Why do my greyscale photos have pink tinge when saved to PDF? HELP

I have made a booklet in Office Publisher and need to send to the printer today in PDF format, but whenever I save all of the greyscale photos end up having a pink tinge in some areas. This is quite bad considering the whole booklet (except for the cover page) is in greyscale!  I need to get the booklet to the printer as I am on a deadline and am getting desperate.  Is there some sort of colour setting that I need to change?  I am an amateur so I am hoping that it is something simple.

To start with, are you "saving" from Publisher to PDF? Do you have Acrobat? If so, what version?
If you are "saving" you wouldn't be using an Adobe product. If you have Acrobat, try using File>Print and choosing the Adobe PDF printer to see if that works.
The previous poster is correct though. You can always just let your printer know that it should be grayscale and they can fix it up for you without much issue.

Do you have gfxCardStatus installed?  Is your monitor set to "Integrated" or "Discrete".  You want it set to Discrete to drive the external HDMI display.
Try resetting the PRAM and SMC

Are you sure you have a good miniDisplayPort to HDMI cable?
Do you have another HDMI display you can test against (your neighbor's HDMI capable TV).
Do you have friend that can test the cable using their Mac and maybe their TV or a monitor that has HDMI input.

  • Photos not showing up when I make PDFs from Excel 2007 files

I make lists for my newspaper. I am working from home today where I use Excel 2007 and Adobe Acrobat Pro 9. I had to tweak my home Adobe settings to mimic ones I use at work for our newspaper's printer, but other than that, I am doing what I normally do to my files. At work I have Excel 2003 and Adobe 8. I am not sure if it is pro or standard. I use Windows in both locations.
When I go to make the PDF on my home comp, the photos do not show up on the PDF. They print fine from the Excel file. Does anyone have an idea why this might be happening? Thanks!

A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

  • Bug: Can't view photos in a slide when Exporting to PDF viewing files on XP

    Hi,
I'm completely new to the discussion forum.
So hope this hasn't been covered, but the bug is there none the less.
When Exporting a Keynote 09 slide or slides that use some of the
new Layout themes(Kyoto style etc), nothing shows up when the
PDF is opened on Windows XP machines.
I have tried it on several machines at work and at schools,
and cant get photos or text to show up.
This never happened in 08, as i often have to use PDF to do presentations
at schools that dont have powerpoint no their pcs. PDF exporting
is really important in my daily work with keynote.
I really hope there is a fix or that Apple can release a fix
for this bug, as I would love to use the new layout themes
    in presenting.
Strangely older themes have no problem opening and show all text and
photos as they should when exported using keynote 09 to pdf...
so i assume its an issue with the newer themes only ;(
    wierd.. (cries)
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me here. Apple!!! I luv you
but this issue is annoying the heck out of me.
    D

Wow, thank you so much for quick replies!
Ok ill try and explain more.
    1) I used to the Export feature (now I used SHARE > Export > choose PDF > save to desktop... view it.. its all good)
    2) I then save the file onto a flash drive and put in a XP OS run PC
    3) The slide background only shows up.. i.e. no content just the template itself
    4) This only happens to the newer templates.
    5) This happens when dragging a picture into the preset template picture boxes,
the picture just doesnt show up on the pc
    6) havent checked file sizes, because i could do this process on keynote 08.. so i assumed its a BUG and not the fault of mine
    7) Most importantly, i can do the same process and it works with the keynote 08
backgrounds and themes within 09.. but i cant get my PDFs on an XP to show when using the newer themes... just shows blank themes.. even for Kyoto theme, the tea pot picture isnt there.. its just the background
i am thinking of taking my mac into a mac store,
but im almost certain this is a bug.
to view the PDF on both my macbook and on XP i just double click
whats on the desktop and it usually shows.. but since buying 09,
as i said before, i can only get this to work for slides that use
    the old 2008 keynote templates ;( ;(
i have not tried exporting using the print feature.. i will give that a shot today. but its so wierd that it shows up for some templates and not for others.
thanks again for your kind help. i really appreciate the time and effort
you are all putting in in helping.

  • When saving a PDF file, it saves multiple of the exact same documents, why/or how do I change those settings?

When savind a PDF file, it saves multiple of the same document, why?  Are there settings to adjust or what am I doing wrong?

This might help - I'm not sure:
Go to System Preferences (under the Apple logo in the menu bar).  Click "General" and check "Always close windows when quitting an application."

    Hi all,
I plugged in my phone, went to my computer, iphone, storage, and deleted photos from there. But in my phones photostream, they are still there. Why is that?
    Cheers

    Hi Isaacprobert,
Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like you still have photos in Photostream. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • Missing photos- have tried a number of steps. Help wanted.

