Why do itunes want my credit card details

why do itunes want my credit card details to open a account

You don't have to set it up with credit card details if you don't wish to buy content, set payment to none.

  • Why wont iTunes accept my credit card details?

I keep typing in my credit card or debit card details, which I know are correct. Ive tried three different cards, and it keeps saying "Payment method declined". I know there is money in the account. Ideas?

Sounds like a case for the iTunes store support.
Go to http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ and click the blue link next to the green shopping bag. Follow the steps and send the iTunes store support en email explaining your situation. They should be able to look into it.
    Good luck

  • Why I should enter my credit card details if I just want to get free application?

Starting from last month I am unable to download any free application which contains in app purchase service.
Why I should enter my credit card details if I just want to get free application? I am close to go to Android

I see, prepaid card is good solution but I don't want to share my card details at all. I can't download any
application during a month due to this new feature with credit card verification and I am really close to switch
to Nexus and go with Google. I don't want to do it but Apple forces me.

  • I want to download a free app. But iTunes wants my credit card information everytime and I get declined. Why and how do I fix it.

I want to download a free app. When I sign in then I have to sign in again to iTunes. Then it wants my credit card information as it always does. When I fill it out it says I'm decline and try a different card. Why it do that when the app is free. When first started iTunes I had no problem downloading apps. Why now since I used a card a few times does it ask me for my card information everytime now. Can't download any free apps without being declined.

    Hello Snoweagle57,
It sounds like you are trying to download a free app, and when prompted to enter a credit card it is declined. I would use this article to go into iTunes and change your payment method to None:
Change or remove your payment information from your iTunes Store account (Apple ID)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1918
If you are unable to select None, the following article may help you determine why:
Why can’t I select None when I edit my Apple ID payment information?

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • HT4623 Why does the App Store want my Credit Card details to download a Free App?

In recent months the App Store requests my Credit Card details before it will let me download a Free App. Why is this and am I going to get charged for Free Apps, a few weeks ago my Credit Card was charged $1 for down loading a Free App. Why is this happening? Jeanette143

If you update your billing information, the iTunes Store will place an authorization hold on your payment card account, usually in the amount of 1 USD, to verify your account information. It will be credited back to your account later.

  • I have credit in my itunes account but cannot buy without updating my credit card details. I do not want my credit card details held, what can I do? Thanks

I have credit in my itunes account but cannot purchase anything as it asks me to update expired credit card details - which I do not want to do. All was fine until I updated to IOS 7
    How do I sort this?
    Thanks

The iTunes Store sometimes requires a credit card to check that an account is valid, but shouldn’t normally charge purchases to it(except for gifts) while there’s sufficient iTunes Store credit.

  • HT3702 I have been keep charged by iTunes amounts which I never download , also iTunes got my credit cards details , please help me how can I stop this events.thanks sinna

    Dear sir
I have been charged by apple iTunes with out I download thinks' and how do I remove my credit card detailed from my apple iTunes account, thanks please help me.

You've checked the purchase history on your account via the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes, and have you made any in-app purchases or have any auto-renewing subscriptions ?  If not and you haven't added or changed your credit card details (when you do then a small temporary store holding charge may be applied to check that the details are correct and valid, which should disappear within a few days) then you can contact iTunes Support via this page (we are fellow users on these forums) : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • ITunes wants a credit card

We set up our school iTunes account with a $50 gift card number, not a credit card since we don't have a school credit card. We used the first card successfully and I entered a new card number yesterday to update our iPod software to 3.1. The new amount of the card shows next to our account names in the iTunes Store but I can't proceed because it keeps saying my account information has changed and sends me back to the page to put in credit card information. If I put my personal account info in, will iTunes charge purchases to my account or to the gift card balance? iTunes support is non-existent and now they have our $50 and I can't use it.

Is this the first time that you've tried to download something with the account ? If it is then unless the instructions on this page are followed when creating an account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
then credit card details will need to be entered before the account can be used to download any item from the store.
If you are getting a prompt to review the account then you could see if this post by mountaingoatgirl lets you do so without needing to enter credit card details : https://discussions.apple.com/message/24303054#24303054
If not then you will need to enter credit card details, you should be able to remove them after entering them.

  • I keep getting mail from Apple about validating my account and now I need to sanitize my email. Is this a hoax as they want my credit card details

I have been receiving email supposedly from apple asking me to validate my account. I ignored as I thought they were a hoax as they wanted me to verify my CC details. Now I'm getting mail saying I'm transmitting virsus mitting viruses and I need to verify my credit card details.??  Is this real or hoax as it also saying if I don't it will lead to permanent deactivation immediately. HELP

It is absolutely a fake. Do not, I repeat do not, respond to these emails in any way. You can report them to Apple if you wish:
    [email protected]
but there's little or nothing they can do about such scams so it's probably not worth the effort and you can just delete the fakes.
    Regards.

There's probably some blocks on your account (credit card and iTunes). Best to contact both and have them check your accounts.

  • Why does itunes charge my credit card when I still have itunes credit on my account?

I have a credit on my itunes account but each time my wife or I purchase something on itunes or the App Store, it defaults and charges my credit card? I have a credit that never gets used? Help!

Either the credit's not applicable to that purchase(as opposed to iTunes Store credit, individual song credits can't be used on album purchases), or something's wrong on Apple's servers. If needed, click here and contact the iTunes Store staff.

I got $ 200.00 dollar in iTunes credits but cannot purchase anything . Please help .

Eric... this is a user to user forum, not Apple.
Try this...  launch iTunes on your computer. From the menu bar click Store / Authorize This Computer
See if you can download apps on your iPhone now.
    If not, contact iTunes Billing:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/
Click: iTunes Store Account & Billing / Billing Inquiries / Email Us
iTunes Store: How to redeem an iTunes Gift Card
iTunes Store: Invalid, inactive, or illegible codes
