Why do iOS 5-only apps appear in app-update queue?

I have two apps sitting in my update queue that will only run on iOS 5 (I have iOS 4). Is there any way to clear your queue, or decline an update? I do not want to upgrade to iOS 5 (or Lion).
Also, can anyone explain to me why the App Store upgrade process does not detect incompatibilities like this? In other words, why would it say there is an upgrade available if your iOS doesn't support the new version of the app?
Edited to include current iOS version.

You were asked about Push notifications, not whether or not the application could add itself to Notification Center.

  • IPad 1 - Can't download OR remove iOS 6 only app updates from App Store

So, I've come to terms with the fact that my trusty iPad 1 won't be getting iOS 6 (thanks Apple)
But now, there are updates for apps I've paid for that are iOS 6 only. I've even come to terms with that!
The most annoying thing is, Apple are rubbing my face in it by choosing not to prevent the App Store from displaying these unattainable updates on a system incapable of running iOS.
Im guessing that they're using this as a tactic to constantly remind iPad 1 owners that their device is obsolete.
Anyone think they'll eventually decide to so sort this?

Thanks for the reply, but with all respect, thats quite an obvious and patronising point you've made.
Sending feedback to a feedback mailbox won't answer my query, and I'm sure that an organisation as big as Apple have already identified this.
My specific question is about the displaying of updates that are unattainable. Hoping that someone in the community might be aware of whether this is due to be sorted.

  • Why are my iPhone only apps displaying too big on my iPad in ios7

I have a number of iPhone only apps and previously I could x2 to use them on my iPad. In ios7 that option is no longer available and the contents of the apps appear too big and I have to school from side to side to read the details. One example is G-Toolkit

+1 on that. my problem app is the AT&T mobile app.

  • IOS 7 force app update check

How do I force the app store to check for app updates in iOS7?

I had the same problem under 7.1
I solved it by erasing my phone completely (in settings/reset) and restored it from an iTunes Backup.
    Hope it will help you,
    Fred.

  • Why does iOS 6 apple App Store keep on saying "cannot connect to iTunes Store" ?? Apple, please fix this problem or else I am switching to Samsung!!!

Why does App Store keep crashing!!! It's completely ****!! I am going to buy an android phone if they don't fix this immediately!!!

Basics from the user guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new.  I'll bet you've not tried any or all of these basic steps.
BTW, we're users, here, not Apple.  So threating to buy an android phone not only makes you look like an idiot, but none of us users on this forum really give a **** what you do.

  • Why is iMovie the only app that sees my Canopus ADVC?

I'd like to do some audio recording through my Canopus ADVC 110. Yeah, I know, I could do it through the built-in audio in... but is that port really as good? Besides, what the heck did I buy this nice expensive box for, anyway?
But iMovie seems to be the only thing that it works with. I tried recording from Quicktime Pro, but all I get is a black screen, and no sound. And yes, I did select the ADVC as the video source, and DV audio as the audio source. No help.
Meanwhile, GarageBand doesn't seen to notice it, and even the Sound preferences panel doesn't acknowledge its existance as an audio source.
    So what gives?

That's definitely strange, kzmidge. I want a working phone in your hands though. I noticed you mentioned you received the suggestion to complete a reset. Did you already do that? Is it working again? Are you receiving an error message?
If you hesitated a little longer to complete the reset, you can try to place your phone into Safe Mode http://vz.to/rxg0ii and see if you can access mobile sites from your browser. This mode will stop 3rd party applications from running, so you won't be able to use the apps you mentioned but we may be able to narrow down the trouble in Safe Mode. If the mobile sites work, that means the trouble may be in a recently downloaded application and you may be able to avoid the reset my uninstalling some of your more recently installed applications. If it's still giving you trouble, the reset http://vz.to/18wzOCi is the next best step.

