Why do ProPhoto RGB files "Saved For Web" with "Convert to sRGB" selected show up as "untagged" after saving?

For years I've managed my entire workflow in sRGB, thinking if I can make an image look good in sRGB, it's golden in any other color space.  Lately, however, I've begun shooting in Adobe RGB and mastering my images in ProPhoto RGB.  When I save an image for the web, using the "Save for Web" menu item, and check the box that says "Convert to sRGB", the images look fine, but when I check the color profile in Bridge, it says "Untagged", not sRGB IEC61966-2.1, as I'm used to.  Am I doing something wrong, or is this normal?
Thanks!

I'm using Photoshop cc2014, Mac mavericks.  I'm not near my computer right now, but if memory serves, both Convert and Embed are checked.  Wouldn't bet my life on it, but I'm pretty sure.  I'll definitely confirm tomorrow.  Thanks!

  • File Save for Web = Error: The operation could not be completed.

    Installed photoshop CS6 trial Version 13.0 on Windows 7 Ultimate running in hyper-v virtual machine.  Created a small image and clicked File Save for Web.  This produced the error dialog "Error: The operation could not be completed."
    I tried the following trouble shooting steps:
    1. deleted the preferences
    2. created a new user
    3. re-installed both the operating system and photoshop
    4. looked for permission issues
    5. monitored procmon.exe to look for unusual errors
    I'm not sure what I'm looking for, but it simply does not work.

    Hi,
    You mean that you access OneDrive via web browser?
    From my tests, everything is normal and it seems there is no setting in browser to configure this number.

  • Opening PDF files on the web with IPad

    Hi everyone
    I am having difficulty opening some (but not all) pdf files on the web with my IPad. When I click on the icon it comes up with approx half of the first page of the document, but nothing else. It also does not provide an "open in" bar. Any thoughts on what is going on here?
    With thanks, Mike.

    Thank you for following up. We often have people reporting similar problems and I suggest they follow up with the website owner but I rarely hear back from the original poster so I'm never sure that this is indeed the problem. Ironically, serving a document for mobile is almost easier than serving it to a desktop browser because there are no plugins to get in the way. That said, a lot of website owners have gone through pains to do plugin detection and user authentication and authorization and mobile represents another case that they would need to handle on top of what they already do.

  • Why Segment shrink is not supported for tables with function-based indexes

    As we all know , Segment shrink is not supported for tables with function-based indexes.
    But i'm very confused .
    Why Segment shrink is not supported for tables with function-based indexes ?? what's its essential?

    Creating a function based index creates a hidden virtual column (you'll see it if you query user_tab_cols) and once you index a virtual column you can no longer shrink the table:orcl> create table t1(c1 number,c2 as (c1 * 2)) segment creation immediate;
    Table created.
    orcl> alter table t1 enable row movement;
    Table altered.
    orcl>
    orcl> alter table t1 shrink space;
    Table altered.
    orcl> create index i2 on t1(c2);
    Index created.
    orcl> alter table t1 shrink space;
    alter table t1 shrink space
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-10631: SHRINK clause should not be specified for this object
    orcl>so the issue is not with function based indexes per se, it is a level beneath that. Perhaps because the virtual column has no physical existance, when the row is moved there is no reason for Oracle to realize that an index needs updating? I haven't attempted to reverse engineer this, I would be interested to know if anyone else has.

  • Changing file size for web use - multiple images

    My most recent iPhoto event consists of 45 pictures, most of which are 1 MB or larger. I want to scale them down a bit for web use.
    I do understand how the export command works. If I want to change all 45 pictures at once (select all), where should I export them to, and then what is the procedure to get them back into iPhoto? I would really like them to all show up as a new event in iPhoto (same pictures as the original event, only smaller file sizes).
    Am I overlooking some easy way to do this?

