Why do i have to store each contact twice?

why do i have to store each contact on my iphone twice, once with the country code so that his name will display when i recieve messages from him and another time without the country code so that his name will display when i receive calls from him?
is it something with the software or with my service provider or maybe there is something i should activate in my settings?

Those may be a hidden file under Lion which is why you cannot find it.
Should be located at: ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates
I do not know why you were "forced" to download it twice unless you opted for a custom download location the first time. Doesn't happen when I do it. I'm not sure what email you are referring to.

Hi Jeyaraman, in addition to Alex's solution, check the following browser settings:
Make sure “Enable protected mode” in security tab & “Require server verification” in “sites” area are unchecked. In “Custom level,” choose “Automatic logon” way at the bottom.

Why in the world are my contact at 14,000 and have so many duplicate contacts. How in the world do I get ride of these contacts? Its the stupid Verizon Backup assistance that created all these contacts. This has occurred since I upgrade to a new IPhone

Use iCloud or iTunes to back up your phone. Then go online and delete all contacts from backup assistant.(it keeps them in the trash.) Then reset your phone and reload from your backup, then use backup assistant or Verizon cloud. Sounds like a lot but it doesn't take long.

As the title says; there are 3 duplicates of each contact in my Contacts app Version 9.0 (1498) w/ OS X 10.10 ( I think this was an issue with Mavericks as well). Also, only the first contact shows 2 "iCloud"'s underneath "cards" info (picture below), whereas the 2 other duplicates do not. No duplicate contacts with synced iPhone iOS 7.1.2.

You should only have 1 iCloud account and there may be the same contact in On My Mac. Go to System Preferences/iCloud and de-select Contacts. Check to see how many you have. Contacts/Preferences/Accounts - disable one iCloud account and delete the On My Mac.

Why do I have so many "unknown" contacts?

One of my most used contacts for both iMessage and FaceTime comes up as unknown. Most of the unknown contacts are from emails contacts. I have changed the computer I sync with from a PC to a MacBook Pro. I heard there is software to sort out contacts. Is that what I need to do?

I went back and deleted all the "unknown" email addresses (about 20 with between 15-30 cards on each). And, hey presto, my regular contact whom I chat to most days, magically reappeared in both iMessage and FaceTime. I think all the unknowns were due to syncing with my old HP Elitebook, which I no longer have. Does anyone know how I can remove it from iTunes Wi-Fi Sync?

Updating multiple ipods.Why does it have to download each time?

I have 3 ipod touches, mine, and one for each of my sons.
Why is it that when apple comes up with an update like 2.2.1 I have to download it 3 times to update the 3 ipods? I should be able to download the update 1 time and then update all 3 ipods. It is a pain having to download the same file 3 times...
Any idea about this? Am I doing something wrong?

You're doing this via iTunes, right? Which is set up to download and upgrade the firmware/software on the attached device in one operation. However, if you download the firmware/software directly you only need to do it once - the following link shows how you do this on a PC :

If you download the software/firmware directly from the Apple website instead of via iTunes, you will get one item only which you then apply yourself to each device in turn.

I'm not certain why they are not syncing. It can be addressed in a couple of different ways. You could reset the sync history and see if that helps. There is a way to add a note to a contact in the iPhone by going to edit for a contact and then scroll to the bottom and select "add field" and select note. If you already have a note added, it should appear below the contact's information and above the buttons for text message, Facetime, etc.

I have Aperture on my MacPro that was purchased before the App store was born. IT has been updated to the current version now. I also put it on my MacBookPro but it won't accept the same license - says it is invalid license. When I go to the App store, it says I can downlowd it for another $79.99, but if I try to do that, it says I already have Aperture on my laptop. So, I am stuck in a catch 22.

Nevermind. After reading other similar posts I think I figured it out. I'll have to delete my version of Aperture on my laptop and then reinstall from the App store - although I think I will still have to purchase again.

Why do I have to click each time in the "TO" bar to add an additional email address? Before 4.0, I could keep typing and adding more addresses.

When typing people to send my email to, I have ALWAYS been able to start typing and the address pops up, so I select it, then I can start another, and so on. No - sorry, my bad, I wasn't clear. I'm talking about tracks that I've never had in my library which he has in his. We have separate iTunes accounts (though they share the same credit card).
I have only just (in the last 48 hours) signed up for an iTunes Match account.
When I checked my music on the Mac in iTunes, I could see many tracks I've never had in my library but I know he does - such as the kids' music he uses for work. The tracks all have the symbol beside them which indicates they're in the Cloud. I'm just puzzled that my iTunes account would know what he has in his library and make it available to me, when his computer is not even switched on!
It's true that when we both have our Macs on, we share our respective iTunes libraries via the home wifi connection. Is iTunes somehow remembering that, even though we're not sharing at the time?
Like I said, it's not really a problem (except of course now I have even more stuff to scroll through in my library LOL!) - but I'm confused.

FWIW - your Mac is 6 years old? How long do you expect it to last? Any hard drive and logic board can die after 6 months.

Sharing ext HD - do I really have to load each CD twice into PBs separatel

We have 2 macBook Pros. Sharing an external hard drive which contains our music library. Have a home network. The issue is that we seem to each have to load every new CD separately. Shouldn't it be simpler? If our library is shared, shouldn't we only have to load once -on either Mac -but equally access the library through the XHD?

So I had many apps on my phone and then the 3Gs iphone wouldn't connect to anything so I had to get another one (my third in a year) when the phone was reset they droped the @email address off my screen name and now the phone wount sync to my itunes. Its stupid, same email address and password but now it thinks it a different account. So far its cost mt $8.00 bucks and I refuse to give apple any more money.

You need to fix your account if the screen name has changed. Once your information matches the original info, you won't have to pay to redownload apps.
