Why do my videos have black bars

I've tried placing Vimeo and Youtube videos into a Muse page and I get black bars top and bottom. How do I get rid of them?

Using social widgets. This video is from Vimeo. The black bars aren't just behaving like letterbox bars. You can see the bottom bar is overlapping the Vimeo player.  When the play bar goes away, the black bars stay.

  • Why does my CSS have black bars?

I picked 2 col elastic with left sidebar.  It shows as full width with springs but I get black bars on the sides?   How do I make the page wider?
    Thanks
    Frank

This is a fairly typical centered, fixed-width layout.  The body background-color gives the appearance of dark gray underneath your white content region.  To change the background-color in your CSS code, amend this rule:
    body  {
        background: #666666;  /**adjust color as desired**/

  • Why does interlaced video have vertical black bars?

Despite looking all over the internet and asking video editors I know, I've never yet found a satisfactory answer to this question:
When I bring DV PAL footage into my Mac, why are there always very thin black vertical bars on each side?  And why is the image being squeezed slightly?
I think it may have something to do with interlacing.
If you look at my screenshot here.
You can see that the top image (QuickTime 7 Player) exhibits the issue I'm talking about (the prescene of combing on the man shows this is interlaced).
But the black bars have disappeared in the bottom image (QuickTIme Player X) - and you can see that it looks slightly horizontally stretched by comparison. I'm guessing this is something to do with the fact that QuickTime Player X DE-interlaces video.
The question remains though... what is it about interlacing that introduces black bars and an incorrect aspect ratio??

If you are ripping "standard" format content (4x3 ratio) then it will just appear like that on a widescreen TV. You shouldn't have that problem if you're ripping widescreen content (16x9 ratio).

  • Trial to Full Version: Still have black bar across project...why?

I just downloaded the full version of Premiere Elements 9 for my Mac.  The project I had created with the trial version I was led to believe would cease to have the black bar across the video once I downloaded and installed the full version.  The black bar still exists.  Is there something else I need to do to get it to go away?
    Thanks,

    Hi
Seleting "Timeline > Delete Rendered Files" hasn't worked for me - the black line is still there.   Now I've done it, the "delete rendered files" option has greyed out so obviously Elements think it's done what it can.
Im using Premiere Elements 9 on Windows 7.   Could there be anything else I need to do?
    Other info:
I'm using A Dell Pavilion hP Laptop with i7 Q720 1.60 GHz and 4GB RAM
My project uses MPG4 fles covnerted to AVI format but still with MPG4 codecs in (haven't figured how to sort that one out yet despite great help here...)
My Project is set up as DV - NTSC.
Workflow - haven't used any transitions or anything. One single mp3 on one track (although slip up 8 or 9 times to stop slippage), with hundreds of 2-3 second video clips (as above) on 3 video tracks.
Anything else I can tell you?
Really hope you can help as I've just spent about 8 hours on this project!
[EDIT - could it have anything to do with the fact that I have been rendering clips as I went along (I had to as I was having trouble with file formats). If so, there is there any way of "re-doing" a project, or do I have to start again from sratch?   I guess the auto-saves won't help me as I've been rendering every 30 secs or so.]
[EDIT 2 - problem solved (after a very worried hour!).   I removed all files from the organiser and then brought them all back in, and that did the trick]
    Cheers
    Oli

  • Why does my exported video have black edges?

    Hi Everyone,
Somehow my video must be changing frame sizes or something to that extent. I have thin black edges on my exported video. I have checked carefully and my output and source settings match to my visual knowledge. Please help.

    Mark,
I can show you the player in Premier but I wouldn't know how to export the encoded clip back into Premiere LOL. I'm a total newbie at CS6. And I don't know how to upload a clip, I don't even know how to screen shot it through my notebook. I tried print screen and I get nothing so I am going through my mobile device to upload everything. Thank you guys for your patience and help.

  • Why is the video screen black for me? FCPX

Why is my screen where the video is saposed to be playing black with a multicolored grainy looking box in the top left hand corner of it for Final Cut Pro X?

"I suspect you simply didnt wait long enough for youtube to fully process  the video before you watched it."
Incorrect. After I uploaded the second video, I went to sleep, without watching it once.
So if I set the 2nd video to low resolution, would it end up looking like the first video? Because I still think the first video has better quality.

  • Flash Player 14 : FLV alpha videos have black background!!!

    Please correct this bug.
All flv videos with alpha are now played with a black background. It's work with all previous Flash player versions...

Is that the reason why I can only view youtube right now? I can't view anything else even after clean instal. system restart and everything.

  • Why does Firefox now have a bar which pops up with "Allow" on it? No matter how many times I click on Allow, it just keeps coming back, stuffing some logins

I don't know enough to know why it's doing this, or what to do about it. That's why I asked the question!

