Why do most of my stacks come ungrouped when I make changes to other files in the same folder?
I have a folder of about 3000 graphics and photos that I use for work. I've meticulously organized them all by using unique file names, keywords, and sorting. However, when I make changes to a set of files (especially using the batch rename tool), a large percentage, even a majority, of the other stacks in the folder come ungrouped.
This has been happening to me for several months, and so far I can't see any type of order or factor that makes certain files come ungrouped. Many times, it's the same files that come ungrouped, but in addition to those, there will be other random stacks that I lose. My stacks are only a few files big (each stack is comprised of the same picture in different file types) and with how many files I have, this has become seriously detrimental to my workflow and efficiency. Anywhere from 20-70 stacks will become ungrouped. I almost always have my files sorted by filename, and when I rename files using batch rename, I give them such similar names that I'd think there would be no reason for the rest of my files to come ungrouped. For example, if there are three files I want to group, I will give them a name like background_001, background_002, and background_003. After I do this, I'll discover that my stacks with names like template_(sequence number) and UI_(sequence number) have come ungrouped. It will do this with pages and pages of stacks at the same time, regardless of how I have the files / stacks sorted. It doesn't happen everytime I rename a batch, either. I just created 10 batches of 3 like-named files each, and after this last batch, about a hundred files came ungrouped.
I understand that doing things like changing the sorting method of files, or renaming a file so that it's thrown in the middle of a stack, will ungroup my stacks. I don't think I'm doing any of these things (I've been trying desperately to make sure I don't change the sorting method of my files or do anything to a file that might have an effect like this). I don't use ratings or color labels in these folders, the only tools I use are batch rename, keywords, and stacks.
Is there any way to preserve my stacks so this stops happening in the future, or I can correct it when it does?
This is my first time posting here, so I'm sorry, I re-read my post several times and honestly did think I provided enough information, but you're right, it wasn't the right kind. So please (continue to) bear with me, I'm really not trying to be ignorant. I honestly assumed the issue was something I was doing wrong in Bridge, nothing to do with my computer specs.

I work with jpg, psd, ai, svg, and pdf files. Most of my stacks are three different file types of the same image, usually jpg, psd/ai, and pdf.
I have not recieved any error messages
I am not having issues opening raw files, I am not having printing issues, I have listed the troubleshooting steps I have taken.
Is there any information you need that I missed? I'm trying not to be a dingus, but I'll have to ask you to be patient with me in the meantime. I haven't ever looked up half the hardware/software details that were suggested and I don't know how to off the top of my head, so I provided what I already knew how to

Why are most of my keywords not included when I export images?
Since starting with Lightroom 1, I've entered keywords into either of the two fields between "keyword tags" and "keyword suggestions" in the keywording panel. I was unaware that some keywords are more equal than others, or that Lightroom offered (or has added?) hierarchy support.
I recently stumbled into the news (to me) that Lightroom tags can be organized into a hierarchy, so I exported my keywords to a text file to examine. I hadn't unwittingly created any hierarchies, but an astounding fraction of the keywords were within square brackets. Sure enough, if I export an image, keywords within square brackets are omitted from the output (jpeg) file. How nice. Since I began with Lightroom 1, I've added nearly 1600 keywords.. Too bad most of them are coded wrong... so as not to accompany output that I create.
1. What was I supposed to do, as a photographer beginning to use Lightroom, to enter keywords simply but reliably: what I type is what I get? I'd expected that's what the "just type here" interface would provide.
I especially dislike obtaining erratic results: most keywords are in square brackets, but a few are not. Of course, when I use a simplified interface, I should expect not to have access to some of the options or features. However, I shouldn't inadvertently trigger undocumented behavior.
2. Does the Adobe reference help system say how to enter keywords simply and reliably, in its documentation of the keywording panel? I don't find my answer under the Keywords topic, within Home / Using Photoshop Lightroom 3 / Organizing photos in the catalog.
(I NOW realize that the instructions for the "Create/Edit keyword tags" dialog mention exporting. However, that's not the method I was using.)

I've entered keywords for several years of using Lightroom. Suddenly, this week, I find that most (yet not all) of them have the attribute of "don't include the keyword in an exported file's metadata." I never intended to ask for that; I thought all keywords will stay with the file and its offspring, and that's what I wanted.
So I'm asking:
1. What did I do "wrong" to induce Lightroom to give the keywords that attribute? I never intended to ask it to.
2. Where does Adobe document how to enter keywords reliably so that they stay with the file on output? I can't find that Adobe does.