Hello, first time here. Would appreciate some help.
Have read 15 or so pages of threads/questions which was useful.
In my iphoto 6.0.6 I have lost some photos since my last backup due to renaming of film roll names in finder, not through iphoto (I now know and wont do it again). The photos of a renewable energy site tour and my bday with all the german relatives, show up as grey thumbnail with question mark that when I click on it, is a grey photo with a question mark (can't find it I assume).
I had also recently trashed my iphoto trash (needed to clear some room), so any photos not knowing where to live, may have been ditched. My automatic syncing with my ipod also means that this 2nd backup has removed the deleted photos from my ipod.
In iphoto, I can get the image info of the missing photos but on searching in finder for the names, it does not find anything. Neither with manually looking in the Data, Modified and Originals folders in my iphoto library.
I have used holding 'apple and option when restarting iphoto' and clicked all the options together (backup up photo library photo first), it doesnt recover the photos and still leaves the grey thumbnails there.
Are the grey thumbnails and availability of missing photo info a function of some organising file of iphoto and/or are their other steps I could take to find them?
Have looked into Data Rescue & File Salvage (trial features have not helped/found them).
Hope someone can provide some tips.
    Carl

    Thanks for your reply TD.
In copying my iphoto library to the desktop, Creating a new library, and then recreating them the new library by dragging the original rolls- I am not sure this will solve my problem.
I have searched through the original folder for the photos I am after but they are no longer there. Recreating a new library from these folders will give me the photos I have now, get rid of the grey thumbnails & info of the photos I lost (and remove my albums etc as you said).
I am speculating that there was something going funny as both rolls that have 'corrupted'/ photos missing, and a new one I just did as a test (but not deleting the photos from the camera!) did not complete their download in one go, that is it would stop partway through the download, and I would need to click download again (a result of not enough startup diskspace), but they all downloaded. Perhaps there is is a process at the end of the download that it skipped, that makes the photos sit all nice and secure in iphoto.
    1) Can it be explained why the thumbnails and information (when I do apple 'i') are still there but the photos are missing?
    2) Is there still any advantage in recreating a library if I know the photos I want aren't in the originals folder?
    3) Can you comment on any implications on when iphoto doesn't download all the contents in one go. (e.g. stopped partway for not enough diskspace)
    My safety net for future:
    - More frequent backups
    - Backing up the library6.iPhoto file after each download (Automator?)
    - Clearing space, using new drive.
    - Turning off 'delete from camera' download option until I know they are all in there.
Thanks for your help and clarity.

  • Why does my html page have no pics when its uploaded?!

Hey guys, so I have a website and a bunch of pages on it, they are all from a template I made, but now I am trying to create a seperate kind of page that is not based from the template and it is just an html file.
it all works fine and dandy until I take a look on the internet on the site, all the images are not there! everything else works and looks great but it shoes no pics even though the page uses the exact same pics that other pages use!  so the pics are on my remote server but justdont work for this one page
can you guys help me figure out why not and how to fix this?
    Thanks!

ya I forgot to say that they never uploaded in the first place, because I did upload those pics but this is what it says in the dialogue box for those files:
    about_me.html - Put operation successful
images\motowhipsmall.png - error occurred - An FTP error occurred - cannot put motowhipsmall.png.  Access denied.  The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem.
images\boostmaster_productions_banner.jpg - error occurred - An FTP error occurred - cannot put boostmaster_productions_banner.jpg.  Access denied.  The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem.
so it seems I don't have permission to put those files on and I dont know why

  • Why don't my photos want to save when i take one?

When i want to take a picture in booth photo, it doesn't want to save it for me. why should i do?

    Hi Melissa ...
Might be corrupted PhotoBooth Preferences ...
    Quit PhotoBooth if it's open.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar top of your screen click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.PhotoBooth.plist
    Click Go
Move the com.apple.PhotoBooth.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
Now relaunch PhotoBooth. See if that made a difference...

  • Why objects are said to have physical reality when they are just software programs?

I am very new to java, infact to the programming world, and am confused about classes and objects. Why do we need a class to create an object? How and when these objects find physical reality? And why do we need to create a software model of a physical thing? Where are these objects and classes stored?  Please help. Gone through 10+ websites and 4 books ,couldn't get the clear picture.

I'ts almost like a construction drawing of a car. This drawing tells you e.g. what the car will look like an how many persons it can carry. But the drawing is not able to do that. But the real car build based on that drawing is able to do things planned in the drawing. But the drawing does not tell what horsepower the cars engine may have. There will be different engines that may fit in the car giving it differen maximun speed and scceleration.
Similar thing is with java classes and objects. A class describes what the objects created from that class are able to do. When You see a class you get a clear picture of those abilities without having an object yet. From that class you get objects having all the same behavior but the objects may differ in the properties given to them.

Not sure what you mean by that. A computer program has no physical reality in a way you coult touch. The physical reatity of a computer program is representet by the magnetic alignment of goups of tiny areas  at your hard drive or electric charge/discharge of the capacitors of your computers RAM. So there is no physical reality for a computer program.

    Imagin:
You are a car manufactorer. You have to prove that your cars are safe for their passengers in case of a crash. How do you check that? Are you willing to build hundreds of physical cars only to destroy them in a test crash?
The better way is to simulate the characteristics of the construction and the materials it will be build from in a computer program and do (most of) the crash test with that computer program untill you find a setup that is prommissing to pass a real physical crash test.

