Why do my contacts disappear (using iphone 4s)?

Why do my contacts keep disappearing!  I use ICloud to save my contacts but I have Verizon wireless backup.  Could these two interfere with each other and make random contacts disappear??
The only thing in common on the contacts that I have noticed is that I have not used them recently.
Help!

This happens because when you sync them with iCloud they are moved from your phone to the iCloud server.  If you turn off iCloud you are disconnecting your device from the server so it can no longer access your contacts (or other iCloud data).
If you no longer want to sync your contacts with iCloud, go to Settings>iCloud, turn Contacts off and choose Keep on My iPhone.  That will keep a copy of your contact on your phone.

How can I see from my contact who use iphone (ios 5) for contact with imessage?

Well, let take the personal service point of view : let say, I had two calendars on my iCloud account : one for work, one for my leisure activities.
On my MacBook Pro that I use at home as well as at my office, I would want the two calendars to show and since I am alone in my office, I would want the alerts for both my work and my leisure activities to show (and make a sound at the same time).
But on my iPad that I only use at home, I would only want my leisure activities alerts to show (and make a sound) and on my iPhone that I only use for work, I would only want my work alerts to show (and make a sound).
That is a personal service that simply does not work.
Why would Apple give us the opportunity to hide some calendars on certain devices but not allow us, on these same devices, to switch off the alerts linked to these calendars that we have chosen to hide ? Why having alerts of calendars that do not even show on these devices ?
And I am an Apple fan since 1984, since the very first Mac. I still do believe Macs and Apple devices and/or software (iOS, OS X and others...) are much better and much more efficient than " Microsoft, Windows, Google and other Android devices and software.
But that does not mean everything's perfect (and I find that quite normal).
Nevertheless, in this case, letting alerts make a sound on a device where a specific calendar is not shown, that does not make any sense : when uncheking those calendars, the alerts linked to those calendars should be automatically switch off (but alerts should be able to work on the calendars that are shown.)

  • Why have my contacts disappeared?

I've got an iPhone 4s running OS 7.0.6. Today my contacts disappeared. I have always had my iCloud backup enabled and I've used it to restore on previous occasions, but when I went to the settings it was disabled. Is there any reasone why this would happen? Is there anything I can do to restore the contacts? I'm trying to upgrade my iTunes to see if I can restore from there, but in the meantime I'd appreciate any advice on what I can do.
    Thanks
    Jane

    Hello,
When I went to iCloud to restore the deleted contact it had been turned off (I'm sure it was on). I deleted the iCloud account and added it again.  When I synced the contacts were still lost.  I turned on and off the contact back up 4 times and on the last time the contacts reappeared. The favourites list is still not correct but at least the contacts are back.
I'm a little freaked out by this as I thought I could count on iCloud and Apple to keep my info safe.  Still at least I recovered most of the data.

  • New contacts disappear in IPhone 5

I'm adding new contacts to my iPhone 5 and after 2 min they disappear. Somebody has experience this situation?

I have been having the same problem. I had a list of money owed to me by my cousin and after he would pay some off I would put it in my notes. I had that list for months. All if a sudden it was gone one day, out of many other notes I had around it too. Before and after. I accused him of deleting it. But today I made a check list of things I needed to do, and throughout the day I was simply deleting things off the list, I don't normally do that I usually just leave a dash or check mark. But I deleted a few, still had a bunch of things on my list. Open the phone later to check and the note is gone, so are a bunch of notes. All the way back to the previous month. As if I had not taken any notes this month. Luckily my iPad is synced up with my iPhone 5 on the cloud and I have my other notes there for this month. However the list with my cousins expenditures were gone on the iPad as well as my phone. What a glitched out app. Don't know what to do about that, may start using google docs or something.

  • Why have my contacts on my iphone diappeared?

I used contacts on my iphone yesterday am and everything was fine. I tried to access them later in the day and they were gone totally. Why?

Don't know why. I haven't experienced the same in nearly 6 years of iPhone use.
Are you syncing contacts direct with a supported address book app on your computer via the iTunes sync process, or over the air with an email account that supports it such as with an Apple iCloud account, a Gmail or Yahoo account, or with a company Exchange account?

