Why do I keep getting a pop-up window that says install Java when I try to open a pdf file?

(You can take screenshots of the windows in your computer using Alt+PrintScreen... No need to use a camera)
This is quite odd. Where did you get the Reader installer from? I would suggest uninstalling it and then downloading the installer from Adobe (here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/ ) and re-installing it.

  • I keep getting a pop-up window that says I must upgrade to Firefox 15.0.1, but I already have done that from the Mozilla website.

I got a pop-up window from Firefox saying that I needed to upgrade (I had Firefox 14.0.1). I have a Mac desktop with operating system Lion. When I'd try to connect through the prompt on that window, it wouldn't connect. So I went to the Mozilla website and downloaded version 15.0.1.dmg. But I'm still getting the pop-up window.
Also, when I start my computer, there's always a question mark in the Firefox place on the dock and a window that prompts me to drag the firefox emblem over to another emblem. But when I do that, I get a window that says that this is an older version of Firefox than the one that's installed, do I want to replace it with the older one (which I have declined to do).

Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.
Open the Firefox disk image (DMG) file and drag the Firefox program to the application folder on your hard drive.
You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the disk image, but drag it out of the DMG folder instead.
If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
    *http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
*Trash the current Firefox application (e.g. open the Applications folder in the Finder and drag the Firefox application to the Trash) to do a clean (re-)install
*Install the new version that you have downloaded
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Installing+Firefox+on+Mac
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.

  • Since I installed adobeX when I try to open a pdf file I get an error message

  • After the latest update for firefox, now when I start firefox up I keep getting a pop up window that is a Java Script Application that says TypeError:Components.classes['@softage.ru/skype/skypeFfExtension;1']is undefined.

After closing this Firefox seems to work fine but this happens everytime on startup. How can I get rid of this pop up window starting everytime? Can I re-install firefox? Would I lose my bookmarks etc?

Once I disabled my Ask.com toolbar (that was installed when I installed FoxIt), the error went away.

  • My acrobat program keeps saying Access denide when I try to open my pdf files

see title.  I recently had to back up, and restore my computer, now it is saying I do not have access to my pdf files.  says I do not have permission to access .  how do I fix this?

Thanks Bill !! for providing the simple answer - this has saved me much work.  I always assumed that Acrobat would either a) sort the inserted files alphanumerically or b) use the sort order of the OS's file selector.  The c) answer of inserting the files in the reverse order of the OS file selector (since Acrobat will reverse that order) eluded me until now.
It's clearly a bug in the program, I'm using Acrobat X Pro, but had the exact same problem with Acrobat 7 - never occurred to me to sort the file listing in reverse alphanumeric order in order to have Acrobat insert them in correct alphanumeric order.
    Thank!

Does this happen with every PDF file or a specific one ? Maybe the file is really damaged.

I was still typing my first post while you had already responded.
Maybe I am taking your last post the wrong way but reread your post. If I am taking it the wrong way - please accept my apology in advance.

Where do you state that you need to email the files to someone else?
Where do you state that you need to edit them?
    This was my response ....
You can't edit any of these files without a compatible iPad app like Documents to Go (Excel, Word) or Pages (Word files).
You can open and view the files as mail attachments but you will not be able to edit them. Explain exactly what you are doing and maybe you can get meaningful instructions.
Basically I said the same thing as Julian and I thought that maybe if you explained EXACTLY what you were trying to do, it would be helpful.
Sorry for not being a mind reader. Your second post ...
I thought I had already explained, I get excel spreadsheets emailed to me I need to open them, read them, edit them and send them on to another person,
That is not what you asked the first time around.

  • I keep getiing the pop up window that says its not a safe site...for EVERYTHING..including your site!!

EVERY time I click on a link or try to navigate to a new window I get the window that says the connection is untrusted.
Firefox cannot be sure the connection is secure. I have to click on two separate buttons (which open page extensions) to finally get to where I am going. I also have to assign the new window a certificate???? This just started Firefox. How does this get fixed? Otherwise I will go back to Explorer.

Some security software intercept secure connections and send their own certificate.
Some examples are ESET and Bitdefender.
*ESET setup -> advanced setup -> extend web and email tree -> SSL
*SSL protocol: Do not scan SSL protocol
*BitDefender -> Privacy settings -> disable Scan SSL
    Check the connection settings.

I recently did some HD clean up and I'm plagued by this window. I can get it to go away briefly if I restart the computer but it always comes back.
    Weird!

    Hi wcb82,
If you keep getting these messages, you may need to delete the subscription to that calendar. You may find the following article useful:

  • Like someone else, I keep getting a pop-up message that says "api.del.icio.us:443 USPS uses an invalid security certificate"; However the pop up is so persistent I cannot use Firefox at all, I am posting this from Safari.

I have tried clicking on "cancel" or "details" and nothing will dismiss the message.

I'm having this problem too. Tried the above link and thinking that sounded pretty straight forward, unfortunately this message was displayed:
