Why do I have two versions of Photoshop?

My CC lists Photoshop CC and Photoshop CC (2014) and every time it updates, it updates them both with the same thing.
Why is there two and can I get rid of one and if so, which one and how do I get rid of it please?
thanks
David

Why do I have two versions of lightroom on my desktop and which one should I delete/uninstall?

Hi,
Lightroom 5.x and CC will be installed side by side. You may uninstall the prior version one you’re comfortable in the new version of Lightroom.

• After running CC update I have TWO versions of Photoshop CC. Which should I delete?

I had the CC version of Photoshop installed. A week or two ago I ran the CC updater and it listed something called "Adobe Photoshop CC 2014" in addition to "Adobe Photoshop CC." I selected "update all" and ended up with what appear to be two copies of Photoshop on my OS X Mac:
Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 - version 15.0.0
Adobe Photoshop CC - version 14.2.1
Questions:
It seems like the "CC 2014" copy is a new version and that I do not need the original "CC" installation, right?
Should I just run the uninstaller in the "CC" version folder, and will this leave the "CC 2014" intact?
Is there a reason this happened, and should I do anything to prevent a repeat?
Thanks,
Dan

This messages says (at least some) CC 2014 programs use NEW plugins https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1499663
-so do not uninstall the older CC programs if you use plugins in your programs until you are sure you have plugins that work in CC2014
If you are sure you don't need the old CC programs

• I have two versions of photoshop.

the older one is photoshop cs. when I try to open it, I get a memory error message and it says I must close it. the other one, cs5 works fine but I still would like to use the older one sometimes. I don't think I have the disc to re-install it. what can I do?

You must be on an old PowerPC MAC. New Intel Mac can run more then one version at a time. On A PC it you try to start a version of PS and there is a different version o Photoshop up and running you get thrown into the running version.

• Why do I have two versions of Adobe Acrobat XI Pro installed on my desktop?

I have a monthly subscription to Adobe Acrobat XI Pro - which I obtained via download. I am using a desktop running Windows XP (yes, I know, it's time to update).
When I click on my control panel icon and then the "add / remove programs" option (in an effort to look for old or unused programs to get rid of), I see that there are two line items for Adobe Acrobat XI Pro - each approximately 2,000.00 MB in size.
I would like to know whether one of these is an unnecessary duplicate and if so, whether I can delete it without that affecting the program. I'm hoping this will save a little space on my hard drive.
Thanks so much for any advice.

Thank you soo much! I was tempted to delete one thinking it was actually a 2nd version taking up lots of unnecessary space.
Cheers

• Why do I have two versions of Firefox in my Windows Control Panel? (again)

hello,
Updating from Firefox 18.0.1 to 18.0.2 of Firefox has not removed the Mozilla Firefox 18.0.1 entry from the Windows Control Panel list of installed programs.
How could I fix that?
thanks.

It is possible that you only see orphaned Firefox entries in add and remove programs.
This can happen if the Firefox updater didn't remove the entry of the previous version, but merely added an entry for the new version.
If you are comfortable with the registry editor then you can remove Firefox entries that no longer apply in this registry key.
*HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Mozilla Firefox (????)
If you have a 64 bit Windows version then inspect this key:
*HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Mozilla Firefox

• I now have two copies of Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Muse. One set is CC and the other is 2014 - Why?. Can I remove the CC version?

I have just updated a 2014 version of Muse. It is now Muse2014.1 Release. beneath that is: 2014.1.0.375. CL785695.
My query is it this: Is this the 13th August update that I have just installed? What harm would occur if I ununstalled the Muse CC version. I also have CC versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Muse. I assume it is necessary to have both (?) otherwise wouldn't Adobe have removed the obsolete versions when the updates were uploaded?

DON'T! I removed the older versions and all hell broke loose. Edit Original type commands stopped working and I had to go in and manually tell windows which program should open an already existing photoshop file, for example...bridge still doesn't seem to recognize PS2014 and I have to open photoshop files from photoshop...Kinda ridiculous if you ask me.

• Photoshop updated and now I have two versions ...

Hello,
I'm new to photoshop and creative cloud. I purchased photoshop cc a few weeks ago. It then updated and I now have two versions: photoshop cc and photoshop cc (2014). they both keep updating, I presume for good reason, but I'm not sure why I have two versions.
Do I need both? if not, which is the version I should have? and how to I get rid of the other?
Thanks in advance.

Good day!
Photoshop CC 2014 is the "newer" one, several features that are valuable to some users have been abandoned in this version (Flash Panels, Oilpaint Filter, …), though.
Photoshop: Spring Cleaning | PHOTOSHOP.COM BLOG
You can just keep both versions, but as a relative newcomer you might be better off going with Photoshop CC 2014.

• After updating to 2014 I have two version of each

After I updated my creative cloud apps, now I have two versions of each software on is CC and the other is CC 2014? Not sure why and how to remove old version. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hi Mataya,
If you don't want to keep the older version you can use following steps to uninstall.
On Mac, go into the Photoshop application folder and double-click the “Uninstall Adobe Photoshop CC” or “Uninstall Adobe Photoshop CS6” icon:
On Windows, see: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/uninstall-or-change-a-program
Thank you

• CC shows two versions of Photoshop: Photoshop CC and Photoshop CC (2014)

My CC subscription shows two versions of Photoshop. I tried to open both versions. Photoshop CC opened, Photoshop CC (2014) would not. I deleted it. Now CC shows one update available: Photoshop CC (2014). Anyone know what CC is doing?

