Why do i lose aif. files in garageband

I finished a recording, saved it, and came back a few hours later and received two messages saying my VPA3#06.aif files were not found.  Anyone know how to find them.  What causes this and how to prevent it from happening.  This has happened in the past as well.

Hi Comstock2544,
I had the same problem during the last year.
According to some experts, .XMP are metadata files, something called "sidecar" files: they contains information about some of your pictures (e.g.: date of capture), and must be inthe same path of them to work properly (although probably useless on our pc).
And... they aren't actually of Adobe: they are standardized widely.
In our case, they are created by iOS when you crop and modify some pics with th iPhone tool. They serve to store information about your editing, without lose information from the original pictures.
In facts, if you crop one of your pics and save it, when you come back to re-crop it, you can see that the rest of the image cropped is still there.
A friend friend was able to delete them (I had 3) just deleting them, but I'm still unable to do that with the new ones. Anyway, you can just ignore tham and it'll be fine.
P.S.: You can open them with the notepad to see what info they store.

  • Why do I lose some file options in the top menu bar?

When I sign into adobe acrobat cloud - it will provide me with options for files, send, fill & sign, but also combine files, etc.
A few times it has reset and all of a sudden I lose the options at the top to create pdfs, combine files - and will only allow me to see the options for files, send, fill & sign (when what I really need to do is combine a file or create a pdf). Am I doing something to lose or hide the menu options? How do I get them back? Thanks!

Best option is to refresh the browser and the missing tools should show up.

  • I have music i have put on itunes from cd's i own but when i try to play them or update my ipod it says item cannot be found why did itunes lose the file

i have music i have put on itunes from cd's i won but when i try to play it or update my ipod it says cannot find file and have to locate it why is this

Because the file are no longer where they were when they were imported into your computer and added to your iTunes Library.
Did you move, rename or delete the files after adding them to your iTunes Library?
Do you use any other programmes, which may have moved, renamed or deleted the files, for example, Windows Media Player?
Were the files added to your computer's hard drive, or to an external drive which is no longer connected, or has a different drive letter now?

  • How to get garageband projects working again from .aif files?

My harddrive crashed a few weeks back but i was able to recover the data in it. However, the garageband projects (which is .band files) are now gone and you can only see hundreds of fragments of .aif files which are little parts of the original projects i made. How do i convert all of this .aif files to be a working garageband project again? i really need help here, please

the best you can do is to create a new project, and drop the AIFF files into its timeline. from there you can arrange, edit, and mix them to try to recreate your original project.

  • How to recover .aif files

Not even sure how I did it but working on GB 10.0.2 and I get this message "Audio file xxxx.aif not found." How in the world did I lose it and more importantly, how do I recover it?

It was a .aif file.I already looked at the audio filesin show package contents and it is not there.
If it the audio in track that is missing, then it must have been deleleted before the project has been saved. Possibilities are a crash, or you created a track by duplicating another track. That will link the duplicate tracks and what you change in one track will happen in the second track as well.
It worked great but all of a sudden it disappeared along with the original one I copied. I gave up and retracked.
Where are you storing your projects? Are you syncing the projects using a kind of cloud storage? Dropbox or similar? That is risky; if you open a project before the sync has finished, package contents maybe lost.
If you backup with Time Machine, enter Time Machine, while you are viewing the package contents.  If you are lucky, the hourly backup happened, while the audio file was still there.
I've been using GB to record music for years now but this is the first time I've used. 10.0.2 and I have to say I dislike it.
Continue to set up your projects in GarageBand '11 - the installer for GarageBand 10.0 does not remove it. It should be in a subfolder of "Applications" and works well with MacOS X 10.9.x.   You can then use GB10.0 to add finishing touches, like drummers and other amps.
I can't even figure out how to remix the effects on individual tracks.
That part has changed dramatically. You are no longer supposed to remix the effects on the tracks, but to pick a predefined patch that has the effects you want.  You can only add audio unit effects, using the Smart Controls. A "must have" for GarageBand 10 is HangTime's terrific GBEffectFinder - download here:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/File%20Pages/GBEffectFinder.html
This neat utility will tell you, which effects are available for which kind of instrument track.
I'd be lost without this tool.

  • IMovie Sounds not playing .aif files

I have been working on a film with iMovie and the sounds are working.  But now when i add new .aif file sounds, they aren't playing.  UGH!!! why?!?!?! HELP!

    Trouble-shooting guide
When iMovie doesn't work as intended this can be due to a lot of reasons
    • iMovie Pref files got corrupted - trash it/they and iMovie makes new and error free one's
    • Creating a new User-Account and log into this - forces iMovie to create all pref. files new and error free
    • Event or Project got corrupted - try to make a copy and repair
    • a Codec is used that doesn't work
    • problem in iMovie Cache folder - trash Cache.mov and Cache.plist
    • version miss match of QuickTime Player / iMovie / iDVD
    • preferences are wrong - Repair Preferences
    • other hard disk problem - Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - but start Mac from ext HD or DVD)
    • External hard disks - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work with Video
( UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most other things - but not for Video )
    • USB-flash-memories do not work
    • Net-work connected hard disks - do not work
    • iPhoto Library got problems - let iPhoto select another one or repair it. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
    This You do by
    - close iPhoto
    - on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
    - now select all five options presented
    - WAIT a long long time
    • free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk to low (<1Gb) - I never go under 25Gb free space for SD-Video (4-5 times more for HD)
    • external devices interferes - turn off Mac - disconnect all of them and - Start up again and re-try
    • GarageBand fix - start GB - play a few notes - Close it again and now try iMovie
    • Screen must be set to million-colors
    • Third-party plug-ins doesn't work OK
    • Run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac
    • Let Your Mac be turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help
    • Turn off Your Mac - and disconnect Mains - for about 20-30 minutes - at least this resets the FireWire port.
    • In QuickTime - DivX, 3ivx codec, Flip4Mac, Perian etc - might be problematic - temporarily move them out and re-try
(I deleted the file "3ivxVideoCodec.component" located in Mac HD/Library/Quicktime and this resolved my issue.)
    buenrodri wrote
I solved the problem by removing the file: 3ivxVideoCodec.component. after that, up-dated iMovie runs ok.
Last resort: Trash all of iMovie and re-install it

