Why do some smart object layers become hidden after saving...

Seems to happen particularly to ones that haven't been brought in that way and changed afterwards.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Embedded Vector smart object fails to update after saving swatch library in Illustrator

I am using Photoshop CC 2014 and Illustrator CC 2014 on MacOS 10.9.5
I originally posted this in the Photoshop forum, but it was suggested that I try posting it here since Illustrator is likely to be the culprit.
To cause this issue;
1 - Paste an Illustrator into Photoshop as a Vector Smart Object
2 - Edit content with that object selected
3 - in Illustrator, save a swatch library in AI format
4 - Make a change to the object so that you can save changes, then save
5 - Switch back to Photoshop and let the vector smart object update

Neil's the moderator and here you are wide-eyed (wha??). If you didn't know that how can you comment on the culture here. The culture I see is people coming here with their problems and then copping an attitude. Always the same. And "the usual suspects" always rise to the same bait. But plonk them all you want. Going crazy! Objects not becoming hidden . . .

I have a bunch of checkboxes and each one corresponds to a subform that becomes visible when the checkbox is either on (1) or neutral (2). The subforms are hidden until the box is checked. But if I make a mistake while using the form in Adobe and check a box I don't need, when I uncheck it, the subform is not becoming hidden again.
The first part of the code works fine:

As for display=display.hidden and hidden=true, if I recreated the visible part of the code with it, it made the visible part not work either. And I tried replacing "hidden" with "invisible".
I have made other forms where the if else if statement worked fine to make things visible and hidden. Please help me, I am SOOO frusterated!!

I have never had call to use the on/off/neutral checkbox before, so yes I now see the binding. In essence it is still the same process - instead of testing two possible options, you are testing for three.
A couple of things, when using "or", it is better to use a double || which is a logical OR.
Seeing #subform[0] implies that the subform is not named. It is a really good ides (imho) to name subforms as you go, so that it makes it much easier to reference in script. It depends on the volume of script in your form, but I would be inclined to name them.
When you are in the script editor, if you hover over an object that you want to reference and press and old Control, the mouse will change into a 'V'. When you click the object it will insert the full reference into the script for you. Do this a couple of times, when objects are in unnamed subforms or on the master page and you will see when LC automatically uses xfa.resolveNode. When the objects are named, it will just give the minimum SOM.
xfa.resolveNode is needed sometimes. Like when you assign an object to a variable - when you want to use that variable to alter the object, you need to resolve it first. Also if there are unnamed objects or subforms, then the object has to be resolved. Where you have two objects sitting in the same subform and they have different names, then you don't need to resolve the nodes. I would be inclined to drop the xfa.resolveNode where possible. As far as I can recall it adds to the overload in a form, as it needs to continually go off an resolve objects in the middle of the script.
In relation to your counter I would be inclined to drop the xfa.resolveNode; change to || and check the events that the scripts are in (to make sure that they are firing at the correct time).

Linked Smart Object Layers

This may be a very simple question (or not):
As shown here, I have a Photoshop project that has many layers in it. All of the layers have pretty much the same pictures in it, but with minor differences. I'm trying to find a way to change the color of ALL of the layers without having to go into each individual one.
I want all the layers to have the exact same color different than what is shown.
Any help?

One option (and a pretty cumbersome one) would be to set up a Smart Object for every color and subsequently mask or clipping mask that.
But JJMack’s advice is valid – depending on the severeness of the correction it may be difficult (or impossible without masking) to implement naturally.

Why do some Smart Playlists Auto-Update while some don't?

I followed the old thread about auto-updating smart playlists not updating automatically on the iPod. Apparently the 2006-1-10 update fixes it, but some smart playlists still aren't updating for me. The simple rating-based playlists work (they update), but more complex smart playlists such as this do not work:
Match All Following Rules:
Podcast is true
Playcount is 0
Time is less than 11:00
Kind contains audio
According to this support document: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301910 smart playlists should update based on any criteria, but I'm not seeing that. Am I doing something wrong? What types of smart playlists have people gotten to work?

Linked Smart Object breaks a PSD after sync with Creative Cloud

After using a linked Smart Object inside a PSD and sync with Creative Cloud, the online version of file does not preview and does not work with any online feature, like Extract, Layers, or Anything else.
Any suggestion? Thanks in advance.

The preview seemed broken on the comments tab but the image was appearing for me under the Extract one. When I downloaded the original it looked like the linking was preserved. The online version didn't seem to denote in any way that the Cecinas layer contained a Linked Smart Object, which might be helpful, but it did have the preview. Here are some screenshots of what I was seeing. Thanks for posting about it. I'll pass it on to our engineering department.

Raw file settings missing from smart objects in tiff files after upgrade to CS6

Yesterday I was using Photoshop CS5 and RAW 6.4 (?) in a Windows environment.
When editing photographs, I generally open the photo in Camera Raw, make development changes (ie exposure, contrast, etc) and then open the developed image as Smart Object in Photoshop. I then clone, add layers, masks, etc. and then save the final image as a tiff.
Yesterday, I upgraded to Photoshop CS6 and RAW 7.0. Now, when I open my tiff files and Smart Objects in the RAW editor, my exposure, contrast, and black settings are missing (reset to zero). My graduated filter settings are also missing.
It seems to me that the embedded sidecar data in the tiff / Smart Object is not being read correctly.
How can I update my old tiff / Smart Objects? Re-developing thousands of photos is impractical.
NOTE: As a side note, I opened a RAW file with xmp data (not stored as a tiff/Smart Object) and had no problems.

