Why do my videos look too narrow when I upload to youtube

I have tried uploading to youtube in mp4 .mov and avi files, but the video always looks a little narrow with black space eiter side of the video. It also looks slightly stretched.
What am I doing wrong?

You're probably running into a pixel aspect ratio problem. If I remember correctly, the new "high quality" YouTube videos don't do any pixel aspect ratio correction. There's a good tutorial for YouTube compression at http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/you_tube_reduxgary.html

  • HELP, why does saved image look too sharp when re-opened in Photoshop but normal in Windows viewer?

Been using Photoshop Elements 7 for several years and this has never happened before!  I applied sharpening to an image and saved two copies: PSD and JPEG.  When I re-opened the PSD file it looked WAY over-sharpened.  In Photoshop Editor I then opened the JPEG and it too looked way over-sharpened.  But the strange thing is that when I view the JPEG in the Windows Photo Viewer it looks normal!  Just as it did when I originally saved it.   I decided to try an experiment.  I opened the PSD file that now appears overly sharpened and saved a new JPEG.  I then opened the new JPEG in Windows Photo Viewer -- and it looks normal, even though it was saved from the PSD file that looks over-sharp!  I then opened the same, newly saved JPEG in Photoshop -- and it now looks oversharp and distorted, just like the PSD file.  Can anyone tell me what is going on here?  I'm completely confused!  Hope someone can help me figure this out.  Thanks!

The over sharpening may have caused a color shift.
You might have better luck using the adjust sharpness command. Enhance<Adjust Sharpness.
Skip down to "Precisely sharpen an image" on the help page listed below for info on adjust sharpness command.

Note: You will not be able to do the manual USM segment in the above article as Photoshop Elements does not include the Apply Image Command. It does give some start settings to try out.

The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.
Click the Try something new! link at the bottom of the YouTube page.
I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check.

  • Why is the video quality for AVCHD when uploaded to youtube higher...

    when submitted from a mac?
    #1
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8d-fQxdBmQ
I sent this video directly from my Macbook using iMovie 8.0 and that's the video quality results

I uploaded this using Adobe Premirere Pro CS 4 H.264 - youtube HD widescreen preset and those were the results...?
    Why?

"I suspect you simply didnt wait long enough for youtube to fully process  the video before you watched it."
Incorrect. After I uploaded the second video, I went to sleep, without watching it once.
So if I set the 2nd video to low resolution, would it end up looking like the first video? Because I still think the first video has better quality.

  • Why does my video look a wee bit fuzzy?

Hello! I just edited up some highlight clips of the Paramus vs Hackensack (for you NJ people!) football game from last night in Premiere Elements 4. It looks great on my computer (filmed with a Canon GL2), but when I put it online, it was fuzzier than I had anticipated:
    http://www.rivals.com/uploads/1123/692780.wmv
Here is how I saved it:
    1) I created the clips in Adobe Premier Elements.
    2) I used the "share" feature.
    3) From there I put it on the "Windows Media" option, as the Flash option has never worked for me.
    4) I saves it.
    Any ideas?

Well, do note that a WMV file is only about 1/4 the resolution of your original video, so there's going to be a lot less clarity. Also, WMV files, because they're made for streaming online, are compressed -- which means that scenes of lots of action (such as a football game) are more challenging to produce than scenes of static images.
But, having not seen the original footage, I think your video looks pretty good for online video!

  • Why does my video get zoomed in when i export to quicktime movies?

my video looks great with final cut
but once I convert it to quicktime it zooms in the image and i loose video on the perimeter so people end up getting cut off

Post your question on the Final Cut Studio forum. This is FCPX.

  • The quality of my video is great, but when I upload it to "you tube" yuck!

What is happening? My video ends up being kinda blurry. I look at other people's you tube videos and they look just fine. I upload right from iMovie. Can anyone help??

Thank you for the response, I looked for the "Watch in HD" button when I pulled up my video to try it but didn't see that option anywhere. Also, I don't have to do that to watch other people's video's and most of them look just fine. Should I have uploaded it a different way from iMovie? Actually, I don't even think it gave me any other options than just "upload". I appreciate your response.

