Why do my page up/page down keys stop working randomly in Firefox 4.

One minute they're working, the next minute they are not, and I have to close and restart Firefox to get them working again. These keys work fine in other browsers. Any ideas?

You may have inadvertently turned on the Caret browsing mode. Hit '''F7''' and see if the up / down arrow keys work.

  • My D-L keys stop working randomly

The only keys affected are the "d-l" keys. I am typing this post on a virtual keyboard so I apoloize for any typos.
My computers "d" key has been giving me minor troubles for the past couple months I assume from using it the most. But about a week ago almost the entire row stopped working, and I couldn't even log onto my computer because my password has an "h" in it. I tried restarting, and it did nothing. I tried again a few hours later and the problem was fixed on its own. The problem occured again and fixed itself again within a few minutes. Now it seems to be permanently broken, unless I press the "d" key down hard and wiggle it a bit. If I do this then I can press the keys on that row for a few seconds, before breaking again.
This is extremely frustrating and anyone who can shed some light on the situation would be helping me tremendously. I have never spilled anything on my keyboard and my laptop is about 2 years and 2 months old.

I'm having the exact same problem,TKasinger. And apparently it happened quite the same time. Using a external keyboard solves the issue but what's the point? So is this a logical or physical issue?l

  • Why has almost a whole row of keys stopped working (S through L)

It's possible there are some bits of dust or something under the keys. Anyone have experience with fixing this? Or is this a Genius Bar issue?

LOL. Not to worry. Nerds will inherit the earth. Not that this will be much of an inheritance at the rate we're going, but....
Thanks, btw. Next time I go shopping for teeny-weeny tools, I'll be sure a Philips #00 is in my hand at checkout.
So anyway, the Genius Bar cleaned out some dust, fuzz (3 cats will do that) abd charged me nothing :) Pretty happy about that. Before leaving the store, I bought a Marblue Keyboard Protector for $24.95 to prevent future problems of this kind.
I didn't mention the tiny black screw and if they noticed that it was missing they kept the news to themselves.
Yippee! I love when a disabling problem can be solved so easily. Thanks for the moral support :)

  • MY page up and down key does not what its suppose to do but now instead it goes forward or back a web page

Seems like since I installed the new Firefox my Page up and down key has stopped making my web pages go down or up but instead the page up key makes the web page go forward in history and the page down key makes it go back a webpage.

" Is there anyway the apple or my service provider can help me with this? "
    No.
"What is the point of the app if it only works when the phone is on? "
The pont is to assist with locating a lost iphone.
"Then it is only usefull within those first couple of days."
Correct.  How would any device be tracked if it had no power?
Very sorry for your situation, but there is nothing to do.
Report it to the police and change your passwords.

  • Page Up and Down keys won't work - have tried everything

My Page Up and Down keys won't work. I've tried hitting F7, the Fn key, checked that the "Always use cursor keys to navigate" box is not selected in the Advanced Options tab and made sure that the "Use autoscrolling" tab is selected. I tried uninstalling and re-installing Firefox, tried hitting buttons F1 through to F12 and then checked that accessibility.warn_on_browsewithcaret is set to 'true'.
It also won't work in Internet Explorer - I have no idea what else to try. My Up/Down arrows are working, just not the Page Up/Page Down buttons. Please help, this is driving me nuts. It's only just started happening; I've never had a problem with it before!

What is the value of the pref [http://kb.mozillazine.org/accessibility.browsewithcaret accessibility.browsewithcaret] on the about:config page?
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Brightness keys stopped working; won't restart or shut down

A couple days ago my brightness and volume keys stopped working. I thought restarting my computer (i also needed to restart it to install a software update) would fix this problem but then realized my Mac won't go to sleep, restart, or shut down. Any ideas on what I should do? Thanks for the help!

Sounds like you'll have to, then...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Tiger Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
(If perchance you cant Find your Install Disk, at least do the Safe Boot part above).

    Hello!
I just figured this out.....When Firefox is open, my Illustrator CS2 modifier keys stop working?
As soon as I shut down Firefox, they start working again. Please help!
    Thanks!
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == Not sure.

Try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

  • Navigation keys stop working

I downloaded Digital Editions from the Adobe site.  After 30 or 45 minutes the navigate keys stopped working.  (all arrow keys, page up, page down)  What must I do to restore operation?  Windows XP with SP-3, Looks like Digital editions 1.7.2.1131

This is a known problem with ADE (and it's been ongoing for a while, and I've never been able to track it down).  Unfortunately the only workaround is to quite ADE and to restart.