You need to set the ACR engine to the 2010 version in the prefs.

Imported Smart Objects from Photoshop to After Effects

When I import an Illustrator file into After Effects, I have the option to use Continous Rasterize on that layer. However, when I paste that AI file into PS, as a Smart Object, and then import that layer as footage into AE, I do not have the option to turn on Continous Rasterize in AE. It's a Smart Object that links back to the original AI file. Shouldn't I have Continous Rasterize available to me? Do I need to set my project settings differently in PS?

No. A layer is just a layer is just a layer. That's all AE sees from the PSD file - the rasterized layer preview. It doesn't know or care where the file originated. If you must use AI content with CR, then import it natively. Whatever you do in PS with your SO wouldn't come over to AE, anyway, once you clicked the layer switch. Read up on AE's rendering order in the help.

Why does the Smart Object state affect the Detail settings in Raw?

I've noticed that when I return from PSD to RAW in the Smart Obeject mode, the settings I had set in the Deatail panel have changed. Specifically, the Amount slider is always returned to its default position.
Is this normal? Has my sharpening been altered? Can this be stopped?

I figured this out; developers are using UIRemoteNotificationTypeAlert to determe how my Alert Style setting is configured. There's a widespread meme in the development community that this is a valid way of testing whether I want to receive push notifications.

Some of my work area become rasterized after saved?

Sometimes when I work on a complex design project, I've notice that after I save and re-open my file, some of my work area was rasterize and uneditable.
How can I fix this problem? Some of my work is too complex to re do it again.

Which version of Illustrator are you using?
What exactly is rasterized? Describe as detailed as possible.
Also – if possible – provide a sample .ai file and include instructions that may explain your issue.

Why isn't Hard Disk space becoming available after I delete files?

My wife filled up her MacBook's hard disk to the point where she only had 300 or so MB of storage space left. I transferred about 32GB of movies and photos onto an external disk and deleted the files off of the MacBook. Those files are no longer on the MacBook and they are on the hard disk. However, there is only about 14GB of free space on her MacBook now. What happened to the other 18GB of space that should have become free? Is there something else I need to do to free up this space? I made sure to empty the trash after moving the files into the trash.

You might try OmniDiskSweeper to get a better idea about what's eating up the space. I wold also reset the pram

Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.

Why are some of my word documents scrambled after upgrading to snow leopard?

I just upgraded my desktop to 10.6.8 and I am experiencing more troubles....
1. 4-5 computer freezes per day and I only use it for about 2 hours.
2. My word documents are empty, only showing red squiggle lines as if something is spelled wrong.
No idea how to fix. Anyone?

Maybe your PDF file is composed of pictures? Can you select any of the text
in it, or does it select the entire page as a whole? If the latter, then
you can try to run Text Recognition on it before exporting it to Word.

Why do some of my clips turn black after they are transcoded?

I've been using the same camera (Canon T4i) with the same computer (Macbook Pro) for over the last two years. I've never had this issue. Tonight, almost all of my files imported without any issues. I chose to "optimize" the clips and kept them in their original location They all showed up in my clip bin, but after transcoding, about 5 of the 36 files/clips I imported turned black with no audio or video. I can look in the transcoded folder and see that they're there, but they do not have a thumbnail and will not play in preview. I tried to duplicate one of the original files with a different name and it still has the problem after transcoding. All of my original files play fine. They don't seem corrupted. Anyone run into this issue?

I have the t4i and a 2013 iMac and developed similar problems when I added an SSD in a OWC enclosure via USB3. I was getting over 300 MB/s transfer rates and thought that this was going to be a great help until I experienced all the drop outs in the video I was importing. I found out that USB 3 has a "burst mode" and I think that was the culprit when writing the video. For complete disclosure, I was using a USB3 Hub to connect the drive to the system (not directly connected.) Since I save my video files onto a separate (firewire 800) drive when I copy them from the camera, I don't know if this is a system wide problem, or just with FCPX. My problem seems to gone away when I connected the USB 3 SSD device to an Akitio Thunderbolt "Dock" which I think throttles the USB3 stream somewhat (not a lot, but SpeedDisk showed slightly slower speeds afterwards) or at least communicates better with FCPX.
Anyway, you didn't state what your media pathway was, and I'm just basically asking: is a USB3 drive involved?

ToDos do not become hidden after completed?

Inside of iCal there's a setting to "hide the todo after XX amount of days" .... is there an equivalent in Mail, since the ToDos are synchronized between the two?
What's happening for me is that my Mail ToDos keep getting longer despite having finished the ToDos long ago, and checking them off long ago (either in Mail or iCal).

AFAIK, nothing like this exists in Mail. I suggest you delete old completed ToDos.