  • How to edit JVC/Panasonic/Canon .mod video in Windows Movie Maker then upload to YouTube for sharing

    Quick View:
Part 1: How to import .mod video to Windows Movie Maker
Part 2: How to edit the video with Windows Movie Maker
Part 3: How to upload your video to YouTube
    Know More:
    1. Which Camcorders record video in .MOD type?
    2. What file types are supported by Windows Movie Maker?
    3. What file types are supported by YouTube?
Part 1: How to import .mod video to Windows Movie Maker
    Step 1: Load files
First copy the MOD file from your video camera to your hard drive, then download, install and run MOD Converter, click the "Add Files" button to browse your computer hard disc and load the MOD/TOD video files you want to convert to the program.
    Step 2: Output Setting
In the bottom of the main interface, select an output format supported by Windows Movie Maker for each video file and specify a directory on your computer to save the output files.
    Step 3: Start convert
Click "Start" button on right bottom of the main interface, you are allowed to start conversion.
Step 4: Import converted video to Windows Movie Maker
Click on "File". Then click on "Import". A window will appear. In the window, navigate to the video clip you converted just now. Then double click on the file. You'll see the icon for the file in your Windows Movie Maker "Collections".
Part 2: How to edit the video with Windows Movie Maker
Step 1: Add transitions and special effects
In the Movie Tasks pane, under Edit Movie, click View video transitions.
Preview transitions by double-clicking them and watching the Preview Monitor. Once you've found a transition you like, drag it from the Video Transitions pane, under Edit Movie pane to the box between two of your clips. This inserts the transition between the two clips.
Step 2: Add titles and credits
If you want to add a title before, after, or on top of a clip, click the clip on the storyboard or timeline.
In the Movie Tasks pane, under Edit Movie, click Make titles or credits.
    Step 3: Add Music
In the Movie Tasks pane in Movie Maker, under Capture Video, click Import audio or music.
In the Import File dialog box, click the name of the song you want to use in the background. Then click Import. This adds your song to your collection but does not add it to your video. Drag the song from the collection to the video clip where you want the music to start playing.
    Step 4: Add narration
If you have a desktop computer, connect a microphone. Microphones are available from most electronics stores. If you have a portable computer, you can use the built-in microphone. However, you will get a better-quality recording if you connect an external microphone. In Movie Maker, click the Tools menu, and then click Narrate Timeline. On the timeline, click the clip you want to narrate. You can narrate clips one at a time, or you can narrate the entire movie all at once. If you narrate individual clips, you can rearrange them later and keep your narration synchronized. If the narration is too loud or too soft in comparison to the movie, right-click the narration on your timeline, and then click Volume.
Step 5: To save your movie to your computer
In the Movie Tasks pane, under Finish Movie, click Save to my computer.
The Save Movie Wizard appears. On the Save Movie File page, type a name for your movie. You can also choose a folder to save it in by clicking the Browse button, but My Videos (the default) is usually the best place to save your movie. Then click Next. On the Movie Setting page, click Next to accept the default setting of Best quality for playback on my computer.
Movie Maker saves your movie, which might take several minutes. On the Completing the Save Movie Wizard page, click Finish. If Play movie when I click Finish was selected (it is selected by default), the movie will automatically play in Windows Media Player. Now you can watch your videos anytime by opening your My Videos folder and double-clicking your movie.
Part 3: How to upload my video to YouTube
A video file should meet the following requirements so that it can be uploaded to YouTube site.
    1. In an acceptable format: WMV, MPEG4, MOV, AVI and MPEG.
    2. Video length is shorter 10 minutes.
    3. File size is smaller than 1GB.
Step 1: Sign up a YouTube account or Gmail account, then click the Upload button on any YouTube web page. See the figure below:
Step 2: Type in the information of your video file, including Title, Description, Category and tags. To increase the chances that your video can be easily found, you should put as much information as possible.
Step 3: Set this video to be public or private.
Step 4: Click the "Upload a video" button. When you see the next window, click the "Browse" button to select the video file you want to upload. Then click the "Upload Video" button to upload it. After the upload is finished, you will see the completion page. See the figure below:
Step 5: Click "My Videos" and you will see the video.

  • Why in the Viewer my video looks perfect but when in Canvas its bad?

