Why do we use exchange server ?

Hi All,
I know it is very silly question here, but I am completely unaware about exchange server.
I have gone through many articles but it did not clear me the exact concept. Please let me know exactly Why do we use exchange server ? and why it is mostly used with share point email configuration for domain specific mails ?
Any help is appreciable.

Hi there,
Exchange server is your email server. It is very important in your domain and business servers. I can't say why it is used with SharePoint, I thought those are different servers, but you do want an Exchange server in your domain.
If you use something else, like Office 365, then you don' t need an Exchange server, but if not, yes,it is important, cause email is a vital business aspect.

Oracle supports the standard application protocol SMTP - it does not support a proprietary protocol like that used by Exchange that only works on the Windows operating system. It however provides you with the flexibility to code this yourself.

You will require some kind of SMTP server to be able to send mail from your app (not necessarily M$ exchange.) Just look for mail servers for the platform of your choice.

Free Busy takes over 30 seconds to retrieve on Outlook 2010 using Exchange Server 2010

We have a small 100 user domain running Exchange server 2010 and outlook 2010 clients. The issue is that Retrieving Free/Busy takes over 30 seconds.
So someone is trying to schedule a meeting has to wait Minutes see the Free/busy time for many users.. I have checked and all the users in question have published at least one month free busy time.
It seems it would be much faster. Anyone have this same experience and know of a way to speed it up?

Hi David,
Does the issue happen in OWA? In Exchange 2010, the free/busy information is retreved by using Availability service (EWS url). Generally, if a user wants to view free/busy information when create a meeting, the http Availability service request
would send to CAS server.
Please check whether the usage in Exchange server is high when the slow free/busy information occurs. This reflect time would also be related to the network in your environment.

Trying to go from Entourage to Apple Mail using Exchange Server

I am currently using Entourage and successfully connecting to my company's Exchange Server. I am sick of how Entourage wraps text and poorly handles HTML emails, and a host of other annoyances. However, I cannot for the life of me get Mail to work with my Exchange Server. The input fields on the account setup are not the same between Entourage and Mail. Any pointers would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Same goes for me. I know IMAP is not enabled. Entourage WORKS within my workplace network but mail.app will not. Entourage is OK using IP addresses like 10.1.1.30 where mail.app doesn't know what to do with them. Again, all this is within the workplace network. Outside the network, Entourage does not work and all I have to use in Outlook Web Access. I am fine with the inside-outside situation. I just would like a workaround to be able to use my mail.app within my workplace Exchange environment.

Any fix for mail stuck in outbox in Mail 5.1 (using Exchange Server 2010)?

Every couple of days I will notice that mail hasn't been sending from my Exchange email account in Apple's Mail 5.1. There doesn't seem to be any issues on the server side so it is probably something on my side of things.
I have checked my settings with our Exchange Server representatives and everything should be fine. The 'stuck' messages will send only if I take the account offline temporarily, move the messages to a draft folder, bring the account back on line and then drop the messages one by one back into the outbox.
First, I had to 'unhide' the Outbox just to notice the problem. Now, the outbox doesn't even show the unsent messages unless I take the account offline temporarily.
Anyone find a solution to this?

UNfortunately, the only "clue" I now have is that the emails get sent ONLY when I restart my computer!
This morning, I had a similar problem on my Mac Pro, but it was solved by quitting the Mail app. Not so this afternoon on my MacBook Pro. I had to restart.
This laptop has much less space left upon the HD than does my MacPro. But I must add, the problems on both have been getting worse over the last two days or so.
So, I am not encouraged.
As far as I can tell, I too have only been using one server--but the connection doctor does show two.
I have tried with both, with no difference in performance.
I am one of the people who had a dot.mac account from many years ago. I opted to continue with this, instead of going to the dot.me naming. By some strange chance, it that your situation, too?
At the moment, I can think of nothing else to try. Let's hope we solve this, for I think it bad for the computers to have to restart just to answer an email.

This issue can be caused by following factors:
Exchange issue.
Corrupted user profile
Unstable network connections
To find the root cause of the issue, please try following steps to see what’s going on:
Step 1: Please try to log on your account by using OWA. If the issue still persists, please contact your exchange server admin to check your account.
Step 2: Please rename the OST file under C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook and restart your Outlook, it will be recreated.
Step 3: Disable the power saver on your network adapter under Adapter properties -> Power management.

