Why do pdfs print faded?

I can print Word Documents that come out "normal" in terms of their clarity of ink, but when I print pdfs/Excel sheets, they print "faded"?
What printer setting would make the ink darker for these documents? (I've tried several different printer options, but they still come out "faded".)
Thank you!

Well i try to convert all the images i use to CMYK in photoshop before placing them in inDesign - will this actually make a major difference to the printed out colour?
When i PDF from InDesign my colour settings are - Document CMYK U.S. Web coated v2 (this is in the "DESTINATION" toggel. The fact that the word "web" is in the name makes me wonder if this is correct? I am working in another designer's template and this is what the previous designer must have used. I print to PDF/X1a. If possible guide me on what and where i should double check on.
The paper it is printed on makes the colours automatically darker since it is "newspaper" quality paper. The thing that bothers me is that only some images will come out a touch darker than they should be, because all the istock photos i use come out fine. Anyway I woould love it if someone can give me som guidelines as to what my colour profile need to be in my Indesign file... there are so many options.
Thanks

  • Feedback: Why isn't Print to PDF a default option in Windows 8.1 RT on Surface 2?

Why isn't PRINT TO PDF a stock feature of Windows 8.1 RT and IE 11?
One of the biggest reasons why people prefer chrome over IE is the built-in print to PDF.
while you can easily get around this on full 8.1, on Windows RT, print and apps are very limited - so we depend entirely on what Microsoft puts in the OS.
Please Microsoft, allow print to PDF as a built-in feature of IE 11 and Windows 8.1 RT.

Why have I lost PDF printing capability through the File>Print menu?  When will it be fixed?

What app are you using to view PDF files? Preview can be a poor choice for some PDF files - I recommend using Adobe Reader - http://get.adobe.com/reader/ - perhaps it will solve your printing problem.

  • Why does Adobe keep releasing updates for Acrobat that make the PDF print option diasappear?

I am really disappointed that after installing an update to  Acrobat 9 my PDF printer has disappeared from my printer list.
This is the second time this has happened. The last time this happened Adobe were still supporting Acrobat 9 and they ended up having to remote in to my machine to fix it.
Now I have to pay if i want that level of support!!! It begs the question why they release these destructive updates. Is it to force people to upgrade to X or purchase support.
Can anybody give me some instructions on how to manually install the PDF printer?
    I am running windows 7

Launch the Devices and printers setup utility through the Control Panel.
    2Select the \"Add a Printer\" option.
3Click the \"Next\" button and select the \"Local Printer Attached to This Computer\" option.
4Deselect (uncheck the box) the  \"Automatically Detect and Install My Plug and Play Printer\" option and  click the \"Next\" button.
5Select \"My Documents\\*.pdf (Adobe PDF)\" in the port selection drop-down menu and click the \"Next\" button.
6Select the \"Have Disk\" option and click the \"Browse\" button to open a dialog box.
7Select the \"AdobePDF.inf\" file  located in the AdobePDF folder in your Program Files directory under  \"Adobe,\" \"Acrobat 9.0,\" \"Acrobat,\" \"Xtras.\"
8Select the first item (top item) on the list of Adobe PDF Converter options and click the \"Next\" button.
9Type \"Adobe PDF\" in the field for a printer name and click \"Next.\"

  • Why does my Acrobat Pro 9 PDF print driver either lock up or become confused as to where it should store a file when printing a document from within the Firefox browser?

I use Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4.5 for creating .pdf files on a Windows XP SP3 platform. Firefox 6.0.2 is my browser of choice. This question only applies to the .pdf printing process. All other printer drivers work fine with this version of Firefox.
In attempt to save paper, I choose to print most documents in an electronic .pdf format using the PDF print driver and save them to my USB drive. Before upgrading my Firefox version to 6.0.2 this process seemed to work fine but after upgrading the .pdf print process seems to be experiencing problems. This particular printing process will cause Firefox to lock up when the distiller tries to print the file to what I believe is a temporary folder under the Adobe folder. When it does this I am sometimes able to force it to complete the process but frequently it will only produce a log not a .pdf file. On other occasions the distiller will just lock up mid print without producing any kind of error message. In both cases I will frequently have to use Windows Task Manager to break out of the process which then shuts down the Firefox browser. I don't seem to have any problems when I use Internet Explorer to perform the same function. As far as I am aware I am running the most current drivers as Adobe automatically pushes down updates to me as they become available. Any ideas how I can overcome this issue or is it inherent to the new version of Firefox?