  • IPad 2/iOS 5.1 app updates hung in a 'waiting' state

After I upgraded my iPad 2 to iOS 5.1, I cannot update my apps. There are hung in a 'waiting' state. Any ideas how to fix this?  This is the first time I've run into this.  I've upgraded to 5.0, 5.0.1 with no problems whatsoever.  Now 5.1 fails to update apps all the time.

For the last few days, since the worldwide launch of the New iPad, Apple's servers have been overwhelmed.  Give it a few days to settle down as a more reasonable number of users access the store.

  • Why is my iphone only playing purchased music after updating to ios8

My iphone 5c is only playing songs that I have bought on iTunes. My phone is skipping over any other songs and having them appear as though they are currently playing. It started doing this a week after I updated my phone to ios8.

    Can't say I blame it ...
Seriously, check your settings and volume.  I just tried it on my 4S and it works fine.
Go into Settings, Maps and check that the volume is on.  Also check to make sure you have not muted the phone somehow.

  • Why can't I download app updates or new podcasts

    Hi,
I have an Iphone 4 with IOS 7.0.3 and I'm unable to download any updates for apps. Currently I have 3 updates available, BBC, Trivago and Facebook and when I go to update them the blue circle just keeps spinning around and never starts.
Along with that I'm not able to download podcasts, it just stays at the preparing to download stage and then just stops trying.
Can anyone give me some help with this?

    Hey ELSheepO,
I would try out the following troubleshooting steps to see if that helps the issue at all:
Make sure your date, time, and time zone are correct in Settings > General > Date & Time.
Note: Time Zone may list another city in your time zone.
Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by tapping Settings > General > Software Update (iOS 5 or later) or connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clicking Check for Update on your device's Summary page.
Check and verify that you're in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you're on a device with cellular service, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.
Note: If connected to cellular data, larger items may not download. You may need to connect to Wi-Fi to download apps, videos, and podcasts.
Make sure that you have an active Internet connection. You can check the user guide for your device for help with connecting to the Internet.
Make sure that other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.
Try resetting (turning off and then on again) your Wi-Fi router.
If the issue persists, try troubleshooting your Wi-Fi networks and connections.

  • Why doesn't CC desktop app update work?  Error 50.

I tried to update through the app when it told me there was a new update for Creative Cloud.
The update failed to install (Error 50) after downloading.  Two different PCs with completely different hardware/drivers/configurations - same problem on both.  I had to completely uninstall the app and reinstall, which negates the whole idea of the update process.  What exactly is the point of an update facility if it doesn't work?  I hear this is not an uncommon problem.
Photoshop CC and Lightroom are great, but the CC desktop app is garbage.  Time to start from scratch with this one, Adobe.

  • Why can't I get app updates

When I click on "Check for updates" nothing happens. This started with the most recent upgrade. It never happened before even when there was no update available.

    H Amy ...
You will need to use the same Apple ID and password that was used for the original purchases, (even free apps).
Otherwise, create your own Apple ID and purchase your own.
From the App Store menu bar click Store > Sign In > Create Apple ID

  • After updating to iOS 7 my apps won't update automatically?

I've updated to iOS 7 on my ipad with retina display. After the update I saw that I had 12 updates for my apps. When I went to the App Store, they just disappeared. Any one know how to fix this without searching for each app and  manually updating?

Same problem here on four devices, two of which aren't even running iOS 7. App updates just disappear from the app store app and the app tells me all my apps are up to date when they aren't.
This problem fixed itself on the iPhone 4 this morning after I synced it with iTunes last night.  My iPad 3 is now listing app updates, but it stalls when I try to download them, so I'm updating via iTunes now.
I suspect this is a server problem on Apple's end (I noticed iTunes match isn't working this morning either....). Try syncing your phone with iTunes in the meantime or updating each app individually through the purchased app list (just click on it and you can update on a per app basis).

  • Apps update password anomaly between devices

Why when I tap on apps update does it ask me for a password on ipad but not on iphone? Seems to have changed since iO6!

    It should...
On the iPhone hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
The next time you update apps you should be prompted for your Apple ID.