This question also has more than one answer:
    1. Computer programs are stored in the world wide web and/or your computer (which effectively is part of the www).
    2. Computer programes are stored on some kind of durable memory (punch tapes, magnetic tapes, barcodes, magnetic disks, memory cards/sticks, optical disks...)
    3. Computer programs are stored in so called files at those locations and memory types. There are 2 types of files: human readable files and machine readable files. The human readable files are used by programmers to create or change a program. Some kind of program (called compiler or interpreter which is not the same and Java uses both) converts human readable files into machine readable files. Machine readable files contain the program as a sequence of numbers that a computer will interpret as commands and their parameters.
    4. The machine readable files cannot be executed as long as they are at the locations and memories mentioned earlier. before a machine readable program can be executed it must be copied to the computers RAM.
hopefully this didn't made things worse... ;o)

  • Where did my wedding photos go? Vanished when I split even - HELP!

I split an event in order to have enough room to burn photos on a CD ....when I went back to the split event of the photos I did not copy, the photo's were gone! The thumbnails were missing and the photos were missing. I see a gray square were the thumbnails should be and when I enlarge I see a black and white !.
I rebuilt the photo library several times and also rebuilt it through iphoto library manager....the photo's still have not appeared.
    Where did they go?

How did you split the Event? Did you do it using iPhoto for from the Finder? If the latter then that's why you're getting the "!", a sign that iPhoto has lost the file path to the original files.
You may have to result to the following:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
Then with some manipulating you might be able to get the original library back.
1 - open the original library and delete all of the "problem" photos by dragging them to iPhoto's trash and emptying it. Keep it to batches of 100 or less.
2 - open the new library, locate the "missing" photos and export to folders on the Desktop.
3 - open the original library and import the folders with the "missing" photos. '
Hopefully this will keep your organization for the library, keywords, etc. and recover those missing photos.

  • When saving a PDF to the Hard Drive the PDF logo has been replaced with a HTML FireFox Logo where as before it would have a PDF Logo. Is this right?

It also when opening opened in FireFox not Adobe until i changed it in Windows but the PDF logo has gone and now with the HTML FireFox Logo which now opens in Adobe. Why has the PDF logo been replaced? I hope i make some sense. Thankyou.

If you set Firefox as the default browser and Firefox detects via a registry scan that there is currently no file handler application that handles PDF files and a few other file types then the Firefox updater/installer registers Firefox as the default application to handle these file types.
This causes them to show with a Firefox icon on the desktop and in other places like Windows Explorer (Bug 452254).
You can right-click a PDF file in Windows Explorer and use the open with dialog to change the default application to the Adobe Reader or your preferred application to handle PDF file.
If the icon doesn't change to the icon of that application then you may have to change the icon on the desktop via other means
On Windows XP you can check the Windows Control Panel:
*Control Panel > Folder Options > File Types: .PDFf
*Registry Editor: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.pdf\ or HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.pdf (Default = empty string)

    Hi,
I logged a call with AppleCare & have since had explained why this occurs (some time ago)
I'll try to explain what was indicated to me.
iOS has a limited Font Set & this affects what PDFs can display. You need to use iOS supported fonts in your PDFs to see/read them properly
These supported fonts are indicated here => http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4980
Regards MS office docs, iOS doesn't have much of an API to work with MS Office documents at all so is stuck with 3rd Party Apps to try to do it.
Unfortunately Mail in/on iOS uses the API to attempt to open/use MS Office attachments unless you tell it to use an App to open the attachment.
I have had success opening & reading MS office docs now with CloudOn, but find it slow & very awkward to use.
Not too sure if this helps others, but at least it explains why this is occurring

  • Images turn greyscale when saving Postscript/PDF or Print Preview but text remains in colour?

It is in colour, until I turn on Overprint preview, or try to save the booklet as a Postscript or PDF file.
In print preview or when doing any of the above things, it goes to greyscale but the text and rectangles remain in colour?
The images have been placed from Photoshop as eps files and were duatone in PS.
    Please help.

As both the engineering resource at Adobe most involved with end-to-end PDF print publishing workflows and having served at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo last year as an Industry Research Professor teaching students about modern, reliable workflows as well as variable data publishing with PDF, I find this thread fascinating.
Obviously, you can force fit PostScript for output, albeit very inconveniently and with the possibility of problems and artifacts due to the device-dependent nature of PostScript (along with flattened transparency, lack of ICC color management, and inconsistencies in spot color handling).
However, unless the university assignment was specifically to demonstrate to you how difficult and problematic PostScript-based workflows were over a dozen years ago, I am absolutely appalled that any accredited university or professional school program in design / graphic arts / publishing / printing would have you use PostScript workflows in any way.
Other than hacking around with the possibility of doing output that varies based on external variables as the job is being RIPed, I know of absolutely no advantages of PostScript over PDF in this arena and obviously a boatload of disadvantages.
As I have written many times in the past, I wouldn't advocate that publishers with extensive collections of EPS-based content do wholesale conversions of same, but for new content or when content needs revision, PDF is definitely the replacement for EPS or PostScript in any flavor.