The PDF file itself does not control the "print as image" preference, which should always be turned OFF unless there's a specific need to rasterize the entire page, and is turned off by default in all Acrobat and Adobe Reader installations.
What's the filetype for the ultralight font and what export setting* are you using in ID? If you're exporting to earlier than PDF1.7, OpenType fonts will be converted and may experience some small changes in shape if their hint definitions aren't done right.
*As a side note, bear in mind that InDesign does not use any part of Acrobat when exporting PDFs, so questions specific to that stage in the process should be posted to the InDesign forums.

  • Why can't I print to the desktop PDF printer from a PDF file?

I don't know how much more info I can provide.
Sometimes I want to print one page of a multi-page .PDF document (to the desktop pdf printer) and it looks like it goes, but never appears on the create adobe website.

The CreatePDF Desktop Printer has been retired. Please see https://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-5131 for more information.

  • Why does my printer print PDFs so slow?

Not sure if this is the right place, if at all, to post, if not forgive me.
I have a legacy HP LaserJet 1200 printer, that I've had forever and it STILL
makes excellent copies so I'm hard pressed to replace it.
However... when printing PDF docs, it takes FOREVER to print a page. Like
as long as 10+ minutes. But only PDFs. All other doc formatted files print instantly
    as expected.
I assumed it was a memory issue, so I installed as much RAM as possible in the printer,
but this had no effect whatsoever
I called HP and they don't have any new drivers or tricks to make PDFs print more timely.
Does anyone have any tricks or thoughts, other than buy a new printer. When I have to print
a PDF I just let let it sit and do it's thing. But right now I have a 40 page PDF and it will take all
afternoon, seriously. The copies BTW, when the do print are gorgeous and crisp.
    Thoughts?
    Steven

I found another thread finally about this issue which effects many. There is a 3rd party that makes drivers that I installed and cut my "sending to printer" time from 10 minutes per page to  instantly!
Google: gutenprint  or go direct to the Apple page at:
    http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php
and download Gutenprint 5.2.8-pre1 and install the drivers (there's an uninstall in case you need to)
Then go to: System Prefs > Print & Fax > Options & Supplies... > Driver > Print Using:
Select the driver that looks most like yours. In my case I have a "HP Lasterjet 1200" and Gutenprint's driver substitute is: "HP LaserJet 1200 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.8-pre1"
After selecting your substitue driver, click OK and click out of the Sytstem Prefs and try printing.
I was stunned at the difference in time. It was immediate as opposed to 10+ minutues per page.
The one thing though.. is when I was using the HP Driver and it took so long, the printer icon was in my dock the whole time and if I clicked it and launched the interface, there was an "Advanced" button and clicking that gave me a bunch of configurations that I'd never seen before being that I never got this into printing before. But from memory there was which language to choose: Language 2 or 3 and then, stuff like cleaning up background and others I can't remember now.
But now that the new driver prints instantly the printer icon is in the doc all of 1 second and so I can't launch it to get to options. I remember experiementing but unfortunately can't tell you all what I tried since I can't picture what all the config options were/are.
So.. I'm not 100% sure if the speed I'm enjoying now is partly because of the Advanced configuration changes I was trying. Sorry...
If someone knows how to get to these Advanced options, please post them in this thread?
    Thanks,
    S

  • AA8 and Win7 Home Edition - why won't Adobe PDF Printer work?

Was running AA8 on my XP Pro laptop.  Installed AA8 on my netbook running Win7 Home Edition.  Can't print to Adobe PDF printer - well, the reality is that the system tells me it's printing, but it never opens Acrobat or Reader to ask me where I may want to file the PDF file!  Troubleshooter tells me that I'm missing the AdobePDF.dll file and that it's on "the Windows Vista CD-ROM".  Unfiortunately I've never had such a CD nor have I ever used Vista.  How can I get AA8 to work on my netbook?

As suggested by the link, you are likely running a 64-bit system. You have to have at least AA8.1 for 64-bit systems. If you have just installed, you are likely running 8.0. Simply open Acrobat and go to Help>Updates and request the updates in order until they are all applied and then reboot. Also, be sure that AcroTray is running in the background (ctrl-alt-del and check the task list. Enter ESC to return or just close the window).

