Why do you use Adobe Flash?

I really just don't know a whole lot about Flash and so I'm curious why you each individually chose Flash over some other program. What kinds of things do you use it for?

I've been using since September 2004 and I've been happy with it most of the time. Mostly because of the reason given above: fast package manager, stays out of my face, lets me handle stuff myself, easy to make your own packages, ...
But lately my wishes / demands regarding a distro have changed: I don't have time anymore to do everything myself, nor to fix a borked system after a pacman -Syu. That's why I switched to Ubuntu on my company's laptop: stuff just has to work, I don't need the bleeding edge anymore. Mind you I didn't install vanilla Ubuntu: I used the alternate install CD and installed a "CLI system". This is very much like Arch: you end up with a minimal base system and you can decide for yourself where to go from there. So far I've been very pleased about Ubuntu.
I still use Arch on my desktop and router. Although maybe I've become more of a Frugalware stable type of user, I can't let go of Arch as it's tought me a lot about Linux.

  • Why did you eliminate adobe Flash Player from 64-bit

I have 64-bit and all of a sudden I can not play some games because you elimanated it. Why?

32-bit programs are normally found in the x86 folder.  You can tell which version you're running by clicking "Help" and selecting About Internet Explorer.  The 64-bit version will say so.  The 32-bit version just has the version number.  Don't fault Microsoft for the problem.  The fact is that Adobe has failed to provide 64-bit versions of Flash player.  They are the ones who own the player and the ones who must provide updates.  Personally I think the fact that they haven't yet come up with 64-bit versions doesn't speak very well of Adobe's support for their products.

  • Is there a way to play video clips that use adobe flash and if not when are you going to resolve your problem with them ? I won't buy another apple product until you do and I Know I,m not the online.

Use the search feature and type in Flash and there are like thousands of posts on this.
You seem to think you are addressing Apple with your post.  This is a user forum and we are all users just like you.

  • I use Adobe Flash player version 11.7.700.225 why do my YouTube and other videos keep stopping

I use Adobe Flash player version 11.7.700.225 which is the latest version.  can anybody tell me why my YouTube and videos stop and I cannot view them I have a macbook pro with retina display late 2012 and I am running OSX 10.8.4. Do I need some other flash to view or what thanks for your time.

    noelenefromashford,
I'm in the same boat. Safari 6.0.5, stalls, and stops playing video (youtube, vimeo, etc). I tried the same videos with Firefox and they play fine!
    Running 10.8.4 on Mac tower.
I just switched from an older Macbook Pro 15" with the same OS version and browsers , and never had that issue. What gives?

  • Why can't u use adobe flash player with iPad II ?

I use adobe flash player a good bit on my pc but I cannot download it from my ipadII why?

it's an Internet Browser add-on and apple doesn't allow any add-ons for the Safari Application due to security issues, certain add-ons could give potential spyware, virus, or other things to get your personal information.
Apple computers allow add-ons because typically people aren't using their computer to make emergency phone calls and things like that like they do from the mobile devices, so the computers can afford to get errors and crash while it would be a huge liability for Apple to allow the phone's potential harm.

No Flash for iPads, iPhones, or iPods
Here's why there's is no Flash available for iDevices or other mobile devices. Adobe was unable to provide a product that was suitable to the needs of battery powered mobile devices used for Internet browsing. Existing Flash technology used too much memory, ate battery life, and was buggy. Simply put Flash did not work well on mobile devices.
Apple's Steve Jobs led the escape from Flash dependency when Apple introduced the iPhone, and later introduced the iPad. There was a hue and cry over the omission. Time proved Jobs was right on target.
So this is why there is no Flash for your iPhone or iPad or iPod nor for most SmartPhones. Flash has been abandoned by many sites in favor of supported technologies such as HTML5 or by providing their own custom app.
Here is Steve Jobs official comment on his momentous decision to omit Flash from iDevices: Steve Jobs on Flash.
Here is Adobe's later announcement to cease development of Flash for mobile devices: Adobe on Mobile Flash. Adobe is not providing Flash for Apple iOS devices, and they no longer provide Flash for any other cellular phones. Flash is officially gone.
Now, you are not necessarily out on a limb. There are some apps that can display some Flash, but don't count on there ability to display anything using Flash.
A sample of Apps that can display some Flash content:
      1. Puffin
      2. SkyFire
      3. Photon Flash
      4. Browse2Go
      5. Swifter
Also, note that many sites that use Flash provide their own app for accessing their material. So check with your favorite sites and find out if "there's an app for that."

  • A safe alternative to use adobe flash player on iPad

I have found that there are some alternative browser options/apps out there that will allow you to function on iOS with sites that use adobe flash. Im wondering if this is a good idea, since I need to use it with a particular budgeting/bill pay site that is linked to my banking accounts? I use this site every day to pay bills, budget and track spending, but it will not work on ipad or iphone due to requiring flash. This is one of the few things that makes me consider replacing my old laptop with another PC vs going to a second ipad in our home. I have to have access to this site when I am away from my mac or other PC. Just wondering if it is a safe and secure idea to use one of the alternate browsers like Puffin, or another work around app since Im dealing with financial information?

  • I have installed executable installer but I still can not use adobe flash player 10.1

I have installed executable installer but I still can not use adobe flash player 10.1 and i cant not find it on my
documents. I do not know what to do? My computer is XP and Internet Explorer.
Why won't it let me download it or use it?

Can you see the Flash animation at http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ ?  If yes, Flash Player is correctly installed and working.
If not, what files do you have in C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash ?

  • Why does facebook say adobe flash is not installed

why does facebook say adobe flash is not installed when it is - windows 7 IE11????

Unless you're on a company computer and locked down to prevent using anythng else, I'd recommend you drop Microsoft's pathetic excuse for a browser and download Firefox.
Then install the Flash Player Plug-in (For other browsers), and free yourself from the chains of the guys in Redmond, WA who can only seem to get things right 50% of the time.

  • How can I use adobe flash player on iPad2

How can I use adobe flash player on iPad 2?

You cannot.  Adobe does not make it for ipad.
This has been discussed over and over and over and over and over and over again on these forums.  Please do a forums search - right side of this page.
There is no need to add yet another thread on this very tired subject.
Adobe has announces d that they are selling a platforms that will allow ipad users to view flash content.  This is nothing that users will have.  The developer of the video will have to do this.

  • How to successfully install and use Adobe Flash Player on an iMac?

I have the latest OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.  It makes actually several years that I have not been able to view videos that use Adobe Flash Player.  This is true of several sports websites I like such as ATPtour.com and ESPN.com.  A few days ago I have upgraded my OS to the most current one.  And, I retried downloading Adobe Flash Player and it made no difference.  I tried to see the videos using numerous different browzers (Safari, Chrome, Firefox) with no success.
I know Steve jobs hated Adobe Flash Player because it was so inefficient.  But, I thought one could still use it with Mac computers.  Are you guys having as much difficulty as I am?  If not what are the solutions to running Adobe Flash Player?  Thank you in advance for your information.