There are a few different bars you could see that have an "Allow" button: page wants to redirect, pop-up window was blocked, page wants to install software... Can you be more specific about which message you're seeing?

  • Why is my video app black

My video app has turned black.  1 of my videos disappeared and the interface turned black.  The remaining movies still play.

What codec are you working with? How did you export? What format did you export to?

  • All flash videos have black screen and cause Firefox crashes

Whenever I'm playing a video with Flash, the screen is black although the sound is playing. Then Firefox is crashing.
I'm using the newest Firefox Version (28.0) on Mac OS 10.9.2 (newer Macbook Air) and the newest Flash version. I tried Safe mode and deactivated my plug-ins to make sure it's Flash.
I re-installed Flash and installed but it didn't help.
My Firefox crash reports say "hang | libsystem_kernel.dylib@0x15a3a" under signature and "EXC_BREAKPOINT / 0x00000002" under crash reason.

I solved this problem by disabling hardware acceleration in the settings of adobe flash (right click/context menu). Although this might be difficult if the video is crashing before you were able to access the settings menu.

  • When I render my video I get a black bar on the left side of the screen

I just upgraded to FCS 2 and so far it's been a complete waste of money. I'm having nothing but problems with FCP, Compressor, and QMaster. I will just post my FCP problem here.
I've edited a weekly video podcast and everything looks great, until I render it and export it. When I render it, I get a constant, solid black bar on the far left of the video that takes up about 5% of the screen. My layers are definitely sized correctly to fill up the entire canvas, and they are all centered. I cannot figure out why I am getting this black bar or how to get rid of it without ditching the upgrade and going back to FCP5.1.
I have already tried completely uninstalling the FCS suite and reinstalling. No luck. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

    Thanks for the reply.
My original source material is in Apple Intermediate Codec, with 32-bit float audio and a variable frame rate. This has not been friendly to FCP, so I use Quicktime to convert it to Apple ProRes with 24-bit audio and 29.97 frame rate. This is what I import into FCP.
My sequence settings are set to the same specs as my source material. 854x480, square pixels, no field dominance, Apple ProRes compression.
The black bar on the left side of the screen shows up before I even export. It shows up when I render everything.
I am exporting with Quicktime Conversion to:
    MP4
    h.264 codec
    720x405
    1000 video bit rate
    Main Profile
    No cropping/filters or anything.
The ONLY thing I did different before upgrading to FCP6 was that I used Apple Intermediate Codec all the way through. I was told by an FCP instructor that writes and publishes all kinds of FCP training material that I should upgrade to FCP6 and use the Apple ProRes422 Codec instead, so that's what I'm trying to do.
I am going back to restart my project using Apple Intermediate Codec all the way through like I used to, but it will be awhile before I can tell if that solved the problem. Either way, I would like to be using the ProRes codec....
    Thoughts?

  • Black bars around my youtube video - 16:9 issue?

    final cut 10.0.5
Rookie here, I have created a FCut video using video shot on my Canon Gl-2, and exported it to put it on youtube.
I simply use the Export Media window and choose default setting to go to quicktime.
Problem is that the youtube video has the black bars around the entire video.
How can I export this thing to youtube and get my face full screen?
I know it has something to do with the format 4:3, 16:9, etc. But can't find any settings for this and the Help menu *****.
Here is the youtube video with black bars:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVvMfL-olKM
    THANKS, Pros!

The GL-2 shot 4:3. YT displays everything within a 16:9 frame. If you had shot one of the 16:9 resolutions, it would have filled the frame.
If you want to have FCP automatically fill the frame, in the Inspector>Video, choose Fill for Spatial Conform. The image will be zoomed. After you do that, check the framing to see whether it's acceptable.
Many (maybe most) people disagree with this, but I personally prefer the bars because it maintains the integrity of the original framing,
BTW, why are you on 10.0.5? Many serious improvements since.

  • How Can I Encode a Video and Lose the Black Bars?

I have a .wmv file.  According to the properties it is 720x480.  The video is rectangle, not square...  So I'm assuming it is technically widescreen.  I brought it into premiere cs4 to auto color it.  I'm exporting it with media encoder and this video has black bars.  Is there a way to get rid of them?  It seems when I play the file on my PC before doing anything in premiere, they are at the top and bottom.  Right now I am exporting it and in the little preview box they seem to be on the top, bottom and slightly wider ones on both sides.  Not sure how those got put in the mix.  Can I get rid of all black bars?  I'm guessing the camcorder puts them there at the top and bottom, so how would i know what the height and width of the video would be without them anyway?  I'm confused...
The project settings were standard ntsc DV at 720x480 widescreen.
    Thanks!

Thanks for your reply Hunt...  I got the program and loaded my video file into it.
The PAR and DAR area is blank.  It does say SAR 1.500 (3:2)...  Does that help?
    Thanks!
