Why do some questions on these forums begin with HT or TS and some numbers?

This is a random question that I've been curious about for a while.  Some of the questions' titles on these forums begin with the letters HT and end in random numbers.  Some also begin with TS... What does this mean?

I'm sorry, Allan, but those are always preseeded by the Apple symbol as in

You can ONLY use the itunes store of your country of residence ( proven by the billing address on your credit card) AND ONLY while you are physically located inside the borders of that country.
You would have to live in the U.S and physically be located in the U.S in order ot use the U.S tunes store.  The same is true for each countrys itunes store.

Serial numbers are normally only applied to the disc case.  If you cannot find one on the disc case then you might be dealing with a redemption code scenario... depends where you bought the software and what the software is.

    Hi Hoan,
Kst8no1 is spot-on here: your purchase would need to total $429 before sales tax is applied to qualify for 18-month financing. Full details on this particular financing plan can also be found here.

  • Why do older movies start over from beginning with each chapter?

We have the most recent Apple TV (purchased February, 2013) and use it to stream movies rented from iTunes.  Our computer is the iMac with OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4.  Initially, we had glitches with a few movies but learned that if we reset Apple Tv before each use, it works fine with new or newer movies.  We have had the same problem with 3 older movies that we rented from ITunes: Fahrenheit 451, the Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, and a Face in the Crowd.  With every one of them, they lost connection with Apple TV at each chapter.  When we regained connection, the movie would start all over from the beginning.  If we manually moved the movie forward, it would play briefly and then disconnect again, and the process would start over.  This never happens with the newer ones or popular older movies that have been reissued (and remastered?).  Has anyone else had this experience and have you found a fix?

    Vmondo--
A couple of items, one of which has already been mentioned: Picture size. Another is picture type; jpegs seem to load faster.
iOS4 has several new bells and whistles, which may affect things. Things like folders, multitasking, etc. also consume processing speed. The iPod isn't like my MacBook which processes things really quickly. It should; it has more processing capability.
As a side note, part of the issue may be iTunes for Windows itself. (No proof, but the iPod is an Apple gadget, and as such works slightly better with a Mac. Slightly is the key word here.)
Finally...the iPod is, at the end of the day, a music device--not a pocket sized photo album. That it can hold every digital picture one has taken in the last five years is not really relevant. It can hold video clips, pictures, etc. but it's still a device for music and some well-crafted apps. The hope is that, in the next update of iOS4, the picture issue (because you're not alone) can/will be resolved.
    Now...
    1. I tried answering this above.
    2. You might want to check your settings for photos. It shouldn't be optimizing every time you synch, I wouldn't think, unless you are adding or changing pictures.
You can fill your iPod with whatever you want. From Computer Science 225: All an iPod is, is a fancy HD like what is on a computer. The more you put on the HD, the slower it takes to get where you want to go. This is why it is recommended if you get to with 10-15% of full on your HD, you remove stuff--or get a larger HD and migrate everything on the old HD to it. Even a SSD like the iPod touch has a limit, based on processor speed and available memory.

  • The website Kotaku brings me to a blank white page when i try do a search or click a link to an older post, it says done in the loading bar. Also had an error where I couldn't log in properly while trying to post this question on these forums.

Yesterday I clicked the "link Facebook account" on the website www.kotaku.com.au. Prior to that I can't remember having this issue. Not sure if its related.
My first idea was to use safe mode, which worked. so i disabled my addons in non-safe mode but it still didn't work.
The only thing that solved the problem was clearing my cookies, so for now I have the cookies of kotaku blocked. Obviously not an ideal situation.
I found these error message in console:
Error: Permission denied for <http://network.alluremedia.com.au> to call method Location.toString on <http://www.kotaku.com.au>.
    Error: pageTracker is not defined
    Source File: javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/interaction/rollover');
    Line: 1
I was originally going to post this as a website error, however when trying to ask this question using Firefox I was presented with my log in name and a log out button, rather than the Ask a New Question page. Once again, it worked fine when I disabled cookies.
So now I'm thinking it may not be a single site problem.
Can't find many useful topics on the internet, needing some help.

