Why do I often get some folder in my Trash named Recovered Files?

My computer often has problem when sutting down. Some time I even have to mannually switch off the computer because it doesnot shut down itself. Also I keep getting folders named Recovered files in my trash. Are these relevent files. Can someone please explain this?

Usually they are installer files that you don't need. Open trash and make sure it is not a Doc or something else that you think is important, and put it a folder if you want keep it, but you can usually trash it.

  • As a novice computer user, I wonder why I'm often getting "white-out" (program/app I'm working in goes totally blank onscreen). If it makes a difference, I'm working 99% of the time on battery, not AC, power. What causes this?

As a novice computer user, I wonder why I'm often getting "white-out" (program/app/site I'm working in goes totally blank onscreen). This is when I'm Internet online. If it makes a difference, I'm working 99% of the time on battery, not AC, power. Some of the possibilities I'm guessing are: glitches in my Verizon FiOS Wi-Fi providership?; staying too long on a site that's waiting for me to finish and "Submit"?; computer hardware prob (yikes, I hope not! It's brand new). Any ideas out there?

When this 'white-out' occurs, is the display 100% white with no error message and no menu bar?
Does this occur when you are using Wi Fi or connected to the Internet via the Ethernet cable?
    Ciao.

@Jack – you were using a joboptions file by Distiller to convert a PostScript file to a PDF/X-1a.
What you get is no error message, just a report, that everything went ok. And in this case I cannot see any advantage using PDF Export for printing to PostScript/distilling to PDF. Ok, maybe one, CS5 and above would export in a background process.
To prevent InDesign flattening transparency, you could use PDF/X-4 as your export setting. You cannot use writing to PostScript for that task.
Check including tags for tagged export to prevent misalignment of text because of a strange bug with PDF Export when you are using 9pt text on 12pt leading or text with a ratio of 9/12 for point size and leading in multicolumn text frames.

Hello everyone. Does anyone know that the matrix.dms file is? And why it may have came to be in my picture folder? When I opened the file the unarchiver took over, then I saw my files in the unarchiver window. I then scrolled down and I saw the same matrix.dms file within the unarchiver window. I made a video of what saw when I tried to open the file, so as to aide in your understanding of reason for my perplexion at this file. Thank you for your help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QeWH9hRnro&feature=youtu.be

    Hi EMT-B,
It sounds like you have done all the troubleshooting needed to narrow down your issue with the iPhone camera to hardware. Based on the information you have provided, it appears your iPhone needs to be serviced. The following link should help you get started with the process and has links with additional information on topics such as warranty and service pricing, battery replacement, and express replacement service.

  • Why do I keep seeing FONTS in the TRASH as "Recovered Files"?

My computer isn't crashing... but most of the time when I restart I see that there's something in the trash.
Oh, it's a Recovered Files folder! Wow, must be important?
Nah. It's just a few random fonts.
This actually happens quite often. And I don't even remember using those fonts. It happens even when I don't use Word or InDesign.
I think it might be Safari?
    ???

It is Safari, as I have occasionally seen the same thing. I think what happens is this:
    1. You go to a site that specifies some odd-ball font that you do not have installed, but you do have a copy of it somewhere (in my case I have an enormous font collection on a backup drive)
    2. The system now knows where all fonts are--don't remember whether this started in Leopard or Snow Leopard--regardless of WHERE those fonts are, and Safari has access to this info
    3. Since the font isn't installed Safari asks you if it can use the font
    4. Safari copies the font into a temporary location, probably one of the standard tmp folders in /private/var/folders/ and leaves the font there
    5. When you shutdown and subsequently restart the system disposes of a lot of gunk that gets left in the tmp folder, and puts said gunk in the Recovered Items folder.
If it annoys you to have stuff in the Trash, you could go ahead and install the fonts. However I have never bothered since TextEdit ALWAYS leaves a bit of trash behind, and I use it nearly every day, so I almost always have to empty the Trash and the Recovered Items folder anyway.

  • Why do I often get the blinking yellow?

I am having a problem understanding why on an irregular (but often) basis, I get the flashing yellow light. It doesn't seem to affect my time machine backups, and my wifi seems to be working just fine when this light is blinking. If I unplug my TC, and plug it back in, my green light comes on, then lasts that way for days. This is a first generation TC, so it has some age on it. BTW, I plug my desktop in to one of the ethernet outlets, but my air and iPhone connect via wifi. Any ideas?

Well I did indeed need a firmware update. That newest airport utility is way cool:)  Updated, and restarted to Green. My assumption is it solved the problem. I'll keep an eye on it for the near future. Thanks for the suggestion in the other thread!

  • Why do I often get blank frames while acquiring images using external trigger under Windows 7?