I record videos on my computer (I use a screen capture program called Screen Flick) I put my video into FCE 4 and in the Viewer it looks perfect! then ill put it in the timeline render and everything and ill play the clip and in the canvas its all blurry and not as sharp and just looks plain bad! I really dont think its the way I export it from ScreenFlick because it plays and looks perfect before i put it into FCE and watch it in the canvas. Please if anyone knows how to fix this tell me!
    -Grant

The main problem here is going to be your frame rate, as FCE only supports frame rates of 25 or 29.97fps. You could try to convert the files using the free [MPEG Streamclip|http://www.squared5.com> to *Apple Intermediate Codec* at 29.97fps, and then using that in a 1280x720 sequence within FCE. However, you might find that the only way to get the quality you want would be to edit with a program that supports custom frame rates.

  • Why does the Video looks Pixelated after Burning DVD

In IDVD when I preview the video it looks great, when I burn the DVD it comes out very very pixelated. I've changed the preferences from Best Performance to Best Quality, and the project properties as well I've done the same. Does anyone know why this is happening?
I'm using 16:4 aspect ratio Video Size is 1280x720
    Help

How are you viewing the DVD you created - on a computer or on a TV?
In IDVD when I preview the video it looks great
The preview uses your original content on your hard drive and is simply designed to allow you to see if the 'flow' (sequences, menus, etc) are what you wanted.
In addition, although iDVD 'supports' HD, it only supports it in the context of current specifications - not the new HD DV world that has two competing HD DVD formats.
This means your 1280x720 content gets downsized and compressed to fit on a 720x480 DVD. The video must be 'expanded' to play on a HD set.
BTW, your aspect ratio is 16:9 and NOT 16:4. 16:4 would REALLY be widescreen! I haven't seen THAT spec yet.

  • Why are the video player change size when resizing the window a little?

When I use the video player to show mp4 files, the "player window" changes size if I change the firefox window. Why and how do I do to get the correct size direct (640x480)

    Hi john3,
This can be the resolution of the screen or the site detecting screensize, do you have a url we can take a look at to determine what's going on?
    Thank you!

  • Why does my PDF look so CRAPPY when I print through acrobat???

I have been having troubles with exporting a PDF from an Indesign file.. when I printed the exported PDF from acrobat, text was printing out very pixelated. I was exporting the file in indesign as a press quality pdf. The text looked fine when I viewed it in acrobat and zoomed in, but when I printed it out it looked very pixelated and not as black as it had when I had printed the file directly from indesign.
so this is what I've figured it out so far... I was exporting to PDF in indesign then opening it in adobe arobat pro and printing from there... for some reason when I went into my advanced print settings in acrobat, it was set to "print as image: 100 dpi." I changed it and it printed out better but not perfect. To double check it was adobe that was causing the issue, I opened and printed the pdf through mac preview. This looked perfect - - exactly like it did when I printed through INDD.
So my questions are, 1> WHY does it automatically printing as an image 100 dpi in adobe? and 2> how can I change this setting so when my client opens it up, they dont have to mess with any of the print settings to get it to look how it's supposed to? Is this a setting I can change when I save the file? I want to make sure it prints out correctly because one of the fonts used is ultralight and can look very very light if printed incorrecty. It looks perfect when I print through preview, but even printing as an image in 600 dpi through acrobat pro, the ultralight font looks lighter and more faded than it should (and than it does in the preview and INDD printed files). If i unselect the "print as image" checkbox, the ultralight text looks better but still not perfect. So that would make my second question >> WHY is the print quality worse when I print through adobe, and how can I remedy this? Any ideas??? Any help much appreciated!
**using acrobat pro 9.4.6 on mac osx 10.6.8

The PDF file itself does not control the "print as image" preference, which should always be turned OFF unless there's a specific need to rasterize the entire page, and is turned off by default in all Acrobat and Adobe Reader installations.
What's the filetype for the ultralight font and what export setting* are you using in ID? If you're exporting to earlier than PDF1.7, OpenType fonts will be converted and may experience some small changes in shape if their hint definitions aren't done right.
*As a side note, bear in mind that InDesign does not use any part of Acrobat when exporting PDFs, so questions specific to that stage in the process should be posted to the InDesign forums.
