Why do we use can breakout box?

Hi,
I am relatively new to the CAN networks and i am having some difficulties understanding some basic concepts and i would be grateful if someone can help me out.
so my questions are as follows:
what's the use of the CAN breakout box apart from providing external power?
i am working with the following equipments
NI - 9862 and NI cDAQ-9174 chassis.
I would like to know what model of CAN controler is present in the NI 9862 module and where is the microcontroler found, in the Ni 9862 module or Chassis?
Thanking you in advance.
Regards
Bonjour,
Cordialement

Here is the data sheet for the 9862.
http://www.ni.com/datasheet/pdf/en/ds-97
The 9862 includes everything except the chassis.  A USB or Ethernet based cDAQ chassis is all you'll need to read and write CAN using the XNET library which I'm a big fan of.  Or if you are wanting to go the embedded design you'll want a cRIO chassis, or one of the chassis with an embedded PC which can run head-less.  These get a lot more expensive and you'll want to make sure the chassis is compatible with the 9862 some of the older ones are not.

  • Is CAN Breakout Box supposed to create a bus?

    I have a CAN Breakout Box that was intended to simplify connecting multiple CAN nodes on a bus.  I am currently using High Speed CAN cables with a total of five nodes (two ECUs, one Sniffer and two connected to a PXI chassis) at 250kbaud.   I'm seeing lots of frame errors on the bus, only when the Breakout Box is connected, and it seems to be an issue with the termination resistance.
    Generally I utilize a standard bus configuration wired using twisted pair cable with 120Ohm resistance on either end of the bus and stubs for each node.  I'm wondering if the Breakout Box can be configured as a bus with termination resistance on both ends, similar to a standard bus.  It seems that it's configured as a bus with only termination resitance on one end, so I'm wondering if this is the source of my error frames, and if I need to complete the bus by placing another external terminating resistor on the other end?

    The wording in this KnowledgeBase article implies there is only one resistance in the break out box so I think you may be right. I would try adding an additional terminating resistor and see if that helps.

  • Breakout box + XFI Fatality

    B Hi there, i have an XFI Fatality Pro sound card. The card is fine on its own. I have acquired a breakoutbox which i think is from the elite pro, has the model SB050 on the bottom...
    Now using the AD LINK cable i connected it to my sound card, as soon as i do this i get loud static noise untill i either mute sound or remove the AD LINK cable. I've tried individually muting all inputs and outputs on my volume panel but only muting all sound stops the noise...
    Am i simply not able to use this breakout box with my Fatality sound card? Or are there drivers i should install to enable the breakout box functionality?
    Forgot to mention im on Vista 64, core2duoMessage Edited by Creomortis on 05-5-2009 04:40 PMMessage Edited by Creomortis on 05-5-2009 04:4 [email protected]

    to the best of my understanding *(only from past experience, I dont have one of these)* the two are not compatible. The Breakout box you are talking about is for an elite pro, while the Fatality connects only to an i/o dri've or li've dri've as it used to be called. you may have mistakenly connected the breakout box to the MIDI connector/joystick port on the back of the sound card.

  • Audigy 2 ZS Platinum - Can't get breakout box to w

    Hi, I bought an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum from a friend, and he had lost the driver CD. I connected it and used the drivers I got off Creative's website, and the card works perfectly, but I can't get the breakout box to work. I connected it internally to the card, I don't know what else is left to do. Are the drivers the problem, do I need a specific app to make it work, or is it maybe a connection problem?

    Hey!?Big Problem... my break-out-box doesn't work any more, too.... but it is powered on!?There is no possibility to use the mute function, IR-control, CMSS-Control or to do anything else with it... simply dead, although it is powered on. LED is green and at the optical out i have a red one shining. I tried cleansweap and reinstall drivers, nothing changed the situation. Cable are correctly connected, i didn't change the last years. I'm also missing the extended connection possibilitys in my "sound and speakers" options... formerly there where a lot more, now there are only?fi've or six controller bars.WHAT HAS HAPPEND? Is it normal that there are three steps with the CMSS options like: CMSS, CMSS2 and STEREO SOUND? I remember that formerly there was also CMSS3... correct? Maybe this is another wrong thing... Any hints regarding this box and controller problem?Thanks a lot in advance,Alabaster

  • Can garage band handle 8 mike inputs at once with a breakout box?

    We are wanting to do a rough live recording of our band onto seperate tracks in garageband so we can get the levels of each instument right in the final mix.
    Can we simultaneously monitor 8 inputs and record 8 tracks at once?
    Which is the best breakout box to use?
    Any ideas appreciated.

    You might want to check out the broader selection on Sweetwater's site:
    http://www.sweetwater.com/c683--FireWireAudioInterfaces
    I like the RME Fireface. If your budget can support it, it's very reliable.
    In addition to Presonus, there are other good choices from Motu, Mackie, Metric Halo, etc. I'd just stay away from Digidesign hardware designed for protools.

  • Why do we use WLST Scripting when things can be done manually??

    Hi experts ,
    It may be a stupid question ,
    why do we use WLST scripting for things like deleting Queue _ _ etc ,      which can be done manually (through console)Please help i am newbie in this technology

    In addition to the practical reasons which Barosa supplied, it is also a best practice for addtional reasons:
    <ul><li>removing human errors from typos, omissions, etc
    </li>
    <li>making certains tasks (domain creation, configuration, application deployments, etc) repeatable, especially ones with many steps
    </li>
    <li>tasks that are repeatable, once tested, have a high degree of confidence that they will be done exactly the same way next time with a script
    </li>
    </ul>
    There are many more, but hopefully this gives you an idea of the benefits.

    '''browser.search.openintab''' userset boolean True
    Also in Google search, upper-right-corner settings
    You can always force opening a link into a tab with Ctrl+click or Ctrl+Shift+click
    If you want the same from a bookmark make sure to set
    : '''browser.tabs.loadBookmarksInBackground''' to same value as you have for
    : '''browser.tabs.loadInBackground'''
    The last setting is controlled by Tools > Options > Tabs >
    :: When I click on a link, switch to it immediately,
    which control the difference between Ctrl+click and Ctrl+Shift+click
    Items in boldface''' can be set in about:config

    how can I save a jepg file in lower case letters? I check the use lower case box in preferences but it's not happening. PSCC

    Let's try a preferences reset: (Windows)
    Press and hold Control - Shift - Alt immediately upon cold-starting Photoshop.  If you get the keys down quickly enough - and you have to be VERY quick - it will prompt you to confirm deletion of your established preferences, which will lead to them all being set to defaults.

  • Can Anyone help to explain why character \ is used in Route pattern.

    Can Anyone help to explain why character \ is used in Route pattern. also if you could explain *11\+1.289201XXXX ?

    Well, I think the proper characterization would be that the design is based on a loose interpretation of RegEx. For instance, the asterisk "*" is typically used as the directive for zero or more occurrences of the preceding character. In the UCM dial plan, the * is a valid digit and someone decided to avoid the nastiness of escaping asterisk every time it is needed. On a related point, in standard regex build the "?" is used for a 0 or 1 match. In UCM, the "?" is 0 or more (so, it is like the asterisk in that way).
    That said, I get your point. Someone says "hey, we need wild cards" and the likely place to start pulling examples is RegEx.

    MacBook Pro (17-inch 2.4 GHz), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

    Try holding down the trackpad button while starting up the PowerBook.  Holding down mouse button during start up ejects the disc in the optical drive, so I'm guessing it would work the same with the button the the trackpad.
