Why do songs leave my iTunes library?

Here's an example of what I run into all too frequently. I want to know why it happens, and how I can prevent it.
A repairman had never heard of The Inkspots. Amazing as it is to me, I've run into this before from people who should know better. Anyway, I decided to play him some Inkspot tunes from my iTunes library. They weren't there, and I was unable to retrieve them by using the iTunes search window. Nothing I tried worked, and it was only after he had left that I FINALLY found them with Spotlight. I then dragged the file containing 90 some Inkspot tunes from my Hard Drive to the iTunes window, and they are now where they belong. However, this took me a great deal of time fumbling and bumbling around, and I don't want to have to do it again.
What is causing this problem, and how can I prevent it?

That's interesting. I hadn't thought of it that way. I've always thought that when I posted a question, that question was mine. Anyway, I didn't like it when I saw that this site had me down for twenty-five unanswered questions. It made me look lazy or ungrateful for the help I had been given. Most importantly, one has to assume that if a question hasn't ben answered in a reasonable period of time, it will never be answered. That's simply because it doesn't appear on the screen anymore. In other words, I think that if a question isn't answered while it's still on the board, it's better to close the file and try again. It could be that if the question is restated in different terms the results will be different. I've done this before. I've closed out a file and asked the question again in a different way. It worked. One last point: sometimes the person who decides to answer your question gives up on you after awhile. Whether it's because of disgust or indigestion, you can't get any further with him. In such a case, I believe that it's better to try again with someone else.
