Why do I keep getting "there was a problem connecting to the server ..." when I am not trying to connect to any server?
I just got a new MacBook Pro. After copying some files from my old MacBook, I restarted the new one. Now, I constantly get this message.
Any ideas?
Another user has suggested following the instructions here:
http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/A4.html
But I don't have access to my TM backup at the moment so I'm not able to try it.
Hope that helps.
Jonathan.

Why do I keep getting "There was a problem connecting to the server"?
I get the following message dialog intermittenly:
There was a problem connecting to the server.
URLs with the type "file:" are not supported.
but there's no context so I don't know how to solve it.
Any suggestions?
Sincerely,

My Mac suddenly started getting a pop up message saying "There was a problem conecting to the server. URLs with the type "file" are not supported." My internet is working fine,no problem connecting. I just keep getting this message which I click off and continue working.
Open the Time Machine pane in System Preferences. If it shows that Time Machine is ON, click the padlock icon in the lower left corner, if necessary, to unlock it. Scroll to the bottom of the list of backup drives and click Add or Remove Backup Disk. Remove all the disks, then add them back. Quit System Preferences. Test.

Windows 7 Pro SP1 and Adobe Acrobat Pro X
Hi Brain ,
Is it happening with all the Attachments or some specific one'?
Which email client are you using ?
You can try changing the default PDF viewer to Reader and check .
Are you trying to preview the attachment or double clicking on it to view?

I get "There was a problem connecting to the server" every time I reboot
This has been going on for over a year I think, and it's driving me nuts. Every time I reboot my Mac Pro I get this message:
"MacBook Pro 2.6" is the name of my MacBook Pro, and as long as it's turned on and accessible via the network I won't get that message on the Mac Pro at boot. I have no idea why my Mac Pro is looking for my MacBook at launch. I've checked all of my User/Account Startup Items stuff, and there's nothing unusual there.
Anyone have any ideas on how I can track down what is wanting to connect to my other machine ever time I reboot my Mac Pro?
Thanks,

Error message "there was a problem communicating with the server"
for about a week or so now, when I connect to my bank website everything is verrrry slow and when I finally get through the log in steps the error message shows on the site. Sometimes I can complete the task at hand, although it takes forever. Other times the screen just stays with the spinning wheel and I end up closing the browser. I've cleared the history and cache. I've made sure to have only one firewall/ virus protection activeated. I've reset Firefox. The pages populate faster now, but still slower than before. Not sure what's going on.
You might try to disable some or all of your extensions/add-ons or plugins such as content blockers etc., restart FF, then selectively re-activate one by one.
This has helped me a few times finding out what makes FF slow. -
I noticed this week an exclamation mark on the time machine icon on the menu bar.
My Macbook, iPad and iPhone all connect to the network but i get "there was a problem connecting to the server..."
When I open the preferences the time capsule is off but turnign it back on sends me in a loop of selecting the Time Capsule device (which has a nice green light etc) and then getting the error messgae about being unable to connect. I've pulled the plug a couple of times (this has worked in the past) but no change.
Any advice would be welcome before I try a factory reset or have to return to Apple for repair (the one thing they are offering as the thing is only 5 months old)I also noticed that when I go to finder I see two MacBook Air's that are in my name but have the number (2) and (3) next to the name.
That is a well known bug in Yosemite.
Try open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
Open Sharing
Edit back to the correct name for your Mac
This may...or may not help. But, it won't hurt.
The Mac's name may stay stable....or you may see (2), (3), etc again soon.
Be sure to restart both your Mac and the Time Capsule after you do this. -
New 4s "could not activiate" "There was a problem connecting to the server" What should I do.
Just received the new iPhone 4S. Going through setup but cannot get activated. One paragraph of error message says"Activatio still pending". The next one says There was a problem conecting to the server. Please try again later."
So what should I do? Wait and it will automatically activate (=pending?) or try again to set up.You wait. THere isn't really anything you can do to speed up the process. Once it activates, they will notify you. It could take 2 hours ---- it could take 24 hours....we go through this every year when the new model comes out and the Apple and ATT servers can't handle the number of activations....
Pack patience and wait. -
I keep getting an error messahe that says
There was a problem connecting to the server. URLs with type "file" are not supported
Any ideas?Actually, in my case, turning off Time Machine didn't work. I had the same problem. We definitely traced it to Time Machine. The "Fix" was this: plugged in and designated different external HD as Backup volume. Then unplugged it and plugged in the original disc (after testing in in a different machine) and now the computer recognized it and error message stopped popping up. The Apple tech was as puzzled as I as to why this worked, but perhaps, forcing the machine to re-recognize it (or maybe even, gettting it recognized by a different machine first) somehow worked some magic.