Using Exchange Server 2007 with 755p ???

After three phone calls to Palm customer service, I still cannot get my 755p to connection to Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 via Versamail. I have tried enumerous combinations without success. One customer service person told me I had to have a "certificate" with Server 2007 (unlike) but she could never tell me how to use it. (I have a line in my regular Outlook account set-up that reads "Only connect to proxy servers that have this principal name in their certificate:" I have that name in Outlook , but see no way of using it in Versamail. Without that certificate, it seems to reject my username and password.)
Any help here from someone who has actually been able to connect using the basic Versamail wizard and Exchange 2007? (I'm using Windows XP, but setting this up in the 755p -- not the computer. My service is Sprint.)

All-day events sometimes don't sync from iPod to Mac using Exchange Server

I have an iPod touch (1st or 2nd generation, not sure) which syncs with my MacBook via ActiveExchange and the company's exchange server.
I have been noticing that sometimes when I create all-day events on the iPod they don't show up in my Entourage-calendar. Even if I change their dates on the iPod or change them from all-day to a specific time. Nothing.
I already switched off time zone support or what's it called although all time zones are on the same city.
Any thoughts are highly appreciated. (And no, to be honest I don't think that it's a exchange-server-problem.)

I see that CRM 2015 is not supported on Exchange 2007. Was wondering what other benefits would be there

There are lot of benefits to migrating from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. The best place to start would be to take a look at the new features in Exchange 2013. the introduction of DAGs in Exchange 2010 and continuation of the DAG in Exchange 2013
and the changes to CAS and Mailbox roles are just a few of the benefits.

I can't see my sent mail in Mail 6.1 using Exchange Server

In the past two weeks I've lost all sent mail in my Mail app (I'm on Exchange.) The mail is apparently still on the server because I can see it on my iPad and iPhone, but not on my MacBook Pro. "Store sent messages on the server" is checked and "Delete sent messages" is set to "Never" in my preferences and I'm on Mountain Lion and have installed all updates. Would appreciate any guidance. Also, all messages in Trash are showing just fine.

Mail content does not load in Apple Mail 10.8.2 using exchange server

About 10 am this morning Apple Mail stopped working. Initially, no emails could be sent or received even though connection doctor found nothing wrong with the internet connection. At 4pm, email would load but with just the sender and the subject - no content will load. Is anyone else having this problem with Mail?

EDIT: Actually I realize you did follow these directions and if your drive is seen on the new Mac it should work. You're entitled to free Apple support with the new purchase, I'd give them a call.

NEED TO UNDERSTAND WHY/WHY NOT TO USE/BUY SERVER

I have a small business (3 employees total.)
My issue thus far has beens scheduling meetings through iCal, etc., and sharing files. Basically, I want my assistant and my partner (and my wife at times as well) to be able to send me invites (vice/versa) for meetings AND also have the ability to make changes to those meetings. Meaning, if my assistant sends me an invite, then only SHE can make changes to that meeting. But say I want to move the time myself or add something to the event, then I need to have her do it and resend the updated invite.
Will server fix this?

No, OSX Server in and of itself will not solve your problem. Your money may be better spent on a scheduling program that can suit your needs.

Recieve Connectors Exchange Server 2013 CU5

Hello,
I am running Exchange Server 2013 CU5, and the receive connector keeps timing out. The problem only exists after the server has been running for somewhere between 2 to 3 hours. After reboot all will work for the 2 to 3 hours and then we stop getting emails.
If I run the Microsoft Connectivity test it returns error code 1, time out error, reboot the server and all is fine again for a while. I have tried deleting the receive connector & re-creating it as both a Hub connector and a frontend connector and it
makes no difference. The fault originally occurred why I was running Exchange server 2013 Std, I they upgraded to SP1 then to CU5 in an effort to resolve the issue, but this did not work. Any suggestions would be welcome as I have no idea on what to try next.

The following error is what I get when I do an "Inbound SMTP Email" test. For the first hour after a reboot it will pass the test with no errors then sometime after the first hour I get the following message. Out going Emails work fine all the time just
incoming. I have created a [email protected] email address, you are more than welcome to use for testing purpose. Also Thankyou for your assistance in this matter as I am at a loss on what maybe the problem so once again
