Why do my layers disappear when I save a .jpg?

Photoshop has learned a new trick in my office today:
I arrange all of my text and layers the way I want them, get all ready to save and my group of layers becomes invisible. This is odd. They are all set to be visible in the layers window, soI select the group, use the move tool to wiggle them and they reappear. I put them back where they belong, all is good, I save my .jpg and the layers are not visible when I open the .jpg. They are, however, visible in the thumbnail version of the image in Windows Explorer. I go back to Photoshop and the layers are invisible again in spite of being set to visible.
I am at a loss. I have never experienced this before. I thought maybe it was my video card screwing up so I restarted my computer and the problem is still there. Has anyone experienced this before?

Maybe this will help. This is a screenshot of what I am talking about. All of the layers that I have circled in red should have a picture of a TV, some text, shapes, etc. All are marked as visible yet I can't see them. They are not off the drawing board, nor are they under the background. If I select the containing group and move it, they become visible again.
This is directly after trying to save a .jpg.
This is what it looks like when I try to view my .jpgs in Windows. This is the filmstrip view. When I open the .jpg in Windows Picture Viewer, all I get is the background image like the one here but if you look at the thumbnail, you can see what it is supposed to look like. I have never seen this happen before in 2 years of working with Photoshop.
Any help or direction with this would be greatly appreciated, I am at a loss as to what could be causing this.

  • Layers disappear when saving in CS6

My layers disappear when I try to save in Photoshop CS6. They disappear when I get to the last step before saving(where you can select the quality and stuff). The effects stay, but they become kind of crappy. I've no idea how this happened either. I was just working on some pictures one by one, and then suddenly, it started happening. I did nothing differently.
Reinstalling didn't help either. What the hell is going on?

You're seeing normal behaviour/results. Most image file formats do not support layers and there can be subtle to huge differences in the display of a layered doc versus its flattened composite because Photoshop uses imprecise shortcuts to generate the composited display of a layered doc. The display discrepancies can be minimised by viewing at 100% zoom.
While working on a document, check adjustment layers, effects and layer blending with zoom at 100% so there are no nasty surprises lurking in the doc. (Of course, I realise that there's a very good chance that you may be viewing only a small region of an image when zoom is 100%.)
Regarding the JPEG save in particular: when you are at the stage of picking quality/compression, there is an option of previewing the result of the compression. JPEG doesn't support layers, hence the flattened composite at that stage. Your open doc will still be layered after you commit the save.

Created PDF form in Acrobat XI Pro, but HELP fields disappear when I save FCDT file to PDF. Please help. Thanks!

I am not aware of a field type "Help" within a PDF form. I do not see it as a form field that can be added in the form edit mode.
Forms Central forms do not support all the features of Acrobat forms.
Are you talking about the "Tool Tips" or a hidden field that only shows when one enters a field and is hidden upon exiting the field.

Go to Preferences, and then into ClipboardHandling. Click a radio button choice for All Information instead of Text Only.

  • Why are all my paths disappearing when I save some files as jpegs?

I have 2 identical PSD files. Both have 10 different paths that are identical for each file. When I flatten and save one file as a jpeg the paths stay in the file just fine as is usually the case. When I open the jpeg the paths are still there as they should be.
When I save the other file as a jpeg all the paths are there after I've saved the file and BEFORE I've closed the file. After closing and reopening the file the paths are all gone. If I save the same file as a tiff the paths all stay as usual.
I've never seen this happen in almost 20 years of using Photoshop.
    Anybody have any ideas?
    Thank you

I am NOT using "save jpeg for web" just to be clear.
If I were, then the other image wouldn't be keeping any of its paths either.
I am using "Jpeg" in the Save As dialogue box.
If I edit the jpeg that lost its paths after opening it and hit "Save" it gives me the compression options dialogue box. Other jpegs just "save" when I hit save, I've never had a jpeg give me that dialogue box before when hitting just "Save".
If, after opening the image that lost its paths, I paste a path into that image and hit "Save"(using one of the same original paths from the same original psd file), it gives me the compression dialogue box. If I complete the "Save" and reopen the image, voila, the path I pasted into it is still there, and, if I edit the image and hit "Save" it becomes normal again and saves without showing the compression options dialogue box.