Message - There was a problem connecting to the server “sdbc.corp” it just started showing up and I can't get rid of it! MAC OS x v.10.9.2 - Help!
not sure why it would keep trying to connect.
First I'd look in Finder on the "Go" menu up top as "Connect to Server" and see if Rick-Pc was listed in there and remove it from the list. -
I am trying to update Adobe Extension Manager CS5 and I keep getting "There was an error downloading this update. Please quite and try again later." I have tried again and this keeps coming up?
Please do a forum search. I and others have repeatedly answered this question a whole bunch of times recently.
Bottom line: the Adobe auto updater is utterly useless in CS5 and prior versions. You need to download the updates and apply them manually yourself.
I and others have even supplied the links for Mac and Win, which you haven't even bothered to specify. -
since installing Lion I keep getting the error message 'there was a problem connecting to the server. URLs with the type 'file:" are not supported"' How can I fix this?

Not a nice answer!
Posting "Check the 'More like this'" area and not simply providing the answer is a great way to make these groups worthless.
You're ignoring context. On the old Apple Discussion Groups I never posted replies like that, instead giving people relatively detailed answers. The new Apple Support Communities made things worse by introducing certain inefficiencies. Then came Lion. The flood of messages that came with Lion required a painful choice for any of the people who had been helping here: (1) Give quality responses to a few questions and ignore the rest. (2) When applicable, give a brief answer such as the one that you found objectionable. (3) Give up all the other normal activities of life and spend full time trying to answer questions here.
People who needed help with Lion problems seemed to have trouble discovering existing message threads that described how to solve their problems. I never posted the suggestion of "Check the 'More like this' area" without verifying that the help that the poster needed could be found there. Even doing that, what I posted saved me time that I could use to help someone else.
The people helping here are all volunteers. None of them is being paid for the time they spend here. They all have a life outside of Apple Support Communities. It's arrogant of you to demand that people helping here spend more time than they already do. -

Test.

Keep getting "There was an error downloading this product" when I try to download updates to Adobe Photoshop CS5? Uninstalled and re-installed program but still won't download updates? I have a Mac Book OS X Version 10.9.5.
If you're trying to update through the Help menu > Updates, you should know that the Adobe auto updater in CS5 and earlier versions is an unmitigated, monumental piece of cr@p. It Is totally unreliably and fails in one or another of a great variety of ways.
Adobe began to get their act together as of CS6, with which I'm staying for exactly the same reason you are staying with CS5.
One has to update manually, by looking for, downloading and applying any and all applicable updates, including the Adobe Camera Raw plug-in which comes separately.
If the latter is what you've been doing, you need to let us know where you are trying to download the update from, what browser you are using to attempt to effect the download, and what platform you are in.
You also need to disable any and all virus protection, and make sure you are not behind any active software or hardware Fire Wall.
This is the URL for Photoshop Macintosh updates:
Adobe - Photoshop : For Macintosh
and for Windows:
Adobe - Photoshop : For Windows
Next time, please be substantially more informative, rather than plaintive or narrative (see next post). You are not addressing Adobe here.
Thank you. -
Every time I print to a pdf I get an error message that there was a problem connecting to a server. I am running a mac with windows parallels and the error happens in parallels. It seems that somehow the PDF software has captioned a deleted IP address and keeps pointing to this and as this IP address does not exist it produces the error. Can someone help me as I need to find where PDF stores this information and delete it..as it is driving me crazy as the error is continuous. Thank you
Look in the System Preferences -> Accounts. Click on the Login Items tab. I bet there is an entry for your drive. Use the "-" to delete it.