  • Boot keys stopped working after Leopard install

I have seen others having this problem in another thread but no answers, so thought I'd give it a go.
After reading these threads finally got Leopard to install and run okay. Many thanks all. But, along the way, my boot keys stopped working. It doesn't matter what I hold down, whether 'c' or 'cmd-opt-p-r' or 'shift' or any other key combination the machine just boots straight into Leopard.
I have tried resetting the PMU (or whatever it is these days) via the internal button in desperation but still no luck.
    Anyone with any ideas?

Same problem here, so I'll pull this post up. No key works.
I always have to go to the Start Drive (or whatever it's called in english) in Preferences Panes and choose the partition I wish to start directly in OSX or Windows for booting back to OSX. This is very annoying. Alt key won't show up any possible boot disk although their both internal drives.
If someone would kindly post any ideas how to change that, would be great. I've done a fresh install, with a Time Machine recovery, but this didn't seem to help.
    EDIT:
I found another subjet here from november '07:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1224639
it seems the new Apple Keyboard is the origin of the Problem on iMac Core Duo. Apple techs said that a new firmeware should be coming before the end of 2007 (but it's february 2008 now ?!?). Any other ideas how to get this work ? I'll write on Aplpe feedback page for sure. Maybe the other boot keys aren't working because of this keyboard too.

  • Qosmio X500 - Function FN Keys Stopped Working

Today the FN keys stopped working, I wanted to FN + Sleep my laptop and noticed it didn't work, neither did the brightness or any other worked. The only FN key that worked was to lock windows / logout.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

As I know, The Vap (Value added package) utility and flash card support a responsible for such functions. On the toshiba driver page I couldn't find flashcard support but only Vap So, install The Vap from :

Before installing , remove the previous one and restart the lap, then. Now, install downloaded one.

  • Satellite A105 Shift Keys stop working after BIOS update

I have a stack of laptop boards from the A105 series (Intel chipset) that I received with bad BIOS's. Two worked, and I updated the BIOS's on them to fix CPU compatibility issues. After that, the shift keys stopped working, and pressing Shift-A causes the power light to dim. Reverting to ANY previous version BIOS, whether through the Windows program, CD, or Crisis Recovery floppy (magic key is "F", not "B", "Esc", or "U"), does not fix the keyboard problem.
To make things more confusing, I did notice that the one single BIOS that seems to actually correct the problem is version 1.50, which I haven't seen available for any Tecra A7 or Satellite A100/A105, except a couple A100's, but the BIOS file is much too small and can't be loaded.
Does anyone have any idea why these Intel-based boards are doing this? Or does anyone know where I can get a usable version 1.50 BIOS?
For the sake of this post, please consider my skill level to be high. (In other words, I would be thankful for people trying to help with "Replace the keyboard", but I have about a dozen keyboards, all of which I have tried, and all of which work on other laptops. Additionally, if you have just a theoretical solution, I'm definitely open to hearing it. Also, if a Toshiba tech would like to reply, I would very much appreciate it!)

Hi, thank you for your help.
Some motherboards were not in chassis when I got them. Is there a place the PSAAxx model number would be written on the boards?
Four PSAA8U (Two A105-S4334 and Two A105-S4014) - Intel Chipset, fingerprint reader. Tried BIOS Versions 1.40, 1.70, 2.00, 5.10, 5.60, 5.90, and 6.00. Shift keys do not work on either one.
    Two PSAA2U (A105-S2091 and A105-S2031) - ATi Chipset. BIOS versions 1.50, 1.80, and 2.30. Keyboard works.
Another PSAA8U (A105-S4184) - Intel Chipset, no fingerprint reader. BIOS version 6.00. Keyboard works.
I noticed that so far all of the models with fingerprint readers have the problem. All of the ATi Chipset boards are working fine, but they have significant processor limits. I am in the middle of updating the BIOS in another Intel one using a Crisis Rescue Disc, so after that finishes I will try disconnecting the fingerprint reader to see if it has an effect.
I don't think the keyboard controller is faulty, because these boards all failed on the same day. I have tried updating the BIOS using WinPhlash, Phlash16 in DOS, the install CD, and a Crisis Recovery Disk. I set the defaults in the BIOS almost every time, and I also have tried holding the power button for 60 seconds with the power cord unplugged and the battery removed (as some people have suggested.)
The shift keys don't work in DOS, Linux, Windows, or even in the BIOS. I test it in the BIOS by using Tab to cycle through the fields in time of day, then Shift-Tab to cycle backwards. This works with a USB keyboard, and it also works on the ATi chipset models and the Intel chipset models that are still working.
Thank you for your reply. (-:
