Why do my Digital copies not play in iTunes

I have the digital copy of the disc and iTunes imports the file with no problems, it synchs with my iPad 2 and plays perfectly on there but the movie will not play in iTunes. There is no sound or picture (just black screen). The files are .m4v and play perfectly in Quick Time but not in VLC Media Player. My operating system is Windows Vista.

You need to be a lot more specific.
Songs do not magically appear in Playlists, you put them there. However, songs may appear in Smart Playlists, if the songs meet the rules for that Playlist. What are these Playlists, why would you expect purchased songs to appear in them?

    This is extremely frustrating. I bought the new Lord of the Rings on Blue Ray and they came with a digital copy. I downloaded the digital copy from Itunes and now when I go to play it, it only shows a gray screen and no sound. The timer bar is moving like the movie is playing, but no video or sound.
    I searched and found a similar thread here, but nothing in it worked.
    - I have deathorized and authorized my computer again
    - I have deauthorized, restarted iTunes and then authorized the computer
    - I have the latest and greatest version of iTunes, quicktime, and every other piece of software I own
    - The videos play fine on my iphone, but not in iTunes on my iMac.

    I have contacted Apple support and they have confirmed that this is a know issue. I get the same gray screen, but oddly enough I can play old movies that I added a couple of months ago.
    Apple support had me try and play the movies in other players with the same result. So it seems the authentication process that happens when you enter in the authorization code is broken and is not copying the digital movie properly to the computer.
    Looks like we will have to wait for an update from Apple before this gets fixed.

    About 5 days ago for no apparent reason at all, about
    7000 songs which i have collected over a number of
    years has just decided that it wont play in ITUNES or
    in any other of my media players. When you click on
    Play over a song nothing happens. The play icon
    doesnt even come up on the screen.
    Steps I have taken so far are:
    1 - Remove all tracks from ITUNES and then re-add the
    folder where all the songs are. This has obviously
    removed all songs, but when I have re-added the
    folder , it has added about 650 tracks back on to the
    playlist. These 650 tracks will play. This leaves
    approx 6400 tracks that it wont play.
    By the way all the songs on my PC are MP3 type and I
    have had no problem playing any of them until last
    week.
    2 - I have re-installed ITUNES and reinstalled
    Quicktime and that has not worked.
    3 - All of my songs are backed up on to a External
    Hard Drive. I have tried to restore the songs and
    also play them directly from the external hard drive.
    I get the same problem when I do this.
    4 - I have enabled and allowed all permissions for
    the account that I am running the PC from.
    I am guessing there must be some settnig or Registry
    Key that is blocking me playing the tracks from the
    PC. I have also tried to launch the songs in Media
    Player and Sonic stage but thsi has not played
    either.
    All the tracks are in the folder structure as they
    were before so I know they are there. I just need to
    somehow unlock them.......
    If anyone has any ideas, I would be very grateful as
    I dont want to lose my entire music collection.
    Also I cannot find anyweher on here that is a Support
    number or email address for Apple as this is an
    ITUNES issue and they should be resolving it for
    me!!!!

    Thanks for the quick reply, and sorry for the late response. I'm trying to do this for my mum on her computer, but I don't live with her, so it can be hard for me to find the spare time to get to her place.
    Okay, let me start by listing a few things in dot points:
    - Adobe Digital Editions does not recognise the device. There doesn't even appear to be any menu options for a "device" anywhere in the program.
    - When I connect the device to the computer, the screen lights up and the word "USB" appears on it, so it is definitely noting the PC connection. However, no device appears in "My Computer" (running Windows XP). Tried using "Add Devices", but it couldn't find anything.
    - Yellowstone, the brand, appears to be a product of JB Hifi, the store she purchased it from, and has no website or online software/drivers.
    - I downloaded Calibre as you said. It seems a lot cheaper, but has easier to read options. However, it still won't let me load to my device (the text is greyed-out). I assume this means the program is not recognising the device either.
    Not sure what to do now, kinda run out of ideas. Any more help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Purchased Movies (with Extras) will not Play in iTunes

    So I have OS 10.7.4 and the most current version of iTunes.  Lately, my purchased movies will not play in iTunes.  When I double click on them, it goes to play them, but just freezes on a black screen as if paused.  When I hit play, it flashes immediately back to pause.  The chapters are all there (with the corresponding clip from that chapter of the movie).  Ironically, these play fine on our aTV and iDevices where chapters/extras aren't used--this is only a problem on the computer playing through iTunes.   The actual files are present and, as mentioned, they sync just fine to the iPads, etc.  Any thoughts on why this is happening?  Sometimes it would be nice to play them on the computer itself.
    Yes the computer is authorized (and I deauthorized then reauthorized it).  I've "Consolidated Library" and "Checked for Available Downloads".  Also non iTunes purchased movies (those from DVD's I own) ripped in Handbrake work just fine and play.  Also OLDER purchases without the Chapter screen play just fine.

    Regular playlists vs smart playlist does not make a difference. What I noticed is that some videos create this behavior and some not. I created 2 videos and 2 music playlists, one with 2 songs and 2 videos (that I encoded myself with Handbrake). Another list with 2 videos and 2 songs, videos encoded with Handbrake, but that I noticed they triggered the behavior. The first playlist played fine, with no problems. The second one, created the problem. When I look at the video, it is the same type of video (bit rate, audio channels, etc...) I don't see why it would do that.
    Later I will test: playing those videos in question and then selecting songs to see if they play.

    iTunes has recently began corrupting my Music  and some of the Podcasts.  An exclamation mark appears at a random selection of songs - about a thoussanad of them - and they will not play as iTunes says that it cannot locate the file.  This also has happened on a number of Podcasts.  Any one else encountered this?

    This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
    Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
    Alternatively, if you are running Windows (you've posted in iTunes for Windows, but your sig mentions Mac OS X...), and as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes.

    When fist setting up your new iphone you will be asked to log in with an apple id and password. If this did not happen you can then do as you suggested going to settings to itunes and app store and add your apple id login. This apple id login must have already been created for the iphone to accept it. If this apple id is already created but is not being accepted by your iphone you then should shut down your iphone and restart the device.

    If you are updating from iOS 7+ to 7.0.4 then did you have Find My iPod enabled on it ? If you did then it might be asking for the password for your account when you set that 'on'.