I'm using Windows 7, the latest LabVIEW and IMAQdx right now. The program was developed based on the example provided by LabVIEW. Everything ran well on Windows XP using internal trigger or external trigger. But when I wanted to run the program on a desktop with Win 7, I just cannot get the images continuously using the external trigger. Although I can get the images, the blank frames showed up very often. When I chose the internal trigger, there was no problem.
Once I thought there might be something wrong with my program. But I tried the LabVIEW example to select the internal trigger mode and external trigger mode, it had the same problem.
Is there anyone could give me some suggestions to solve this problem?
    Thanks!

    Hi Matt,
The images are either "all blank" or "all good".
The hardware setup is exactly the same.
The blank images are not acquired periodically.
Similar results were also seen when using MAX to control the camera.
We found a solution to this problem. But we don't know how to explain it. When we were using the 5-Hz external trigger, we thought the video mode would not affect the image acquisition and therefore we left the video mode option as default (15 fps). But when we change the video mode to 7.5 fps or 30 fps, the problem disappeared. So now if we want to get rid of the blank frames while using the external trigger, we just need to choose the video mode other than 15 fps. Interestingly, when we switch back to the XP system, the camera also acquried inconsistent blank frames if we set the video mode at 15 fps.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Why can't I get some buttons to work on websites? Need to enable something?

Recently, I am not able to use certain portions of 3 websites that I used to be able to use. I can get to the pages, and some buttons/links work within pages, but when I try to click on some buttons on some pages, nothing happens at all. The computer is not frozen, I can do other things on the page. Example #1 - I was trying to access my photo albums at Snapfish.com but I cannot access my albums, or select albums to which I will download photos. #2. I was trying to create a gmail e-mail address. When I tried I had a message about enabling something. Didn't know what it meant or how to do that. Any ideas on what to adjust on my computer so that I can do what I used to be able to do?
PowerBook G4 Titanium   Mac OS X (10.2.x)   768 MB Ram

Which browser are you using? Do you have Enable Java checked in it's preferences? When you get a message it's a good idea to write down exactly what it says rather than dismiss it and wonder later what it said about something.

  • Why do I often get significantly better performance out of the integrated GFX on the new MBP 15"?

I have the new lower-end 15" MBP. I have never once experienced a time where the discrete GPU outperformed the "HD Graphics 3000". Just the opposite, in fact. On a particular itunes visualizer, I get around 55fps with the integrated GFX, and around 32 with discrete. When playing games from The Orange Box, I get 90-140fps on integrated gfx and 30-50 on discreet. These are the only specific benchmarks I have, but I have noticed the same trend elsewhere too. Is there something wrong with my computer, or is this the norm?

    wyager wrote:
@ds_storeI thought the HD 3000 didn't really have any RAM, but it could borrow 384 megs from the system RAM?
Yes the HD 3000 uses main memory where programs and working files are stored, assuming the 384MG is assigned when the machine boots up. If one places more RAM in their machine, there is the possibility that more memory could be used by the HD 3000.
With about 11 on the OpenGL for the dual core with HD 3000, the quad core with HD 3000 might be around 22 or so on the OpenGL which might be just around as fast as the descrete Radeon 6490M. (which is a poor card BTW)
If certain programs were optimized for the HD 3000 by default, yea sure on this machine it's looking like certain programs may be faster on the HD 3000 than on the descrete card.
    wyager wrote:
I understand if the HD 3000 gfx performs better at encoding/decoding video, it has a whole new instruction set for that, but it seems like if it performs this well all around, apple shouldn't have wasted the space for the discrete card...
It's looking with the low end 15" one has the same performance on either, all depends upon the software if it's written for integrated or descrete graphics.
Some 3D games won't run unless it has a descrete video card, what's the use.
You can see here though, descrete graphics is way ahead of integrated graphics

  • Why can't I get some of my music to sync?

I had an iPhone 4S, I attempted to change the password to my Apple ID, something went wrong (I don't know what?!) and I couldn't reset the password as I'd lost access to my registered email address.
I registered a new apple ID and all was well till I bought a new iPhone 5 back in September, the music from my new ID came across but the music from my old ID obviously didn't. I'm not very technically minded at all, so I ended up just using my old phone as an iPod basically.
My brother in law had a look at it for me a few weeks ago and somehow managed to change my old ID account details to a different email and password that I can now access, so all of my music I had downloaded on my old ID is now on my new phone along with the music I've downloaded on my new ID.
Now I have just bought a new laptop (windows), I downloaded iTunes, signed in on my newer ID, music synced all fine, but even when I sign in my old ID I can't get my music synced from my old ID?
I'm sorry, I know it's complicated, but if anyone can follow what I'm asking, and then knows how I can get all of my music, new and old, to back up to iTunes on my laptop, I'd be really grateful.
    Thanks in advance.

Do a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).
If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 8.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
It may not be necessary to create a new profile, so first try if it works with your current profile and if not then create a new profile.