800 gigs of free space on the system drive

There really is no reason for this to happen. There are no differences in the images except for the content of the image and the file names.
I have tried new file names and still the same result.
I have tried working from the Desktop and still the same result.
    This is a serious bug.

  • Why does added text disappear when I move the cursor

After adding text to an unprotected .pdf file the text disappears when I move the cursor and want to add a second box of text. The text in the first box reappears when I double click on the space where the box was. How do I set the text so that it remains visible and printable?

    Hi,
I think the data in the PDF file was filled-in using MAC preview.
One option is to ask the user to fill the file again using Adobe Reader or Acrobat.
Or else refer to following link:

  • Flash main application toolbar disappears when I save a file in cs4

    Hi
When I save a .fla on my macbook (snow leopard OS) the main Flash CS4 application toolbar (the one with the minimize, maximize, hide buttons on it) disappears after the save dialogue has gone.  To get it back I have to re-launch the app.
has anyone else noticed this?  I have checked for software updates but nothing seems to be addressing this issue.
    any help much appreciated
    thanks

    i keep getting this too!
my tools panel disappears whenever i debug a movie or when i load flash up...
hitting "reset workspace" brings it back the way i want it - but it get old REALLY fast
this is a VERY annoying bug... i've tried all i could on my end, but it still does that....
and if i save another workspace, with the tools panel placed elsewhere, then it's the properties panel that starts messing with me... so irritating
this is going on since CS4, and has NOT been fixed in CS5....
is there an "under the hood" fix for it? some config files i can delete or something?

  • CS3 Layers disappear when importing map into InDesign

I have an Illustraor .ai file of a map with many layers and when I import it into my InDesign document
some of the layers disappear. When I open the map in Illustrator they are all turned on but in InDesign some seem as they are turned off or transparent. Very frustrating...any help is appreciated!

Thanks so much for your responses. Although I don't complete understand what the issue was becasue I am no Illustrator expert I did find a solution. I found that there were multiple layers within a layer and also many of those layers had paths/compound paths. So I pulled the layers within out and made new separate layers for them all and removed unnecessary compound paths. So now I have many layers instead of a couple layers with multiple layers within. Confusing I know...but it worked!
    Thanks again for your input.

  • Layers disappear when creating a symbol

    Hello,
I've created a symbol using several layers, however when I play the composition back, nothing is visibile.  What am I missing?  The symbol is made up of 2 lines that sprint out from another object.

Yes you can edit your symbols. Right click on the element panel and chose edit symbol. Remember that like in Flash, all instances will be changed to the new edit.

  • Why are my gradients changing when I save as an .svg?

Occasionally when I save to .svg in Illustrator CS5, my gradient changes colors from color-to-color, to color-to-white!
This never happened in CS3. This also happens sometimes when I past as a smart object into a Photoshop document! GERRRRRRRR!!!!!
    Thanks in advance,
    Cheyenne

    Hi Mylenium,
you are completely correct. I think the issue was due to some strange document settings carried over from CS3. I ended up trashing those files and pasting into fresh CS5 documents, which corrected the issue. However I can't reproduce the issue now
Thanks for your help though, and I appologise for the lack of documentation.
    Cheers,
    Cheyenne

  • Why do print margins change when I save or print as a pdf?

I am printing from a church software program.  I need to save the report as a pdf so that it will print and fold on our new Xerox.  However when I print to pdf, the margins change and the text boxes slightly move and no longer line up with the preprinted forms I need to use.  Why does this happen?  Is there any way to change the margins or columns, once in pdf?

Are you sure this is happening when you print to PDF?
And not, later, when you print the PDF?
What print scaling do you choose in Adobe Reader/Acrobat?

  • Why is the sound disappearing when I send a video?

I have an iPhone 5C.  When I record a video and send it, the sound disappears!  I can hear it just fine when I play the video back on my phone, but if I send the video to someone, they can't hear it.  Why is this happening?  I tested it by sending it to my email, and sure enough, the sound is gone!  Am I doing something wrong when I send it, or is there a setting that is off somewhere that I need to adjust?

I can't even see where that setting is.. for my information all the footage is from a GoPro so what I've had to do is convert them to .mov and Apple ProRes 422 now. Now when I have them in final cut the samples in 'All Clips' and in the time line look ok in till I hover over them and then they have the red hint again, they do how ever export the right colour now but this is going to make colour correction difficult
