Why do strokes appear exactly double the size I specify?

I want a rectangle with a pixel thick boarder.
I draw a rectangle, and adjust the boarder to 1px.
The boarder is now 2 pixels wide.
I change it to 4px, it's 8 pixels wide.
I align it centre, inside, outside, the thickness doesn't change (but the functions work correctly).
I've been fighting this problem all day. Any help?

Indesign displays things smaller than pixels which can be misleading.
If you are designing for screen there is a zoom level that displays pixels at actual size—a 1:1 object to monitor pixel ratio. This thread might help:

You want to view the image at the Print Size, which represents the size that shows in the Image>Resize Dialog.
    View>Print Size
Since screen resolution is almost always lower that the print resolution (somewhere between 72 and 96 usually), images will always look bigger on the screen, unless you view them at print size.
(apple Retina displays have a much higher resolution than normal screens, closer to the average print size resolution)

When I try to print a photo downloaded from Facebook in iPhoto, I can't get the size I specify to print correctly. Example: 5x7 prints smaller than 5x7. What do I do to solve this problem?

Those pixel dimemsions have aspect ratios that are not the same as a 5 x7 print:
    1360 x 1360 = 1.0
    790 x 640 = 1.23
    2048 x 1366 = 1.5
    An 7 x 5 image = 1.4.
So you'll need to crop the images to 5 x 7 before printing.  The first two images are a little light in the pixels to produce a high resolution 5 x 7 print.

  • How to stop changing stroke weights when changing the size of an object in CS5 on Windows 7?

I'm not sure what I did to make this happen or how to change it back, but for some reason when I change the size of an object/line it changes the stroke weight as well. (For example, if I drew an ellipse with stroke weight 2 pt, and then increased the size the stroke weight would be 2.856 pt or some such number instead of 2 pt.) Does anyone know how to change this back?
    Thanks!

Take a look at the Scale Strokes and effects preference either in the general programme preferences or in the flyout menu of the Transform palette.

  • Why are my header tracks double the normal height?

I'm running the most recent Garageband (10.0.3) on MacBook Pro 2012 with Mavericks.  All OSX and app software updates are installed.  System is running fine...
Somehow when working in Garageband last night, the height of my tracks became double the height as they normally are.  I have no idea how or why this happened.  This now being the case, far fewer tracks can fit on my screen when working and it's quite annoying.
I've tried some fixes that I found in these forums about deleting the display preferences files for individual songs, turning automation on and off, opening and closing Smart Controls, etc and nothing has worked yet.  Many others seem to have experienced this same problem suddenly showing up.
The only thing that I did different last night that I've never done before is work with an external monitor.  Garageband was open on the MacBook screen, and I was taking notes in an app on the external monitor.  Other than that, I was doing things as normal.
Has anyone found a definitive solution to this to get the tracks back to normal height?  Would re-installing Garageband from the App Store be a possible solution?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    John

Thanks for the reply leonie.  You're absolutely right.  How embarrassing that I didn't see that in the new version of GB!  I had not added enough tracks to my new song at that point to see them start to shrink on their own.

  • Illustrator and Photoshop's stroke appearing larger then the pixel size I put.

My strokes in Illustrator and Photoshop CS6 are showing up larger then the pixel size that I put in.  I checked my settings and nothing looks out of the norm.  What could be causing this problem?

  • Why would upgrading from Lion to Mountain Lion more than double the size of my Time Machine backup?

I have a 500GB Time Capsule that has 248 GB used. After upgrading from Lion to Mountain Lion, Time Machine reported that there was no longer enough room on the TC to complete the backup. Surely the new system files aren't taking up over 200GB? Does it somehow want to copy all of my user files again, even though the vast majority of those haven't changed since the previous backup?
I'd like not to have to upgrade to a larger TC just because of a system upgrade.
    Thanks in advance.

If it is working as expected, what do you need with the old backup?
If you want to be able to go back to where you were prior to an upgrade, isolate that backup and don't use it again. As far as Time Machine can tell, the whole drive changed.
The link I posted contains probably everything that anybody knows about Time Machine and how to manipulate it to work as you would like as opposed to how it was designed to work. There are FAQs to continue a backup as opposed to starting fresh, but I wouldn't recommend it for the reasons above. Pondini probably doesn't, either.
If you are going to do a wholesale upgrade of the OS, I would create a bootable clone using something like Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper. A bootable clone on an external drive can have you back up and running instantly if the upgrade fails in any way. If the upgrade goes fine, store it away in case you find the current system isn't to your liking.

  • Why pixels are not corresponding to the size I want?

    Hello,
Recently I've detected a problem in my Adobe Illustrator CS6.
I open the software, define the art board area in pixels (I checked it at Preferences > Units), but when I export my images they become bigger than they are.
    Example:
This is an image 10x10 pixels, exported at Photoshop (everything is ok here):
This is an image 10x10 pixels, exported at Illustrator.... much bigger!
Here it is the options chosen at preferences:
And what appears in work area:
Does anyone knows what is going on? What can I do to solve this?
Please tell me something. This way is hard to work...
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    Inês Guilherme

