Why do I need to change permissions on files I upload?

I have used the same hosting service for a few years, and just uploaded some files using CS6. For some reason, the files that were uploaded did not have the right permissions on them and I had to right click on them on the server and set the permissions on them by checking the box for "Everyone" under the Read column. Three times I clicked on the "Read All" button and all of the files on the server side of the FTP window disappeared, I lost my ability to connect to the server, and nothing showed up when I went to my domain name in 3 different browsers and my phone. My web host says they are not sure why it may have done this.
1. Why do I need to set the permissions for my HTML files this way?
2. Is this the right way to do this? OR is there some other way I should be doing this?
3. Any idea what the issue I experienced with my files disappearing was caused by?

This was a known bug experienced by a handful of people.
Make sure you have all the latest updates for DW CS6.

Once the file has been downloaded, it has to be unpacked (unzipped, dearchived, whatever term you want to use), and it requires that extra space for that purpose.
My personal suggestion is to use a computer with iTunes to download and install the update, as OTA updates occasionally result in Recovery mode due to errors.

The 2 year old fix for changing temp files is no longer valid, I need to change the temp file location in the latest firefox.

In 3.6.3 I'm unable to find the parent cache to change where the temp files are located. I have an SSD drive, and I need to get the temp file off, and onto my platter drive. I have read the previous fix of about:config and changing the parent cache location, but it no longer seems to be there. I'm unable to locate anything relating to my SSD drive location in about:config.

Unfortunately, it appears that what I wrote about not being able to find the location IN about:config of the cache to change it from my C: drive to a different location, was mildly misunderstood that I didn't know how to get into about:config.
The location of browser.cache.disk.parent_directory does not currently exist in 3.6.3. I'm assuming it's under a different location. Also using the simple string of "cache" lists several options, but none of them appear to be where firefox is currently dumping the temp files onto my C:
I merely need to know how to switch the temp file location from 1 drive, to another. Not downloads, the temp file.

CC Team. Need to change permissions for users

I have installed CC Team on several computers, 15 so far or so.
I made install package to do this.
I used the default settings which among other things don't allow the users to update the applications. The Admin can only do it.
Now I am facing the problem that users who are using CC on their private computers cannot update some programs because the Admin has to do this.
Is there some simple way to change the permissions so they can update?

With the new updates, why do I need to change my password

Today, 2/16/12, I tried to log into my apple id account and was forced to change my password, has anyone else had to do this and does anyone know why this is happening, as dumb as it sounds I was used to my old password and would like to keep using it

When did you set up your old password?
A while back, Apple updated the requirements so passwords must contain 1 uppercase letter, 1 number, and have 8 characters minimum.

Need to change permissions if moving backup disk to Server?

I have a Time Machine backup disk that's been directly connected to a client machine. There is much free space still left on that drive and we're retiring the client. I'd like to move that backup drive to our OS X Server machine and have it backup a few other clients that connect to it.
I understand there's difficulty in directly moving a backup drive to a server and having TM backups continue, incrementally, as usual.
I'm not so interested in accomplishing that as I am making insuring the integrity of future backups. What concerns me the most is that on the old client the drive's owner was jill and after moving it to our server it's owner is jeff (whom happens to be logged into the server right now). BUT, all our shared drives are owned by localadmin as required during the LDAP/Open Directory setup that I can't fully remember right now.
should I change ownership of this drive? Make it a Share Point in Server Admin? If so what happens to that old Backups.packupd folder and it's contents. Could they still be used to recover files from Jill's old account?

Just get the new machine? If so, which option did you use to migrate? Is the old machine a PPC and the new one an ICBM (Intel-chip-based Mac)? I need to change my image file size but keep the same pixels. Possible?

I'm trying to upload an image to a mobile ad platform (Adfonic) with the following requirements: Image dimensions 216 x 36 pixels; max file size 3.0 kb; file formats supported GIF, JPG, PNG. I figured out how to change the pixel size but now my file is too big. I have Photoshop CS4 Extended & Vista.
I changed the file resolution but then the pixel size changes. What can I do?

Save-As, JPEG offers you a quality slider. You trade quality for size. This still wouldn't give you what you needed?
You could try JPEG 2000, but beware, it's not as compatible with as many things, and it can look kind of weird, but boy does it compress...

I have made many adjustments to a psd file in Lightroom, made sure to save metadata to file... but when I open the file in Photoshop CS6 it reverts to the original version without the Lightroom changes. How can I get Photoshop to recognize the adjustments to the file?

Excellent... have a great day!!! As Lightroom makes non-destructive changes the only way for them to be "seen" is to create pixels to match them when the files is opened into other applications.

What is the need of Voting file or disk??? i know it maintains the node information n all. But if nodes can ping all other nodes what is the need of voting disk.