John,
Thank you. Your guidance was spot on.
The following comment is for Adobe:
We have all seen the transition over time of the way software updates happen. I remember virus programs doing things like:
It has been two weeks since I checked for updated virus signatures. Shall I check now? Yes
There is a new virus signature available. Shall I download it? Yes
I have downloaded the new virus signature. Shall I install it? Yes
I have installed the new virus signature, but must restart the virus program to use it. Shall I do that? Yes
I have rebooted the virus program and all is fine. OK.
I was really enjoying how Adobe would update the versions of their products in the Creative Cloud, and waiting for the day I'd have to trigger the activity. What I'd like is for Adobe to just do it. The way Apple has sort of standardized app updating is that you can adjust a setting and it will install updates automatically. Many vendors have a "What's new" screen that opens the first time after upgrading so you can see what's new. In the case when your concurrence is needed before installation, the upgrade is downloaded in the background and some descriptive information is provided so you can decide if you want to do it (this is typically for IOS major upgrades).
Adobe didn't handle the Photoshop CC to Photoshop CC (2014) well. I was very happy to lose the designator of which version I have. The version I want is: Latest. The two versions appeared (Photoshop CC and Photoshop CC (2014)) without explanation. John's instructions (above) indicated that you need to uninstall Photoshop CC, shut down and then restart the Creative Cloud App, then download and install the new version. Why did I have to go through a forum entry when Adobe could have simply put a line under Photoshop CC (2014) that said "Important: read this" and then provided an explanation of what's going on and how to do it. (BTW, that is a mediocre solution. The right solution would be to tell you what's up and then give you the option to click on a button which would have triggered all the steps to replace one version with the other.)
So, bottom line, I have never been an Adobe fan. I moved to Lightroom because of the Photography special offer and I am hooked. Updating Lightroom to support iPads and iPhones was just super. My expectations soared. This update didn't meet them.
But, have a nice day anyway!

• I have two versions of Lightroom installed on my computer, can I uninstall the older version?

While looking at the "Programs and Features" folder on my Windows 7 computer I discovered that I have two versions of Adobe Lightroom installed on my system. One is Lightroom 5.2, installed on 9/19/2013, and the other is Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.5 64-bit, installed on 7/5/2014
- Can I uninstall the older version?
- Will uninstalling the older version cause any problems with the newer version?
- If yes to either question, is there anything I need to do before doing the uninstall (i.e. deactivating, etc.)
Any advice on how to correct this problem is gratefully appreciated.
PS; I have the same issue with Muse CC. See: I have two versions of Muse CC installed on my computer, can I uninstall the older version?

Jim,
I thought it was odd that I had two versions of Lightroom installed as well. I have been able to track the issue back to an apparent "bug" in the Lightroom 5.2 update that installed a second version of Lightroom in addition to updating the existing version on my computers. At the time, I posted about it at Lightroom 5 installed twice on my laptop. While I never got an answer to my question, which was "Is this normal?" I did hear from others in the forum the experienced the same problem and had the same question. As time passed, later releases updated one of the two installations, but did not effect the second. Hence, two different versions of Lightroom 5 installed on the same computer.
Uninstalling the older version solved the problem. Thanks

• Creative Cloud & Creative Suite 6 - Will I have two versions of InDesign, Illustra, etc?

I have Creative Suite 6 installed on my Windows 7 laptop. I joined Creative Cloud and started downloading. Apparently two versions of Illustrator and InDesign. Oh my - that's a lotta disc space.
I'm uncomfortable uninstalling my Creative Suite 6.
I'm worried if I download the Creative Cloud versions of PHOTOSHOP & DREAMWEAVER - I'll lose all my plugins and web site definitions. YIKES!
I searched all the FAQ, etc., found no answer. Maybe I missed something. I bet this is a really common question.
So is that the deal? We have two versions of Adobe software? What happens if I install Cloud versiosn of Dreamweaver and Photoshop?
Thanks for your help.
April

There aren't many differences between the Creative Cloud version of Photoshop and Dreamweaver at the moment. You are welcome to uninstall or you can even go to Help>Deactivate. Once you have deactivated when you open the software again you maybe given the option to License this Software. If so you can enter your Adobe ID tied to your subscription and the software will begin using the licensing for your Creative Cloud subscription.

• Why does CC install 2 versions of Photoshop CS6

Why Does CC install 2 versions of Photoshop, CS6, a 64-it version and another version, on my 64 bit windows8 machine? Why not install just one version?Do I need both?

32 bit is installed in case you need to use plugins which have not been updated for 64 bit Photoshop e.g. TWAIN for scanners.

I have two versions of Pr, one is the latest 2014 and when trying to open a Pr2014 session, I get an error message saying the project was saved in a newer version and cannot be opened. Could there be an issue with an older Pr application on the computer? Please help!

You need to be very careful which project you open in which version.
For 2014 make sure its on 2014.1 build 81.
