Why do "official" NXT blocks have to be password protected?

Like everyone, I'm new to building NXT blocks with LabVIEW.  The projects we had in mind when we got LabVIEW were to combine and modify existing NXT-G blocks to make them more suitable for our purposes.  However, the first thing I learned was that the block diagrams to all of the existing blocks are password protected.  Therefore, instead of being able to take the easy approach of modify the work that has already been done, we have to start from scratch.  Does anyone know why NI won't let the public have access to the block diagrams?

Hi Eagles Coach,
The existing NXT blocks contain several different VIs with proprietary software. Like any other software company, it is in National Instruments' best interest to protect the original source code the NXT software was built upon.
So, rather than leaving eager programmers such as yourself in the dark we created an NXT Toolkit which provides all NXT VIs not deemed proprietary. You have the means to create your own blocks while National Instruments keeps important software practices internal.
If you're looking for examples so you don't have to start from scratch, simply peruse the examples included with the Toolkit! C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.1\examples\NXTToolkit contains several relevant examples for just about any application, and if you hit any bumps just post to the discussion forum.
Cheers.

  • HT4641 Does pages have a document password protection function

Does pages have a password protection function since adobe PDF for IPhone3gs or IPad2 does not?

If you were to think laterally about this, you could also create encrypted archives for just those folders or files you were interested in to minimise the possible harm. Similar to the disk images Magnus suggested, but slightly less trouble. Modern Macs are very fast at unarchiving these files so you can work on them then archive them again without too much trouble.
I am a great fan of those tiny USB harddrives and thumbdrives, which easily slip into your pocket so you can take them with you.
My backup consists of a set of three 4Gb USB thumbdrives for my documents and 3 differently colored USB harddrives for my larger material.
If your work is on these, you simply detach them from your computer and keep them locked up or on your person.
Nobody will be able to access those without bailing you up.
… And of course you can use a combination of any and all of the above suggestions.

  • Why do we need to password protect our system?

They say their is "no such thing as a dumb question" but I know this is one. sigh. I'm curious to the reasons why this is so important.
I understand password protecting prohibits others from piggybacking and using my network. What else does it do?

From Context, I assume you are talking about using a password on your WiFi network.
    The answer is "It Depends".
If you live in the middle of no where, then the chances of someone using your network or sniffing your traffic is small.
If you live in an apartment, or your neighbors homes are very close to yours, or there are lots of people driving/walking near your home, then the chances of someone using your WiFi are much higher.
Yes someone may be using your bandwidth. This means your web surfing may be slower as you are fighting with others to download graphics and such.
Chances are your ISP service aggrement says you are not suppose to let others uses your ISP connection.
If someone sniffs your network traffic, then they can see what you are doing on the interenet. The good news is that generally connections to your Bank, or when actually entering payment information while shopping on-line is encrypted between your computer and your bank or on-line store.
Your home router (aka WiFi base station) acts as a firewall from internet attempts to break into your computer, however, if someone can sit in their apartment and use your WiFi, they can also attempt to break into your Mac because they are inside your home network and your router is actually helping them in stead of blocking them. So do you trust your neighbors?

  • Why does Firefox always block any link I try to open going to a web page when I don't have pop up blocker on?

Why does Firefox always block any link I try to open going to a web page when I don't have pop up blocker on? First off they are not even pop ups....your crap blocks everything and don't save user names &/or passwords when you have it checked. Also in your tutorials about solving this issue says it has the word "OPTION" .......no, it never says option to allow you to bypass it and etc. Only thing is says is "ALLOW" . That would be nice , but the problem is it will not allow it from then on. It only allows it right then and then you have to refresh...after that to open again it blocks it again.....HOW STUPID?!!!!!
It always say that this is preventing this page from automatically redirecting to another page. THIS IS WHAT I AM TRYING TO DO...GO TO ANOTHER PAGE........I DON'T NEED YOUr BROWSERS PERMISSION TO DO THAT. THAT IS WHAT A *%#$&*(&*%$$%% BROWSER IS FOR TO GO TO OTHER PAGES......THEY ARE NOT POP UPS!!!!!
YOU STUPID BROWSER ACTUALLY BLOCKS EVERYTHING AND THAT SUX!!!
    HELP!!

Why can't I block certain people face timing and imessageing me? I keep receiving random facetime calls every 5 minutes got to the point where I have has to turn facetime off.

