Why does 4.0.1 not open Apple's home page ?
Of all pages on the net, Safari 4.0.1. refuses to open www.apple.com, which I find very ironic, as I saw that it was set as the Home Page, after I reset Safari, when I tried to resolve this. I have also trashed safari.plist, but to no avail. Firefox has no problem.
Bank pages and others open fine. I was wondering if anyone else has found this bizarre discrimination against the mother site, and/or has a fix? Strangely, Safari does open with specific Apple addresses like: http://discussions.apple.com/
Otherwise, there's always good old Firefox...
Isn't this site wonderful!!!
For years I have nearly ALWAYS received a solution here! Thanks a million Hawaiian_Starman. Actually, for anyone else reading this, I found that going to System Preferences>Universal Access>Seeing> "assistive devices" was unchecked. But, having an inkling of Apple's ways, I checked it. Opened Safari, failed to open the Apple page, closed Safari, went back to to "assistive devices" and unchecked it. Opened Safari, typed in www.apple.com and kalabazaam!!! It opened! Your solution worked. How anyone found that beats me.
On to the next one...

Why does my iPad 1 not open documents from my updated mac-pro laptop pages since i updated the mac. Have updated latest pages for iPad 1 it could and still not able to open docs as i could before update on mac-pro
The most recent version of Pages that you can run on the iPad 1, running iOS 5.1.1, is not compaible with the newest version of pages on the Mac.
If you had the old version of Pages on your Mac, and off hand I can't remember what version it was, you should still be able to use that version and then it will be compatible with the Pages app on the iPad. I updated to the newest version of Pages some time back but was able to keep the older version as well. -
No matter what I do, Firefox will not open to my home page. It always "new tab".
Any help would be appreciated.

Why does the newest version not open to the homepage no matter which way you set it up?
The latest version of Firefox recently installed on my PC. Now, no matter which way I set the home page it does not open to that. I simply get a blank tab. Yes, I have set the page correctly and even told Firefox to open to the home page. It does not work. It will accept the settings, and I have rebooted a few times too. When I click the home icon, it opens the page so I know it is set up correctly.

Why when I click the Safari icon in my dock to open Safari it will not open onto my home page?
After downloading the new version of Safari it no longer gives the option to open Safari with your home page. The only options are to open Safari with a blank page or the last page you viewed.
In addition, when Im using Safari and I press Command+N to open a new page I would like that page to be the same as the page I was originally on. Example: If I am on Amazon.com and I press Command+N I would like a new page to open ALSO on Amazon.comCarolyn thank you for your response,
I know how to set my home page what I am trying to do is make it so when I launch Safari it will OPEN on my home page.
In "Safari / Preferences / Apple opens with" the ONLY options are:
"A new window"
or
"All windows from last session"
How can I make it my "Home Page"?
In addition, when Im using Safari and I press Command+N to open a new page I would like that page to be the same as the page I was originally on NOT my home page. -
Why does my Acrobat IX not open PDF files created with my Adobe CreatePDF application?
My Acrobat IX will not open PDF files that I create with my Adobe CreatePDF application
Thanks for answering ... Long answer sorry ... recently upgraded from XP to Windows 7. With XP I could create PDFs with/for any document I created ... I think the XP App was Acrobate Complete as well as I could print directly to a PDF file. In any case, I was always able to creat PDFs. Since upgrading to Windows 7, I lost my ability to create PDF files by conversion or by printing directly to PDF format. Therefore, I purchased the Adobe CreatePDF application from Adobe for about $100. However all Adobe CreatePDF files have a different screen icon and my Acrobate XI supplied with my new Windows 7 intsall does nor recognize the Adobe CreatePDF created files. I am guessing but I suspect the Adobe CreatePDF app is creating Postscript print files and not Windows compatible print files. I would like to tell Adobe about this Bug or failure, but it seems I am unable to contact Adobe directly and talk/chat with a human.

