Why do my pattern swatch colours print differently to rest of my artwork

I have some 2 coluor artwork consisting of 2 x pantone colours purple and grey.
Within the artwork is a stripe pattern swatch consisting of the same colours. On screen the colours are fine and I've checked all the colour settings and these are fine too.
Why however when i print the artwork does the pattern print in a different colour???
Please help as I'm going out of my mind with this one.!
Anthony

I am having exactly the same problem.
The colours of a pattern fill print very differently when it is expanded.
All the colours in the pattern swatch are CMYK. They look identical on screen when the pattern fill is expanded.
When printed, the mustard yellow, the appley-lime green, and the purpley-grey look completely different.
I'm using CS6 Illustrator, FOGRA39. I'm wondering if this is a printer issue maybe?
This is really frustrating and very worrying as I use pattern swatches a lot, and colours need to stay the same as they are approved.
I've found this thread and another one from 2010 with what sounds like the same issue (Pattern Swatch Colours) but neither have been resolved.
Please help if you have any ideas!

  • Pattern Swatch Colours

    Hello
Has anyone experienced the problem where the colour of an object created from a pattern swatch is different from the colours that were used to create the pattern swatch in the first place.
This happens in CMYK and RGB documents, happens on several different computers (haven't had the chance to try a different printer) and happens no matter what colour management is used. We have tried all sorts of things to solve this, but each time the colour of anything using the pattern swatch is distincly different to the original colour used to make the pattern swatch.
It says the colour has the same values and on the screen it looks the same, but when it is printed out the original and the pattern are definitely different.
Any help and advice would be useful.
    Thanks

  • Illustrator CC text colour prints different to object colour

    Hi there
Im having an issue in Illustrator CC where text is printing a different colour to an object. Both are using the same cmyk colour and look identical on screen but when printed the text is much lighter.
If the text is converted to outlines it prints fine. There is no transparency or tint applied. I've tried a few different colours, tried back-saving and converting to pdf, same problem. Will now check our printer settings but in the meantime, has anyone had this problem?

Here it is with the appearance options shown
There is only one lay with the box (which I eyedropped color from) and the text.  In this image I selected both of them and its saying they are both blue (if the text was black than a question mark would be in the pallet instead of the blue)

  • Why does the Harvey Balls font print differently than it displays in Acrobat?

I used the Harvey Balls font (harvey_balls.ttf) to populate a table in a PowerPoint 2007 document. I saved the document as a PDF using the Save As - Adobe PDF function in PowerPoint. When the document displays on my screen, it looks normal. Please see below an example of two 4-balls on the left and two 3-balls on the right.
However, when I print it from Acrobat, the solid black circles that represent "4" in the Harvey Ball font print out with a white cutout in the upper left quadrant of each. Please see below, an example of the same two 4-balls on the left and two 3-balls on the right.
How can I get this to print properly?

Why do my pattern swatch colours print differently to rest of my artwork
Yes it is a postscript printer. I'm sorry, I can't show images as the design is confidential - but if you click on the link above, this person has photos of the same problem.
I could put together a generic pattern swatch in the same colour and take a photo of the print out, if that helps.

  • Printing pattern swatch versus Expanded Art

Attached is a photo of the pattern swatch on the left and the expanded art on the right.
Since the colors are both the same, why is the pattern swatch so gray where as the expanded art is what matches my swatches I made.
Original art is below, on the left is the expanded art, on the right is the pattern swatch.  Sorry the images don't cooridinate with each other.
My color space is Adobe 1998 for Illustrator CS5 and my textile RIP.  I've never had any problems printing and matching swatches with regular art
until this art that has a pattern swatch.  Any ideas?

  • Export to PDF and print same swatch colour - different variation of colour on printouts

I have multiple documents - they are all set up the same way.
I have 2 or 3 swatches in each of them -namely Rubine Red is giving me an issue - this is the same swatch in every document!

Here are my Colour Settings - the exact same in every document - I have also used the "Convert Profiles" and made sure all are the exact same.

    Export to PDF
When I export to PDF - the export looks great - and the coloured frames all look the exact same - and they give the exact same colour read outs in any profile I look at in the Preflight Manager
The CMYK Reading is 4/99/20/0 in all boxes

Same swatch and same swatch values

Can anyone help me with this?
The printer I am using is a XeroxColorQube using PS driver.
    Windows 7
    Adobe InDesign CS5.5
    Fully updated

I've also exported the document to IDML - and I've unzipped that folder. I've read the information for the colour - there's only 1 reference to Rubine Red and that's giving the same percentages as the InDesign file.
I don't know where the 2nd shade of pink is coming from.
But I suspect that it's from the print driver itself.
Also - just occured to me, I lost my PDF settings a while ago, InDesign crashed and the PDF defaults were missing - I dowloaded a copy of a set from someone on these forums through a google search.
But I no longer have PDF x4 export option - where can I retrieve these.
How can I restore the original PDF settings for InDesign?