I'm having the same problem, but it's also coming through on my computer, through my Apple email address.  I have a very short Apple email, and little kids are trying to facetime their little friends, and then when I tell them I'm not their friend, they FaceTime or iMessage me even more, thinking that I'm still their friend, and I'm just kidding around.
I can't block the kids before they call...I don't know who they are.  I want to restrict my FaceTime to only my phone number, and block all FaceTime and iMessage requests that are coming in through my email address.  Can I do that?

Hi have just bought a Sony Xperia J and am not able to tether my ipad as I did with my Nokia C3. Why?
What do I have to do to solve the problem so I can tether to my Ipad?
Is this phone another of the things that Apple does not support? How do I know before I buy a phone that it will be supported?

How are you attempting to connect them?
Looking at the Experia J features it does seem to support Wifi Hotspot, but there is no mention of a Bluetooth hotspot. Different phones offer different things.
The iPad issues the message, because there doesn;t seem to be anything it can do with it. But this is not something apple is blocking its more a  limitation or a non present feature of the phone.
From the Manual which I assume you've read through:
To share your phone’s data connection as a portable Wi-Fi® hotspot
1 From the Home screen, tap .
    2 Find and tap Settings > More… > Tethering & portable hotspot.
    3 Tap Configure Wi-Fi hotspot.
4 Enter the Network SSID for the network. Tap the Security field to select a
    security type.
5 If required, enter a password.
    6 Tap Save.
7 Mark the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot checkbox. The phone starts broadcasting its
Wi-Fi® network name (SSID). You can now connect to this network with up to
    8 computers or other devices.
8 Unmark the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot checkbox when you want to stop sharing
    your data connection via Wi-Fi®
When that is set up, you can use your iPad to look for the Wifi network the phone is providing and connect to it as you would any wifi network.

  • Blocks have much more free space specified by pctfree moved off freelist.

We have a table with pctfree=0 and pctused=90 and experienced high session against it. During the high session, we saw lots of "read by other session", cbc chain, and "buffer busy wait" caused by the same sql (INESRT). The row size of of an average 4K with long raw. After got the block info for the "read by other session" and "buffer busy wait", I dumped the block. The strange thing is that all the of blocks dumped are not in the freelist and the available free space is over 1K.
My idea is: When the session named waiting_a experienced "read by other session" to find the block to insert data, that block must be in the freelist, otherwise the waiting_a wouldn't try to read it in buffer and wouldn't be waiting for it to be ready. Very shortly other session reading_b which was reading the block put the data in buffer and did the insert operation, and the reading_b completed its work of insert. My dump should be after reading_b completed. So the dumped block should contain the data inserted by reading_b. After that the block was got off from freelist.
But why blocks with 0x520 (1312)and 0x104c (4172) freespace got off from freelist? As pctuse is 90, a block will be got off from freelist when free space is less than 10% of the block size, and these two blocks have much more freespace.

knowing Oracle specifically warns against using multiple blocksizes
Nope.  Oracle does not warn against using multiple blocksizes, anywhere in the documentation.
The only warnings I've seen (By Daniel Morgan, and unverified) claims that Oracle was negligent and only tested the SQL optimizer with an 8k blocksize.
I'm not sure that this is true, since it would constitute misfeasance.
I know that Oracle does extensive tesing on their new features, and the docs offer the multiple blocksize feature without reservation.
Uisng multiple blocksizes is a well established, proven concept.
DBA's have been using them for decades with IMS, IDMS and DB2 before Oracle came along.
I first saw multiple blocksized used with great success in the 1980's, and they are still in use today on many large databases.
provide a measurable idea what 'lots' constitute, and how much I/O is reduced in the shops you saw? There is load of verifiable evidence out there:
    http://www.google.com/search?&q=site%3Awww.tpc.org+db_16k_cache_size
This UNISYS Oracle benchmark used multiple blocksizes to achieve optimal performance
    db_cache_size = 4000M
    db_recycle_cache_size = 500M
    db_8k_cache_size = 200M
    db_16k_cache_size = 4056M
    db_2k_cache_size = 35430M

The IBM Oracle Technical Brief titled "Oracle Architecture and Tuning on AIX" (November 2006) notes that careful evaluation is required before implementing multiple blocksizes:
While most customers only use the default database block size, it is possible to use up to 5 different database block sizes for different objects within the same database.
Having multiple database block sizes adds administrative complexity and (if poorly designed and implemented) can have adverse performance consequences. Therefore, using multiple block sizes should only be done after careful planning and performance evaluation.

