Why do YouTube videos sputter on iPad?

I have a 10mb cable company connection and an apple base station.
All is fine surfing, downloading etc. everything exc,eat trying to watch a YouTube video.
The video starts, stops, starts then stops for a few minutes then starts again. If I click pause I expect it to continue downloading so I can then watch but it does not do that.
Why is this happening with just YouTube?
Any advice?

That's what I was thinking. When downloading I watch the status bar and it is usually about 140-180 "somethings" per sec. but sometimes it just dies at about 15-20.
Is your wireless "b", "g" or "n"?>>
I've no idea what that means or what I have : ( It is Sprint Broadband. As you know, many of the big companys are wired into the Windoze/MicroDevil stuff so I have no software available on the CD they supply. In fact no prefs are offered beyond Show time or status of hookup. I had to go to their website to download an installer .dmg!
If you make an ethernet cable connection (non-wireless), do you still get the sputter?>>
I'm on the road in a motor home so I've never done anything but Airport and Sprint. But it is the same with my iBook and my Pismo. Does processor speed play any role in the down loads? I have a 120 Gb 5400 Seagate Momentus to put in my Pismo. I was wondering if a side benefit would be faster web work?

Duh! I kinda thought that's what you meant. Since I rarely see a vid all the way through, I've never tried it...well maybe the cat Nora playing the piano, but only that one : )
Shoul play at proper speed.>>

I go to youtube, click on a 2 or 3 min vid, it takes 5 or 6 mins to play. It buffers, the progress bar starts to get red, the arrow-thingy catches up with it and it stops. It buffers awhile, then stop, and I go crazy!
Does this happen to you guys too? I don't talk with many Mac users so I don't know if this normal. I mean a 550 G4 with a gig of RAM should be able to handle a 2 min movie, right?

Okay... No flash... understand...
So I went ahead and installed YouTube app on my IPhone... but now when I select the youtube video from Facebook I get into youtube and I can see the video I 'm trying to play, but now a message appears over the video "The content owner has not made this video available on mobile. Add to playlist to watch it later on a PC." At that point I was able to seach & select other videos by the artist (George Strait) off youtube and play them pkay on my Iphone, but not this particular one posted on facebook. Oh well.. I've spent enough time on this one, I know when I can't get there from here..

Can I changed the quality of YouTube videos on the iPad? When I watch them on my computer they load fine on the 480p setting, but when using the iPad it always loads 720p, my connection is not fast enough to load 720p at peek hours; as I get throttled. This just ends with the video loading 10 seconds then becoming choppy and stopping, this repeats and a 10 minute video can take almost an hour to watch! This defeats the point of the iPad for me as I have to sit back at my desk to watch YouTube videos, and that being the main point of me buying it - it's kind of an issue for me. Yes I am aware that when I connect to YouTube via my mobile data connection it changes the quality. But it makes it so poor it's hardly worth watching, plus I have a 5gb allowance and prefer to save that for when I am on the move. So I assume there is no way to change the quality when on WiFi...

Try troubleshooting the Flash plugin which is required for most YouTube cotent as well as other sites.
Quit Safari.
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Storage tab. Click: Delete All
Now uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Very important to uninstall first.
Launch Safari From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
Now try a video.
BTW... if you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to: Open in 32 bit mode is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.

How do I get sound to play with video? I was trying to play YouTube video from a Facebook post (using app). Video plays, but no sound. How do I fix it?

I am also having this problem, and its confusing the crap out of me when I try to fix it. Between the general settings for "use side switch to:" and the sound settings for ringer and alerts and the lock sound option, I can not figure out the combination to get the sound to work normally. All of a sudden it just had no sound. I think I have tried all the options, changed all of them and there is still no sound, on anything. No Ipad sounds, no keyboard sounds, no video sound, nothing. When I push the volume button up, I get a box in the middle of the screen with a bell that says "sound effects" but there is no bar at the bottom of the box that would usually show the volume going up and down. I click the volume to go up a few times and it just shows me that bell box for sound effects. I have reset the Ipad, and that didn't help. What's even more strange is that in the last few weeks, it has had volume a few times, and then it just stops again. No damage has occurred, no water damage, or dropped at all. Please, someone give me clear step by step directions on how all the settings need to be set. Please?? Thanks.

I can hear some things. I can see the videos posted on Facebook but I can't hear them all. It seems it's mostly YouTube that I can't hear. Any suggestions? BTW I can hear them on my iPhone.

I found the answer so I thought I'd post it for you guys just in case you need it.
If this only happens when a link takes you out of facebook to an imbedded web page, it`s probably because you have accidentally touched the mute icon on that new settings pop up toolbar that scrolls up from the bottom of the screen. Flick the bottom inch of your screen upwards and check if the little bell icon is lite. Touch it to switch mute off again.

Why do YouTube videos lag when I switch to 720p?

I'm extremely annoyed by the fact that everytime I watch a YouTube video and switch the quality from a standard 480p to a 720p or 1080p HD, the video gets lagged out. After restarting my Macbook Pro, it gets better and in a short while when I try to view it in 720p again, it gets laggy again. I have no problems viewing it in 320p or 480p. I notice this happens after I installed a number of updates on my Mac OS X 10.
Here's a list of updates I made.
(1) iTunes 10.4
(2) Mac OS X Update 10.6.8
(3) iMovie 9.0.4
(4) Remote Desktop Client Update 3.5.1
(5) Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 3.7

A lot of people on the other forums seem to suggest it's the internet connection.
I can tell you for one that I have never experienced anything like this before. In the past two years with the same internet plan, I have been able to watch 720p and 1080p HD YouTube videos without any problem. Just today after installing those updates, the video gets lagged whenever I switched to 720p HD.
I just restarted my Macbook Pro and everything is fine for now. In half an hour or so, it's gonna happen again.

You specifically mention Youtube videos is that the only website that freezes. What if you watch videos on other websites such as break.com do they freeze there as well.
Youtube also sometimes defaults itself to high definition videos which does take more bandwith to watch, if you watch in a lower quality does it still take a long time?