  • Pdf printer driver install win 8.1

I have read your post several times, but I cannot figure out what your problem is; can you rephrase it?
Also this part does not make any sense to me

  • Adobe PDF Printer not working as print driver; 9.5.5 (pro) with Windows 7, 64 bit

I have installed, repaired, uninstalled and re-installed Acrobat Pro 9.5.5 on a newly formatted SSD with Windows 7, 64 bit on my desktop machine. The program was installed from Acrobat Pro 9.0.0 and updated within the program. I have the program also installed on my laptop, and the Adobe PDF Printer driver is working properly on my laptop.
On my desktop with the newly formatted SSD, the Adobe PDF printer driver is not working. Note that I am using the printer driver, and not any pdf creation techniques within MS Office or other programs.
When I go to the Adobe PDF printing preferences on my desktop, I only get a generic, two tab window open. When I print a file to this printer on my desktop machine, I do not get a window opening that asks where to create the pdf or what to name it, and I never see any files created. In MS Word, the Create PDF option under the Acrobat tab works and opens a dialog to ask the name and location to save, and then opens a PDF Maker progress window and properly creates the file. I can also save a file as an .eps or .ps file and use Distiller to create the pdf. However I cannot get the Adobe PDF printer driver in my Devices and Printers to work properly, although it works just fine on my laptop with the same program (Pro 9.5.5) and same Windows version (7, 64 bit).
Repairing, uninstalling and re-installing does not solve the problem. Acrotray.exe *32 process is running. Any ideas on why this won't run properly on my desktop, but will run on a similarly configured laptop?
On my laptop, I get a full, (7) tabl menu with all the normal options:

I found this answer from Deepak Chauhan on another forum, and it solved this problem!
Try this to add Adobe PDF printer manually on Windows 7, and Windows Vista.
If windows 7 is Enterprise or better edition: (Admin rights required)
Start>search for printmanagement.msc and open the print management module
Expand the print server and expand the computer name to see availbale printers, drivers and printer ports.
    - from printers ensure there's no Adobe PDF printer, if there is delete it
    - go to ports and delete the PDF ports (the ones ending in *.pdf)
    - go to drivers and delete the PDF converter.
Take note if any errors occur, but continue with the following steps regardless.
If on windows 7 home edition, just goto start>Devices and Printers and ensure PDF pritner is not listed.
Then open the registry (if any erors deleting these keys happen, see below)
    1: go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Printers
delete any adobe PDF printer subkey present
    2: go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors
delee the PDF port monitor if present
    3: go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers
again delete and pdf printer subkey
If any erros occur, you need to set the owner of the key to the currently logged in admin user, then ensure that user has full control.
Do this by right-click the key and selecting permissions, clicking on advanced, then the owner tab.
Once you've all that has been done, open a command line as administrator.
Copy and pate the following commands in order
    1: net stop spooler
    2: rundll32.exe setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection AdobePDFPortMonitor 128 C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF\AdobePDF.inf
    3: net start spooler
    4:rundll32.exe printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /if /b "Adobe PDF" /f "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF\AdobePDF.inf" /r "Documents\*.pdf" /m "Adobe PDF Converter"
That should set back the pdf printer.
This seemed to provide the link that provided the Adobe PDF Settings tab to the Adobe PDF Printing Preferences that was missing!

  • How to allow domain users to customize  Adobe PDF  printer page size in Printer Preferences

    Hi
I am able to customize  Adobe PDF  printer page size in Printer Preferences in admin login but not able to customize  Adobe PDF  printer page size in domian users login...
can I have a solution to customize  Adobe PDF  printer page size in domin user login

WOW! I was amazed to see that within minutes of posting my initial thread, I tried something that works.
Apparently, the only way is will actually convert is if you select the regular Print option in the File tab. Then, change the Printer to Adobe PDF & the Paper Size to 11x17. It also worked for 36"x48" becuase I created a custom size named "Poster", so I changed the paper size to Poster & it worked!
I hope this helps someone. I searched for an existing forum on this issue off & on for MONTHS before creating this thread. If anyone has any suggestions why the Adobe PDF tab /PDF Maker wouldn't work, I'd like to know.
