Why do some of my text messages get received "from" my email address instead of contact name?
WHen I send text messages, sometimes my email address appears in the receipients message box instead of my contact name. This also results in multiple people sometimes receiving the message (those set up under my apple id)...any ideas? I'm thinking it has to do with the SMS messaging setup.
Its because you are sending them as iMessages and not SMS.
If you want to turn iMessage off, go to settings, messages and turn it off.

Why can't I forward text messages using iMessage to my email address?
I recently upgraded my cell phone to an iPhone 5s. I'm using iMessage and am unable to forward text messages to my email address. Sometimes they deliver fine but on the whole they won't go through to my email. Can anyone tell me why? Or what I can do to get them to forward? Thank you!
Do you just mean while you are in the car? Or do you mean while you're connected to a system in the car? What happens when you try? Have you consulted your dealer to make sure you have the most up-to-date firmware on your car system?

Why do text messages from my iPad appear to some people as if they came from my email address instead of my phone number? This does not happen when I send text messages from my iPhone.
You need to link your iPhone number to Messages - and Facetime if you use it. For Messages go to Settings>Messages>Send and Receive at>You can be reached by iMessage at. If your phone number is showing there, select it as your Contact address. If it doesn't appear in there, take a look at the end of this article for help.

when i send a text in iMessage the person receiving it gets it from my email address... how do i change that. and in message settings the receiving thing has my email and phone number but my phone number is gray and i can't click on it help

I had this very same problem when trying to activate iMessage and Facetime on my iPad. When I signed into my account, I actually wasn't even presented with the option of a phone number - notwithstanding the fact that I was contacting others (and being reached by others) by my phone number on my iPhone. Having both the iPad and the iPhone on, I kept trying to turn off and on both iMessage and Facebook in Settings on both my iPad and iPhone, hoping that that they would eventually sync. But this proposed solution by others was unsuccessful for me.
Then, I found out what the problem was: When my iPhone was activated, it automatically registered my phone number for contact purposes. I was using iMessage on my iPhone for quite some time without actually being signed into my Apple ID account. When another device - such as an iPad or iPod - is being used for iMessage or Facebook, you are prompted to sign into your Apple account, using your username and password. These two devices will not register your phone number as an option for contact unless your iPhone is signed into your Apple account as well. In other words: your phone number will not be synced.
Go into your "Settings" on your iPhone and click on "Messages". Scroll down and click on "Send & Receive" (which should be followed by your phone number). On the next page, you will be able to determine whether or not your iPhone is using the Apple ID for messaging purposes. (Note: This information applies for Facetime as well.) If it is using your Apple ID for messaging, than at the top, you will see "Apple ID: <your particular e-mail account>" in Blue text. However, if you are not using your Apple ID for messaging, than you will see the words: "Use your Apple ID for message". Even though below this you will see your phone number checked as the contact source, you will want to click the tab that says, "Use your Apple ID for message". Sign into your account (just as you must sign in for iMessage on your other devices), and just choose your phone number as the "Send & Receive" contact. (The option of the e-mail will be there too, but you don't have to check it. And later on, you can delete it as an option.)
Now that all of your devices are signed in using your Apple ID, the other devices should register your phone number as a choice. It may take a little while, however. What I did was sign out of iMessage on my iPad, and then sign in again. If the option didn't appear, I just went back and signed in again, and kept doing this until the option for the phone number appeared.
Again, this will work for Facetime as well. The solution is to sync your iPhone account with the other devices by using your Apple ID for messaging (and Facetime) purposes.

iMessage requires both parties be using iOS 5. The iPhone 3 can not be upgraded to iOS 5, thus messages would be sent as an SMS (Text message)

I just sent a test message to someone I just met from my iPhone to her iPhone and it came through from my email address instead of my phone number. This seems very strange. Anyone know why this might happen? It seems like a potentially big privacy problem.
likely the iMessage feature it does so to save you money as sms's are mostly charged by the sms where data is not

If i understand what you are saying then you are seeing the WiFi indicator after connecting but Apps are saying that they are not connected to the internet?
Your router may not have given your iPod a valid IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix can be to restart your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPod (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make, model and version, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc. -

Thanks in advance!!!I assume your phone is using your phone number. Select an E-Mail also. Under the Select Area a new Area should show up offering to choose whether to use the number or the E-Mail to start new conversations. Pick the Phone number. Go to iMessage and start new conversations.

Let it verify your number first. Then go to "caller ID" and select your number, instead of your email.

Why do I get txt from my email address
MMy son and I share an email for our iPhone 5c when he txt me I someti get 2 one from my email address and one from my number but not from his. People have told me when I send a message it sometimes shows up as my email also and ask me who I am cause they dnt have it in their contacts. Why is this happening. Have had our phones for a year almost and this is just not happening in the last 2 weeks.
Look at Settings>Messages>Send and Receive From ...On his iPhone click on your email address so that the check mark goes away. Do the same on your iPhone to uncheck his email. You apparently also share an Apple ID.