  • All contacts disappeared on iPhone - Can't restore from backup, iCloud now gone too

Just sitting and watching TV and having some minor text conversations on my phone (5S).. Next thing I know a message pops up without a name and the +1 area code an number.. The message is from the same person and number I was just texting. Strange I thought.. Pulled up my contacts and "no contacts" is displayed. Checked my settings.. iCloud contacts are still enabled.. reset my phone.. reset network settings.. nothing helped.. I thought, no big deal.. I backup every night.
First time restoring from backup, I saw all the contacts there and thought i was in the clear.. 10 seconds later, they disappear before my eyes! Getting very frustrated i tried an older backup. They don't even show up. I log into iCloud on my laptop and they are there for 2-3 seconds and disappear.
I've been using iPhone's since the original and have the new phone every year.. I pretty good with these phones, but this has me stumped/very frustrated. Has anyone experienced this or found a solution? I'm out all my contacts from the last 8 years.. Thinking I never had to worry because I've backed up!
    Any help is greatly appreciated!!
    Ryan

I don't think that is the case.. I noticed they were there when I would first complete a restore from backup but as soon as my apps started loading they would disappear again.
I got them back by immediately turning on airplane mode as soon as I completed the restore. I the turned off iCloud sync and selected keep contacts on this phone. turned iCloud back on and selected merge contacts.
First time I tried that it worked for a minute until the apps started to update again, I believe it might have been WhatsApp, then, what do you know, contacts gone again. I repeated the process and, this time, I deleted all my apps. Seems to be working ok now. All contacts have stayed.
Is it possible that an auto update for an app that accesses your contacts could have a bug that does this? Whatever it was, I am very glad I got them back.

  • Contacts disappear from iPhone and then reappear

Contacts disappear on my iPhone but are still on my Mac Mini.  When I enter them again on the iPhone they magically reappear.  Why is this happening?

I synced my iPhone today and lost all contacts on the iPhone and my iMac address book. My iCal is still working, though. I spent an hour on the phone with an Apple Care tech and I was unable to recover anything. We even checked my old 20 gig 2nd generation iPod by going to "disk mode" but I didn't have any contact data stored in it. Is there a "disk mode" for the iPhone?
I didn't back up my contacts in Address Book (go to File - Back Up Address Book) so I know I'm out of luck and that I should probably go get Leopard for the "Time Machine" application. At least Apple gets to make some more $ off me.

  • Why did all contacts disappear when I turned on iCloud?

Yesterday I turned on iCloud for my contact info, and when I tried to access my contacts some hours later, discovered that all my contacts disappeared from my iPhone4.
When I turned off iCloud for my contacts (iCloud is still on for other stuff) my contacts immediately reappeared.
    What gives?

Thanks for the advice, but after this and other hassles, I've decided to not use iCloud in any way.  I'm sticking with the old way of syncing my iphone via the cable and iTunes as well.  Suits me just fine.
Other than not providing a detailed manual on iOS5 in general, and iCloud in particular, I'm not blaming Apple here.  I used to be on top of my Mac and Apple devices, but somewhere along the road I got left behind, and I just don't have the time anymore to catch up, especially when that means doing so by trial and error.
I'm still an avid fanboy of my Apple computer, iPhone and recently Apple TV.  I'm sure iCloud is wonderful, but having never successfully used it, I don't miss it.
    Thanks again.

  • Why do my contacts disappear when i turn my icloud off?

I don't know that much about icloud but i signed into it anyway and have it on. and one day i though no point in having it on so i turned icloud off and the next day i noticed all my contacts where gone. so i paniced. i tried the back up from my computer and that didn't work. i went to setting > contacts and then import froim sim that did nothing so i then re signed into icloud again and they all came back.
I want to turn icloud off but i can't cause then all my contacts disappear.

This happens because when you sync them with iCloud they are moved from your phone to the iCloud server.  If you turn off iCloud you are disconnecting your device from the server so it can no longer access your contacts (or other iCloud data).