Lets take the case of a 2 node RAC - instance 'A' and instance 'B';
Lets assume that instances A & instance B is unable to communicate with each other. Now, this might be due the fact that the other instance is actually down oR because there is some problem with the interconnect communication between the instances.
A split-brain occurs when the instances cannot speak to each other due to interconnect communication problem and each instance happens to think that it's the only surviving instance and starts updating the database. This obviously is problematic, isn't it?
To avoid split brain, both instances are required to update the voting disk periodically.
Now consider the earlier case from the perspecive of one of the nodes:
case 1) instance B is actually down:- Here, looking from instance A's perspective; there is no communication over the interconnect with instance B and also instance B is not updating the voting disk ('coz it's down). Instance A can safely assume that instance B is down and it can go on providing the services and updating the database.
Case 2) the problem is with interconnect communication:- Here, looking from instance A's perspective; there is no communication over the interconnect with instance B. However it can see that instance B is updating the voting disk; which means instance B is not actually down. This state is true from instance B's perspective; it can see that instance A is updating the voting disk but it cannot speak to instance A over the interconnect. At this point, both instances rush and try to lock down the voting disk and whoever gets the lock ejects the other one thus avoiding split-brain syndrome.
That's the theory behind using a voting disk.
When the instances of a RAC boots up, one of the instances will be assigned the master. In the case of a split-brain the master gets the lock on the voting disk and survives. In reality the instance with the lower node number survives, even if the problem is with the interconnect network card on that node :)

Why does imovie need to keep the original file after I have edited?

I record basketball games with my ipad and I keep the footage but cut the video so I can make highlights for the season. Thing is, these original videos are usually close to 10GB each and over an hour long.
I might have 5 minutes of highlights when Im done.
So to save space in my Imovie projects, I kept the clips i want and deleted the videos. When I came back to add more video to my season project, it said missing file.
Does it need to save the entire original media after I cut the video? I dont want to keep every game on my computer, I just want to keep what I cut and throw the rest out. But Imovie is asking for the original file.
Any solutions for this, or do I need to upgrade to a more professional editor?

You are using a - Non Destructing Video Editing program.
Meaning that Your movie in making ==> Project - DO NOT contain any movie or material at all - BUT only a text document pointing to where material is stored e.g. folder iMovie Event's, other hard disks, DVDs, CDs or USB-memories.
And if any of these storage's are moved or disconnected - iMovie get's lost and can not View Your Project.
iMovie - do not have any "Media Managing Function" as FinalCut Pro (as it can reconnect moved material and create a complete contaning folder)
Even when You Shared Your movie - there still will be links back to material - to make it possibly to further editing's, and Sharing in other resolutions.
This is the cost of working this way. So I use an external hard disk for storage
- MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted - UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange will not work for VIDEO
- Moving Video Event's - MUST BE DONE WITHIN iMovie Application - ELSE connections will be broken - meaning HARD to IMPOSSIBLY to mend later. Be aware !
All other material I store in Folders named as movie project + date - all from start on the external Drive.

New User Account and Changing Permissions?

Yesterday I opened a new user account for each of my kids. I moved and/or imported all their stuff to their respective accounts and all seems fine. Except for one folder... The most important one (of course ;o). It has a big red circle saying "..you don't have access".
This work was done while he was still using my account. So I have since brought it back to my desktop and all is fine. Am I correct in assuming I need to change permissions on this before he can access his folder on his account? If so.. I've never done this before. Can somebody please be good enough to walk me through this? I can not lose this file. There are no copies anywhere else. Please help!

Rather than trying to change any permissions, my suggestion would be:
1) Log into your own account and move the folder from your Desktop to your Public folder.
2) Log into your son's new account, navigate to the Public folder back on your account
HD>Users>yourname>Public
and drag the folder from there onto the current (your son's) Desktop.
This will COPY the folder into the new account rather than move it, and in doing so will correct all the permissions automatically. If the folder is very large, make sure you have enough free disk space for this copy. You can later delete the original from your own Public folder if you wish.

I need to change permissions of a large number of pdf compilable files, to make possible to save filled information in fields.
Avoiding to open manually the files with Acrobat and re-save them (via File >> Save As >> Reader Extended PDF... ), i would like to know if there is another way to do that, like a command line utility in SKD package, or a web services that do that.

How can I change permissions on my iPhone photos?

Whenever I download, or email, photos from my iPhone to my PC, the photos come in rotated. Whenever I try to edit photos taken with my iPhone, even something as simple as rotate or resize, I get errors telling me "You cannot rotate this image. The file may be in use or open in another program [it isn't] or the file or folder may be read-only." The folder is NOT Read Only but the all Microsoft permissions are greyed out and cannot be changed.
No matter what avenue I follow to change permissions, the files remained locked up tighter than Fort Knox and I can't do anything except get seriously frustrated.
What in blazes can I do to keep ownership of my own photos? They are completely useless in this form.
I'm running an iPhone 4S with OS 5.1, my laptop is running Win 7 Home Edition Service Pack 1.

Are you talking about your apple id or actually email address?
apple id - settings - app/itunes store - view id - log out and log in with new id.
email addres - settings - mail/contact/calendar - add account.
