Why do RAW Images Turn Pink?

When I take unedited RAW images to an external harddrive, they turn pink.  The RAW images have there true colors in the PSE Organizer, but whether I "Export as a New File' or drag & drop the images to the new file in the External Harddrive they turn pink.  The JPEG image twin shows its true colors in the external harddrive.
This did not happen until I downloaded the RAW converter Version 7.4 update about 10 days ago.  Now it happens consistently.
Any ideas what is going on and/or what I can do about it?

This isn't an easy problem to solve, I believe! So THANK YOU everyone for trying to help me out here!! I really appreciate that!
I haven't tried to create a new Windows account on my computer yet, because I first want to share something interesting I discovered today.
But before I share that, I want you to know the following:
- All the images I'm using are located in the same folder where they have always been, on my internal harddrive. I've been using those images a dozen times from the exact same location, and in the same InDesign version (and also the same Photoshop version CS6 64-bit)!
- I've tried to change some pixels in the image, save under another name and replace it, but it didn't help.
- The page I've given you earlier is just ONE of several in a journal I'm making. Three more images in this journal turns out wrong in the PDF. I've created a new document with all the four images, and I've uploaded a package of the InDesign document to the web page, for you to check.
Today I discovered that the result of the PDF export varies if I change PDF Export Preset. Take a look at the PDFs I uploaded to the web page.
1. If I export using a low resolution preset, all the images are shown wrong, and there's a dark gray color.
2. If I export using a high resolution preset, all the images are shown correctly.
3. If I export using the print settings I've always used when sending it to the Print House, some of the images are shown wrong, and the gray color is made with stripes.
Does this give you a clue?

  • Why does Raw image open in PSE 11 Editor as jpeg instead of as RAW image?

For several years I have been managing my photos in iphoto and using PSE as an external editor for editing images. I currently use PSE 11 on an iMac with OS X Lion (version 10.7.5). My iPhoto Library is divided into a number of sub-libraries via iPhoto Library Manager. I have unexpectedly encountered a problem attempting to edit a RAW image (in this case a .NEF image from a Nikon D200) in a sub-library containing images shot in 2007. When I right click on the image and select Edit in External Editor the image opens in PSE 11 Editor, but it opens as a jpeg and not as an .NEF image. This is in spite of the fact that in iPhoto/Preferences/Advanced/RAW Photos I have checked "Use RAW when using external editor."
As an alternative approach I tried dragging and dropping the RAW image into the PSE 11 Editor icon in the Dock, but I got the same result.
I can't recall having this problem previously and would appreciate knowing what might be the source of the problem along with a suggested fix.

I took a clue from both of your responses. I exported a copy of the original RAW file to my desktop. Then I went to PSE Editor and clicked File/Open and selected the RAW file on the desktop. This automatically changed the Format setting to Camera Raw. I then clicked Open and lo and behold my RAW file opens in Camera Raw!
I’m now where I want to be to edit this image in Camera RAW, but I never before had to go around the horn like this to get there! This is very similar to the procedure I follow when I edit jpegs in Camera Raw.
I’m happy to report that this workaround did the job, but I have no idea why it was necessary in this instance. Hopefully this issue will be confined to this one particular iPhoto sub-library!

  • Why are RAW image thumbnails not being rendered?

OK. I am not sure that I used the right terminology, but I have noticed that Bridge is no longer rendering (? proper term) the Canon Raw image thumbnails properly in Bridge CS6.
I shoot RAW and Small JPEGs. I copy the folder of images onto my external hard from my camera and open Bridge. I see thumbnails of both the RAW and JPEGs with a black border around each image. As Bridge reads each image, the black border disappears from each JPEG thumbnail, but not from the RAW thumbnail like it used to do.
When I click the raw thumbnail once, I get the larger RAW preview image. When I click the larger image and get the loop, the RAW thumbnail then renders and  either the black border disappears from the thumbnail or the corrections made in bridge become visible in the thumbnail.
When the loop is on the larger preview image, the image in the loop enlarges automatically to 200% and I have to take the time to scale it back to read the image selection at 100%.
When I do a batch edit of many RAW images in Bridge, I can click done and the small slider in a circle icon appears above the RAW thumbnail, but the thumbnail is not rendered to reflect the correctiuons made to the image.
This was never an issue before. Bridge was great in reading RAW images at all stages and now it's not.

Have you selected Prefer Embedded previews from the toolbar, or is it set to High Quality on Demand, or Always High Quality?
Have you tried selecting the containing folder, right-clicking and clicking "purge cache for selection"?
It sounds like you are having problems with the cache. Depending on the number of images you have and the speed of your computer, it might be worth purging the entire cache, but this should be a last resort.

  • Image turns pink after export

I'm exporting a documentary short (about 18 minutes) from my Premiere CS6 timeline as Uncompressed 10 bit, Apple ProRes 422, and BluRay h.264 versions.  After each export, even on different computers, my completed video file adds more pink to the faces of interviewees, and subtracts the tannish skin tones, leaving them looking pale and sunburnt.
I've tried turning off the gamma correction settings, and I've even tried exporting through Quicktime 7 Pro and Compressor with the same results.  I am viewing the finished video on the same computer screen as my sequence, and side-by-side, they are noticably very different.
Any idea why this is happening?  How can I get it to export with the same colors as appear in the program window of the sequence?

I am viewing the finished video on the same computer screen as my sequence, and side-by-side, they are noticeably very different.
That's not quite good enough.  You really do need to get the image onto a properly calibrated TV, taking all software and graphics drivers out of the equation.  One you have that in place, you will have some reasonable assurance that you are seeing the signal correctly.  Until that's done, you can't have any such assurance as the operating system, graphics driver and even software player can and often do alter the signal.
So...get those exports onto a calibrated TV, and then judge it's quality.  And for any meaningful comparison, you'll also need to get the originals onto that TV.