Thanks for the flag J.K. - they contaced me and solved my problem.  On this account (which I created just to ask this question), I log in with my email rather than my user name (mtalldud). On the account that I was having trouble with, they told me to use my user ID instead of my email to log in and it worked. This is a bit confusing and seems a bit inconsistent but at least I don't need this temporary account any more to get into this community and find answers!

  • I am totally lost on navigating these forums...Reloading Acrobat, Bridge, and Photo Shop Elements

I posted this question somewhere and a couple people answered it, but I cannot find it for the life of me!  I am navigating different browsers trying to get back to my old Firefox, which I think I've managed to do.
My computer went in the shop and had to have a damaged hard drive replaced.  How do I re-load the software without getting dinged for it again?  I do not know what versions I had to start with.  Acrobat was a free version?  I think?  Old...  Photo Shop was newer...I think PSE11 or later...not the latest though.  And it was not subscription, which I definitely do NOT want!  I have no idea the version of Bridge I had.  I'm operating on OS X Yosemite.
And please do not respond asking me to Skype you because the shop did not put Skype back on my computer, and Skype decided it did not like my attempts at my password OR my attempts at changing my password, and has suspended my account.  And I cannot remember when I signed onto Skype so I cannot get my account back without a lot of my time being wasted.  Just another frustration.  I may just trash it.  I never use Skype anyway...

  • Why Are there question marks in my dock that says iphoto, imovie and imovie hd after resetting my dock?

My iBook G4 used to belong to my mums friend. After having it and using it for 2 years, I did a dock reset.  Now There are question marks saying iphoto, imovie and imovie hd.  I don't have the installation disk with me so how do I get these apps back?

Do you know which versions they were? Sometimes they came on an iLife disc; sometimes on an Applications disc or Restore disc with the original software package that came with the iBook when it was new.
Doing a Dock reset would not have removed these applications from the Applications folder.
If they are no longer in the Applications folder, you will have to reinstall them from a disc.
Which exact iBook model is it?
You can choose from this list:

  • TS2634 Why does only the short lightning cable supplied with my iPad work and longer cable don't?

I have the latest iPad purchased through Kogan. It is a 64mb with retina display. It will only accept charge through the short cable supplied. I have purchased (3rd party i admit) longer cables to use for charging so I can sit at a sensible distance from a power outlet and still work on my ipad. I have now tried four separate cables from two different suppliers and none work. Curiously the last two work perfectly on wife's iPad which is identical except for being 32mb. I don't wont to now spend $25 on the longer cable now available from Apple to find the same result.  Anyone else experience this fault?

The lightening cable is not a simple cable. It has active electronics within it and is quite clever in that the pins being used are changed depending on how the cable is being used and what is connected.
The longer the cable, the more the level of the signals on the cable will drop. This drop is sometimes enough to properly transmit and receive power or information/data. This drop is clearly too much for your iPad so it does not work. Your wife's iPad must have a slightly better tolerance on this and therefore works but it probably only 'just' works.  iI would recommend that you do try Apple's cable as it is, no doubt, much more expensive, might have higher quality and will therefore work better.  If the cable from Apple and your iPad do not work then you have something to ask Apple about - possibly a swap of or your iPad but I would guess that the Apple cable will work.

  • Why do many of my edited photos save with a blank icon and not open?

I am using Elements 10 on a Windows 7 computer. I have been trying for 2 days to edit and save my photos. This is only happening about 1 in 10 times yet I take the same steps every time. I have checked the properties of the blank files which cannot open and they all have a different Type of File e.g. MODEL file (.model) and 1 File(.1) They were all saved as jpeg but only the ones with 'Opens with Windows Live Photo Gallery' actually open. The ones with blank icons say 'Opens with: Windows Shell Common'??? They don't open. If anyone can help me I will stop crying thanks.

