Why do my ipad(1) apps keep shutting down

I have an original iPad, updated to the latest available (ios5.1.1 according to iTunes) and apps seem to shut themselves down shortly after startup.
Not all apps, and seemingly no particular apps - safari, facebook, some games, calendar have all done it.
Any ideas?

If none of the suggestions that Diavonex has posted are helping, then the next step is to restore the iOS software using iTunes on your computer.
iTunes: Restoring iOS software - Support - Apple
If restoring fails to resolve the issue, a trip to an Apple Store is in order. Let an Apple Genius take a look. I think that they have more sophisticated ways of restoring devices and they might be able to work it out for you.

  • Why does my iPad email app keep shutting down?

I just purchased my iPad 2 3G last week, so I am a new iPad/Apple user.  I really like the product and now wonder why I have stayed loyal to the Windows PC for so long.  I'm still looking for some of those useful PC keys and keystroke shortcuts that I am so accustomed to, but I am adapting.
My iPad mail app keeps shutting down on me, whether I am typing a message or just reviewing/managing my mail.  I use a bluetooth keyboard, so it is not a matter of me bumping the touch screen that is causing the app to close.
I have lost a lot of important business emails while composing them and eventually stopped using my iPad to compose email.
Is there a setting controlling this or is it a program glitch?
    Thanks.

It could be that the battery charge indicator is showing 100 percent when you actually have almost no charge left.  In case that is the problem, leave your iPad connected to its wall charger overnight, and see if that helps.
One other thing to try, is to reset (reboot) your iPad.  Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow.  The iPad will restart after a couple of minutes.  Resetting this way will not hurt anything, and sometimes solves mysterious problems.

  • Why does my WD2GO Pro app keep shutting down when I'm trying to access a file?

Ive invested in a WD My Book Live 2TB network hard drive and the associated WD2GO Pro app for the ipad.
This is great for tiny files (1-2mb) but anything over 20mb make the app shut down.
Why is the ipad shutting down?  Cant it show a PDF over a certain size?
I know I can open it in other programmes (PDF by corporate smalltalk) but WD2GO provides the facility to create a URL link to the hard drive, thus allowing me to email this link to clients / printers etc.
The silly thing is that if Im really quick I can send the link but if Im longer than about 4 seconds the app shuts down.
    Frustrating isnt the word!
Hope someone somewhere out there has an idea.  Just please dont say that the new Ipad solves this problem as Ill be (forced) into upgrading lol

Open a Finder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left then open the Library folder then the Caches folder then the com.apple.safari folder. Move the Cache.db file (might say ApplicationCache.db) to the Trash.
Try Safari. If it crashes again, follow the instructions for uninstalling then reinstalling Flash >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
    Restart your Mac Try Safari.

  • I have the original IPad and it keeps shutting down in all apps and programs.

I have the original IPad and it keeps shutting down in all apps and programs.  Does anyone have a solution for this problem.

First and periodically double click the home button and close all the apps in the recently used dock. Then power off and then back on the iPod. This frees up memory. The iPad 1only has 256 MB of memory.
    Next
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • My Facebook app keeps shutting down when I try to see my inbox messages

MY Facebook app keeps shutting down when I try to open my inbox messages . It happens on both my iPhone and my iPad

I'm having the same issue and I think I've figured out why: apparently, Facebook had an issue with it a few days ago and shut them off until they've fixed it. Here's a link to the info:

  • Unable to delete you tube history. You tube app keeps shutting down.

My you tube app keeps shutting down, when a video has loaded to play. Then returns to the startup screen... I have tried to delete the history, but the red delete buttons fades out an nothing happens.

One point. I don't have much iPad experience, but if I have too many films on the iPad , would this have a effect on the overall memory, and could this be the problem. If I delete the films from the iPad, will I still have them in the iCloud or library.

  • Why does my 2009 27" imac keep shutting down?

why does my 2009 27" imac keep shutting down?

Could, also, be failing hard drive , power supply or logic board.
You may have to make an appointment and take your iMac in to Apple or Apple authorized repair center for diagnostics and a repair estimate.
If your iMac has a 1 TB internal hard drive, it maybe a Seagate drive and maybe eligible for free replacement under the Apple Seagate 1 TB internal hard drive replacement program.
If you can get your iMac running, you need to backup all of your data ASAP!. Either backup to optical disc, flash drive/s or purchase an external hard drive for backup. You can use a data cloning program such as CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper to make an exact copy of your iMac's internal hard drive.
You can check for eligibility for free hard drive replacement by inputting your iMac's serial number here.

hi my iPhoto app keep shutting down what should i do?

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see when iPhoto opens or tries to open, i.e. how soon does it crash?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

  • Why does my i pad 2 keep shutting down or freezing?

I recieived my i pad 2 3 days ago and it keeps either freezing or shutting down in the middle of something.  Why is this happening? Can I adjust something to stop this?

In addition to KP's advice there are a couple of other basic things to try.
    Quitting open/running/recent apps
Quit apps by double tapping the home button to bring up the multitasking/recents tray at the bottom, hold down on any of the app icons in the tray until all the icons wiggle, then tap the minus sign in the corner to quit/close the apps.
    Then restart the iPad
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button at the top of the iPad until the red slider appears, then slide to the right to power off. Turn the iPad on again by pressing the sleep button until the Apple logo appears. See if this helps.

  • Why does my intel imac (2008) keep shutting down?

Imac recently started shutting down. no new hardware/software additions. Happens randomly, sometimes on start-up. Any ideas?

    From: Eustace Mendis
    Sounds like a Broken Drive...
Most of the times this will be solved with a HardDrive Replacement
    although,
    you could try this
Restart your Mac and hold down the Command key and the R key (Command-R).
Keep holding these keys until the Apple icon appears.
This indicates that your Mac is starting up.
After the Recovery System is finished starting up,
you should see a desktop with an OS X menu bar and a "Mac OS X Utilities" window.
After you do this, select Disk Utility and run it.
    On the next screen,
Select the hard drive in the left hand column,
the First Aid tab on the top, and click on Reparid Disk. (bottom left)
When that is done, click on Repair Permissions.
When that is done, quit Disk Utility and restart.

  • Iphone Apps keep shutting down

Please note before you read this: I have not found a patch, nor has Apple released one.
    Hi everyone,
I have recently purchased an iPhone 4 in New Zealand. Until today, I was very happy with my purchase, the only fault I could find was the short battery, and minor reception issues.
However today, I have started having the problem of "unexpected shut downs" of all my apps. I googled to see if anyone else had been experiencing the same issue - and was astounded to find that this is a very common issue that dates back further than early 2008. Apple has issued no updates, nor has Apple advised clients how to fix it.
The general concensus out there is that every time you come up with this issue, you have to reset your phone to factory settings, and reinstall each application. Either that, or delete some applications because you have "too many". I only have 9 applications so we can rule that out as a fault.
Does anyone know how to get this issue raised with Apple? I want an answer! As I am not prepared to reset my phone everytime they have a fault. This is not a user error, this is a hardware error. Something which Apple needs to answer for.
If anyone else is having similar issues please comment. I realise that there is lenthy fix it ways to do everytime we get this error, but I would much rather Apple release a patch or new OS themselves. We are the customers, we do not chase up the faults of there products.
    Cheers,
    Darren H

Did you try turning off all of your Apps?  Double click on the home button, when your open app screen comes on hold your finger on one of the app icon until they start to wiggle and a red "x" shows up in the left top corner.  Just touch the "x" on each app to shut them down.  Also you should restart your phone by holding down the on/off button and home button at the same time until you see the Apple logo. You shouldn't need to reset your phone.