  • Why have my contacts disappeared and been replaced with some Facebook friend names?

A few days ago, all of my contacts disappeared and were replaced by the names of SOME of my Facebook friends.  None of these have any telephone contact information, it's all email addresses associated with those Facebook friends. For instance, my husband's name, emails and phone numbers were all deleted from my contacts - help!

Look under iTunes>Preferences>Devices...is there a backup listed for her phone? First thing done when you sync is an iPhone backup. If you have not synced since screwing her phone up, restoring from that backup(if it exists) should restore her content. Do not sync after you restore her phone, eject it. So, first disable auto-sync on that same device pane in iTunes before you proceed. If this doesn't work, is your sister bigger than you? If so, run 'cause her data is gone .

  • All Contacts disappear from iPhone -- temporarily

I have a recurring problem with my iPhone which occurred under 3.0 and now under 3.1, and even after a "restore as new phone" and replacement of the SIM card: occasionally, I'll go into the iPhone Contacts app and it will be empty -- no contacts at all, even if they were there minutes earlier. They eventually reappear after a reboot (without my doing any kind of "restore" -- I sync my contacts wirelessly over MobileMe). Yesterday, for example, I opened up my Contacts app to make a call; the contacts were all there, and I tapped on a particular contact to call him, and instead of his contact details being displayed, all my contacts disappeared. i rebooted and they reappeared.
I have asked about this at the Genius Bar and the Genius said it was happening because I was in an area with no cell signal, and that since I sync wirelessly with MobileMe, my contacts will disappear when I have no cell signal. However, that doesn't make sense, since my contacts do not disappear when I put the iPhone into Airplane Mode (in which case by definition there is no signal) or when the phone actually displays "No Signal" at the top of the screen. And when it happened yesterday, I had 5 bars in the signal display.
    So I have several questions:
    (a) has anyone else experienced this?
    (b) does anyone have any ideas on solving it?
    (c) does anyone think the Genius Bar explanation makes sense?

I am facing the same problem. my Contacts names disappear . Phone number is what just remains.
However I do not think it is a Genius Problem. OR it is not even a problem of no cell phone coverage.
Problems like these are usually OS Problems. So I think 3.1 is with full of bugs.
    2) I dont know how to solve it. looking for soultion

  • Why won't contacts sync with iphone

I'm loosing the will to live and I've spent hours trawling through the huge amount of fixes suggested on various sites but to no avail. I run a macbook pro, OSX10.6.8, Itunes 10.4 and the software on the iphone was updated today. Syncing with iTunes worked fine up until about 3 weeks ago - I don't know what happend but it just stopped. If I delete all the contacts in the mac address book (310) and run a sync nothing changes on the 472 iphone contacts. All the settings appear to be correct in the preferences. If I check the box to stop syncing contacts and delete all 472 contacts on the phone - they all dissapear. When I reset the sync contacts check box and check the "replace all the contacts on this phone during the next sync" box I get all 472 back again. Can anybody offer any help at all please before I slash my wrists!!

Clearly it doesn't work as I imagine! But I still don't understand what you mean. I'm not saying that I don't like Google's instructions,- what makes you say that?  I'm saying that I think I've already followed them to the letter. How have I not? What else, exactly, do I need to do? Talk me through an example, please.
"You have added a data conduit between Google and your phone. But you have not put anything IN that conduit, save the data Google already has."
What I want to put into it is the contact data aleady on my phone (and in icloud). Google's instruction seems to say that to put something in the conduit, I just have to open Contacts on the iphone. Clearly that's not correct. So what do I do?
Here's what I'm refering to in Goolge's instructions:
"If you're using iOS 5 or iOS 6, follow these steps to set up contact syncing with Google Contacts:
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account... > Other > Add CardDAV Account.
Enter the following information in the fields:
    Server: google.com
User Name: your full Google email address
    Password: your Google account password
Tap Next at the top of the screen to complete the setup.
After you have completed the setup, open the Contacts app on your device. Syncing should begin automatically."
The last sentence seems to me to mean that opening Contacts will "put someting in the conduit".
