Why do I have to use task manager to close FF after I exit FF?
I use Firefox close it like normal. If I start it again it will not open and I get and error message "firefox working with other program, try closing firefox".
I then open the task manager, end process, Firefox*32.~.
I thought maybe it could have been a plug so I disabled all plug-ins. Restated FF it went to google/FF home page. I closed firefox at the X. Opened the task manager and it was still running in the end process tab.
Use "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit) to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.
In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes", try to exclude the clearing the Cookies

Why do i have to use task manager to end firefox even after i close the website
every time i go to close firefox, i use either the X or file exit.
then i go to the icon to launch the program (firefox) i get a pop up that tells me firefox is still running to maybe restart my computer.
the only way i can override this is by using "task manager" look for the icon and end the process.
then i can reopen the browserUse "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit) to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

I've been using Mozilla Firefox for a few years and love it. My home page is Google News, and Google is my chosen search engine. For the last three weeks, whenever I have Firefox/Google news open, then open another program, like Word, Quicken, maybe a downloaded game site, everything locks up - every single page including my Mozilla Firefox, my gmail account and whatever other page I have tried to open. I cannot minimize any screen, cannot X close any screen, this includes the original open Firefox Mozilla screens. The only way to be able to do anything on any screen is to use Task Manager to close the windows. My AVG protection runs scans every night. I have gone in and run my Malware protection program, another AVG scan, updated everything, flash players, run checks everywhere. Even ran a computer degrag, yet still the problem persists.
What now? I am frustrated having to completely shut down all programs running with task manager before I can proceed with any program.I found that logging into Google Docs would lock it up EVERY TIME. So I disabled every one of the Add-Ons one at a time, and found the offending Add-On: Shockwave Flash 11.3.300.268. Disable that one and see if it solves your problem, it did mine.
EDIT: Disabling this means you can't watch YouTube videos. The best fix is to do a search for Adobe's earlier versions of Flash. Uninstall Flash Player from your computer and reinstall an earlier version. I am successfully using 11.3.300.265. -
after using task manager to close the firefox.32*exe process, then FF will restart properly. Doesn't seem to happen if the laptop is powered off.
Must be the "hang at exit" problem. You already know how to do Step1; now just determine which Add-on (Extension or Plugin) is causing the problem.

Can't close indesign. have to use task manager repeatedly.
when closing out indesign CS5 it shows a few popups in the upper left corner really fast (it does it when i save now in illustrator as well) and then doesn't close. i have to open task manager where it is listed as "not responding" and close it every time. i have restarted and run defrag and disk cleanups and it doesn't help.
when i turn off the auto-activation feature it seems to be shutting off
properly. it was set to turn off fonts upon closing so i bet that is
what was causing issues. i turned it back on and indesign closed fine so
i'm not sure if the issue is fixed or not. turning it off seems to have
stopped the weird popups in indesign and in illustrator when i turn it
off in that as well. so it appears to be the suitcase fusion 3
auto-activation causing problems.
as for the forums, when logging back into adobe forums it tells me i
need to select a screen name even though i have one and won't let me
continue since mine is marked as being used. so i still can only reply
using email. i have attached screenshots anyway just in case it might be
something else.

Won't send.Spell check pops up.Have to use Task Manager to start over
1.I address an email to send. 2.Type in the subject. 3.Press enter to fill the message. I type a few letters, when 4.a pop-up appears for spell check. end of story. I cnnot do anything. Cannot delete, cannot send.
I have to go to task manager and close everything and start over.
EI have a customer experiencing exactly the same issue. Their computer is running Windows 7 Pro with Office 2007 SP3. After seemingly exhausting all troubleshooting options, I backed up their data, formatted the hard drive and performed a clean install of
Windows and all their applications. It didn't solve the problem!
What's strange is the customer also has a laptop computer, running the same version of Outlook, and that doesn't experience any problems connecting to Office 365 on the same network.
My next step is to send the customer a new ADSL modem/router to try.
I have another customer on Office 365, also running Outlook 2007, and they also experience issues with emails sitting in the outbox while Outlook displays the status message “Outlook is trying to retrieve data from the Microsoft exchange server outlook.office365.com.”
In this case Outlook doesn't freeze/stop responding, like it does for the first customer I mentioned. -
After browsing and I close Firefox it appears to close.
However when I go to reopen it later I get a message that Firefox is already open and I need to close it. The only wany I can close it is by using Task Manger to end process.Must be the "hang at exit" problem. Fire fox not responding, locks computer, have to use task manager to reset
Firefox continually stops responding when I click on a bookmark. I get the info at the top of my screen that Firefox is not responding. Now if I go to MS office and am working in Word with Firefox in the background, word freezes. I go to Task Manager, it says Firefox not responding. End task and office works. Even without office running, I still get the not responding problem. I use Windows 8.1 on a Dell desktop. This problem has been happening since Friday the 21st.
Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

What is the cause of Firefox seizing up and having to use task manager to close down
When I use Firefox within 2 pages it seizes. When you try to click on anything I hear a ding with no response, even when you try to shut it down. You have to shut it down with Task manager. I have uninstalled it and reloaded but the same thing happens. When I use Explorer I have no troubles. I need Firefox as a site that I use only works with Firefox. This problem has occurred after the recent upgrade
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

This started when I first set started using Yahoo Messenger. It appears to me that Yahoo messenger is keeping the application firefox.exe open in the background and this prevents the browser from opening. The only thing I can't understand is why the broser will open the first time with Yahoo Messenger running.