    No you’re not overlooking an easy way to do it.
    Export them to a Folder on the desktop and then import them.
    However, why are you keeping these web versions? The more efficient use of disk space would be to upload them then trash them. If you need other versions in the future you can re-do them. Not a lot to be gained by holding on to them, is there?

  • Reducing image file size for web use without pixelation

    Can anyone help me figure out how to best reduce images for fast web loading (in slideshows in Muse). I have done the save for web in PS and they are super pixelated now. The only versions that do not lose quality are the original size and they are huge files. Any help is appreciated.
    Also can anyone tell me how big each image should be, what is considered a too big size (kb) for web images? Thanks Hillary

    The settings I used were in the save for web panel and I saved the image as "medium" and the quality was 30, optimized was checked and it was scaled down to 16kb instead of 700kb. Is there a guideline as to how large in kb an image should be for good loading, it seems like with faster internet speeds we can go a bit larger for asset size. Is it OK to have an image as 65 kb if it is quite large (8 inched wide)?
    I think I solved the problem. I just went in and saved the images as larger quality. I hope it does not slow things down too much. Any advice would help.

  • Using captions (or, hiding file names) for Web Gallery with Aperture 2.0

    Is there a way to add captions to pictures displayed using the Aperture 2.0 web gallery without changing the actual file name? I'd like to keep the file name but add a caption to each photo if possible.
    Thanks

    Hi John
    I'm not making extra versions for this, just using the version name as the name in the web gallery. If you are not already using the version name then it lends itself to web gallery naming nicely. If you are using version names already, perhaps reconsider how necessary this is to you as you are tying up this other potential use.
    My file names all contain a date and index number but I try and use more 'user friendly' version names if part of my final output will be for web galleries. This is good for clients as they don't have complicated names to order, but it's also a cinch to find the files using the search bar in Aperture.
    Hope this helps

  • Save for Web with Optimize File Size for Batch Process

    I have a client who needs to be able to run a batch process on jpg images ranging in size from 600KB to 2.5MB optimizing their file size as close to 200KB as possible. The feature is included in Photoshop's save for web optimize dialog but it doesn't work for batch processes. If you record an action with the optimize to file size option set it processes all the images in the batch based on the quality settings required to resize the image you used during recording, meaning if the image you recorded was 1.5MB the quality setting might be 70 percent to hit the 200KB mark but that wouldn't be the correct quality setting for a 600KB file nor a 2.5MB file those would either be too small or too large.
    I've done quite a bit of searching both online and in the photoshop scripting forums but I haven't been able to find anything that would point me in the right direction.
    My client's paying for this work so if there's someone who knows how to script this who'd rather be paid than just do some pointing we can arrange for that quite easily.
    Thanks in advance for your assistance and suggestions.
    In case it's of importance we're using Photoshop CS4.

  • Reduce file size for web use

    Hello,
    I created a website some months ago and I realize now the images are far too large and it takes a second for them to load. So I opened them in photoshop and changed the PPI to around 50, but the file size didn't shrink. I tried 10, and still nothing. I tried Save For Web and the file size got larger. Any ideas on how to keep the image quality (for web) but reduce the file size for easy page loading? Thank you.

    Don't worry over the ppi value.  That's arbitrary.
    You can reduce the pixel count, by resampling.  That will make an image smaller in a hurry.  To do this, Image - Image Size, check the [ ] Resample Image checkbox, and change the pixel counts.  I always set my Photoshop prefs so that I see the Image Size in pixels by default.  If yours isn't reading in pixels by default, change the units so that it is.
    However, you may need to have your images be a certain size, in pixels, and so resampling isn't an option.  In that case, when you do File - Save As - JPEG (or use Save for Web & Devices), adjust the Quality value to get the image to the size you need.
    Hope this helps!