I did export the keywords into such a list: most keywords in the plain-text list have square brackets surrounding them, indicating keywords that will be omitted from metadata of any image that Lightroom exports.
My concern is not that the brackets are there. They encode the attribute of "don't include the keyword in an exported file's metadata," and recognizing that attribute concerns me.

I have shared a calendar with my wife aptely called "Home" to which every time I update or rearrange something she gets an email, I understand that this is quite useful for informing her of any changes but when she makes changes I receive no notifications/email. The problem I/she has is that when updating especially on the mac I change alot of things very quickly and she ends up with a flooded inbox informing her of small changes such as I've changed the time by half an hour or maybe a spelling has changed, does anybody out there know how to turn off the emails, we both regulary check the notifications bar on our ios devices and can see whats planned for the day etc so why burden the servers in the sky sending one way emails?? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated guys
OK, I don't have the exact same problem, but here are a few things you could try.
1. Go to www.icloud.com and login. Select your calendar from the icons and you will then see the cogwheel in the top right corner. Click on it and enter your settings. Under ADVANCED, there is a tick box saying "Send me a copy of event invitations and updates"
2. On the shared calendar on the left hand side of the calendar you are in, it should show a list of your calendars. The shared ones are green whilst the others are just white/transparent - Click on the green one of the calendar that is being shared (The clarify, this needs to be done within your wifes icloud, not yours and she needs to click your "Home" calendar green bit). This opens up the Tick box "Email me when this calendar changes" - deselect this.

For what its worth, here is my problem. I keep getting invitations for all my girlfriends new appointments. They are coming up in the same invitations box that you get notified in when someone invites you to a lunch where you select reject, accept etc. But these just have an OK select button. I can't seem to find anything that rectifys this, and it has only happened since I upgraded to Mountain Lion, but my girlfriend has not.
There is nothing on the web to describe this problem so far and I have gone through every setting trying to rectify it. If anyone can help on this one, that'd be great. -

Why are some jpg images scrambled when they appear in my screen saver? The same images look fine in Preview and Finder. Some images appear scrambled in the screen saver 'preview' window and the actual screen saver. Other jpg images look fine.
The desktop image is fine, taken from the exact same pool of jpg photos. However, as soon as the slide show screen saver comes on, the images are scrambled. What is it about the apple screen saver algorithm that scrambles the pics?

some music files do not show up in google play music app library. I did clear cache/data and restarted phone. The music is stored on the SD card. Most of the music in the library is in the same folder on the sd card. I can play the song from file manager, but it still is not in the music library in play music.
Cyndi6858, help is here! We'd be happy to help figure this out. Just to be sure though, the Droid Maxx should not have an SD card. Is this the Droid Razr Maxx? How did you add the music to the device? Are you able to see the files and folders located on the SD card or device when plugged in?

Why do manually added mp3s in the Podcasts app all show up in the same folder?
Let me explain!
I like to download lectures and talks and audio books from other sources than iTunes.
I like to add these mp3 files to iTunes, change the Media type of them from Music to Podcast, and transfer them to my iPod Touch. This is so I will more easily know which ones have been listened to and can be removed.
This worked (and works) well in the Music app. Everything was separated into folders based on what album name I had manually assigned to the ID3 tags of the files.
But in the Podcast app, all of these files are now lumped into one folder.
I currently have eight un-listened-to episodes of Philip K. Dick's Valis on my iPod Touch. But the folder shows a count of 106 unheard episodes in relation to this audio book, because it lumps all of my other manually added podcast media tracks into the same folder.
Why is this?
Why does the Podcasts app refuse to let me separate manually added files into individual folders based on album information?
Had the My Stations feature let me populate its playlists in a more rational manner, and also allowed me to manually change the running order of the tracks (something which only seems to be possible in the On-The-Go playlist), I would not think that this omission was such an annoyance.
I have been searching for months for mentions of this problem, but I have not seen a single one, and so I have finally decided to make my own thread.
Let me know if the nature of my problem remains unclear.

