Why do I need to be connected to itunes to authorize and play videos I already downloaded?

I downloaded some episodes of Sherlock but I have to be connected to the internet to authorize my account to play it every time. Isn't the point of downloading it so you don't have to be connected to the internet?

Maybe it has not completed download. Try connecting to the internet first to confirm. Follow these steps:
1. Open iTunes. From the Store menu at the top, choose Check for Available Downloads.
2. Enter your account name and password when prompted, then click the Check button. Your purchase should begin downloading.

Place the iPod in Recovery mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes.

Why does compressor need to be connected to internet to work?

I am using an 8 core macpro with 10.5.2 installed and final cut pro 6.0.3
when I put a job in compressor and try to submit the job, compressor says it has an unknown time remaining , and nothing ever gets done. That is because I have blocked the out going connection to a couple of ports that my firewall was telling me compressor tried to connect to the internet when I submitted this job.
If I do NOT allow compressor to connect to the internet, I can NOT use it.
After I allow compressor to connect to these weird ports, only then can compressor work.
DId compressor get infected with a virus or something? Why do I need an internet connection to use compressor?

This problem is not unique to just me, a search for "compressor unknown time remaining" in google shows alot of people with this issue

sadly, I have yet to find a solution other then it working on 6.0 and 6.02
please do not say its user error when I have tried all the so called workarounds and none have work.
it works when I let it connected to the ports it connects to, if I do not let it connect to the ports, it doesnt work

Maybe it's in your computer itunes libarry but not synced to the phone assuming that's where you're trying to play it from?

It says it needs to be connected to itunes and restored. when i do that, it goes through the whole process then comes up with "iphone could not be restored. unknown error code (-1)". Please help

My brother gave me his old iphone when the touch screen went out on mine. It's in great shape but when I received it, it says that it needs to be connected to itunes to be restored. For no apparent reason my phone stopped working...so I did a reset and got the message 'Restore Needed'. I connected to iTunes and got this message: 'iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on your iPhone before it can be used with iTunes'.
The problem is, I can't enter my passcode because I'm not given that option on the iPhone. All I seem to be able to do is make an emergency call.
It's been working fine otherwise. Any suggestions?
This is the SECOND replacement iPhone I've had this week and I'm getting a bit fed up.

Are you referring to the 4 digit passcode needed to enter the phone and use it's features?
If so reboot your iPhone and enter the passcode to get it operational. Launch Image Capture on the Mac and connect the iPhone. Now you should be able to download the video files to wherever you want on your hard drive.

Your phone is in recovery mode. Did you plug it to the computer running itunes? What happend?

If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. I have the newest generation iPod and I've been trying to do the iOS 8 update. It downloaded and then when I hit install, it powered my iPod down and then said it needed to be connected to iTunes. Recently, my laptop crashed and I lost all of my music. So now I am without a laptop and I can't sync my iPod to any other computer because I'm afraid I'll lose the 4,000+ songs I've gotten over the years. If one of these programs will not kick the iPod out of recovery mode then yo will have to connect to iTunes and restore and thus erase the iPod.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

There's no fast rule sayng you must, and I suspect most people only use one.
You might want to set up a second library if your first one is so huge that it is slow to operate. Split your media. For example, I don't listen to classical and rock music at the same time and could restart iTunes ffrom a different library when the time came to switch.
I have a few extra libraries. One's for music I organized for a special occasion but don't really listen to myself and don't want it cluttering mine. I also have a special library for my mp3 player (not an Apple model) with its own set of files which match some in my main library but they are tagged differently to be compatible with the player's quirks.
I could also see having a different library for files on an external drive if you have some on your internal drive too. You might, for example, have a bunch of movie files on an external drive that you don't normally need to have plugged in all the time and don't want iTunes giving you a bunch of exclamation marks if are using it to play your music media on your internal drive.

I use only one Apple ID and only one ID. I did have to change the password at one point but I had no issues at all with updating apps after I changed the password.
If you can download new apps with the ID that you changed the password for, I would think that you will be able to update apps associated with that ID as well.
Did you try restarting the iPad after signing out of the one account and then sign in to the other account/accounts?

You can try resetting your iPad and iPhone by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