  • Images turn pink when not at original size in Mountain Lion

Hi. My wife and I both have mac book pros running Mountain Lion (10.8.5). When viewing images both online and in PDFs, the images change such that they are overlayed with a semi-transparent pink rectangle.  Is this an issue with my Adobe programs or an apple bug? I have found no mention of this problem using google. Thanks.

    Back up all data.
Please triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    defaults delete -g CGContextHighlight2xScaledImages
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear below what you entered. You can then quit Terminal. Test.

  • How can I edit a RAW image in Adobe Bridge and/or Photoshop?

Whenever I drag and drop a photo or group of images from iPhoto. it automatically converts them to jpegs. Even when taken as RAW images. With iPhoto 09, you could do a search of the IMG_#### listed in iPhoto, and a normally-hidden folder full of the original downloaded RAW images turned up in the search. Now, in iPhoto 11, the RAW images newly downloaded DO NOT show up in any system searches (using 10.8.4. It was bad enough when they were hidden... now they are virtually gone.
I want to use iPhoto for organization and some editing, but some photos I want to work with in the RAW format and save as TIFFs. How do I do that?

Whenever I drag and drop a photo or group of images from iPhoto. it automatically converts them to jpegs.
Drag and Drop and Media Browsers access the iPhoto Previews only. No conversion, just the previews.
With 10.8 Spotlight no longer searches within packages, that's to protect the inexperienced user from trashing his or her library inadvertently - as directly accessing the file can do.
To use Raws with an external editor:
First off set your preferred app as an external editor in iPhoto:
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Next: In the iPhoto Preferences -> Advanced, elect to use Raw with your External editor:
Now when you go to edit the Raw it will be sent to your external editor.
    But there's a kludge here.
iPhoto sends a copy of the file to Photoshop. In the case of a Jpeg you simply save and it all comes back to iPhoto seamlessly. However, if you use a Save As then Photoshop is creating a new file and iPhoto knows nothing about this.
Now here's the catch with Raws. You cannot save a Raw. The work you do must be output to a new file, in a new format (jepg, tiff, whatever). However, as the External Editor is making this new file iPhoto has no knowledge of its existence. Therefore you must save it to the desktop and then import it back to iPhoto as a new file.
This means that you will have your Original Raw and the processed version in iPhoto but they will not be recognised as version and original. iPhoto will see them as two separate shots.

  • Canon 50D raw images seem to get shifted pink

I got a Canon 50D the day it came out. Realized there was no support for the raw files so I shot RAW+JPEG.
When it was finally posted, I installed the raw update and now Apeture (& Preview!) read the image but heavily shift the color towards pink. This is not the case with the originally saved jpegs nor when viewing the raw images with Canons "Digital Photo Professional".
It looks like the red/blue channels are being offset and the impact is worse the longer the exposure(!).
    Any thoughts?

Am I the only one who's seen this?
Upon initial import, image thumbnails look fine, then when you go to look at an image full size, it takes a couple of seconds to process (no histogram in the HUD for instance) then the second it's loaded, bam it turns pink.
Inspecting the histogram, the red and blue records are noticeably shifted right and the problem is markedly worse on long exposures.

  • E-M5 Mark II: Why does LR6 not support working with the full 4:3 raw image for pictures taken using a different aspect ratio?

When importing Olympus E-M1 or E-M10 raw images which are taken in aspect ratio different to native the 4:3 MFT sensor format, LR will display the frame as crop overlay to the full image as captured by the sensor. This is very useful because at time of postprocessing one can still control the position of the frame, and modify if required.
I was very suprised to see that for E-M5 Mark 2 this is not supported in LR6. The raw file in LR6 corresponds exactly to the frame which was chosen while shooting. Full 4:3 image information is present in the ORF raw file though, which can be easily seen eg using Olympus Viewer.
Is there any specific reason why this useful feature has been neglected for E-M5 Mark II?
    Thanks

Why is it so difficult to convert a Raw image to a jpeg in Photoshop Elements ?! I have version 12. Once i realized to change the tick box in Camera Raw to 8 bit instead of 16 bit and Flatten image ( sometimes can flatten image if the flatten option isn't greyed out) hey presto i thought i was up and running. However after saving the photograph as a jpeg and renaming it e, after the word edit. I switched off/on my computer only for all the images i had spent time working on to have disappeared. Feeling very upset as there is no Technical Help to telephone at adobe and i don't know what to do.

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

why are my duotone images turning black and white when put in indesign?
I have been playing duo and montotone images into indesing with no trouble. Then all of a sudden as I placew them they go black and whitre. I have tried everything from re saving, re making in photoshop and differant colours et5c. But nothing seems to wrok. The images already in my document arew fine it is just new ones. If someone could help that would be great

Can you start a new document and then load one of the duotones known to be good in the working file and have it correct? If so, try one of the duotones known to be bad in the working document in the new file. Does it work?
If no to either suggestion, can you share one of the images known to be good and one known to be bad? ZIP 'em up and upload to dropbox and plop a link here. Or, to keep the file sizes down, you can quickly make a new set and provide those.
As well, the ID version and OS info would probably be helpful.
    Take care, Mike

  • Why is my raw image became brighter on LR4..?

why is my raw image became brighter on LR4..? it was perfect on the camera lcd but after the importing the raw file to LR4 the image became overexpose... help anyone...?

The camera LCD shows a JPG preview, which is different than the RAW.
Another possibility is that in LR, you have a develop preset applied on import.
