Why do some apps show as .app ?

My friend's Applications folder (also shows up in the dock) is rife with applications which have .app after the name, whereas I have none and have never seen any on other Snow Leopard computers...or for that matter on any OSX operating system. When I transferred a small app from my computer to my friend's computer (through a USB memory stick) it showed up on my friend's computer with that .app after the name. Anyone know why or how this happens, or (more importantly) how to fix it so the .app doesn't appear?

Just to add to the advice you've already received, you may find confusing the fact that disabling the "Show all filename extensions" option does not hide all filename extensions; some, eg, .jpg, will continue to be shown. This is intentional:

Irrespective of the global setting, you can hide the extension of a specific file in the Get Info panel.

Not dumb at all. The blue ones are iMessages, while the green ones are regular text messages.

Why are some of the CC apps only showing as "try"

When I am logged into my account via either of 2 computers or the web, the list of "Downloads" says "TRY" on the download button for Lightroom and other apps. Which apps does my CC membership include?

Restarting the Creative Cloud Desktop app. worked. All Adobe apps are once again available. Although LR5 doesn’t recognize that the current app is already installed on my computer. Thanks. jd

Why do some events show date and time in ical?

Some events show the date and time, others show only the time. I cannot find a setting in preferences to have it be one way or another. I do enter events both on the computer and also my iphone 4s, but that doesn't seem to be the difference.

i restored my ihpone because i was once locked out of it and now some default apps ie : face time , youtube are not on my phone . and also i tried to upload music and itunes keeps saying " the iphone couldnt be synced because it cannot be found " and also keeps sayin " the apps on the iphone couldnt be synced becasue the apps on the iphone cannot be determined " WHAT DO I DO ???

FaceTime was is not an app - Settings > FaceTime > Toggle On
YouTube was removed with iOS 6. That was part of the Restore

Are you using WI-Fi sync when you get this message? You Restored with iTunes so I assume you have access to the device settings in iTunes. Try to sync with iTunes

When I click to enlarge, the actual picture shows up. Other pics show as they should. From the image notation, it appears that both are originated from my iphone, and I cannot guess why some are different from others.

Some calls from today only show -- ... all of yesterday show what location they came in from?!?!

If you're referring to the Destination column on the usage logs not always showing the information ... it's the same response as the text logs, i.e., a reporting lag.

No CC6 apps showing in App Manager

I signed up and received acceptance for the special pricing for existing customers. I follow all dirs. When I download, install & run the App Manager, the only applications I see are from the CS grouping. The photoshop app icon tells me I am up to date. Why am I paying $10 a month for software I already have?

Why do some movies show and some others don't?

For some strange reasons different episode of the same series, with exactly the same encoding as the others, don't show on the Apple TV when streaming from iTunes: the files are identical in encoding, yet part of them just won't show. I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix this.

I have the same problem.
I am running iTunes on a Mac Mini connected to a Drobo external drive as my media server. I do not sync any movies or TV shows but just stream them when viewing. This works flawlessly in general. However I have 335 movies, all ripped and re encoded using the same method (handbrake). Only 315 of the movies show on the Apple TV movie list. I have two Apple TV devices in different parts of the house and both show exactly the same list of movies. So there are 20 movies that are on the Mac Mini and can be viewed within iTunes on the Mac Mini, but don't show up on the Apple TV list.
I have tried deleting the links to all of my movies and then re established the links by repeating the
Add to Library....
command, but the same movies just don't show up on the Apple TV's.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Why do some processes show jdbcclient and others actual hostname?

When using the v$session etc our DBA's notice that whilst a lot of applications will show the actual hostname a process is running from or where the connection to the database is coming from our processes just show jdbcclient or something very very general.
Anybody know why that is the case since we believe we're using the latest 10.2.0.1.0 JDBC thin driver.

From what I have seen, the default in the drivers is very general. Changing this is just a connection property, although an undocumented one.
Try adding the connection properties 'v$session.program' or 'v$session.process'. How you populate these are up to you.

Why do some songs show as matched but are not available for download?

I have just run iTunes match for the first time. The songs I can download are impressive. However, some of my songs do not have the cloud and download symbol next to them but when you look at the iCloud status it says they are matched. How can this be if I can't download them?

I have the same issue. I'm using iTunes the latest version (11.0.2.26). I uploaded my songs from my external hard drive and then matched them via iTunes Match. The iCloud Status says "Matched" but I can't download the songs to my harddrive. But there are others that will allow me to download Matched songs. I attached a screenshot of my iTunes.

Why do some birthdays show up with the description " 's Birthday", instead of showing the name? About 25% show up this way, and the rest show up just fine?

When I enter birth dates for my contacts on iCloud, about 20% of them show up on the iCalendar "as 's Birthday " (without the name of the person), but the rest show up just as they should (i.e., "Ron's Birthday")...I've checked and re-checked the way the data is entered in the Contacts folder, but still get this discrepancy. It only happens when I open iCalendar on my PC...when I view the iCalendar on my iPhone, everything reads just fine. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

Right, I just thought of this so that podcasts DON'T SHOW UP in artists or albums on your iPod (althought it does show up on songs and genres, but if you've got it so it skips podcasts then it won't matter...).
What you do is:
Go onto Podcasts in iTunes. Then go on View on the top toolbar and scroll down to View Options...
Then select it so artist and album show up. Then delete whatevers there, so that the only info on the podcast is just the podcast name and its length.
JOB DONE!