    Hello alymarvellous,
Take a look at the article linked below, it provides information about the plug-in alert that you’re seeing when browsing specific websites on your iMac.
    Safari 8 (Yosemite): Safari troubleshooting
    Problems with plug-ins
If a webpage has trouble showing plug-in content such as video, you may see a placeholder with a button that describes a plug-in problem. For example, the plug-in might be old, missing, or blocked.
Try clicking the placeholder button to resolve the problem.

  • Why do i get blocked plug in

why do i get blocked plug in message and how do i fix this?  All videos are black.

If you can't install or update Flash, follow these instructions.
If you have installed the latest version of Flash, please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test.
For a "blocked plug-in" error, see Step 4.
For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 8.
Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
You might have to log out or restart the computer before a Flash update takes effect.
    Step 2
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
and confirm. Close the window. Then select
               ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced ▹ Delete All...
In the sheet that opens, check the box marked
Delete All Site Data and Settings
then click Delete Data. Close the preference pane.
    Step 3
If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, log in to YouTube and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
    Step 4
    a. If you get a warning of a "blocked" or "outdated" plug-in, then select the Security tab in the Safari preferences window. In the list of plugins on the left, there should be one—and only one—entry for "Adobe Flash Player," showing the same version number that you installed. Select that entry. On the right there will be a list of websites for which you have specifically allowed Flash, if any. It's normal for the list to be empty. Below that is a menu labeled
              When visiting other websites
From that menu, select either Allow or Ask.
    b. If you still get the alerts, then go back to the Flash Player preference pane and select the Advanced tab. Click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.
    c. If the alerts still persist, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
              Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it, there should be a file named "XProtect.meta.plist". If that file is missing and you know why it's missing, restore it from a backup or copy it from another Mac running the same version of OS X. Otherwise, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
In the Safari preferences window, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Step 6
Open this folder as in Step 4:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
              Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    Step 7
Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    Step 8
If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
              Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
    Then click the button marked
              Manage Website Settings...
if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
    Step 9
    Select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.

This means you can put a SIM card into the iPad and get the internet where you get mobile coverage.

  • Why does my Mac block certain websites?

My Mac blocks Yahoo and Facebook most of the time.  I was told that this is not my router or modem and is a security issue.  Why does it only block specific sites?  I can't seem to find anything in my security settings.

You're connected on a private and particularly an access-controlled and restricted network, and the administrators of that network have decided that connected users shall not expend available resources and bandwidth with access to various web sites and/or web services.
If the network administrators have established the blocks correctly, you'll need to use fairly advanced techniques to bypass the blocks, and attempts to bypass these blocks — whether the bypasses are successful or not — may well be considered grounds for network disconnection and/or disciplinary action by the organization.
It's common to log these sorts of failures and attempts to bypass, and — given they have control of the switching gear — it can be feasible to uniquely identify the client computer that's making these requests.  If not the specific identity of the client computer system or the credentials used, then the location of the client computer that's attempting the connections.
Check with your network administrators, and with the site's policies and procedures.

  • LabView Connection to NXT block Question

        Hi,
I am trying to connect a NXT block using bluetooth. I have paired the device with the bluetooth software and created a serial connection. Thus I can just send data from LabVIEW using VISA but its proving more dificalt than I thought.
All I have to do is send a string or integer to the NXT block.
How can I create a simple sending function using LabVIEW -VISA for just an integer or string ??

    A couple of comments:
    1. I recommend that you invoke the Get Device Info VI after creating the NXT object to verify that you can communicate with the NXT.
    2. I don't remember what the default of the require response input to the Send Direct Command VI, but you need to specify TRUE if TRUE is not the default.
    3. You should wire the response buffer output to an indicator so you can examine the response from the NXT. I'm not sure how you are determining that you are not getting a response since you are checking for one.
    JacoNI wrote:
Also I noticed you keep refering to spike.rtx. What is this? My VI running on the NXT block is named "Spike Remote"
Will this have an affect? The VI jpg has got this name in hex but still no response :/
    4. "spike.rxe" was the name of the program on the NXT in my example. Programs on the NXT have an extension of rxe. I would recommend the use of the "String to Byte Array" VI rather than building the array by hand. The bytes you specify appear to be decimal rather than hex numbers and probably don't represent the string you expect. You also are missing the extension. Wire "Spike Remote.rxe" into the "String to Byte Array" VI and append a NULL byte.