  • File sizes for web ads

    Hi guys
    I'm trying to figure out how large the final file size of my ad is so I can ensure it's under 40k. I'm sure there's an easy way to find out I just dont know it yet. Anyone able to help?
    Thanks!
    R

    Hi Rossco,
    If you are publishing an oam, on Mac you can select the oam, then use "option+click", then select "get info" for total file size.
    If you're doing a normal web publish (File/Publish Settings/Web/Publish), when you actually publish the project, Edge will create a "publish" directory with all your files in it. Select that "publish" directory, and use "option+click", then select "get info". By the way- to save physical file size on disc, make sure the "Frameworks via CDN" tab is checked. This will load the various js libraries from the CDN, rather than storing them locally with your project.

  • Why are my TIFF files saving blurry? Help!

    I use CS5.1 and just recently when I go to save my edited file as a TIFF, the file is now blurry. I even tried to save a RAW file as a TIFF (with no editing) and it is still coming up blurry. Any idea why this is happening? I appreciate any advice.

  • Optimizing / compressing video for web with Quicktime

    I have a ~70mb (3 minutes long) m4v video that I need to get to a much more reasonable file size for playing on a site that will primarily be accessed via iPad.
    I don't know if it matters, but the video will need to play automatically upon page load.
    I've read through a few tutorials for doing this with Quicktime, however I think I'm missing something..
    From the Export pop-up menu, there should seemingly be an option to choose "Movie to QuickTime Movie." I have only 480p and iPod/iPhone/iPad options(which I believe would result in a viewing frame that is too small).
    How can I proceed with web-optimizing this file in Quicktime? (Or is there a better solution? I tried Sorenson Squeeze, but that had a large watermark..)

    I have a ~70mb (3 minutes long) m4v video that I need to get to a much more reasonable file size for playing on a site that will primarily be accessed via iPad.
    File size is directly proportional to the combined total data rate of your file. If you want a smaller file, then you need to reduce the audio + video data rate of the file. Unfortunately, overly reducing the data rate can adversely affect the audio/video quality of the file. Depending on the encode settings (data rate, encode matrix dimensions, display dimensions, entropy option, intra/inter frame options, number of encode passes, etc.), user tolerance for minimum quality level, the specific target ISP speeds required, application to be used, etc., the possibilities are relatively endless. Basically, the file you describe above has a combined total data rate on the order of 3.1 Mbps. Such a data rate might be considered low for a full 1080p file, adequate for a 720p file, or excessive for a VGA file depending on the graphic complexity of the file. In short, it is difficult to properly answer your question without additional information or actually seeing the file in question. (I.e., proper encoding of content is as much an art as a science.)
    I don't know if it matters, but the video will need to play automatically upon page load.
    It may matter depending on how the web site is coded and/or how the content is to be accessed by the target iPad device.
    From the Export pop-up menu, there should seemingly be an option to choose "Movie to QuickTime Movie." I have only 480p and iPod/iPhone/iPad options(which I believe would result in a viewing frame that is too small).
    The option and tutorial you reference require the use of QT 7 Pro which the option you reference sounds nore like a QT X player export option. (Once, again, what you can do will depend on the software you are trying to use to create your file and a 480p file could normally be anything from an 853x480 (16:9 aspect) file to a 640x480 (4:3 aspect) file or an anamorphic 720x480 file displaying in either the 16:9 or 4:3 aspect. So I really don't know what you consider a "small" viewing frame.
    How can I proceed with web-optimizing this file in Quicktime? (Or is there a better solution? I tried Sorenson Squeeze, but that had a large watermark..)
    As previously mentioned, there are many applications that can be used here—QT 7 Pro, MPEG Streamclip, QT X, HandBrake, etc. to name just a few. I personally would recommend the free HandBrake app since it offers both manual and automatic preset options, as well as, allowing you to create anamorphic or non-anamorphic encodes targeting either a fixed level of quality or a target file size depening on your needs. Unfortunately, the more options you have, the more decisions you need to make which means the more you need to critically analyze your target needs/requirements—which is frequently something many video users are trying to avoid.
    Basically, if you want more specific advice, you will first have to better define your specific needs here.
