Why do I keep finding recovery files in my trash?

MSO8AAC925BF11 file is in my trash for no reason...anybody?

For some reason that I've never been able to determine (nor has anyone else in the occasional post I've seen on various forums) iWork doesn't seem to quite properly clean up the temporary files it creates when converting Microsoft Office Suite files in order to open them.
Therefore, if you have opened any MS Office files into Pages, Keynote or Numbers and then see a Recovered Files folder in the trash when you next start up, it's perfectly normal. If annoying.
Of course, I don't know if this applies to your situation; I can't tell by looking at the name if MSO8AAC925BF11 could have been generated by a Microsoft application...

  • Pages leaves Recovery Files in the trash every time I use it. Fix?

I have Pages '08 version 3.0.2. Every time I use it, it will leave a recovery file in the trash the next time I restart. Pages is not crashing when this happens. It happens with normal use of Pages.
What can I do to fix this? It's a paint constantly empty the trash can every time I restart.

It is a Pages problem. Let me explain why.
The article you linked to said:
+Usually temporary files *are deleted by an application* when it no longer needs them. If an application quits unexpectedly, the temporary files may not get deleted by the application.+
There's the problem. Pages is not deleting the temporary file even when I save my document successfully and close the app. This is not related to a crash. Pages should be deleting those files, but is not. So every time I restart, there's yet another Recovery File folder in the trash.
None of the other apps have this problem, including none of the other iWork apps. Pages and only pages does this (without a crash).
What I want to know is why it's not deleting the temporary files when it's supposed to. Is my copy of Pages bad or is there a problem with the .plist file? I dread opening any Pages file because I know it'll leave junk in my trash again.

  • Why can't I delete mp3 files from my Trash?  They are not locked.

Why can't I delete mp3 files from my Trash? They are not locked.  I compressed them into a zip file and then couldn't delete that file either.  I've restored them and tried deleting again but no luck.  Can anybody please help?  iOS 10.8.5

You can't empty the Trash or move a file to the Trash
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on solving Trash issues. You can also try using Trash It! 5.1 to fix the problem. Or you can try this:
Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder and paste the following at the prompt:
         sudo rm -Rf ~/.Trash/*
Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when prompted. It will not echo to the screen. Press RETURN again.

  • HT4413 Why can't I find the files and data I transferred from time machine on my new mac?

So I just got a new mac and I always backed up my old mac. I used the migration assistant to transferr all the stuff from my old mac to the new one. After it completed I tried  to find all my pictures, music, and documents but couldn't. Where did all my stuff go and why can't I find it? Migration Assistant said everything transferred and went ok.

Peruse Pondini's Setup New Mac guide and seriously consider starting over. I'm a firm believer in only using the Setup Assistant and not creating a new account on first boot.

  • Why do I have thousands of files in my trash?

I rarely delete files, so I'm always surprised to see that there are over a thousand or so files in my trash can  every time I empty it (every few weeks).  Is this some type of automated housekeeping that the system is doing?  What's going on here?

.ipa files (iPad/iPhone Apps) are trashed during sync if an updated version exists on your mobile device. The updated version is then placed in iTunes. It also appears that an .ipa file is not just a sinle file but contains hundreds, sometimes thousands of sub files/folders. The more complex the App, the more files they contain. Athough Get Ifo does not recognise anything more than one file, this may be why Trash is recognising those fies within the .ipa that was sent to Trash.
Could be wrong, but that is how it seems on my Mac.

  • EDITING HOSTS - Why I do not find the file on MacBookPro

I am not so expert with Unix.
I edited my Hosts file adding text from http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm and it works well on my iMac greatly reduceing the unwanted popups.
Now I try to do the same on my MacBookPro but it seems impossible to find the Hosts file and even Private and etc folders... any suggestion ??
Second question: which is the risk of a wrong editing ? I always keep a copy of the original Hosts file. If there is even the risk of boot made impossible it should always be possible to enter the HD from a second Mac via FW and change the Hosts file or am I wrong ?
    Thanks