  • When I downloaded Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta 10 I lost all my Bookmarks. I went back to using the older version and get the message that it is no longer supported or covered by virus protection. Why did I lose my Bookmarks?

Why did I lose my Bookmarks?

    Clarification:
I believe now you potentially lose all extensions, plug-ins when you use the new reset function, but you will let me know.
If that is the case, your find corrupt file method maybe better. However, I reviewed the two help articles and there appear to be more files than just the delete search.json file and a possible search.sqlite file in the Firefox Profile Folder. I am confused. Then I have to find the folders. I think help articles mentioned how to find the profile containing the files, but not sure.

  • Silence added to the end of 1 of 2 songs that were "split" and exported as .aif files.

    Hey folks,
I have 2 songs that run seamlessly (ideally) together. When splitting them apart in garageband and exporting them seperately as .aif files, I find that the first song ends up with about 4 seconds of silence at the end, while the other does not. This obviously affects their ability to run smoothly together in playback. I've tried doing this a couple different times but have only had luck when sending the songs directly to iTunes as a compressed file. Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • Why do I lose type effects

Why do I lose type effects on my printed page such as emboss, bevel and drop shaodow (in Photoshop CS6) when I save my file as a jpeg or pdf?

Most likely you simply have your printing/ PDF options set to not rasterize non-vector data and since al lthese effects are pixel-based, you simply lose them. Just enable that option and everything should be fine.

  • Why do I lose the quality of my fonts in dreamweaver after slicing in photoshop ?

why do I lose the quality of my fonts in dreamweaver after slicing in photoshop and saving it for web with the highest quality ?  Itried everything from different font to highest resolution.

Resolution means nothing on the web.  Most browsers render images at 72 dpi (slightly higher on some mobile devices).
What matters on the web is the number of pixels contained in the image (i.e. 500px wide x 325px high) and the file type used to save it (PNG, JPG or GIF).

  • Aif files coming up as 'not found'

i'm constantly having problems with individual tracks going missing after i've saved the projects i'm working on. when i re-open them they are no where to be found and i often have to go back and re-record parts again or dig up older versions. weirdly enough when i get the 'aif file not found' message on one version, it also seems to affect older versions that have been filed away. does anyone have any idea why this is? has any one had similar problems? and more importantly does anyone know how to recover missing aif files or have a solution to stop them disappearing?
    thanks

thanks! i have started archiving now and it's going a lot better, but it created no end of headaches for me previously, because i used to think i'd been updating and saving new versions, only to find that if i'd got rid of the old ones then when i came back to the new ones none of the files were there! why don't they tell you this in the section on recording? it would have saved me heaps of grief!
    thanks

  • HT1222 i want to cancel the updating of the new software ,becouse i  don't wan't to lose my files

i want to cancel the updating of the new softwar  becouse i don't want to lose my files and i don't have the option to not do that

No, you don't. Once you start it, you can't stop it.
Why do you think you will lose your files?  If you've been backing it up and syncing as intended, you should not lose anything.

  • .aif file not found

I'm on GB09. I've recorded loads of tracks. And I've always simply saved them. But all of a sudden when I try to open my last two recordings it says, " Audio file "Male Basic#01.aif" not found". If I "save as" and then click "archive project" it will we save the .aif file and I'll be able to open it again. But then when I "save" it loses it again the next time I re-open. Must I keep continually select "archive project" every time I save? I didn't use to have to do that. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

It's a serious bug that several people have reported, and nobody has found a fix so far. Good that you found a way to avoid it.

  • Can you open Garageband '09 files in Garageband '11?

I've been wondering whether you can open a song made in Garageband '09 in Garageband '11? I want to know before possibly buying iLife 11, since the last time I had a Garageband update I could not open any songs made in previous versions (which frustrated me quite badly).

    Hi here,
I use MacBook Pro OS X version 10.6.7 mid 2009. I upgraded my computer to iLife '11, and I don't have any problems opening projects which were created in GB '09. The problems begun when I save and close GB, and then reopen it again. Depending on the project up to two (2) audio files go missing. My advice to you is, that you absolutely need backup for your files, you need to set up your time machine, so if something happens to your project you'll be able to restore it. I can't tell for sure if you'll have the same issue as I do. In my case it all depends how I choose to save the project created in older version of GB after I open it in GB '11. I refer you to my entry regarding lost aif files. It's quite extensive, but I hope that you'll find something useful there. One thing is for certain, GB '11 offers great new features, new effects, new amps, and you'll enjoy it.
    Cheers!