Maybe, just guessing here, the resolution set for the photoshop doc was 72 and the one for illustrator 300?
No, no, no. There is no "resolution" setting for a native Illlustrator file like that for a raster image.
When uisng a program like Illustrator, FORGET PROGRAMS LIKE PHOTOSHOP. They are entirely different things and you're just confusing yourself.
    Inês,
In a program like Illustrator, the page rulers refer to real-world units of measure when the document is printed. A pixel is NOT a real-world unit of measure. Ask yourself 'How big is a pixel?' or 'How many pixels is it from Earth to its moon?' Those are nonsensical questions. A pixel can be any size, because a pixel is nothing but a color value. Thinking of pixels as distance is like thinking of colors as distance. How many colors is it from where you live to New York City?
When you work in a program like Photoshop, you are basically working within a SINGLE RASTER IMAGE. That single raster image has a fixed number of pixels. That's why Photoshop's rulers can make sense when they are set to pixels; they are not using pixels as a measure of distance; they are using pixels as a COUNT of pixels.
But when you work in a program like Illustrator, you are NOT working in a single raster image. You are working within a model of a region of physical measure (a page) which can contain vector-based paths (which have no pixels), vector-based text (which has no pixels) and any number of MULTIPLE raster images.
Each of those MULTIPLE raster images on the page has its own independent number of pixels, and its own independent scale, AND its own independent position (which doesn't even have to correspond to any whole increment of the rulers; the sides of those raster images on the page may be positioned BETWEEN the "pixels" indicated on the rulers).
So in a program like Illustrator, you can have an image which contains 225 pixels across (or any other number, and another image which contains 25 pixels across (or any other number). Both of those images may be scaled on the page to the same UNIT OF MEASURE dimension. For example, both of those images may be scaled to one inch in width. The rulers, if set to "Pixels" would indicate that they both "measure" 72 "Pixels" across. But they would still contain different numbers of pixels, regardless of how many "Pixels" Illustrator's rulers indicate they "measure".
Now given those very basic differences between what you're actually doing in a program like Photoshop and what you're doing in a program like Illustrator, what can the page rulers in Illustrator possibly mean when they are set to "Pixels"? Illustrator's rulers ALWAYS refer to a real unit of MEASURE, not to a mere COUNT of "Pixels." So when Illustrator's rulers are labeled "Pixels" they still have to ACTUALLY correspond to some unit of real-world measure.
And they do: When you set Illustrator's rulers to "Pixels" you are really setting them to "Points". A point is 1/72 of an inch.
So when you have your rulers in Illustrator set to "Pixels" and you draw your 10 x 10 "pixel" square, you are really drawing a 10 x 10 POINT square. And assuming you drew it as a path, it has no pixels whatsoever. It doesn't become rasterized until you either invoke the Rasterize command, or until you export it to a raster format. When you export it as a raster image, the only way the resulting image will actually contain 10 x 10 pixels is if you export it at a resolution of 72 pixels per inch.
In other words, because Illustrator's rulers ALWAYS assume a scale of 72 pixels per inch when it uses "Pixels" as a bogus unit of measure, then you have to specify 72 PPI at the time of export if you want the number of pixels in the resulting raster image to correspond to the bogus "number of pixels" indicated by Illustrator's rulers.

  • HT1689 Why is there a limit on the size of apps I can download in the App Store using 3G/4G?

I understand that this is helpful for those that have limited data each month, but for me, and I'm sure everyone else who has unlimited data, this is just a nuisance and rather frustrating. I'm in the Air Force and where I am right now I have zero access to personal wifi. I am unable to update or download many apps. The download limit should at least be optional. Android has that figured out, why can't Apple? I love my iPhone, but I am extremely annoyed with this.

The limit is there because Apple and the carriers have decided it should be. Submit your feedback directly to Apple using the appropriate link on the Feedback page:

  • In the previous firefox version it was possible to have 20 or more bookmarks in the bookmarks bar. In version 4 it is not possible. How can I expand or double the size of the bookmarks bar to keep 20 bookmarks in the bigger bookmarks bar?

    Win 7 system.

    Bookmark / History Backups
Type '''about:support'''<Enter> in the address bar.
Under the page logo on the left side you will see '''Application Basics.'''
Under this find '''Profile Folder.''' To it’s right press the button
'''Show Folder.''' This will open your file browser to the current
    Firefox profile. Now '''Close Firefox.'''
Enter the '''bookmarkbackups''' folder. This is where Firefox makes backups
of your bookmarks. Look for the '''jsonlz4''' file you want to restore
(check the time / date / size). Right click on that file and select '''Copy.'''
Now go back to the profile folder where you started. Rename the file
'''places.sqlite''' by adding '''.old''' to it. Now right click in the folder
and select '''Paste.''' The file you just pasted here, rename it to
'''places.sqlite.''' After you are done, restart Firefox.

  • Under iTunes Summary, it shows my iPhone capacity for photos double the size it should be

When I last synced, the space shown taken up by photos doubled.
It nows says I have 92 photos (7.7GB).  I had just synced about 10 minutes before and it showed then only 46 photos (3.82GB).  When I now check via file manager, it still shows  46 photos (3.82GB), and if I view the photos directly via iPhone camera roll.. it still indicates there is only 46 photos.
The things I had done just before was to upgrade the iPhone to the latest version, and then I had just ticked, then unticked the manually manage video & music on itunes.. so not sure if either of those actions casued the problem.
So what could have happend to make the photos take up twice the space.  I would like to get it back, as I am now running out of space!!
Thanks for any help or suggestions!

A re-sync of the device should clear up the issue.
If not, try reseting or restarting the device, these will not affect the data on the device.
I doubt any issue actually exists, it is more likely just a misreporting of the information from the device.

  • Why does Edge increase the size of the stage when I insert .oam via Dreamweaver?

I am creating a slider for a site's Home Page, and specified a Stage size of 960 x 255 pixels in my Edge Animate document. When I inserted the .oam file from Dreamweaver (Insert > Media), the dimensions grew to 980 x 275 pixels. Manually correcting the dimensions does not correct the problem. The width remains wider, and a gap exists between the bottom edge of my animate object and the border graphic that overlays the object.
How do I correctly specify the stage size so it remains at the size I specify once I insert the .oam file in my page?
    Thanks,
    Kevin