  • Printed colour is different between two elements both created in pages with the same colour

    Hi There,
I have been having some issues getting a text colour to match a logo (imported in pdf format) - While trying to discover what was happening I created a sample colour of (HSB 189 / 89 / 73) in pages and saved it in my colours palette to test.
Now if I create some text (in pages) and a shape (also in pages) and colour them from the same colour sample/swatch and print it - the colours are clearly very different, Does pages do some kind of text colour correcting or weirdness that I cant find? Its hard to believe this is the desired workflow and its very anoying.
PS. I have also tried printing from a pdf and I have the same issues - That said the two colours look identical in pages and the pdf on screen.
I'd be extremely grateful for any help
    NB I have since read
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/9263007#9263007
Which although is helpful and may explain the behavious of the imported logo pdf vs the text it doesn't (I dont think) explain how two elements both created in pages using the same colour (from pages) would be dfferent?

They are both coming out at the exact same colour (CMYK 83, 0, 21, 0) which is correct however they are not the same colours when printed, Im begining to think this is less of a pages thing (as the output is correct) but something is going wrong between pdf/pages and print
Its not the easiest thing to see so you may have to take my word for it - but the two colours are not the same by quite a long way (Theres way more contrast in real life)
I think Im ready to admit defeat on this but thanks a bunch for your help!

  • Why do placed images in illustrator print a different shade of black than the black in the document?

It has happened to me more than a few times. For example, I'll place artwork that was created in photoshop into an illustrator document, and the blacks are inconsistent. Any advice?

Your blacks may have different CMYK values. The default value for foreground swatch in photoshop  is 75c 68m 67 y 90k and many people don't realize that is not 100%k. A common Rich black value is 60c 40my 100k, which makes the black darker, and still neutral by having cyan above my.
If you specify 100 k in photoshop & 100k in illustrator, and the colors print different, you may have a color destination profile assigned to your placed CMYK image.

    No, that's not necessary.
You Mac most likely sat in inventory before it was sold so the latest drivers were not installed.
If you tried using the printer and couldn'tget it to work, go here >  http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html
If this is a USB connected printer, make sure it's connected to your Mac, then at that link click:  Detect Your Product
Download and install drivers for v10.7 / Lion.

  • How to get consistent colour prints from different Macs?

    Hello Forum,
we are unable to get consistent colour prints from the various Macs in our office. There is only one printer, and for the sake of this discussion only one PDF file to be printed. The Macs have various OSes, from 10.4.11 up to 10.9.5; most are Minis of one vintage or another.
The printed results *should* IMHO be identical no matter which computer issues the "print" command, but they are far from that. Some computers print with a reddish tint, others with too little saturation or too much brightness (to put it in Photoshop terms).
What exactly must we do to get identical results no matter which computer does the printing?
    Thanks in advance
    John
p.s. May I just say what a ridiculous pain in the neck it is to have to choose from that list of purchasable Apple products aka communities? Some questions, like this one, do not belong in a single community or at least there is no community whose title describes our problem. I am uneasy filing it under "Mac Mini" because there is absolutely no reason to believe that the problem is a misbehaviour of *one* of our Minis. In the old days, when help was geared to users rather than to pushing the sale of further Apple products, there used to be forums with titles like "Printing problems".

Thanks for the suggest, which didn't solve the problem — because it wasn't a Mac problem at all. Acrobat Reader was getting the colours wrong! Setting "Print as image" in the Print dialog extensions solved it.
    Resolved, case closed.

  • Why are my color swatches getting turned into pattern swatches?

Problem is when I make a color swatch and then drag it into the swatches panel it immediatly turns the color swatch into pattern swatches. Which is what I do not want. How do I correct this?

Don't drag the object into the swatches panel. Instead select the object, focus the fill and use the new swatch button

  • Illustrator - Pattern Swatch / Clipping mask issue

I'm currently working in Illustrator CS6. I'm creating pattern swatches and have successfully created 20 - but 4 are giving me the following issue.
When I drag the perfect swatch tile into swatches it appears as so instead of the perfect tile:
"New pattern swatch 3" has a white space on the right. Which sometimes when I create the swatch takes up half of the 'swatch.'
When I go to create a shape and apply the pattern, I am left with an empty box.
When I double click to adjust the pattern I get this dialog box:
When I go to adjust the bounding box, to see where my pattern is - this crazy mess happens:
Further investigation and deleting items to see whats happening:
Bits of my pattern appear, but not sure why the other bars are there.
I'm having this issue with four very different patterns. But I have also succesfully created more complicated ones. Not sure why this is happening.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Hey everyone,
I am in the same version, same file. I have also tried starting from scratch in another file just to make sure. Same issue.
I have templates of what i want my patterns to be, so I have tried to make the patterns both ways. Starting from my original art - expanding all shapes and making them so they will tile perfectly.
    1. with clipping mask. 2. released mask, and expanded shape. 3. perfect tile.
from scratch, made to tile perfectly.
    Same issue for both:
To make sure it wasn't only this one I tried a different pattern that was giving me the same error before hand.
I tried with original art which didn't work, so I quickly recreated with squares. Same tile, one time it was empty producing same issue as above. And second time it did this:
    1. What tile is supposed to look like       2. Tile applied to shape - but the pattern swatch icon is empty?
Maybe this is a program bug?

  • Color swatch vs. pattern swatch

Whenever I try to create a new CMYK color swatch it automatically opens pattern swatch name panel. Why won't it let me create a color swatch?
    WZ

    Hi Larry,
Thanks for responding. I just started using Illustrator CC and I couldn't make a new swatch. When I dragged color blocks from the paste board to the color panel it would show up in the patterned swatches. I was trying to update some old files so instead I just opened new files and started over. It's working now but it would be easier to use the already formatted CS6 files. Hmmmmm
