Why do my backups take up so much icloud storage if i'm only backing up photos?

I constantly get the notification that my "storage is almost full." I have gone into iCloud settings and turned off and deleted the data and backup data for every app on my phone (5s) except for Photos, and it still says that 4.6 GB of iCloud storage are being taken up by my backups. Furthermore, when I log into iCloud on my computer and try to access photos, or anything for that matter, there's nothing there. Nothing. Everything is empty, despite the fact that I'm supposedly backing up 4.6 GB of data onto my iCloud? I have literally no idea where all of this data is supposed to be going if it's not showing up anywhere. Help would be appreciated.

Have you tried https://www.icloud.com/#photos?

My iPad and iPhone4s both state "NOT ENOUGH STORAGE" and can't backup due to not enough iCloud storage available in the cloud.
I have sync my phone to my pc using itunes, but I still get the msg on the phone - could it be that the ipad and phone both receive the same mail?  I did go into Settings - icloud - and shut off Mail on phone - I will sync the iPad as well - both devices receive my mail as well as Acer pc.?  thank you -

Not having enough storage in your iCloud account isn't caused by using your iCloud email account on your device.  It may be caused by having lots of email in your account though.
Go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage to see what is taking up the space in your account.

  • I have iphone 32gb how much icloud  storage y need

I have iphone 32gb how much icloud storage i need?

Music on your phone is either purchased from iTunes or synced from a computer. If from iTunes, it doesn't use your iCloud allocation and can be redownloaded from the store if necessary, if from your computer then it is already elsewhere.
I'm not suggesting your use will be identical to mine but I have the 32 GB phone I use less than 1 GB for syncing documents and data, however I back up to iTunes rather than iCloud, but if I did back up to iCloud, I'd need about 4 GB.

  • How do I know how much iCloud storage I need?

How do I know how much iCloud storage I need?  I bought 10 GB and it said not enough, I bought 25 GB and it still says not enough.  I'm only backing up Contacts, Calendars, Photo Stream & Find my iPhone.

Are you sure it's storage on icloud that you're getting messages about, and not your device.  If your device's memory is getting full, try deleting video, photos (after syncing them to a computer - but you should always be doing that), and any other large files and try doing whatever you were doing that led to those errors/warnings.
It would also help if you told us exactly what operation(s) led to the warnings.

  • HT4858 Photos take up too much iCloud data

I've deleted most photos from my Camera Roll and my Photo Stream, I only have 114 photos altogether now, but the photos are still taking up 4.5GB of my iCloud data, can anyone explain why?

The only photos stored on icloud are...
    1) photos in the camera roll that are included in a backup to icloud.  But you can turn off backups of such photos.
Settings>icloud>Storage & Backups>Manage Storage,  tap the device's name and on the next screen, be sure Camera Roll is turned OFF if you don't want to store photos in a backup.
    2) Photos stored in photo stream.  But these do not count against your storage, so it doesn't matter.
That's it.  There are no other photos on icloud that you can remove.

  • HT201318 How do you know how much icloud storage you need?

I can't find this information anywhere. The only way I know to do this would be to buy the biggest storage plan and see how much memory is used and then downgrade

You would be better off doing it the other way around: start with the free 5GB storage and then purchase more storage if you need it.  (It's highly unusual that you would need the largest storage plan, unless you are backing up and syncing data to the same account with multiple iOS devices.)

  • Why is 7.1 update using 1GB of iCloud storage

After I installed iOS7.1 my iCloud storage jumped 1GB. I've turned off and deleated everyting and it's still showing 1GB being used. Has anyone else noticed this? Can it be fixed?

Your devices have settings and preferences to be backed up, like wallpapers, home screen layouts, etc. These take up space even if you choose to back up NO apps.
Also, your contacts, calendars and iCloud emails count against your storage as well.
Last but not least, if you use a Mac, open Finder and hit command shift G, type in ~\Library and go to mobile document folder. If you have accidentally created some folder (not by an iOS/Mac app), the content inside counts against storage, but won't show up anywhere on Sorage Mngment.

  • Why my computer backup takes forever?

It use to take less than an hour to back up my 27 Go, on the last backup everything went well except that time machine informe me that it had to erase the oldest backup since my unit was full. Now yesterday I started up another backup and after 5 hours there was only 7 Go backed up, I stopped it and then took upon myself to free more space on the unit before starting a new back up session. After more than 12 hours now, the backup is even slower 3.77 Go only???
Have anything like this happen to you before? What should I be looking for to correct this problem?

Have you applied the 10.7.5 Supplemental Update http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1599? That fixes a Time Machine/Spotlight slowdown issue.

RMAN does a backup of all formatted blocks --- even if rows have been deleted and the blocks are "logically empty".  expdp, obviously, does not backup deleted rows.  Similarly, if you've created a table and then subsequently truncated it, the blocks would remain formatted and be candidates for RMAN Backups.  Truncated tables would be "empty" and would result in 0 rows exported.
So, you'd have this issue if you've deleted a large number of rows and/or issued truncates.

  • HT5527 Can anyone help me locate the fabled "settings" to see how much icloud storage I've used?

I was a mobileme person. They changed things, there was some talk of complimentary storage. Now there are messages saying this will end. I am unable to locate the "settings" section anywhere in order to check how much storage I have used. I only have a laptop, no iphone, no ipad. Simple person but not stupid. Why is it all so complicated. Have looked at questions and answers - none seem to show exactly where this fabled icloud "setting" icon is. I've done software updates. My apple icon does not have 'settings' under its menu. Please help. I do not want to pay any money just so that I can access my email and retrieve fiels from a few years ago. Many thanks. I thought I'd upgraded to mountain lion - I sure paid for it but now it doesn't seem to have happened. Fed up and in the middle of a big project.

If you mean iCloud is grayed out in Settings, check Settings>General>Restrictions>Accounts (near the bottom); make sure it's set to Allow Changes.

  • How long should it take to update increased iCloud storage I have purchased

    Hi
I have purchased additional I cloud storage but is not reflected in storage volume. Trying to store info/ data but still states I only have 5 mb of free storage ??

The storage on your phone cannot be increased.
iCloud is a service which syncs your information and backs up your data.   It will backup up to 5 GB of data free.
If your phone is out of room, you have to delete contents to make room.

  • My iphone 4s keeps saying it does not have enough icloud storage and cannot be backed up. When I go to icloud storage and backup, it says that I have 5.0 GB of total storage and 5.0 GB of available storage.

My iphone 4s keeps saying it does not have enough icloud storage and icloud cannot be backed up. When I go to icloud Storage & Backup in my settings, it says that I have 5.0 GB total and 5.0 GB available. The only thing I have selected, at this point, to be backed up are my contacts and the Find My iPhone app. Why does it always say I have no icloud storage available when I have ALL of the icloud storage available?!

It says that my next backup size is 7.3 GB, but I have no idea why, because the only thing selected is the Find iPhone app, which takes up 0.2 KB...How do I get rid of whatever it THINKS it's backing up?