I edited my Hosts file adding text from http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm and it works well on my iMac greatly reduceing the unwanted popups.
I've found the worst pop-up offender is Flash.
I would suggest trying "ClickToFlash" <http://clicktoflash.com/> on Safari.
    FlashBlock <http://flashblock.mozdev.org/> for Firefox.
Actually FlashBlock exists for several browsers (Google is your friend).
A Flash blocking add-on will still allow you to play Flash, you just have to click on the blank image with the Start Icon before the add-on will load the Flash content.
As an added bonus, keeping Flash from running by default has a tendency to extend your laptop battery time between charges.
After blocking Flash, the browsers built-in pop-up blockers should get most of the rest, and if there is a really offensive Ad, you can also use an Ad blocking add-on as mentioned by etresoft. I use one of those as well, but ever since I installed a Flash blocking add-on, I have not really needed to use the Ad blocking add-on. There are several Ad blocking add-ons for Safari as well as other browsers. Try searching MacUpdate.com as well as Google.
With respect to editing /etc/hosts. If you are careful, and as you said you did this before, they you can most likely do it again. However, I would point out that it is a pain to keep updating the /etc/hosts file as you find yet another offending Ad or pop-up. Plus maybe someday you find you need to visit that site (OK, maybe that is stretching it), but what if you do? The static nature of /etc/hosts means you would be blocked, and most likely never think it was because of /etc/hosts. This is also why I suggest using a Flash blocking add-on, and if you find you need it an Ad blocking add-on.
As far as dangers, you could loose localhost capabilities (actually very useful), or mess up DNS lookups. So it is a very good idea to keep the original around just in case. Another danger would be editing /etc/hosts with the wrong utility, and accidentally turning it into a Rich Text format file, or (yuck) a Microsoft Word document nano (anyone could use it), vim (steep learning curve), emacs (an operating system pretending to be an editor), TextWrangler (GUI), Fraise (GUI) are all safe text editors.

  • Why mozilla thunderbird keeps finding faults with my mailing lists

Why suddenly Thunderbird decided to find all kinds of problems with all of my Mailing Lists ? They were ALL working fine; and I have not gone in to change any of these Mailing Lists. How can I make it work properly - like before ???

Script errors are sometimes caused by anti-virus programs keeping the system "busy" by scanning mail folders. Do you have a product such as McAfee operating on the mail folders?

  • Why does it keep searching for files

When I record in another studio save files to HD get to another stuidio pull up song it keeps asking to search for files.

Well that's how the file structure works. If you record to a folder located e.g. in ~/Music/Logic8/Soundtracks/title/cue1/Audio files/ and move the stuff to another computer those files must be located in exactly the same directory on the new computer in order to show up in your project. If you look into the bin you see that each file has a description where it's location is. If it's not located there Logic can't find it and asks you to locate it.

  • Why can't I find these files in Time Machine?

I've been trying for quite some time to copy my old time machine backups to a new drive.
Yet my folders seem to get scattered after copying.
Attached are screenshots of the error messages I get while copying my time machine backups. I have a strong suspision that my problem mainly has to do with the files that can't be copied "ds. Store" and "team fortress"
I don't care for these files, and I'd gladly delete them from my time machine backups. Yet I can't find them in my time machine backups.
    How do I fond them?
And has anyone else had this same issue as me?

    Here are the photos.
I wasn't able to upload them using my phone.

  • Why my mac air is showing recovery files folder in trash every time

    Hi
my mac air is showing recoveryfiles folder in trash every time i restart/start my computer and another problem is all the browsers are showing me mac keeper advertisement prominently.. how to get rid of thiese problems? pl. help.

The recovered files are due to an application that fails to clean up its temporary files before exiting. Microsoft products are notorious for this.
Quit Safari. Relaunch it by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. That will stop the ad page from reloading automatically. Select Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove all website data to get rid of any cookies or other data left by the server.

  • Why is PowerPoint so slow, and why does it keep creating "temp" files ?

This is a recent problem which does not seem to be manifesting in other software (not Word, not Excel for example): my ppt is SLOW SLOW SLOW ! I am working in a very very simple presentation -- text only, black & white, no graphics, less than 15 pages -- and it takes at least 30 seconds to save, ages to open, ages to quit. I'm tired of watching that beach ball rotate !
Just noticed that for some reason it is also creating "temp" files -- "Powerpoint Temp, Powerpoint Temp 1", etc etc.
I run Software update automatically each week so should be up to date on all MS and Apple software. My 80G hard disk has 14G of free space, and I just ran "Terminal" earlier this week.

  • Why can't I find downlaoded files?

When I try to download a data file, Firefox doesn't ask me where to store the file as I have asked it to do in my option settings, and after it tells me the file was successfully downloaded it is nowhere to be found on my computer. I am using v. 3.6 on a 64 bit HP laptop using Vista. This problem may have resulted after a recent round of Microsoft updates, but I am not really sure I have ever successfully downloaded a file on this machine.

If you right-click an item in the Download Manager (Tools > Downloads), is "Open Containing Folder" enabled?
Tools > Options > Privacy > History: "Remember download history"
If that menu entry is grayed then that means that the file is not in the original download location.<br />
It may have been removed by anti-virus or cleanup software.

  • What are the recovery files in the trash

I like to keep the trach taken out and notice every now and then their has been something put in it that I did not move there.  It is a file called Recovery and has some sub folders in the main one and one of the documents seems to be witten in code.  Is this normal?  I delete the file when it appears and go about my business but it will eventuly show up again. Do I need to change something?

I can't say for sure. It's conceivable that an application might crash with unsaved work in a document, and you might be able to salvage that document, at least in part, from the recovered temporary file. That's why it's there. I've never known that to happen, but I don't use Office.