Why does after effects cs5 not open in yosemite?
i haven't used after effects in a year...but in that time i have installed Yosemite
is this the cause of the app to not open?davenokku wrote:

It's not difficult to find; it's on the system requirements page.
Now, I have heard of some folks getting CS5.5 (and maybe CS5) to run on Yosemite, but without further explanation from you on what sort of behavior you're experiencing, nobody could really help. For example, some folks launched AE with no difficulty, but with any effect that used an eyedropper to pick colors, it would crash. This was fixed by changing the preferences to use the system color picker. Some folks couldn't get it to run at all.
If you can't get CS5 to run and you can't go back to an earlier OS, you could always upgrade. You can still purchase CS6 from Adobe.
However, since you haven't used AE in over a year, perhaps it's more of a hobby? In which case, the upgrade pricing for the Creative Cloud might be a pretty attractive option. I like the Creative Cloud because you can get the latest version (and old versions all the way down to CS6) for a pretty low monthly fee. If you paid to upgrade every new version, the subscription model actually saves a bit of money. It's also less hassle and much easier to deal with than a huge lump-sum payment to upgrade. Plus you get all the cool cloud features too, like being able to save a project to your cloud folder and opening it on a different machine somewhere else. -

Firefox now opens to a blank page and the word Firefox appears in upper left hand corner in orange. It, apparently, contains a drop down menu. I can navigate from here but "back" button does not function in any website. How do I get it back to where it was previous to this change?
You can change this if you don't mind peeking under the covers into Firefox's about:config preferences editor.
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the filter box, type or paste newtab and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the browser.newtab.url preference and enter the desired value:
(i) Page thumbnails (default)
browser.newtab.url = about:newtab
(ii) Blank tab
browser.newtab.url = about:blank
(iii) Built-in Firefox home page
browser.newtab.url = about:home
(iv) Any other page
browser.newtab.url = full URL to the page
Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed? -

Firefox does not open with my home page
Whatever settings I use (eg Options>Options>General>Show my Home Page), Firefox opens with the page(s) from my last session. I'd quite like my home page back!
I had this problem as well, but was able to solve it using this procedure:
- Close firefox from the menu (don't use the 'x' as firefox may continue to run in memory for a while)
- in your start menu, enter the following into the "run" prompt: firefox.exe -P
- The firefox profile manager will open (see attached image)
- In my case I deleted the "default" profile because I didn't care about losing any settings. You may want to simply create a new profile instead in case you need to save your settings.
- To avoid being asked about which profile to be used you can highlight your new profile and then make sure the "Don't ask at startup" checkbox. When ready, press the "Start Firefox" button.
- Voila! That fixed it for me. Like I said, I just created a new "default" profile and everyone worked fine for me; use your own judgement here.
Good luck! -
Why does only a spinning gear appear on the 'Home' page of the Creative Cloud window?
When I click on the icon for Creative Cloud on the toolbar, it opens in the 'Home' window and a spinning gear appears. It does not disappear until I click on another page, such as 'Apps,' "Files,' etc.
This worked for me:
Open Finder, click on Go > Go to Folder. Type in ~/library and hit enter.
Open Application Support/Adobe folder and rename OOBE folder to OOBEold.
Click on Apple icon on the top left, select System Preferences
Choose the network that is currently connected to internet that can be Ethernet or
Airport(Wireless). Click on Advanced button and click Proxies Tab.
Under 'Select a Proxy server to Configure' Uncheck all the proxy check boxes, then uncheck 'Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV)'.
Hope this helps someone else. -
Firefox will not open my iGoogle home page without having to sign in
Despite setting my iGoogle page as the home page in preferences and asking iGoogle to keep me signed in, every time I start Firefox it opens a generic Google page and I have to sign in to iGoogle to see my home page. This does not happen in Safari, where my iGoogle home page opens when I start that browser. I have Firefox 3.6 and OS X 10.4.11. This is very annoying and keeps me from using Firefox more often. How do I get Firefox to open the page I set in preferences? Or, is this a Google problem?
