X v.10.7.5, if thats of any significance.

I don't know why but when I just downloaded the new version of ITunes, all of my previous songs on my old itunes was deleted. They were transferred onto my phone but aren't on my computer anymore. Please HELP!

It should be telling you to download the latest iTunes on your computer... you can't install iTunes on your iPhone.

With the new version of ITune, I do not know how to add a podcast to a playlist. The "add to playlist" which was easily found on older versions is not available. Your help will be appreciated.

I have difficulties with the new version of ITune, which I never experienced in the older versions.
1. I do not know how to transfer a new radio podcast to a playlist. The previous option "show in playlist" does not appear.
2. I do not know how to download an older podcast from the list of available ones offered for download. The latest one only is downloading, none other, not even the most recent but one.

TS1424 Can't get Genius Suggestions to work in new version of ITunes

Genius Suggestions used to come up automatically in previous versions. Miss that a lot!! Help menu says select Genius Playlist (where is that), select song & choose Genius Suggestions from action menu (where is that) and then click create genius playlist. Click refresh for new songs.
Non of the above is working for me.,

if you have updated to the new versions of iTunes then just hit CTRL S and the play list should be on the left side of you screen

I waste all my time to set all album art on my iPod, then it just gone. kindly pls fix this issue. hate this new version of iTunes, so complicated.
The first thing i saw after i install new version of iTunes, it showed only music files. I don't know where to look for the old version of Sidebar. I keep on trying to look for it where I can see or any sign off button just to show up this stupid SideBar. Also, why i couldn't find? The "Menu Bar" is also hide!
Until i found out in "View" tab. Then i saw the Show Sidebar. Question? why do you need to hide that Side Bar? For what?. it is so so so complicated specially to those people who can't relate for this. (Also the button (from previous iTunes) to show the Album Art, now it's gone. I check every Tab, but there's no way to see the Album Art.)
Another comment. I download also some of my songs to my iPod, I wasted my time to collect all of my favorite music files. Also some are came from CD's and friends. I had all that favorite music in my iPod. Then the version iOS 5.+ came then I updated my iPod, another options to save files (iCloud) but I think there are something that I MISS about updating my iPod. Then suddenly I checked my iPod... all music (with Album Arts) are gone. All Apps are Gone. Videos as well.
If you don't know how to use that iCloud (with only 5GB storage), you'll gonna miss/lost everything.
Then I start all over again, i still have my BACK UP, good to have that. Now it's all set until I update the latest iOS 6. And another version of iTunes.
Then I realized my computer getting slow. I uninstalled it. My laptop started to work fast again. Then I download again the iTunes. So now I know, it has the ability to slow my computer. Everytime I turn on my iTunes, it hang. (Not Responding). Solution... CTRL+ALT+DELETE. Then every second time to open the iTunes, and it works. (it means, to open iTunes, need twice)
Then suddenly my laptop is not working. All my files has been corrupted. My Hard drive doesn't work properly. Now I don't have any stupid BACK UPs. My music files usage is 18 GB, only contacts, documents, notes, or some other files that can only fit to your "iCloud" not my 18GB music files and other photos. Your solution is to BUY more storage. Another COST! Another wasting time to set everything then need to pay more?
If you let your unit (iPod,iPhone,iPad) to export music to PC, or any mini SDcard to use as storage, it won't happen.

It has Bluetooth, right?
Use less! Doesn't work. There's no way to use it.
All I need is to install an application to use your bluetooth. (for same unit or Apple unit only). And pictures only can send via Bluetooth if you an application.
Even if you go to "Photos" check if there's a way to send pictures? there is no way to send via Bluetooth, even Photos, Songs.etc. It can't even share some other friends (even they have own iPad, iPod, iPhone or same products) who has a unit with Bluetooth.
And the last.. only one port. there's no way to watch videos through HDMI. No HDMI port, no SD or any card slot. Must to buy their products.
Very costly!

Yes, the old album art view is gone, bu you can see the album art for a song that's playing by clicking on the art image and it will open a bigger view.
Everything else in your post is a waste. I'm not going to spend time reading it. If - and I repeat if, you have a question on how to get the best out of the new look iTunes, post it. But don't spend your time in long rambling negative rants.

I receive the message: The file "iTunes library.itl"cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes. I do not know exactly what this means. I have Windows 7 on my computer and was able access itunes until just recently. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes multiple times and that does not work. Sometimes I can get in when immediately after installing, but then if I close it, i cannot get back in. Now, i can't get in at all.

That message is usually a sign that you tried to roll back to an earlier build of iTunes, but occasionally I've seen it connected to a new upgrade. This technique should fix things.
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

why do i have to create a new itunes account because I moved to Canada from the U.S.?( My current account won't let me change my address to canada so my billing address for account is incorrect, making it impossible for me to buy anything). Will it affect what I am able to put on my device i.e. already downloaded apps, music, etc?

This is not possible...
Anything Downloaded with a Particular Apple ID is tied to that Apple ID and Cannot be Merged or Transferred to a Different Apple ID.