Try renaming the files to something like 1234.jpg
Make sure the file name contains only one full stop (period)

  • Answering questions on the forums

    Hello everyone,
I am preparing to give a targeted resumé to Apple in the coming weeks and had the idea that my knowledge of apple products or more importantly ability to find relevant information may serve Apple in the best way if I can be paid for answering questions on these forums and any other forums Apple identifies as representative of their services. So my question is this: is it possible to be paid a wage for answering questions on forums? This need not be an in house operation, as I think my internet connection at home would suffice. I also speak fluent French and could answer questions of a high level of sophistication in French. Alors c'est possible?
    Merci et Thank you

But yesterday in these Communities you asked a question "Where can I find the manual for my machine" — which you could have found the answer to with a simple search like THIS.

  • What date did Apple's discussion forums begin?

Does anyone know when the Apple discussion forums started?
I ask this in in relation to Apple being aware (through these forums) of consumer issues /problems / suggestions and then taking the information onboard in development of their products. In my mind the users of apple computers have fed back into the design and updating of hardware/software over the years and the forums (including the criticism they sometimes contain) have facilitated Apple to respond to user needs.
    Thanks.

Apple folks may peek in here from time to time, but this is not where they get much, if any, such info. The only place I've ever seen an Apple employee post is in this one forum, about how the forums work. Otherwise, it's user-to-user.
I've asked a couple of Apple Product Engineers (for Time Machine) if they ever look in the forums for problems, and was told no. If you follow many threads here, especially the ones with lots of posts that might look like a fairly general problem, you'll usually find different problems, different hardware and software, all sorts of digressions, etc., and rarely enough specifics for anybody to figure out what's actually going on. It just wouldn't be very productive. They use actual problems reported to AppleCare, the bugreport site, or the feedback site, and no doubt do various sorts of market research, surveys, etc.
In addition, they do beta testing with experienced users who provide feedback for changes and enhancements, as well as problem reports.

  • A few questions about replacing a PSU with few variations.

So I've spent a lot of time the last few weeks browsing these forums, searching the web, watching eBay, and asking around locally. I am still torn between forking over the $150-$200 for an eBay replacement or trying one of the adapters (http://atxg4.com/mdd.html) with an ATX PSU.
First off, I would like to get a little insight into my problem, to make sure I'm diagnosing it correctly. Two weeks ago I went to turn on my trusty 1GHz FW800 to type a quick document for work. I have been using this machine for over 6 years, without a single problem. The only modifications I made to the machine in the first few years (besides OS updates) was 3 sticks of memory, and another 60gig HD. Two years ago, I wanted to update my vid card to try and squeeze a few more years out of the machine. I went with the ATI 9800pro 128mb card. In order to use my Studio Display with this new card, I had to purchase the DVI to ADC Adapter with it's own power supply. Everything was peachy.
The other night, I pushed my power button, like I've done thousands of times before, and the button lit up like usual, but I didn't hear a fan or any noise coming from the machine, and the power button slowly faded. I then proceeded to push it again, and this time nothing...no light, no noise. And this is how it currently sits...
I've done pretty much everything I can think of to figure out what's wrong. I've tried unplugging and re-plugging, replacing and testing the power cord, using a different surge protector, using a different outlet, resetting the PMU, replacing and testing the battery, and reseating my memory sticks and graphics card. When the machine is plugged in, there are no red lights that glow. So, I followed the PSU test using a multimeter. I removed the black connector cover and stuck the probes in as best I could to get a reading, and I could not get a single reading from the first step of the PSU test. Am I safe to say my PSU is shot? Or...should I get some kind of a reading even if it is shot?
Lastly, I've read that one of the drawbacks of using an ATX PSU is that I will not be able to use my Cinema Display. With my current setup, using the DVI to ADC Adapter with it's own power, will it be possible for me to continue using my Apple Cinema Display if I were to use an ATX PSU? Thanks in advance for any insight/advice anyone can give!

The power Supply adapter page says you won't have the 25V for the Cinema Display. Your other power just may work. Hopefully, someone else who has done the ATX mod & has a cinema display will respond.
Suggest you also post your question in the cimena display forum at http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=111
