Why do I keep getting a "Safari can't find the server" message? Why does the connection keep dropping out?
When I open Safari and browse, I often get this message: "Safari can't find the server". I will then wait for at least 5 minutes, try the site again, and it will open, but then it just keeps happening on just about all websites now. These are very stable sites. I have had two technicians from my ISP try and fix the problem but with no success. I went to the Apple store, they told me to reset Safari - which I did - but that didn't work either. I am at my wit's end with this.Can someone please help?
Check to see if the firewall is turned on.
Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall
If the firewall was turned off, try this DNS server.
Open System Preferences > Network > Advanced > DNS
Click + and type:
208.67.222.222
Click + again and do the same.
208.67.220.220
Click OK.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

If so, I can replicate the effect on my XP SP3 box (running Safari 5.0).
A bit odd, because it just looks to be a QuickTime plugin when I click on it in IE.
The W3C Markup validation service doesn't like the code on that page much:

Safari can't find proxy server
After upgrading to Lion, Safari can't find the proxy server thus rendering Safari incapable of visiting any websites. Any help our there?
Hi All - I just bought an iTouch and am having problems connecting to safari from home. I can actually connect to my security enabled wifi, but after that it won't connect to the server. I do not have problems connecting to webpages outside of my home. From searching on the Internet and various posts, it appears I need to switch my network setting from WEP to WPA... however I need help in doing this. Can someone please advise on how this change is made? Thanks!

Safari can't find secure server?
Am on a cruise in Italy, son wishes to check his e-mail on my IPAD. Safari won't allow access to AOL mail "b/c Safari can't find a secure server".
Any ideas?if you don't have that feature you can't find that feature you will probably may need to try different parts of the boat

I'm getting this error a lot.
Most of mine are to .gov sites that change their DNS resolution fairly frequently

Further research has shown that the problem is that Safari has changed how it looks up DNS services between revision 5.0.3 and the one in Leopard as the problem never happened in Leopard.
Clearing the cache does not help, clearing and resetting cookies does not help. Constant reloading of the page will eventually fix it, whenever Safari finally goes to the proper DNS.
There is clearly a change in how Safari is looking things up on the DNS but no clue hot to change the behavior to get it back to the Leopard version that worked.If you use a router, does it have the latest firmware installed? Safari 5 introduced 'DNS Prefetching' (Safari looks up the addresses of links on webpages and can load those pages faster) which could strain some routers or modems producing a 'latency' in page loading. This was fixed in Safari 5.0.2, but you may see a benefit from getting a faster router or modem. You can read more about that here:

Safari can't find the facebook server
I apologise if this topic has already been dealt with but I cannot find an answer on this discussion board or the rest of the web.
All I get is "safari can't find the facebook server"
Every other website under the sun works on Safari except facebook. I've reset the cache and done everything else that has been suggested but nothing works. Why just facebook? Any help would be appreciated. CheersSimilar problem, but the delay seems to be cause by any attempt to reach Facebook, even Facebook pages on another web page you are visiting, creates a pop-up redirect to WSearch.net, and then multiple pop-up windows for LivingSocial.com, asking you to choose your locale from a drop down list. This LivingSocial seems to be similar to Groupon.com, offering local deals.
The same result occurs in Firefox in regards to Facebook, with the redirect to WSearch.net. If you have your settings blocking pop-ups, in either Safari or Firefox, the pop-ups do not occur, but it just seems like the page isn't loading because the redirect doesn't happen.
There are many listings in Google Search related to this problem going back to 2008, but no one seems to have a solution. There are occasional references to a Trojan virus that does this, as well as some routers that create the redirect, in hotel wi-fi situations. I'm experiencing this problem while visiting my father at a hospital, using the hospital wi-fi, and did see it happen once at the hotel I'm staying at. -
Discoveryd process uses 100% CPU - Safari Can't find the server
Hello
Since upgrading to Yosemite, I lose connection to the internet 2 or 3 times a day. (Outlook goes offline at the same time)
This is with a wired connection. (Wi-Fi is turned off)
Safari gives me the "Safari Can't Find the Server" message.
Restarting the computer solves the issue temporarily.
While I'm unable to connect to the internet, Activity Monitor shows a process named "discoveryd" that uses 100% CPU.
Force quitting this process gives me back access to the internet instantly. Unfortunately, I suffered a kernel panic (auto restart) a few minutes after force quitting discoveryd. I'm not 100% sure those 2 are related but it would be an odd coincidence as I never experienced had a single kernel on that system. Haven't tried force quitting that process since.
I'm using this iMac in a work environment. (Connected to a windows file server and exchange)
This issue has been happening 2-3 times a day since the day I upgraded to Yosemite.
Any pointers on what could fix this issue ?

Why do I keep getting the message, "Safari can't open the page "www.blahblah.com" because Safari can't find the server" and you can replace the website with almost any I try to open. Any ideas or solutions?
Do you have other wireless devices connected to this same router? Do they work?
I really can't help you much but to say that when my router exhibited this issue it was accross the board (all notebooks would connect immediately following a router restart, but would loss connectivity until I rebooted the router again). In my case the only solution that was permanent was to replace the router.
You may also try restarting the phone and the router, setup security - WEP - (or disable security) on the router and phone, and/or try a different wi-fi channel (may actually help). -
When I am using Firefox I keep getting unrequested Windows opening with full page advertisements. Why is this happening and how can I stop it? This is particularly aggravating when the new page has music or a voice message that intrudes even when I am not looking at the page.
Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.<br /><br />

When I attempt to email a link in Safari using "File" then "Mail Link to this Page", I can't. I get a message saying "...Safari can't find an email application." even though I am using mail. Why?
I got it - no need to respond. I went to Mail Prefs, General, Defalt Email Reader, and rechose Mail. Problem solved!

The "The connection was reset" error message can be caused by a bug fix for the BEAST (Browser Exploit Against SSL/TLS) attack that the server doesn't handle.

i downloaded songs to my phone at xmas and when i plugged in to my laptop it wiped the phone of new purchases when i try and download them to my computer in itunes via previous purchesses it wont load the list and i keep getting error 10053 can any1 help
Syncing shouldn't trouch you photos unless you have photos in a Photo Library album. These would be photos that were synced to your phone from your computer. If you do have any, you'll need to use an app like PhotoSync to transfer them to your computer prior to syncing.
If you prefer to backup your camera roll photos prior to syncing, open iTunes and go to Preferences>Devices and check "Prevent...from syncing automatically". Then connect your phone to your computer and import them as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
Then, to minimize data loss, follow the steps in this user tip: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141. To follow the steps, first open iTunes and go to View>Show Sidebar. Also, Transfer Purchases is now located in File>Devices. -

You're ignoring context. On the old Apple Discussion Groups I never posted replies like that, instead giving people relatively detailed answers. The new Apple Support Communities made things worse by introducing certain inefficiencies. Then came Lion. The flood of messages that came with Lion required a painful choice for any of the people who had been helping here: (1) Give quality responses to a few questions and ignore the rest. (2) When applicable, give a brief answer such as the one that you found objectionable. (3) Give up all the other normal activities of life and spend full time trying to answer questions here.
People who needed help with Lion problems seemed to have trouble discovering existing message threads that described how to solve their problems. I never posted the suggestion of "Check the 'More like this' area" without verifying that the help that the poster needed could be found there. Even doing that, what I posted saved me time that I could use to help someone else.
The people helping here are all volunteers. None of them is being paid for the time they spend here. They all have a life outside of Apple Support Communities. It's arrogant of you to demand that people helping here spend more time than they already do.
