Why do I need to reset my Airport Express multiple times a day?
I purchased an Airport Express (AE) in 2008. Ocassionaly since I've owned the device, I've had a problem connecting to it via iPod touch, iPhone, Macbook Pro, Macbook, etc. I would see the AE in my wifi router list, I just couldn't connect to it. I simple reboot always seemed to fix the problem. As time has passed, I found myself having to reboot it more and more often. Within the past few months, it seems to be a daily occurance. Within the past couple weeks, I've had to reboot it multiple times a day. I have also performed a facory reset via the button and via airport utility - neither seem to affect the issue.
I like the AE for the simple fact that it has AirTunes abilities, this is quite frankly the only reason I have it. I would like to replace it, but I fear another unit would have similar issues.
Is anyone else having these same problems on a 2+ year old AirPort Express? if so, is there a fix action? thanks.
Hi, I'm having the same problem and have to reboot my Airport Express at least once a day. It is extremely frustrating.

Frequent need to reset my airport express
I have a powerline configuration, where I use my houses electrical system to create a wired network. With the help of this forum I was able to use my old airport express units to broadcast wifi through my old house with lots of disruptive metal lathe walls in the house. The network effectively connects the ae units via Ethernet cable to the powerline units which are configured as a single network (I don't need to change wifi network names when I move around the house).
This system mostly works, but I am finding that I need to unplug and replug the airport express units often (resetting them in effect) which solves the problem. One unit in particular needs to be reset often, sometimes daily. Is this common? Is it a function of old ae units, which are probably at least 3 years old. One unit in particular is worse than the others, which makes me think it's the ae units. One older one completely died on me recently, so maybe they just die occasionally? What do you think?could be the ae's; or the electrical circuits used by the powerlines, especially when they are not the same phase.

What is the point of connecting an AirPort Express to a printer when you could just use AirPrint from an iPhone?
All you guys are mistaking the Airprint system. Wireless printing is a Misnomer. Nothing prints wirelessly. Both the printer and the computer, or i or android device have to be all connected to the same LAN. They can be connected by a wire or a WiFi signal but they all must be on the same LAN.
Airprint is a Driverless printing system where No Specific Printer drivers have to be installed on the computer or other device. Even with the Airprint system both the printer and the device you are printing from have to be on the same LAN. -

You haven't provided any useful information so it's almost impossible to help you. If you are really running OS X 10.2.x as your profile states then you are posting in the wrong forum, this forum is for Intel based iMacs that began shipping with Tiger 10.4.x. Also you haven't stated what Airport Extreme you have, there have been many models over the years. Once you locate which AE you have I'd recommend posting in the appropriate AE forum and try to paint a clear picture of what is happening and also provide the verison of OS X you're using, the Mac model and ever the firmware version of the AE you have. You can find the firmware version by running Airport Utility. -

If you computer is working fine you do not need to reset this. It is not a maintenance procedure.

MacBook Pro that my Airport Express WiFi profile was created crashed. Can i reset the Airport Express either to an iPad or Windows 7 computer?
Get the Airport Utility for the your iPad from the App store. You will need to know the password for the Airport Express (not the WiFi password) to access the AE. The iPad utility will, I think, do all of the actions to control your AE.
You can reset the AE back to factory default but with the iPad app you should not ned to. -
I want to reset my Airport Express (older version), but I get a message that my airport configuration program in mavericks is too new.
Mavericks does not support the older AirPort Express, so you will need to use....or borrow...a Mac running Leopard, Snow Leopard, or a PC to be able to administer the older Express.

I just bought a new Motorola modem. Do I need to reconfigure my Airport Express? For some reason we have WiFi even though the amber light is blinking.
Typically, when changing out networking hardware, it is always a good idea to perform a complete power reset of all of your networking equipment.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results. -
I need to connect an Airport Express to an exisitng Wi-Fi Netgear Router. 1) My PC do not detect the Airport Express, 2) AE is flashing amber all the time... Please if someone can help?
Before I bought it I did the same question at the Apple Store, and they told me "You can extend your existing Wi-Fi Signal with Airport Express wireless...
You cannot extend wireless from any brand except another apple router.. the store might have assumed you were using an apple main router. Most people who buy express buy them to extend an extreme or time capsule.
You are correct .. in the setup documents it does say 5.6.1 is adequate to do the setup.. my bad.. !! -
I now have internet thru AT&T Uverse with their wireless router.....do I still need to use my Airport Express for my 2 MACS or can I just unplug it?
You can just unplug the express and use the Uverse wireless or ethernet directly to it.

The ZyXEL P-2601HN-F1, as you know, is a combination DSL modem & 802.11n wireless router (or gateway device).
For your goal you will want to take a look at this Apple Support article for details on how to configure an AX for iTunes.
If you are still having difficulties with the AX joining the ZyXEL's wireless network, you can try the following:
Temporarily disable wireless encryption.
If you are hidding the SSID, disable that feature.
Change the Mode Select setting to: 802.11g Only
Change the Channel Selection from "Auto" to a set channel, like 1, 6, or 11 -

If no, you can only use the AirPort Express by connecting to the router in the living room using an Ethernet cable at all times. -
I play music on my hi fi via an airport express attached to my iMac.
Since installing maverick the sound quality is terrible and I get frequent distortion, which never happened before.
I have reset the airport express and reconfigure my wireless settings. I have also used Ethernet on its own but still get the same sound problems.
I would love to turn itunes sound off as you used to be able to do, but this I believe can't be done.
Has anyone else been having the same types of problem, and better still has anyone got the answer?When the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is connected by Ethernet, you will find an option in the AirPort Utility, labeled: Enable AirTunes over Ethernet on the Music pane. Just select this option to allow streaming iTunes via the AirPort's Ethernet port. You should also be able to disable the AX's wireless so that it shouldn't interfere with the nearby TC.

After resetting our Airport Express, only one of our wider network is able to login to the network. Please offer solutions to return to multiple logins?
