Why do i need to use a credit card to do updates
I don't want to set up iTunes with a credit card, however, when I try to update something like iPhoto it requires me to have a credit card. If it is a free update then why do I need to put in a credit card number?

im about to download a free app - as i have done many times before
and now itunes needs my creditcard info to be correct .. why ? its supposed to be free ?
well i filled the forms with a correct credit card number (my mastercard) and still no result - itunes tells med i should enter a valid payment method

can someone tell me why ?Apple wants you to risk your number out on the internet maybe, they don't care about customers. They state that it is for validation of your account, but this make no sense as you already have entered a username and password, which seems to work fine on any other site. They basically want your wallet to be held hostage, even for updating already installed apps (this should make you think). This is bad in my book, and I think Apple should change this action ASAP. It is not right and they know it, but greed seems to be the game for them I guess. You should not have to risk your credit card number being transmitted across the internet just to update or install a free app. Android market place does not do things this way.

When I activate genius I am always led to a page where my credit card information, including the three digit security code are asked.
If a transaction is attempted, please tell me: which one, of what amount?
If not, because Genius is free, why are you needing my security code (the three digit under my card)?

Grunt.I just attempted to create a new account when downloading a free application, and the problem remain the same. There is no way to select no credit card and a payment mode is mantadory.
The best way would be to add the choice:
"No Payment mode yet"
on that web page, to allow all users to select their payment mode only at buying time.
This would be far more secure for all the reasons I've said:
APPLE MAY BE HACKED LIKE SONY AND SHALL NOT STORE CREDIT CARDS INFORMATION.
ESPECIALLY NOT THE SECURE CODE!!!!!

Apple forces users to find messages among the Internet to understand how they could register without a credit card,
and not only these explainations don't work, but its far more complex for users to find them and try to follow them than to select a proper option THAT IS NOT HERE but should have been if the web site had been made a honest way.
BUT, if someone at Apple feel able to setup my account a way no payment mode is mandory,
please exceute yourself the proper operations to ensure it can truely be done,

If you believe I am only doing mistakes during my registration, and this is what you are suggesting and I am doing attempts after attempts many differents way, please finish it well from you internal computing services. And eventually, if you failed or refuse to do so, change your web page instead to set that missing option on it.

Either correct my profile YOURSELVES at Apple, or correct your web site like any good company that pretend being customer friendly would do.

Why do I need to verify my credit card info if an App is free?
Why do I need to have a valid credit card in my Apple Account if an App is free? For example I have been trying to download the free app to Google Earth to my iPad2. I really want to just delete my credit card except for those few times when I buy something. I don't want it on my iPad2 all the time. I know there is a way to do this as the woman at the Apple store did it for me, but now I don't know what steps she took.

Your credit card on file is not on your iPad all the time. It is stored on Apple's iTunes servers only. No one that uses your iPad or that has access to your iPad in the even it were lost or stolen can't access your credit card number and other required info in order to use it. In order to download a free or paid app, you must manually enter your iTunes account password, which no one else knows or should not know.

To create an Apple ID without a credit or debit card, there is a specific series of steps that have to be processed in order to allow the payment to be set as none on creation of the account.

If the specific steps have not been processed, a credit or debit card will be required to complete the setup the account.
However, it can be removed and payment method changed to none as long as there is not an outstanding balance. At this point an iTunes gift card can be used as form of payment.

If you have a payment source associated with your Apple ID, it needs to be a vaild form of payment. To troubleshoot issues with your payment type being declined, please follow the steps below.
In most cases, this issue is caused by a formatting error in the billing address that you have provided. You can correct the issue by verifying that the information you have provided is correct, or by changing the format of your address to match the format that your credit card company has on file.
You can verify and/or modify your billing address by following these instructions:
Open iTunes. If you are signed in to iTunes, skip to step 4.
Note: Verify that you are signed in to the correct iTunes account. If you are unsure which account you're signed into, choose Store > Sign Out and proceed to step 2.
Choose Store > Sign In.
Enter your account name and password, then click the Sign In button.
Choose Store > View My Account.
Click the Edit Payment Information button.
In the Payment Method section, choose None.
Click the Done button at the bottom of the page.

I want to use free apps on Ipad 2, but it continually asks me to submit a credit card in Itunes. I do not wish to purchase anything apps or music. I am only interested in free apps. If I were to make purchases, I would use a prepaid card like an itunes card or an app card, but NEVER a credit card. I can't seem to bypass this option of using a credit card and need to. I have another Ipad 4 and have never needed to use my credit card to migrate past itunes to use any apps. How do I get past this credit card request and still use my ipad 2. According to my Ipad 2, if I don't plug in a credit card, I can't even use free apps which is stupid.
You can create an iTune and App Store account without credit card details
1. Sign out of current Apple ID if you are sign-in to one (important)
2. Go to App Store and select a free app
3. Tap INSTALL APP
4. Create New Apple ID
5. Confirm Your Country
6. Agree with Terms and Conditions
7. Fill in your Apple ID and Password (you must create a new Apple ID; don't use your old Apple ID)
8. Create and answer your secret question
9. Select NONE for Payment Method
10. Fill in Billing Address
11. Submit application for new Apple ID
12. Wait for verification email
13. When email arrive, verify your account
14. Start downloading your free apps -

I haven't seen a good answer from this yet. You can create a new Apple ID for the store without a CC. You can remove your CC info from an already established ID (you made a purchase in iTunes), but you can't use your Apple ID for first time use in the Store without a CC.