When I plug my phone in and attempt to sync it with iTunes and click on "Steven's iPhone" under "Devices" the display to the right just says "loading..." and it stays like that for hours. Nothing happens.
As far as I can tell, there is literally no way for me to delete the photos from my iPhone and I therefore, cannot upgrade to the newest software, download new apps, etc. -
For iTunes Match, how come some songs "match" on an album and other songs on the same album "upload" without matching? All songs are available on iTunes. I don't get it! Any way to manually match songs that iTunes apparently can't match? I have hundreds in this unmatched state.

You aren't comparing like with like.
The main task that Shazam has is to identify the name or a track and the artist. I believe that it suggests the album as well, but if it gets that wrong then it doesn't really matter too much.
With iTunes Match, getting the album (i.e. identifying which version it is) is much more important. If it gets that wrong then it breaks up the flow of an album. This makes the task that match has very much harder.
In fact, there is a strong argument to say that currently the problem iTunes has is that it is matching too many songs, resulting in matches from different albums.
I'm sure that match is not struggling to identify whether it has a song or not, but whether it has the correct version of a song. When you introduce different masterings into the process then, depending on the thresholds set, it is probably correct in concluding that it hasn't got a particular version, even if you think it has.
The solution would appear to me to be a tweaking of the matching thresholds along with the ability to force an upload, but we just don't know what restrictions they have (remember that if Shazam gets it wrong the it doesn't present you with a copy of a new track that you didn't have previously). It is almost certainly not just a case of improving their technology. -
Ever since installing iCloud and Lion my computer is slow or freezes. The color wheel comes on and My work stops. I have only a small window of time where my computers will function normally during the day. I know many others that have the same problem. I'll get 20-30 minutes of work done and then a sync or something comes on, the color wheel of death shows up, and my productivity is shot. I have to shut the computer down the hard way! when it comes back up, it is still either frozen or slow. I've checked in at the genius bar and all they say is that there have been some problems that Apple is trying to fix. It effects Mail, Contacts, Safari, Calendar....yeah, pretty much everything. My iPhone and iPad are not effected as much so I end up doing what I can with them. I've seen the blogs out there and understand that many have the same problem. I have been waiting to read about a fix but I have found nothing! Any ideas?
Not enough free space on the startup disk can slow the system down.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.
For startup issues... open System Preferences > Users & Groups - Login Items. Delete any apps listed there then restart your mac.
And disable the Lion "resume" feature.
Open System Preferences > General
Deselect: Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps
And Spotlight may be indexing... you can turn that off > Turning Off Spotlight | Mac Tricks And Tips -
The update itunes software box comes up when I open itunes, I click to download, the box disappears and it never starts the download. Whats wrong?

why do we have to buy mountain lion when we bought lion? Others who didn't purchase lion don't have to pay for it to move to mountain lion.
As far as I know the only people not having to pay for Mountain Lion are the ones that have purchased a apple computer after the 4th of june or something. These people get a free upgrade. All others will have to pay for a copy of Mountian Lion.
Do you maybe have a source, which states that others don't have to pay for it, where people that have bought Lion do have to pay?

What you are seeing is two of the same folder showing up in LR, but their files within each are different. How can I combine these folders so that they correctly show the architecture of my hard drive as one folder?
Additionally, how do I prevent this in the future?

I'm doing something wrong and I don't know what it could possibly be as I seem to be following your instructions very closely. Here are your instructions with my questions in Red:
How to consolidate:
"Add Parent Folder" on all the folders to be consolidated, so you end up with as few top level folders as possible So, on both sets of "2010" I right click and hit Add Parent Folder so now they both have "Lightroom" as the parent folder
On all of the top level folders under a "non strategic" drive, choose "Update Folder Location ..."
Navigate to the folder on the network share through the path which you want to use in the future (one of the three described above) After I right click, I only have one option... to navigate in my Mac Finder to where the "Lightroom" (Parent) folder is
Now LR will (rightly so) tell you that the selected folder already exists in LR and asks you whether you want to combine the two folders
After I do all of the above things don't go exactly as planned. Do you know if your method only works for PC's? Does anyone know of a Mac solution that will work without disturbing the metdata and image changes? -

Hey. I have recently made an update on my daughters iMac, particularly the update OS X 10.9.4, when finished, its still asking for update and the same update stills remarked as ready in the apple update menu and remarked as 1 to go at the App store app. Why doesn't stop asking for update when its done like 5 times or more? If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. -
